Almost halfway through 2023, Voitax returns with a bass heavyweight of the highest order.

Marc alias Tymotica has been showcasing his musical ambitions not only as a founding member of the Munich-based label »Ruffhouse«, but also through his sonic ventures as a DJ and producer. Luca, on the other hand, an equally ambitious DJ and producer going by the name of DJ Ion, has his roots in hip-hop, jazz, and 90s techno. His debut on Don Williams’ a.r.t.less imprint proves that adequately. Their fusion turned out to be quite fruitful, as shown by their diverse yet well-centred record »Anthea« on Club Qu. With »Bionic Gradient«, their promising collaboration enters another chapter, a representation of their precise curation of musical components, as well as an impressive design of their sounds. This progressive bass EP features dubstep-, grime-, trap-, and hip- hop influences, nuanced with dub and IDM. Through each track, the duo links crispy polyrhythms with well-chosen samples that perfectly complement the contemporary, high defined sound. Catchy leads, long reverb tails, metallic soundscapes, and detailed drum programming are carefully fused with the underlying warm bass body. All this comes down to an astonishingly eclectic bass EP that is built to be dropped on the dance floor, yet invites you to dive into an abstract and dreamy world on its own.

As both are continuously working on new material, we are more than excited about what is to come!

Returning to his home base, Rotterdam based electro-techno mainstay Conforce presents a heavy pack of angular, experimental approaches on his latest offering into the Delsin databank. Boris Bunnik's accomplished machine language has traversed deep and dubby soundscapes with punchy, club-focused fare alike, since 2010's Grace EP he has found a regular home on Delsin and it's always exciting to see what he comes up with next. Where Conforce has commonly housed Bunnik's more melancholic, introspective work, the sound palette on Sins Of Synthesis is more tipped towards darker dimensions. The shadow of braindance looms large, guiding the music towards twitchy pattern manipulation, alien textural design and dissonant harmonics. Bunnik's signature sense of melody can still be detected around the edges, from the distant, hazy pads of 'Charlatan' to the lingering chimes of 'Fragile', but this is a pointed new direction for Conforce and it's leading somewhere very interesting...

Santa Cata Records was conceived in the record store, Santa Cata in Palma de Mallorca. Founded 3 years ago it has become a hub for local artists, an essential digging spot for visiting DJs, as well as being open to all music lovers. With the vibrant local scene producing so actively, setting up a label was a natural step for us, providing a platform for the artists living on our beloved island. The first E.P. is from various artists living in Mallorca. International artists Dani Casarano and Hamid now spreading their roots on the island, and local talent in the form of Planetary Instincts own Dojo Zone and Halbert. The EP focuses heavily on the dancefloor, innovative modern music laced with old school influence. Mused Noise 005 features two original tracks by Daniel Chavez, a DJ & Producer born and raised in North Carolina where he discovered House music through artists like Kerri Chandler & Masters at Work. He eventually moved to Chicago where he worked at the famous Gramaphone Records. â€œReturn Jamâ€ EP was written & produced in 2021 as the dance music scene was returning to full force after being dormant due to the Covid-19 lockdowns. A1â€™s Return Jam kicks off with ambient textures creating an open soundscape with dubby pads and a driving bass line to keep the dance floor moving. His track on the B side, â€œNumber 3â€ follows a similar trend. A2 features a Return Jam remix from Pressure Point, an Italian DJ & producer who started to spin records at the age of 14. Raised among House & Minimal, Pressure Point brings together the influence of these two genres very nicely with a stripped-back electronic approach. On B2 we had Number 3 remixed by Moor who is based out of Amsterdam, providing us a punchy dub techno track with wonderful bass automations after having releases on labels such as Get Physical, Berg Audio, & Bla Bla Records.

Mathimidori is the dub techno leaning guise of Germany’s Mathias Kaden, known for his works under his own name on imprints such as Rekids, Ovum and Freude Am Tanzen, while Mathimidori material has found a home on the likes of Mule Musiq, Raum, Ornaments and of course Echocord where he returns here following 2020’s ‘Akebono’ LP.

Opening the release is ‘Anata’, a texturally dense six-and-a-half-minute composition fusing pulsating subs, billowing synth atmospherics, spiralling dub echoes and sporadic dubbed out spoken word running atop a crisp 4/4 rhythm. ‘Zanziba’ follows and dives deeper via ethereal pads, snaking low-end pulsations, choppy stab sequences and heavily echoing reggae chants.

