Hell Yeah heads to Brazil and the cultured sounds of Pedro Bertho for a hot new 12" that features Mariana Gehring and remixes from Romain FX and My Friend Dario. The digital version includes two bonus cuts while the vinyl is the first to have all-new artwork by FJD.

Now based in France, inclusive party promoter Pedro Bertho’s music is a melting pot of sound that draws on his own personal heritage and a life spent digging for records. That means that afro rhythms, Italo melodies, rolling reggae, deep house, and plenty more all get mixed up into something new.

They have come on the likes of Cracki Records and always search out innovative ways to bring euphoria to the dance floor.

For the first tune, he works with Mariana Gehring, a Sao Paulo-based singer and composer influenced by new MPB and other signature Brazilian sounds like Forro, Maracatu and Samba.

Their excellent 'Tornei' is a mix of full-fat bass and sensuous vocals. Fizzing synths, percussion and FX bring the energy while Gehring arrives in the breakdowns to bring the spine-tingling soul. Romain FX is a scene mainstay, label head at fauve, boiler room veteran and has released on the likes of Kalahari oyster cult and many more.

His version is a retro workout with lush cosmic melodies and slinky grown-up grooves sure to get the floor full.

Next is 'Elephants au 5eme', a busy mix of analogue drums and hits, wild elephant trumpets and fleshy synths that bring unusual tropical heat to any party. The same track is remixed by label regular and new school Balearic boss my Friend Dario.

He plays with the vocals, layers in shimmering chords, and keeps things dubby to make for another of his signature grooves.

Stunning liturgical shoegaze from Kranky’s Melissa Guion aka MJ Guider, originally released a couple of years back on a limited tape and now available once again in a new edition for 2023. Fuelled by pulsing drum machines, bells and an exceptionally expressive voice, it hits so many buttons for us all at once so as to feel like we’ve known it a lifetime, reminding us of sections of Cocteau Twins, Seefeel, Tropic of Cancer, Preisner’s ‘No End’ score, Cranes - but still in possession of its own unquantifiable spirit. Recorded as a music score to ‘Known Mass. No. 3: St. Maurice’, a collaboration with friend and choreographer Ann Glaviano, ‘Temporary Requiem’ makes use of the traditional Latin requiem mass across 6 movements designed to help transport “the congregation” to the dreamworld. The 10 minute opener ‘Kyrie: The Stained Glass Windows in Their Original Order’ opens from choral drones into a sort of rumbling dreampop reminding us of AFX’s reworking of Seefeel’s ‘Time To Find Me’, the melodic lead supplied by a padded bassline wrapped around countless layers of texture and sweeping, filtered hi hats. ‘Gloria: Small Dance of Gratitude’ re-purposes the thudding kickdrum opening Cocteau Twins’ ‘When mama was moth’, but swerves through a vocal keychange into something else entirely, all detached vocal yearning somewhere between love song and lament. Guion’s vocals have always been impressive but feel especially devastating here, leaving enough space for each sound to respire; ducking around slow-motion beatbox cycles and queasy electronics. She binds her biographical litany of inspirations into a coherent blast of pseudo- plainsong and ethereal post-punk, her voice tripping from morose low-registers into layered choral cascades that genuinely made this listener bottle up in a gulp. When we reach ‘Sanctus’ - the album’s shortest piece, a tape-rotted chant dissolves into an angelic aria. It’s an apt preface for ‘Benedictus’, the moment we’re shifted into gnarly droning landscapes of distended drone and saturated distortion. Somehow the tenor adjustment works, deepening Guion’s narrative and drawing parallels between vastly different forms of post-Catholic musical expression - there’s truly no light without darkness. On the finale ‘Agnus-Dei’, she bolts together both strains of expression, singing over walls of harmonic guitar fuzz and a drum machine that sounds like machinery pushing through sandstone blocks. The noise abates before the track dims to a flicker, as Guion’s operatic wails spiral deep into the pious abyss...

