Record Kicks presents "Yours Truly", the new album by Bordeaux's "Soulboy", Mr. Alexis Evans. Like fine Red Wine, "Soulboy" Alexis Evans gets better with Age. The best evidence of this is his brand new album "Yours Truly", set for release on February 3rd, 2023 on LP, CD and digital via Milan-based label Record Kicks. Produced and mixed by Louis-Marin Renaud (Lou Doillon, Theo Lawrence, Desmond Myers), "Yours Truly" is the third studio album by Bordeaux-based singer-songwriter Alexis Evans and sees the light 4 years after his previous LP "I've Come A Long Way", defined "Soul album of The Year" by Rolling Stone France. "Yours Truly" consists of 12 brilliantly soulful cuts that take direct inspiration from 60's & 70's classic soul music adding a sound that is firmly rooted in the new millennium. Anticipated by the first single "Mr Right On Time", the album was recorded between Bordeaux and Nantes during 2021 and beginning of 2022. The idea behind the new album was to find a unique sound, mixing classic 60's & 70's soul music with more contemporary influences such as hip hop beats, jazz, reggae, and Caribbean sounds. To do that, Alexis paired up with producer Louis-Marin Renaud, known for his work with French-English singer, actress and model Lou Doillon and country-soul rising star Theo Lawrence, who took part in the arrangements and mixed the album. "All instruments were recorded live, some titles were completely live and others got modified, cut, sampled, depending on the tunes in a kind of beatmaking way. It was a very fun and fulfilling project that will sound awesome on stage for sure," explains Alexis. Lyrically, the album could be described as soulful everyday rhymes.

This new 7-inch by S-tone Inc., that includes two brand new tracks, confirms Stefano Tirone’s 20-year old collaboration with Brazilian songwriter Toco. “Try My Love” is a fluid, relaxed and dreamy funk song that blends soul jazz with a ‘70s downtempo drumming groove. “Odoya”, featuring Toco on vocals, is a bit more faster composition, that would perfectly fit as a soundtrack of a typical Italian police movie from the same decade! Simply fantastic!

Stefano Tirone is an eclectic artist, open to a wide range of different music genres. Dune Castle Presents For Private Use Only, two singles from Cantrips, the studio project of Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and composer Patrick Ryan. Featuring members of Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo and Cantrips, this release follows a record composed by Ryan under Dune Castle named Dark Age Martial Arts, which received significant airplay and support from Radio DJs around Australia on stations such as PBS, RRR and FBI, as well as support from record stores in the UK such as Mr Bongo and Rarekind records. Dark Age Martial Arts was also nominated for best album in the Australian Music Prize 2022.
For Private Consumption contains two heaving psychedelic funk tracks, The Prayer and The Big Break, both of which take cues from David Axelrod's work with the Electric Prunes. Recorded in producer Toby Pazner 's Bedroom on a Tascam 388, t hese tracks paint a vivid picture of the early development of the sound that has become synonymous with The Olympians: heavy drums, lush strings, and layered horns, all woven together by a group of New York's most sought after studio musicians and Pazner's production. "Midnight Movement" is a moody, psychedelic shuffle, reminiscent of an acid trip gone incredibly well! Backwards guitars, vibes, and tremolo strings are there to help you through the journey. You'll have no problem spinning this one till the ride's over. This 45rpm single anticipates the new full-length album by Alex Puddu, a real specialist in
the field of groovy imaginary soundtracks with a strong ‘70s vibe. The title of this 7’’ is “The
Bull”, and it’s the most representative track from the upcoming record “In the Eye of the
Cat”, which undoubtedly is one of Puddu’ s best and cohesive works to date.
As Nils Markvardsen (editor of the film magazine eXtase and film festival curator) says in
his liner notes featured on the album, “The Bull” confronts you with some intense flute and
a killer groove and here it’s easy to imagine a mob of armed gangsters robbing a bank in
an Italian crime film/poliziottesco!
As a B-side we have “Sequenza Erotica” (Erotic Sequence), an unreleased track that can
only be found on this 7’’, spreading that sexy cinematic feeling typical of Puddu’s production
(see for example his “Golden Age of Danish Pornography” series).
As for “In the Eye of the Cat”, Nils Markvardsen also defines it as a reference to the Italian
giallo film genre of the 1960s and 70s. These lurid murder mysteries/thrillers, featuring
black gloved killers lurking in the dark, gorgeous young ladies being chased and artistic displays
of blood and cruelty, usually had horrifying and imaginative film titles, in many cases
with the words; eye(s), black, blood, death, killer and the name of an animal of some sort
thrown in the mix. [...] A nice homage to giallo maestro Dario Argento from fellow Roman
Alex Puddu.
The North African influence on the percussion can be found throughout the album; it has
that groovy, vibrant 70s vibe. The varied selection of instruments (organ, flute, moog, bongos,
cello, violin, drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars etc.) blend flawlessly into each
other and make this

Calvin Richardson is a bit of a chameleon, smoothly able to transition between the most heartfelt gritty soul ballads to the latest cutting edge urban R&B that now dominates the more mainstream sound of today's "Black America".

‘Paper Man’ is a major discovery for lovers of Sam Dees’ music and the Atlanta/Birmingham soul sound of the 70s. Written and recorded in that productive period, it has only just been found in the vault of Moonsong / Clintone recordings. Sam Dees worked with Alpaca Phase III for the Atlantic release ‘I Like To Party’ in 1974 and a Clintone release the following year. He co-wrote this ballad with Wes Lewis and Ken Walker from the group (he also composed ‘Someone To Run To’ with Wes Lewis and group member Berry Collins).

Dees is the vocalist on ‘False Alarms’, one of several brilliant Dees compositions first released on his “Second To None” Kent CD in 1995. With “so tied up” being such an important lyric in this song, it is conceivable that it is a forerunner of ‘So Tied Up’ which featured on his Atlantic LP at this time.

Richard Hartley has had a prolific career as a singer and musical director, travelling across the world to work with choirs and musical icons such as Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross. He is pastor at Haven International Ministries, New York and star of his own reality television show ‘The Rev’.

The A side of this 45, a brand new track from Aaron Frazer, is about how pressure makes diamonds. The last couple years have been really challenging, especially for those navigating relationships amidst the chaos. This song celebrates the connections of love that are strong enough to weather any storm, and the certainty that comes from making it through together. The B side features a track from Aaron's first solo LP, Introducing. Lyrically, Frazer sounds lovesick; the imagery he paints of demons "so close behind" and the repetition of these lyrics emphasize his longing. The song starts with piercing guitar, dark bass, and chime piano and Frazer himself drums throughout the song. The orchestration is swell while the strings and voices blend well with the transcendent feel of the music.
