Bestie Aydin under the name Nene Hatun: a Turkish Berliner, crossing 'psychedelic-anatolian techno-pop' and 'dark drone wave music'.
Field recordings and samples — choral chants in church, du‘a’ from a mosque, small girls singing in the street — are layered with a piano prepared by placing various metals on the strings, and played by plucking or striking, often in the traditional rhythms of darbuka and davul.
"The A-Side is more classical in its form," says Bestie, "but the ideas are more unnoticeable. It's more technical, with a lot of small details and samples. The B-Side on the other hand is more obvious in ideas but the form is obscure, with my approach just to play on the gear and make something impulsive, and analyze after."

Audiosapr is one of the most consistent albums you re likely to come across in Russia s GOST ZVUK entire back catalogue. Surprisingly, the full-length by Saint Petersburg s scene veteran Kuzma Palkin is a compilation of random jams and studio recordings he made in the period of 2014-2015, carefully pieced together by label s masterminds. SAPR stands for the System of Automatic Projection (a Russian term for Computer-Aided Design, CAD) which defines the album s experimental yet complex and interlocking heart. Based around a central theme of immediacy and spontaneity, Audiosapr builds upon the foundations of early, pre-Detroit era of electro and techno, and then progresses the wispy entrails of analogue gear in a contemporary dancefloor direction. It s clearly music that can be attributed as hybrid, however it s not you re going to think about while listening to Audiosapr , Palkin s definitely most inspiring work to date.

Late last year, the world was introduced to DJ Wey via “Nosebleed,” a singularly jacking piece of house destruction on the Lovers Rock no. 6 compilation. Now the enigmatic producer returns to the LR fold with his debut EP “Introduccion.” Across four tracks, Wey maps a wild, tripped out terrain, both sinister and fun: “Anthem Para La Club,” recorded with J. Albert as Amigos DJs, bounces bitter tales of rejection against a twisting, unrelenting drum track. With Wey on the mic, jokes seethe and complaints dissolve into laughs, while the percolating drum pattern takes on a truly anthemic quality. Elsewhere, Wey indulges his dreamier side: “Emily’s” infectious, bouncing bassline and wandering leads are soaked in emotion, while “Tare Gent Us” builds on the sickeningly-sweet tension of “Nosebleed.” Finally, “Llanganatis” closes out the EP with a moment of breathtaking introspection. Unfinished melodies flicker across aquatic pads, while a distant electro beat betrays the producer’s Miami roots. Step Time Orchestra was the collaborative work of producers Jori Hulkkonen and Toumas Salmela, who began producing music together in the nineties whilst studying in Oulu, Finland. Whilst all their friends would be getting up early to go to university, they would only just be going to bed, having spent the night listening to house records from New York, drinking Whiskey and programming their MPC 2000!
Step Time produced a slew of tracks during this time, some of which were licensed and pressed on 12" singles during the late nineties/early noughties on labels operating in North America and Europe, but not everything they made saw the light of day. Heavily influenced by labels like Ibadan and Spiritual Life Music at the height of the New York House Scene, 'Jazz Error NYC' and '2am in Africa' were never signed, not fitting the profile of their other releases at the time, they were left in the drawer and sadly forgotten!
Skip forward to Winter 2016, and FBNM's Lorenzo, whilst over on a DJ excursion, visits Jori in Finland. Keen to keep working together, he presses him for something uniquely special. Magically, the Ajos E.P jumps out of the drawer into Hulkkonen's hand, and as it turns out, it has aged with a rather remarkable grace. Written using a combination of MPC sequencing and an Atari ST powering vanilla Cubase for some midi programming duties, it features the sounds of the Italian made Siel Opera 6, an Alesis S4 Rompler and other vintage Roland, Yamaha and Kawai Synths. They went full out on this one, even finally learning to play keys for that jazzy piano action. It was recorded live through a soundcraft analog board with outboard Fx, creating a sound that transcended it's time to feel remarkably fresh today!
The Ajos EP is named after an area in their native city of Kemi, Northern Finland, which is where they wrote and produced it in 1999.

Echovolt is thrilled to finally bring you the work of the first Greek producer on their growing "reissue" catalog offering two ultra-rare recordings that lived on the shelf for exactly two decades.
The then 16-year old Starcount recorded those two stripped-down cuts straight to DAT tape in
his bedroom studio in Athens during the late 90s between cutting classes and sailing in the Aegean Sea.
Despite his young age both "Calma" and "Jeraldine" showcase top notch production skills with solid arrangements featuring the typical vocal samples of the period underlined by hypnotic melodies,
jazzy chords and a densely populated pallet of drum hits. It is most likely that the above mentioned tracks might be the earliest Detroit influenced productions ever made in Greece around that time!