'Joy riding' is loopy disco-post-punk for a peak-time trip. Multi Culti man Dreems then brings the Afro party vibes with his 'Bususua' which is packed with dub fx and steeped in fun. Miserymix then throws in his Italo-licked post-disco and punk sounds on 'Adjust Your Love' before a big finale by Black Bones. He offers deep and dubby house that has been a secret edit for a while but finally gets unveiled here to great effect as it worms its way into your brain.

One of the greatest overlooked ’80s R&B cuts, “100%”, by the group Caprice, was written and produced by legendary disco mastermind Leroy Burgess. Joining forces with his regular songwriting partner Sonny Davenport and using the talents of The Aleems (Taharqa Aleem & Tunde Ra Aleem), it’s no surprise that the song is quality through and through. Created in 1985, the song has a tough, mid tempo electro funk feel that still holds up well today. Add in catchy lyrics and a great vocal performance, and you have a sure shot that will fit into a wide variety of sets. For this special reissue, there’s an exclusive, never-before-heard dub edit from Victor “The U. B.” Piagneri, of The Nubian Crackers, on the flip side. Replacing the awkward instrumental version of the original pressing. South-east Turkey born DJ, sound artist and producer Banu uses music as a political tool. For her, the strong message carried through sound is a vehicle to express emotions as well as a means of fighting against oppression. Using participation, social design, ecology, feminist and queer theory to create multimedia installations with sound as a main element, Banu‘s practice is closer to contemporary art and activist spaces than the club realm.

Banu‘s debut album TransSoundScapes is an exercise in female solidarity between her as a migrant woman and her sisters from the trans community, where an artist from one marginalised group is showing support towards her trans sisters, using her platform to help them amplify their voices and building a bridge towards a mutual understanding of femininity.

Conceptually, TransSoundScapes comes in continuation of Banu‘s previous research-based work, using music as a positive tool for change while working with various marginalised communities. The album originated from the very real experience of being confronted with verbal harassment in Berlin on a daily basis, particularly aimed at her transfeminine friends and companions. As a queer woman of Turkish and Kurdish origin, Banu did not only observe the verbal aggression directed at her friends, but also understood most of the insults shouted in languages such as Arabic. Seeing how she got signifi cantly more verbal violence directed at them when in company of trans people made a lasting impression on her, so she wanted to try and use her relative privilege to amplify transfeminine voices through her music.

Coming from a very conservative family, making music has been her lifelong dream. It was the moment she had the opportunity to work with the iconic Arp 2600 synthesiser (a younger sibling to Eliane Radigue‘s infamous 2500 machine) that all her disparate interests came into place to create an empowering soundscape with the aid of analogue drum machines. TransSoundScapes has a very full, porous sound, where every element that comes into play sounds soft yet clear. Across the 7 tracks, Banu conjures pounding subterraneous bassy techno („Surgery“), slithering tentacular EBM („First Time“) and pulsating cavernous soundscapes („Harem“), where oversized dancefl oor elements are woven with poetic spoken word passages, resulting in sensusous yet political anthems. Banu artfully merges loosely related genres such as techno, electro, dub and sound poems into a sound that is at once deeply personal and extremely compelling.

All of the tracks are collaborative efforts, Banu seeing the process as an exchange of care and shared experiences, while integrating research into her writing process. The lyrics in „Transition (part 1+2)‘‘ are an adaptation of Sara Ahmed’s “Living a Feminist Life”, while „Surgery“ was born out of series of interviews with trans people, channeling the metallic sounds of a surgery room to refer to society‘s perception of transness as a medical condition. Tracks like „First Time feat. Patricia“, „Harem feat. Prince Emrah“ or „We feat. Aérea Negrot“ document her encounters with various trans women, centering their life experiences while also developing a deep dialogue through the process of making music together.

The darkest and perhaps the most emblematic track is ‚‘Bianka (In Memory Of)‘‘, dedicated to the late Bianka Shigurova, a 22-year old Georgian actress found dead in her apartment. It was her Tbilisi photographer friend George Nebriedze who told her Bianka‘s tragic story, whose death is suspected to be an assasination due to transphobia. Banu chose one of Nebriedze‘s analogue photos of Bianka as the album‘s cover art.

This record doesn’t have a lyric in it, yet it speaks to me as a kid from a grey-ass town as clear as any pop song ever has. I dare you to play this and not feel it.