Levon Vincent steps up to remix ‘Zanziba’ next, delivering a typically raw and dynamic rework, upping the energy levels as dub stabs dynamically unfold and retract amongst a thunderous low-end drive, intricate synth flutters and low-slung drums across its ten minute duration.

This project is the first of a series of recurring releases by Floors Records that will follow the same format. The French producer Kaffe Crème, known for the highly sought-Kaffe Crème EP in 2016, has contributed an original track to the project called ‘Nuits Sonores’. The track pays homage to the festival of the same name in Lyon, France, in a classic old-school House style. In addition, Chicago legend Ron Trent, widely considered one of the most talented and accomplished deep house producers of all time, has remixed the Gin Tonic Orchestra’s rework, adding his own unique touch as the Godfather of the genre.

Osunlade’s connection with R2 Records dates back to 2002 when we released his very first mix compilation, the timeless “Offering”. He went on to compile another 4 comps for the label as well as release side project The Piscean Group and remixes for Karizma and UnitedSoul. Now we are proud to announce the first original project by Osunlade to appear on R2 with the four track “Malcolm Bliss” E.P. Malcolm Bliss was a physician, dentist and university lecturer responsible for the creation of the first psychiatric hospital in Osunlade’s home town St Louis in 1939. In 1981 Ronald Regan abolished the Mental Health Systems Act leading to 40,000 beds in mental health institutions being lost. The result was an increase in homelessness and imprisonment, beginning the transition of the health system to the justice system where it remains today. Malcolm Bliss Hospital was closed in 1991. For the Malcolm Bliss EP Osunlade supplies four tracks with his unique and distinctive blend of meditative, ambient, circular, electronic house to ease any troubled mind.

It certainly takes no prisoners either. The track rattles and squeaks like an old feather bed while… oh, let’s leave that to your imagination. After such an exhilarating burst of exuberance, comes “fez” to smooth the waters. An arpeggio that seems quite serious at first glance doesn’t quite manage to get past Jonathan’s riotous mood unscathed. Half he pulled it, half it sank into him. Nobody gets out of here without a hangover.

BAG X COLLAPSING DRUMS is a collaboration between experimental producer Collapsing Drums (Charlie Behrens) and spoken word/electronic duo BAG (Jody DeSchutter and Dan Allison). Modular synth, spoken word, field recording, experimental play and abstract guitar are a few of the practices visited by the project.

Momentary Lapses was born of an improvisational outburst sewn into a back and forth process, the three diverse perspectives nurturing creation and dissection along the way. This album maps multiple landscapes and conditions as drawn by the trio in an exploratory document, providing a journey through textures and atmospheres, beats and spaces, construction and reassembly. During the 18 months of the album’s creation, a series of bereavements disrupted and informed BXCD’s journey.

DeSchutter’s dada-esque verse moves purposely forward, fragmented through synaesthetic habitats. Her words, woven into the electronic compositions of Behrens and Allison, touch on themes of re-interpretation, incongruity, and longing. Momentary Lapses celebrates all that is unknown, pluralistic, and paradoxical as proposed antidotes to a binary mode of knowing. Sonically bridging the gaps between postpunk, IDM and experimental, BAG X COLLAPSING DRUMS promises a fresh take on the possibilities of sonic abstraction.

‘DeSchutter treats words and syllables as malleable matter; haptic objects to be stretched out, twisted and molded. Allison and Behrens’ electronics, taking in dub-deep negative space, pristine sound design and ghostly frequencies, add not so much a backing track as a dialogic component. It’s back to the heart of disco with the next release — our sixtieth! — in Most Excellent Unlimited’s long-running series of collaborations with master editor Danny Krivit, this installment on long-play 12-inch vinyl.

Our A-side features the work of Euro-disco maestro Alec Constandinos, whose symphonic suites and long form arrangements for stars like Cerrone and Don Ray made him an essential ingredient on many a glittering dancefloor in the late ’70s. Love & Kisses was one of his earliest disco projects, and one of his most popular. Their song (the “band” was a studio fabrication of Constandinos) “I Found Love” stretches across the entire side of an LP in its original form, but for discerning disc jockeys who leaned towards the funkier side of the spectrum, the percussion and bass breakdown is where it’s at. And if you are a long-time follower of Mr. K, it will come as no surprise that it is here that he focuses his metaphoric razor on the iconic breakdown, and we are left with a tough, driving track that will suit throwback sets as well as slot nicely into modern uptempo programming. As an added bonus, stick around to the very end when Krivit lets the song’s memorable acapella sample (“And I suppose you thought it was all over??”) finish it out.

