Right after the release of their major debut on A&M and their solemn masterpiece Badmotorfinger, Soundgarden have risen to pure celebrity. Just a couple days before their first Top Forty album was released, Soundgarden played the Hollywood Palladium with Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Spinal Tap as part of heavy metal magazine RIP's fifth anniversary celebration. This broadcast collects seven songs performed at that October 6, 1991 show, as well as two from a concert at the same venue on April 25, 1992. Many of the tracks from Badmotorfinger are spotlighted, along with a sensational cover of Black Sabbath's Into the Void,' with different lyrics taken from the words of Chief Seattle. If you are a fan you must dig this slab of vinyl !

Originally released in 1972 by the New Jersey vocal group Soul Generation, this album was produced by Paul Kaiser and is known as one of the greatest sweet soul albums of the 70's. P-vine last reissued this album in 1995 but that edition has already become difficult to find, so P-vine has decided to reissue it a second time in order to promote this wonderful work in Japan and around the world.

The album features medium numbers, including a cover of the Rascals' "Ray Of Hope', and the harmonies created by falsetto lead Cliff Perkins and the band members have not faded after more than half a century. The playing by Joe Sample (key), Chuck Rainey (b) and Paul Humphrey (ds) is also excellent. "Praying ForA Miracle" and "I Wonder What She's Doin'", which were only included on the single, are additionally included only on this edition.

Originally classically trained in guitar and piano, Soren spent many years working to a strict regime, until he shifted into the electronic sphere and unlocked a new appreciation and direction with sound. An iconic Canadian media figure, Sook-Yin Lee is an award-winning filmmaker, musician, actor, visual artist and broadcaster who has immersed herself in myriad creative collaborations. Many of them were made with her life partner and frequent co-creator Adam Litovitz, including their 2015 ethereal electroacoustic album jooj. Though Litovitz passed away in 2019, his work with Lee lives on with jooj two, an unapologetic dive into playful art-pop and a document of a lost language between lovers. While financial difficulties and external pressures contributed to the end of their romantic relationship, Lee and Litovitz remained best friends and creative partners. As he was busy with a soundtrack for Netflix, Litovitz gave Lee his blessing to continue working on their second album without him. Increasingly, Litovitz struggled with anxiety and depression, compounded by a prescription drug dependency that exacerbated insomnia and pain. Tragically, he died by suicide June 16, 2019. Litovitz’s passing was a profound loss for Lee and so many who loved him. Lee saw pieces of his irrepressible spirit—as well as the story of their relationship—contained within the music they had recorded for jooj two and was determined to share it with the world. With the assistance of mixer Steve Chahley (U.S. Girls, Badge Époque Ensemble, Darlene Shrugg), Lee completed this album and will share it with the world this spring. There is an intentionality and inherent uniqueness to jooj two’s songwriting approach that first took shape by Lee responding to a musical phrase with vocal melodies and stream of consciousness lyrics. Those experiments were transcribed and delightfully interpreted by Litovitz, then returned to Lee for finessing. The resulting wordplay across eleven enigmatic and accessible tracks evokes the feeling of a new language being born.

Sons of Viljems are a London based duo, comprised of Andrea Giommi (Guitar, Vocals) and Nejc Haberman (Bass, Synth). With a measured pace in a world of relentless acceleration, they have released six carefully crafted songs over five years on Sas Recordings and Fang Bomb Records. In contrast to bulk editing and standardisation, Sons of Viljems meticulously chisel every song to its last detail. After years of concerts, collaborations, and sporadic releases, the band has now curated 42 minutes of music for their debut full-length album ‘Lithospheric Melodies’. This collection is a fusion of minimalistic bass-guitar sessions and collaborative efforts with external musicians, each contributing their unique touch to the compositions. London jazz drummer Tim Doyle, also known as ‘Chiminyo’, records the album and plays percussion on every track. Other notable contributors include Filip Sijanec on synths and drum machine, Laura Loriga lending her vocals on two tracks, Elisa Ridolfi with a range of evocative and possessed Goblin - Morricone like vocal patterns, Matjaz Mlakar sprinkles the album with inventive saxophone solutions, and Agathe Max adds her viola touch to three tracks. The album is mixed and produced by Jean-Gabriel Becker of ‘Becker and Mukai’.

Sonny Rollins war 1957 einer der ersten Saxophonisten (wenn nicht gar der erste überhaupt), die mit einem Trio ohne Harmonieinstrumente auftraten. Eines der bahnbrechenden Alben in dieser damals noch absolut außergewöhnlichen Besetzung mit Sax, Bass und Schlagzeug war “A Night At The Village Vanguard”.