‘Tell Me Something Good’ sees the Scottish DJ/producer cover Rufus & Chaka Khan’s 70s jam of the same name, twisting catchy vocals and huge synth stabs into an ecstatic peak time club weapon. ‘Delta’ brings the tempo down, but keeps the energy levels high as piano chords drift effortlessly across a chugging breakbeat and rolling basslines, making for a feel-good closing track to another standout release from Trick.

For her outing on Patience, Swedish producer Johanna Knutsson departs on a sweeping, drifting electronica dream suite, a cloud-level glide through the subconscious that returns back to reality just before the alarm sounds. Dingsbums Homage is Johanna’s engulfing evocation of eyes shut wonder and a compelling 6th entry into the Patience catalogue of long-form explorations.

Conceived as a single piece, Dingsbums Homage features two distinct movements. The A side Bersteinsee floats into view on a soft breeze, with cosmic keys puncturing the ozone layer, before a gentle, almost tropical rhythm bobs into being and celestial shapes career in and out of view - comets, ufos or other, the truth is out there somewhere. The track settles into a supple groove that cruises on out of range, as whimsical synthesized strings bring part one to a close.

On Side B Beilsteinerstrasse picks up where the A left off, with an array of twinkling electronics, piano and snippets of memories in reverse weightlessly whizzing through the mind. The light sleep state is abruptly transformed by a monumental arpeggio that rises from the depths and propels the mind beyond the clouds and into a deeper inner space. Eventually the track re-enters the atmosphere and gently lowers to earth on some bittersweet strings, leaving a slowly dissolving outline of melancholic silver clouds behind the eyelids on waking.

Recently returned to Sweden after a long stint in Berlin, as a producer Johanna’s music veers between lucid, pumping techno and ethereal ambience. She's released records on Klasse Wrecks, Kontra-Musik, Oscillate Tracks and her own UFO Station Recordings, and she also ran Zodiac44 with Luca Lozano. Her DJ sets of nimble, spacey techno have seen her play sets in some of Europe’s finest outposts, and more recently she has performed ambient live sets at Intonal in Sweden and an all night “sleep set” at ADE, and in addition she composes music for documentaries.

Moar's skilful hands and exceptionally well-trained ears combine beautifully on all of his edits, and this is no exception. Full of space and room to breathe, the A-side's 'i' is a deep house/disco number and is a sparkling gem of a track. I can't tell you what the sources are, but the xylophone layered and looped over the dubby beats is a sweet spot you'll want to taste over and over. It could be a warm-up track, mixed into a peak time set, and is most definitely one for the late night set. Over on the flip this huge classic funky song has been beautifully re-rubbed by Moar, this fattens and tightens an already phat and tight classic groove with some electro flourishes. A very respectful mix perfect for the dancefloor! Hand stamped records & limited press.

Released in conjunction with the reissue of the Raintears EP, Quindi is proud to present further archival finds from Italian experimental project Cabaret du Ciel. Like a Fool / Inside Loneliness is a single shining a light on the brief collaboration between Andrea Desidera, Gian Luigi Morosin and singer Barbara Volpato. After years working as an instrumental outfit, the sessions with Volpato from 1991 were the first time Desidera and Morosin’s project had welcomed in a vocalist. Of the many tracks written and recorded at that time, the best two were selected and carefully restored from the original tapes, now immortalised on vinyl and expanding the public impression of Cabaret du Ciel. ‘Like A Fool’ re-imagines the hazy serenity of Cabaret du Ciel in a dream pop context, injecting the soft-focus synth work with the energy of bold drums to provide a suitable framework for Volpato’s voice. The crisp twang of new wave guitar completes the picture, while the trademark progression intrinsic to Cabaret du Ciel lends itself to the traditional song structures of pop. ‘Inside Loneliness’ is a natural companion to the A side, redolent with the heavy-hearted synth-pop romanticism of the late 80s and early 90s. The DIY sound on the track conveys an intimacy that can only come from artists recording in their own private environment, pouring their hearts and souls into a four-track recorder without a conceit other than pure, honest expression.

