The second release on TB Arthur's (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with Magda as Blotter Trax. The pair first encountered each other at the famous Motor City record store Record Time, when Detroit artist BMG introduced his then co-workers Magda and Derek Plaslaiko to Arthur, who was visiting the shop from Chicago. Sometime after that meeting, Magda and Arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4" tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1A is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. Full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2A then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. Last of all, 2B snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. This, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

Love Not Sex is the second Stubb 12" from Paper Recordings' Ben Davis. The original is a melancholic slice of sunshine that draws inspiration from MOR and blue-eyed soul with a hefty dose of Balearica. Acoustic guitars, Rhodes, live drums and strings plus Crazy P's Tim Davis on bass provide the perfect cinematic backdrop for the plaintive vocals of Huw Costin (Torn Sail) and Rachel Foster. Japanese edit hero Mori Ra delivers his first ever remix and its a doozy. Keeping the bones of the original track, he takes it in to dark psychedelic waters with the help of former_airline's tripped out guitar. A spoken vocal tips it in to full balearic wonkiness that will have the likes of DJ Harvey and Bjorn Torske getting hot under their disco beards. Bergen's Leca employs his trademark stripped back crisp production for a warm, dreamy remix. Steel guitar, clicks, whirrs and a Nordic playfulness make for a cosmic journey in to the Northern Lights. The A side "Judy's Bass" clearly reveals Baaz's love of fat bassdrums and basslines in combination with classic drum machine and percussion elements while the stringline carries you away endlessly. With "Jeally" on B1 Baaz delves even deeper into percussion programming and creates a perfect deep track for the late hours. The mix of Dub and Techno is not exactly new. However, JPatterson found a way to combine these genres in a way that checks all the boxes to be classified as fresh and exciting. His rustic Prog-a-Dub grooves burst with reckless danceability, the sound of his tumpet has an emotional intensity that simply doesn’t exist in the digital music domain. But the catchiest element of his track Elevator is yet another one: It’s his voice and its contagious casualness. The Dub Version of this track is a bright summer day turned into rhythm and melody. It gets even more exciting than this, as a hand-selected group of party heads from the Acker family has remixed Elevator. Timboletti turned it into a slow, delirious afterhour groove (digital only). Dole & Kom redesigned it into an understated anthem. Copenhagen’s Tartelet is returning to their roots with a dancefloor-focused EP, Pizza Trance, from Dirk 81—a.k.a label head Emil M. Nyholm. Having previously dropped a slew of tracks as Muff Deep and CTEPEO ‘57 (with Max Graef), the DJ and producer is blessing the universe with three cuts of dancefloor heaven under a new moniker lifted from his days tagging concrete walls in the 90s. Influences draw everywhere from disco, to African hi-life, dub, Underworld, a few old trance records, and timeless house music.
Recorded over a year in Berlin and Copenhagen, the record kicks off with “M.F.C”, a disco-afro-house hybrid oozing with Roland Jupiter 6 keys and some funky drums processed on old equipment from the former USSR. The B-side spreads things deep and delicious with “Pizza Trance (Main Mix),” a euphoric serving of sounds that substitutes pepperonis and pineapples for glittering sequencers and a bangin’ bass drum.
The EP’s closer tastes like a bit of both, mixing up some more acid sounds into the recipe for a retro-sounding house track. It’s another tasty delight from the label that will fulfil any and all late-night cravings, especially if you fiend for Neapolitan pizza.. Leave room for seconds.

Kickflip Mike (Joschka Seibt) is back with 'Three Turtles' - a collaborative EP on Tartlet Records with Berlin bass maestro, Julius Conrad.
While Julius seems like a new addition to camp Tartelet, he's been in the extended family for years. The son of Jazz bass legend Jurgen Attig and childhood homies with Max & Kickflip, he's existed in the crew's inner circle since day dot.

What you get on Kickflip Mike and Julius Conrad's new record is a medley of gritty drum distortion, frenetic bass guitar-work and (as ever) a dumptruck of a groove.
As richly diverse as most on the Tartelet roster, it's a record that dabbles variously in analogue house, beat-led instrumentals & elements of breakbeat & garage - it's all here.

First out the traps is title track 'Three Turtles', a kick-heavy club jam overwritten with Julius' warm warbling basslines and wah-wah guitar.
After snaking through 'BBQ Skit', a wonky beat-erlude in the Madlib vein, the record winds into 'Some Joint', a wandering house workout with tons of virtuosity from Conrad's axe.
The EP closes on 'Voodoo Dude': a wonderfully deep finale snapped through with choppy breaks and fuzzy samples.

Taken from top to bottom, 'Three Turtles' is a record that shrugs off the limitations of 'club music' loose and playful enough to reflect Kickflip & Conrad's colourful lives outside the club, as well as inside.

Nitam’s debut Retold EP (U-TON 06) already set the tone in 2015, and here we are three catalogue numbers and 14 months later with his second 12" release on Unterton taking a similar line as his debut four-tracker did: new varied sonic themes with an overall fresh sound. Although still being young of age, Nitam outlines once again his interest in dance music from the late 80s and early 90s, presenting himself schooled by classic Detroit House as well as Chicago Acid House, but all without limiting himself to a restricted pallet of styles or catering towards musical expectations.
