Perhaps one of the most exciting and anticipated projects in the world of heavy instrumental music is Parlor Greens, a fresh organ trio on Colerine Records! You could say that Parlor Greens are greater than the sum of their parts.. however, the individual parts are simply stellar on their own. Tim Carman (ga-20) on drums, Jimmy James (True Loves, formerly Delvon Lamar Organ Trio) on guitar, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players, The Sugarman 3) on organ. Parlor Greens started off as an idea before it even had a name. Carman had been chatting with Colemine label boss Terry Cole about their shared love for organ combo records of yesterday on labels like Blue Note and Prestige. Cole said he'd love to have an organ trio be the first project at the label's new studio, Portage Lounge, located in Loveland, Ohio, So when Carman tapped James and Scone for the session, the stage was set. Carman and Cole had started work a day early to dial in the drum sound, so when the rest of this murderer's row arrived they hit the ground running. It was instant chemistry, Within the first ten minutes of everyone plugging in, a song was written and recorded, "West Memphis". And over the next three days, these three maestros conducted a beautiful and soulful symphony straight to tape. As natural and fun as three old friends getting together after a long absence, only this was the first time they had written and performed together. True magic. So this is the result of that session. Paul Tillman Smith is a significant figure within in the music community of Oakland/Berkeley, California. His connections and collaborations read like a who’s who of famous musicians. As leader of 70s Buddah Records group ‘Vitamin E’ and then onto ‘Bridge’, the subsequent band cut an album in 1981 for the CBS distributed Bang label that never saw the light of day. It was released by First Experience Records as a double LP and CD in 1999 and is recognised as being one of the finest unreleased discoveries within its genre. Paula Parfitt signed to Milton Samuels’ Beacon label in 1969, age twenty, and released her debut single, “I’m Gonna Give You Back Your Ring,” on 26th September. Previously she had toured with Jeannie and The Boyfriends and appeared, unwittingly, on the populare TV hoax show Candid Camera. The company had faith in what they considered a catchy pop song but it failed to chart. Of course, they promoted the wrong side and as the UK Northern Soul scene bloomed “Love Is Wonderful” exploded onto the dancefloor where it has remained for over 50 years. Paula cut a second single for the Beacon subsidiary UpFront to no avail. She later married an Italian and recorded two further singles for Ricordi and Bella before setttling into Meditorianian life.

Jeannie DEE hailed from Brixton, London, and signed to Beacon Records in 1968 as one half of the duo Jon (aka Terry) and Jeannie. Often confused with the American soul singer of the same name, and not surprisingly, since the duo covered Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson’s “Lover’s Holiday” and Chris Kenner’s “Something You Got” for their first release. Their follow-up 45 carried on the soul beat with a cover of Jimmy Delph’s “Don’t Sign The Papers” and, here, we showcase her fine solo cover of the Supremes’ classic “Come See About Me” produced by Donnie Elbert.

Since it exploded onto the scene circa 1974 it has remained close to our hearts and finds itself, quite rightly, in the top ten of the Northern Soul Hall of Fame.

The Epitome Of Sound were born in the mid-sixties as The Megatons and released a solo 45, the aptly named, “Detroit Sound”, in 1965. The original 3-piece, Bob Ligatino, Eddie Dill and lead singer Eugene Thomas were later joined by Mike Paladino and Joe DeJohn – the line-up that would become Epitome Of Sound. It was Mike’s brother, Robert Paladino, that wrote the now legendary “You Don’t Love Me” and “Where Were You” and he organised the recording session at the all-new Venture Sound in Bound Brook, New Jersey. Paladino produced the session and studio co-owner Tony Camillo handled the arrangement adding horns and strings. Alvin Cash and Jerry Ross (manager of Jay and the Techniques) both offered to buy the rights in order to re-record the songs but the group preffered to go with a new local start-up label called Sandbag. The record was an instant regional hit reaching #11 in Cleveland before the label fell into bankrupcy signaling the end for the Epitome Of Sound… the rest is history!

Harvest is the first Balthvs album composed by all three band members and the name reflects where the band is currently. After 4 years of the industry grind they have seen massive growth in the digital sphere with over 15 million streams; as well as gracing theaters and festivals across North America and Europe. It is truly Harvest time. Recorded in a villa amidst lush tropical hills in Colombia, Harvest is optimistic, groovy, and relaxing. The trio spent a month-long sojourn at a tropical summer house in La Mesa, Colombia to record. As the band recalls, “More than a studio we wanted to be inspired by nature. So we brought our recording equipment there and started working.” The tropical landscape served as more than just a backdrop; it was the wellspring of inspiration for Balthvs. Unlike their previous albums, where Balthazar Aguirre took the lead in recording, composing, producing, and arranging, this time around, the music emerged as a collective effort, with all three members contributing equally to the creation of every song. It is a sonic testament to a period of profound artistic and personal growth. The band comments, “It defines our closure with this beautiful stage of our life and career as friends and musicians.” The full album features vocals that harmonize like instruments, weaving lyrical poetry into a tranquil groove. Most evident in songs like “Like Coconut Water,” an effervescent song that captures the essence of a tropical escape. “Anouk” is a gorgeous groove dedicated to the house cat at La Mesa, the sphinx-like guardian who set watch during the recording sessions. “Mango Season,” a laid-back, funky, and soulful instrumental groove perfect for relaxing, skateboarding, and looking at clouds. “Aguacero” is one of the few compositions with lyrics and sung in Spanish by bassist, vocalist Johanna Mercuriana. “Lovin’” and “Sun & Moon” were released during the band's first North American tour where they were greeted by sold-out shows and critical accolades from their Sxsw sets.