Quindi Records returns once more to the swooning romanticism of Cabaret du Ciel, the long-running project from Andrea Desidera and Gian Luigi Morosin. After the contemporary material which made up long-player The Breath Of Infinity, Raintears heads back into the group’s archives and focuses on a limited cassette release from 1991. Originally released on Morosin’s own Ionisation Tapes, Raintears is described as heralding a new phase for Cabaret du Ciel following their earlier Solarisation and Weather Colours cassettes. This revised, expanded version of the release opens with ‘Raintears (Piano Version)’, which originally came out on an Ionisation compilation entitled Imago Sonora 1. Truly evoking the spirit of the track and its meaning, it was recorded on a rainy Sunday afternoon when Desidera’s friend and trained pianist Francesco Martignon heard the original melody for ‘Raintears’ and proceeded to improvise on the theme, with Desidera and Morosin embellishinbg Martignon’s exquisite playing with subtle touches of synth and sampling. In its fragile, tape-worn repose, the piece is loaded with the delicate ambience a rainy Sunday afternoon implies - calm, melancholic and wistful. ‘A New Day’ is a piece cast in light and shade, contrasting two core melodic phrases expressed through synth and guitar, with a light touch of speech sampling adding to the cinematic poise of the track. ‘Time Of The Twins’ originally appeared as a single track on the cassette release, but here it’s framed as two distinct parts which meet in the middle. The first half is patient, gliding ambience rich in the harmonic interplay and winding narratives which typifies Cabaret du Ciel overall.

The debut full length album from Gloved Hands, entitled Empty Terminal, finds the musician straying from the dance floor in search of something amorphous and less tangible. Ambient in nature, the eight tracks that comprise the LP have a deep focus on texture, space, and human feelings rather than a need for constant propulsion and momentum.

The A-side, the more rhythmic and percussive of the two, is awash with vague echos and smudged, slow-moving chords. Subaqueous drums shift in and out of focus. Sound sources are at once distant and intimately close. The curtains part to reveal a glimpse of a crystalline melody or a fraction of a vocal phrase only for the room to fill with fragrant smoke and go dark. It is a place beyond the dance floor. Perhaps it's a place without any floor at all.

The B-side is even more fragile and diaphanous. The foreground and background are obscured, leaving a hazy mesh of delicate, interwoven forms and rhythms; glistening and brushing against one another in the warm, dimly-lit space in between. With a swirling mix of cavernous bass and sweet-but-never-saccharine melody, the details are stretched and abstracted into something new yet familiar. The compositions ripple in midair, appearing and vanishing, close but just out of reach.

To make attemporal electronic music is one of our objectives and this record in particular deserves a place in the list of music to be played loud when all this nightmare finishes. First cut on wax is Of sleep and tears, an emotional title that describes a dronney atmospheric introduction. Beatless, textured, full of resonant details and space wind. Pouring Flesh brings the beat to the scene with a clear bass drum and a shuffled bassline setting the patch to martian synth noises and stereo details, all enclosed in an intelligent structure full of subtle twists and hypnosis. The thinking hand combines synthetic details with precise beats on a progressive arrangement.Elements come into action wisely, pulsating electronic grooves fighting with floaty elements make the recipe. Fluids above the skin open the B side in a darker mood. Heavy sub bass action and profound synthesizer lines setting the mood for what comes next. Shedding machines acts as an ambient interlude in similar coordinates as the first cut in this mini LP. Closing the release Fluent Gods, an electrified mental dance workout using a similar sound palette as the previous ones. The fifth release on Tempo Dischi comes from one of the true pioneers of Italian disco: Maurizio Dami aka Alexander Robotnick. 'Problèmes d’Amour' and 'Computer Sourire', included in the mini album "Ce n’est q’un début" are two fundamental songs in the history of electronic music made in Italy. 'I started with music very late. I was 27 years old. In the early 80s Florence became the music capital of the new rock in Italy. There was a movement, different from what we were used to in the 70s, varied in activities ranging from theater to music, from design to fashion to graphics and comics. There was also a lot of attention to what was happening in the world, starting with northern Europe and the United States, but also other countries. I went to popular music school and started learning to play jazz guitar, but I was immediately hooked by the music of Kraftwerk and in 1982 I founded my first band, Avida. It was a sort of electronica and new wave, with “stupid” and ironic Italian lyrics. Irony is a fundamental part of my music, probably due to my feelings. The following year I met the Bigazzi brothers, from Materiali Sonori, a very small avant-garde label from a very small town in Tuscany. One day Giampiero told me "You can make some money with disco music". My dream was to be able to live on music’. Within a year he produced in the same studio "Problèmes d’Amour" and "Computer Sourire", with Marzio Benelli and the production and direction of Giampiero and Arlo Bigazzi. Both songs are included in the mini Lp "Ce n'est q'un debut" released in 1984, considered a milestone of the electronic music made in Italy. ‘It wasn't Italo Disco, of which I don't consider myself either a pioneer or a progenitor’ recalls Maurizio ‘My sound, I think, influenced more than anything else Chicago and Detroit house and then Dutch electro-disco and 2000's electro-house’. The vinyl includes the highly sought after Remix version of Computer Sourire, never reissued so far, the Tempo Dischi cut of the original version and the bonus track 'Dance Boy Dance', still played a lot by DJs today. An essential re-issue for your collection.