Erst 1976 erschien unter dem Titel “More From The Vanguard” ein Doppel-Vinyl-Album mit den restlichen Aufnahmen der drei Sets, die Rollins am Nachmittag und Abend des 3. November 1957 mit zwei unterschiedlichen Trios gespielt hatte. Nun werden sämtliche Aufnahmen, erstmals von den Originalbändern gemastert (!), in der “Tone Poet”-Reihe auf 2 CDs bzw. drei LPs neu aufgelegt.

“Culled from three 1985 gigs in the UK during a transitional and transcendent time in the band’s story, Sonic Youth’s The Walls Have Ears appeared / disappeared as a 2LP set in 1986, not just a live album but an artful tapestry full of live experimentation with songs, between-song tape segues, darkness, humor and audio verité. It’s now issued for the first time officially under the band’s auspices.

“The ’85 shows were the second time the band appeared on UK soil, Brits now getting juiced to the mythos of the emerging guitar-slinging American independent underground; an art / punk band from NYC sporting casual attitudes and tees sporting Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, and Prince made some good press copy on top of their bludgeoning stage appearance. Paul Smith of the newly-founded Blast First label acted as an overseas diplomatic envoy for Sonic Youth through their SST years as well as issuing their classic 1988 Daydream Nation outside the USA. However the Smith-produced ‘bootleg’ of their ’85 UK gigs surfaced much to everyone’s surprise, just before Evol was to be released. It turned out to be a marker of the group’s dissatisfaction that ultimately led to the release’s deletion, and the band and Smith parting ways after Daydream.

“In this 2LP set brimming with primitive classics like ‘The Burning Spear,’ ‘Death Valley 69,’ and ‘I’m Insane’ (uncredited on sleeve), segues and live guitar changes ooze together threaded by Madonna tapes and vocal loops off the board (somewhat a necessity for distraction until the band had a full fledged stage crew to prepare guitars). The first two sides of Walls are massive, cavernous, with newly-drafted drummer Steve Shelley. SY tear it up especially on one trash-fi excerpt of ‘Blood On Brighton Beach’ (actually ‘Making The Nature Scene’) from a legendary outdoor gig November 8th where [Thurston] Moore, [Kim] Gordon and [Lee] Ranaldo’s guitars treble-blast dissonant shockwaves over the black-stoned beach of Quadrophenia fame.

“The record’s second slab spotlights an April 1985 at London’s Hammersmith Palais and was one of the final appearances live of Bob Bert on drums, again featuring some molten takes on ‘Brother James,’ ‘Flower’ (listed as ‘The Word (E.V.O.L.)’), and others. This document remains an essential representation of some lean and mean years of the quartet’s throttling march out into the world.” – Brian Turner

The usual Son Of Dave bag of tricks colours the album: Blues-harmonica, beat-box, cheap electric guitar, and that voice that shouts and croons his own brand of Blues infused old-school R&B.

As always, he messes with different rhythms: Funk, Boogaloo, Rock-Steady, or Techno, always doing it his own way. How do you categorize a Son of Dave album? He's become his own style, loved and shared by millions of fans worldwide. That's why you'll find his music in the Breaking Bad soundtrack and many more. You'll hear it on college radio or boomer generation blues radio programs from Switzerland to Argentina. A true maverick Bluesman.

Most of the record is done completely himself. All writing, instruments, editing, recording, mixing and artwork. You're welcome. Three exceptions are “Where's The Party At” , produced by long-time collaborator Tim Gordine in London, and two recorded on Vancouver Island by Zac Cohen at lovely Woodshop Studios, “Yahoos” and “I Told You All I Know”. Son House was one of the most influential delta blues
singers and was famous for his emotional style of signing
and slide guitar playing. Father of Folk Blues presented
him to the public during the 60s folk revival. The roughness
of his voice and intensity of the metal sounds from his
guitar are prominent on the album. Nine tracks which can
be considered as gems and all telling the story of a hard
working man and the intrigues of life. The blues comes
alive in subjects as women, religion, war and crime. The
album features guitarist and harmonica player Al Wilson,
a founding member of Canned Heat. This release is an
original 1965 re-issue.
During his early 20s Son House turned to the blues after
working as a preacher and pastor. He developed his own
unique playing style, full of emotional layers and rhythmic
melodies. During the American folk music revival he began
performing for young audiences and became known as
the Father of Folk Blues.