Robert Rental was the stage name of Rober Donnachie (1952–2000), a British pioneer of post-punk, DIY, and industrial music. Originally from Port Glasgow, Scotland, he moved to the south of England with Thomas Leer in the late 1970s where he met Glenn Michael Wallis. Glenn was recording music with the group Heute and leaving to start his solo projects NKVD and Konstruktivists. Both were heavily involved with Throbbing Gristle and the Industrial Records crew. In the Summer of 1979, Robert invited Glenn to his studio in Battersea to jam. Robert on guitar and Glenn on an EDP Wasp synthesizer. For each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. Robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. The music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. On these recordings, Robert enjoyed playing like Robert Fripp of King Crimson, while Glenn channeled Wolfgang Flur of Kraftwerk. Influenced by Krautrock bands like Can, Neu!, Cluster/Harmonia, as well as Terry Riley and Brian Eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of Industrial music. Tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The LP is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by Robert Rental from Glenn’s archives as well as a handwritten note from Robert to Glenn. Each copy includes two photo postcards featuring a transcription of Robert’s letter and liner notes from Glenn Wallis.

Selwa Abd (originally from Morocco, currently residing in Brooklyn) uses the fictional character Bergsonist, from Brooklyn, Slovakia, as her musical guise. Derived from Deleuze's Bergsonism, Bergsonist uses intuition as a method to deliver her/his instinctive psychoanalytic theories. A blend of different audio sources and samples are used as a way to capture the essence of the 'present' moment, manipulating found sounds along with self-concocted digital fragments to combine in in the span of a set, given time. Bergsonist allows inspiration to come from anywhere, yet she/he limits themselves by the gear/tools that are used. The approach consists of inhaling all the energy of the city - influenced by trips to museums, galleries, shows, talking to people. and sensing nature - and exhaling it sonically. Bergsonist reacts to this energy and inspiration without any specific rules, styles, or genres - extending the array of possibilities by always pushing preconceived uses of the tools. Following a slew of cassette-only releases from labels across the global map and a split 12" with Isabella on Borft Records last year, Selwa shares her most twisted and considered compositions to date with Mutation. Four fire-stoking tracks of electro convulsions sparked from indecipherable depths inflame new terrains for an artist whose output is inextinguishable - prolific barely covers the rapidity with which Bergsonist shares new jams to a lucky few - proffering Mutation as an indelible moment in Selwa's blossoming career. Mutation features a ripped / thrashed remix from in-the-cut edit wizard, Murray CY. Mutation will be available in a limited vinyl edition of 200 with artwork designed and conceived by Selwa and Benoit Canaud Studio.

Following on from Basement Jams #1, from all the way back in 2011, the boys bring us tracks with the same playful nature as before but, dare I say it, they go even harder this time. Stalwart fans of the first release can stop reading now because it will almost certainly be a blind-buy for you; four tracks obviously engineered for use in the club, whether its the massive kick in ‘What It Is’ or the ravey acid lead in ‘88cents’. The jams on the B-side may do the most damage. ‘Remember’ holds absolutely nothing back, with its arpeggiated bassline lead and crisper than crisp 909 drum programming. Analog is a term that gets bandied about all the time nowadays, ever since so many young producers became enamoured with tape compression and hiss delay plug-ins. Novo Line reprises the meter-messing genius of his Movements album with the Dyad mini LP - a brilliantly uncompromising follow-up for Ecstatic. Exclusively using the tools of ’88/’89 professional recording set-ups - namely the Atari ST, but with a slight algorithmic alteration. While it’s increasingly hard to find new tricks in old gear, especially with the resurgence of hardware fetishism and the ubiquity of DAWs, that’s exactly what Nat Fowler has been doing for the best part of a decade as Novo Line. By, in his own words, “misusing one algorithmic composition program (not, by a longshot, a professional music production tool of any epoch) contained in 208kb of data on a 3.5” floppy disk”, He generates and explores new permutations of old music which, ironically enough, sound fresher or at least more innovative than a lot of new music in circulation right now.Inputting ever-changing parameters of melody, and 29 year old algorithms, the machine’s voice is live-mixed and presented un-rendered as maxed-out waveforms via 1MB RAM, resulting in a severely compressed and combusting effect that leave mastering and sound engineers the world over scratching their heads in puzzlement. However, the effect is equally enthralling to anyone whose ears have become overly accustomed to contemporary emulations of ‘space’ in electronic music, and genuinely sound unique in relief of the contemporary field.The release poses a playful question: can a record be ambivalent as to which speed it should be played? Celebrating vinyl and futhermore physical media, the listener is encouraged to find their exact speed of preference with the RPM toggle and pitch slider, that nearly forgotten joy in modifying speed in real time without a CPU mediating between the listener and sound; some tracks stumble heavily at 33rpm like boulders in the tumble dry, while others flash by at 45. In the taut, recoiling thud of Monad, thru the frenetic pop edit of Ennead to the ‘floor-curdling prong of Dyad Marcia on the front, to the forceful New Beat mutation Tetrad, and the mind bending Melpomenean Dyad which closes the LP, its some heavily challenging but deeply satisfying gear that seriously yet playfully messes with convention.Essentially Novo Line is revelling in the pure spirit of computer music and the sonification of dance music as we know it - born in the ’88/’89 phenomenon of techno-house music, including its Industrial/EBM precedents, and its New Beat/Euro House offshoots. Eric Maltz is a producer from New York City and now resides in Berlin, Germany.