It simply does not get much bigger than Donna Summer in the world of disco. Her song “Heaven Knows,” a duet with Brooklyn Dreams singer “Bean” Esposito, is one of the many gems in her catalog, and one that still evokes powerful reactions in heads, both old and new. Produced by the dream team of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, the power and groove are propulsive and indisputable. Krivit begins with an extended "Mac Arthur Park" horn crescendo that teases the emotion before introducing a newly stripped down singalong verses and chorus of “Heaven Knows”. As the song progresses, a fabulous building effect until the end, a six-minute run through the clouds, enveloped in the ecstasy of that same horn crescendo. A sudden finale, fading into the ether, takes us out and leaves the listener (and DJ) with an open path of which musical road to take next, a master’s touch from an editor who excels at his craft.

Composer, sound artist and musician Svetlana Maraš has spent years developing her unique setup for live performances. She builds her live sets as frameworks for exploration by emphasising the sculptural and improvisational potential, rather than reproducibility. The core of Maraš' performative practice lies in the accessibility of all layers of what a 'musical image' at any given point consists of, and gestural manipulation of these layers.

Using micro samples as a basis of her musical vocabulary, Maraš treats her live setup equivalent to an acoustic instrument. Using tablet controllers running a self-built 'Touch Osc' interface, pedals and different pressure- based interfaces, she manipulates and morphs the material with the mindset of a sculptor, while exposing herself to the audience and the room. Her focus lies on the musical form and structure, while the shape of the sounds projected into the performance space define which turn she might take next. Maraš explains: "I am interested how sounds fill up the room, how they spread, how near or far they are, how 'big' or 'small' they seem, how they morph and move." With the set she played from 2019 to 2020, Maraš had reached an extreme regarding the handling and manipulation of micro samples and micro-collaging. -ous is releasing a live recording of this set as deep dive into the vast possibilities of live sound manipulation.

Svetlana Maraš is composer and sound artist active in the field of experimental music. Her work, which she presents internationally, encompasses variety of formats such as live performance, electro-acoustic composition, sound installations and works for the radio. She is the winner of the most prestigious Serbian composition prize "Mokranjac", awarded by the Serbian Composers' Association. From 2016-2021, she was composer in residence and artistic director at Radio Belgrade's Electronic studio, where she established numerous programs such as artistic residencies, educational courses and most notably, restoration of EMS Synthi 100. Currently, Maraš is Professor of Creative Music Technology and Co-head of Electronic Studio at Hochschule für Musik Fhnw, Basel.

Guy J is one of the leading artists in the world of underground dance music. However, his artistic appetites are far more diverse. His Malta-based label is a platform for cutting-edge producers, but Guy J rarely releases his production on the label. He has released only one of his musical pieces on Armadillo, an opening track (Aurora AM Mix) on a V.A. Fields Vol.2, until now. 94 Blossom is his twelve-minute showpiece, revealing his skill in the context of the finest electronica. The material is a sonic expedition based on contrasts of a hypnotic arrangement taking a conceptual journey from darkness to light. Guy J fuses arpeggio soundscapes and electronic percussions with improvised elements enabling the balance of mathematical structure and freestyle. The most memorable part of the journey is the Balearic-influenced end theme, thoroughly sticking the landing. Will electronic music be the classical music of the future? Bristol’s Remotif makes his highly-awaited debut on space•lab with his wormhole of a new EP, ‘Substation Fever’. Kicking things off on the A side, the title track enters the scene with spacious, organic drums, building in energy as we tunnel through its course; travelling from the cool, oxygenated air of a forest-scape into dazzling, far-reaching intergalactic realms.

Next up, ‘Substation Fever’ gets a dreamy reimagining courtesy of Leeds legend and space•lab regular, Adam Pits. Channelling the energy of Remotif’s original into a hazy, blissed-out cloudscape, this track was made for accompanying early morning sunrises where orange-hued dashes of light reflect off the surface of gently rippling water.

On the flip side, ‘Hi Tek Lo Life’, crackles with the fluctuating electrical impulses of a TV without signal or a radio between channels. Flecked with corroded vocal samples and billowing synthlines, this is a track that explores the inbetween - the moment when connection is almost lost, but not quite. There is a beauty in the roughened-edges of these partially obscured details.

The final track of the EP, ‘The Signal Prevails’ is perhaps an answer to its precursor. Opening out onto trip-hop-esque terrain, this track follows the path set out by a blurred-out, echoing vocal as it deftly works its way through narrow, winding pathways of powerful 90s-style breaks.

A much-loved DJ regularly making an appearance on space•lab’s lineups, we are delighted to now showcase Remotif’s skill in the studio with this mind-opening new EP.