Somnolent rises from the abyss with its new album The Infernal Expanse, an immense aural beast of infernal and diabolical black/death industrial dark ambient chaos fuming from the monstrous jaws of total hell and oblivion. The band comprises of founding solo multi-instrumentalist Jessi Nihl (noctis, ex-LYCUS, ex-NECRITE, among others) on guitars, synths and electronics, joined on this release by vocalist MA (abstracter, Atrament, ASH Prison), and the work sees the duo revel into unseen deconstructions of reality, fusing dark ambient, ritual industrial, noise and cancerous black/death metal debris to unearth the quintessence of infernal sonic abandon. The Infernal Expanse both complements and diverges from Somnolent's lengthy mostly digital-only and purely electronic dark ambient and harsh noise discography, and sees the project expand its instrumental arsenal and apocalyptic yield to catastrophic effects. Adding percussions, strings, violins, and a churning cauldron of crushing metal guitar abstractions to the preexisting electronic dark ambient substrate, with The Infernal Expanse Somnolent deliberately embrace certain malevolent and diseased strains of extreme metal, morphing into an otherworldly sonic cataclysm of hellish atmospherics, suffocating hallucinatory soundscaping, and flesh-scaring ritual black industrial madness.

Leo Shulman aka Somni moved to Los Angeles from Hampshire, UK with his family when he was eight years old. From a family of mostly classical musicians - his father Andrew Shulman is a notable session and concert cellist (LA Chamber Orchestra, LA Philharmonic, Britten Quartet, London's Philharmonia Orchestra) - he studied classical guitar from a young age, also learning drums, bass and piano. The album features an array of instrumentation, from the common: acoustic guitar, upright and electric bass, drums, synths; to the more exotic: kalimba, melodica, zither, toy piano, and accordion, alongside field recordings and cassette tape manipulation. Both in narrative and in wordless harmony, Leo's vocals across the record are pitched and manipulated adding a further layer of otherworldliness. Inspired into songwriting by artists like Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse and Cat Power in his early teens; inspiration from the LA beat scene, notably Low End Theory, and artists like Amon Tobin, Portishead, J Dilla, Flying Lotus and Shlohmo brought together a fitting collision of these two worlds in his own music.

Soma (Sacred Order of Mystic Apogees) is a group of musicians from central New Jersey who gather together to create eclectic devotional music. The members are multi-instrumentalists who play a blend of meditative soundscapes woven together with traditional Indian kirtan* music and inspired folk songs. As you will hear on Burning is Learning, each song, vibration, and drone is treated with the utmost reverence, attention, and respect—all of which acknowledge Soma’s link in an unbroken chain to the ancient sounds. It’s a heady and heavy experience. It’s celebratory and reflective. The album is a unique approach to sounds that have been resonating for thousands of years. With roots in the DIY hardcore punk and metal scenes of their home state, the combination of traditional instrumentation (harmonium, tanpur, and mridanga, for example) with their modern sense of heaviness is quite profound. Soma’s live performances are as intense as their recordings, landing them in temples, churches, concert halls, bars, and even cremation grounds. Plans to tour are in the works. Burning is Learning is a reference to the Sanatana Dharma belief that cremation can help the soul achieve moksha, freedom from the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The album was recorded with Phil Caivano (Monster Magnet) at Studio 13 and Shorefire Recording Studios and mastered by John McBain (Monster Magnet, Wellwater Conspiracy, Desert Sessions). For listeners who enjoy everything from Alice Coltrane, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Debashish Bhattacharya to OM and Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Solpara's new album, Melancholy Sabotage, marks his return to Other People. While it was recorded over Covid lockdowns, Jaar had been talking about wanting to back a Solpara full-length since he put out Swing. The album came to life while Solpara was living alone in a Brooklyn loft, collecting unemployment checks and viewing ample free time as the artist residency he'd dreamed of; he'd previously been forced to make music in odd windows between numerous jobs and the unmerciful pace of city life. Free from obligations, he would wake up early to take Arabic lessons, read Tracey Thorn's autobiography, and skateboard the deserted streets, then come home and design sounds until he had a track that felt like it needed to be released. While this easy going lifestyle was peaceful in many ways, Solpara found more complex inspiration in the emotion that stemmed from participation in Black Lives Matter protests and the 2020 Beirut Port explosion which rocked all of his extended family members in Lebanon.

Working with a mix of VST synths, guitar, live vocals, and plugins, Melancholy Sabotage is Solpara's uneasiest outing to date. "The melancholy is going and going. It's both beautiful and painful and you can get engulfed by it, but you can sabotage it," he muses on the album's title. The record pinpoints the duality at the heart of Solpara's sound, which is as plaintive as it is searing.