He is a former employee of Halcyon records from its' OG glory days in it's first location in Red Hook/Carrol Gardens areas of Brooklyn.

The meaning of dreams usually stays hidden in stacks of abstract layers, obscuring their essence in surreal and bizarre imagery. Exploring the depths of our subconscious, they lead us from stories of lighthearted innocence to our most gruesome ghastly fantasies, making us live through multiple scenarios each and every night. For his debut full length “Too”, My Panda Shall Fly decided to collaborate with a variety of singers from all over the globe to explore their subconscious anxieties and fears together. Giving away control over the songs himself, he was only amazed by the results of this process that took over more than a year until final realization.

Just like in Ursula K. Le Guin‘s classic sci-fi novel “The Lathe of Heaven”, you can shape your dreams by becoming aware of the inner forces that invisibly guide you every day.

‘Kellion’ is the story of a young boy who was born into a mysterious world he explores with his curious eyes, ears and hands. Every new experience lets him grow as a person and also expands his knowledge of the world that surrounds him. His young mind is sometimes blurrying the lines between imagination and reality, dreaming and being awake, reality and fantasy. Making sense of this world in its very own unique way, his world is filled with fantastic and surreal magical creatures and quirky characters.

Over the course of the ten songs many different little adventures unfold and await the young boy, slowly building his character while he explores nature in all its varieties and learns to appreciate it. He lives through new emotions and gets to learn about his own feelings during the process. The title track ‘Kellion’ represents the very inner world of the kid – it is his cocoon where he can always return to and be safe after his journeys and adventures.

Immensely inspired by the beautiful simplicity embodied by the laws of nature, especially the number Pi and the notion of the golden ratio, Michał Lewicki has always been searching for new ways to implement mathematics into his music. But aiming for the perfect proportions while making the music feel natural and complex at the same time has been no easy feat. In the creation of “Ton” he applied a very technical approach, utilizing various random midi generators, midi delays, polyrhythms, pitch shifters, scales and more in order to create something that posseses a live on its own, bringing him as close as possible to a naturally occurring chaos we can find in the surrounding nature every day.

Now Michal really started his work, creating arrangements and progressions based on the simple sines and natural convolution, giving the track dynamics, adding layers of synths and instrumentation.

Coming this winter via the Berlin, Germany label Project: Mooncircle, is KRTS’s second full-length LP, Close Eyes to Exit. Inspired by recent world events, each of the album’s 12 tracks dwell upon the world we live in now, a world struggling to rid itself of corruption, hate, bigotry, and ignorance. The resulting record is equal parts raw, emotional, dense, and danceable. This is KRTS at his creative peak.

This record took me about 3 years to complete, and I feel like in many ways it’s a return to my roots of introspective, mellow, instrumental electronic music, a “home listening” record instead of a club or dance record. I’ve always tried to not pay attention to trends in electronic music and just make what I like, and this record is the result of going strongly in that direction – I’m making music for myself, and am inspired way more by older music than current trends in electronic music or the latest production techniques. My aim is to make music that stands the test of time.

‘Presidio‘ is very organic – I used a lot of real instruments throughout: rhodes, guitar, bass, melodica, and more. Not many overdubs were used: I was after a loose, human, unquantized feel in much of it. However, I still use a lot of synthesizers and drum machines – I love the contrast between perfectly timed electronic sequences and loose, human, even “sloppy” timing.

About 2 years ago I moved to a remote, forested part of San Francisco – the Presidio, and the isolation of living in the forest next to the Pacific Ocean strongly influenced my approach to recording. My home studio is near the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge, and is surrounded by miles of trails and foggy eucalyptus groves. At night I hear foghorns, owls, and coyotes. I think living in a place like this has made me more introspective, more creative, and more willing to take my music in directions that are very personal.

Fog is a regular fixture in San Francisco, but it’s especially omnipresent the closer you get to the ocean. Fog and reverb are closely related in my mind – I like creating dense washes of sound in my music, where all of the elements bleed together into a beautiful gaussian blur of sound.