If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Shipwrec have delved into the underbelly of electronics for their latest discovery. Fake Youth Cult is the brand new project of Richard van Kruysdijk, an artist who has been integral to the Dutch music scene. Following releases on Delsin, as well as founding his own Music for Speakers label, this latest undertaking explores the darker hues of Kruysdijk's audio creations. Across six tracks, a realm of shadows and steel is constructed. From the murky tones of "Visitor" to the industrial and blackened "Scorched", a towering sound of punishing percussion looms over the listener. Techno is central message. Despite this, the piercing coldness of electro rises in the incising and stark "Messing." The influence of punk comes to the fore in racing rhythms and lean strings that make up "Smear." BPMs drop in the slow burning EBM stained "Management." The machines take control for the finale. A relentless kick is the motor that drives this seven minute juggernaut to the close. Francesco Puccioni "born genius" in Florence, Mike Francis "becomes legend" in Rome. Deeply inspired in his adolescence by the emerging movements of North American soul, country and West Coast music and by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and James Taylor, Francesco began to compose refined songs with radiant energy every day. From the first acoustic gestures performed with the guitar, always keeping compositional creativity and improvisation under his arm, he enters the unexplored waters of Italian disco music. This slow and inexorable transformation allowed him to create in 1981 with the Metropole group (with Al Festa and Claudio Giusti, all still in their twenties) the international disco hit "Miss Manhattan", a true piece of proto-Italo-Disco! A year later the young Florentine singer-songwriter wrote two evocative soul-disco songs produced by Paul & Peter Micioni, published by Best Record and performed by a certain Mike Francis (!). This is the birth of the stage name which will forever accompany the musician who became a fundamental reference of the experimental Italo-Disco "scene", then soon recognized worldwide. This coveted 12" vinyl reissue comes out with the same Best Record commercial cover as 40 years ago and with the same 'red sticker'. And finally we have the juicy reissue of "Nightime Lady" and the more appetizing and danceable "Love Has Found You", both perfectly remastered by Dom Scuteri, excellent in obtaining an impeccable sound recording, even eliminating some imperceptible defects of the original master tape. Arguably one of the most memorable house music moments, born out of the black Lgbt scene in Chicago at the legendary Warehouse and known as one of Frankie Knuckles earliest productions; ‘Your Love’ is a stone cold classic. A record that is up there with the greats, instantly recognisable and a song that only get better with time. Written by Jamie Principle and originally released in 1986, ‘Your Love’ has become a seminal recording over the past 34 years. Originally an underground club anthem, famously borrowed on the crossover hit ‘You’ve Got The Love’ (The Source feat. Candi Staton), and most recently re-produced by as part of the Director’s Cut project which aimed to update a number of classic cuts for the modern dancefloor, this is a record that endures the test of time. Working alongside The Frankie Knuckles Foundation and Eric Kupper, SoSure Music now releases two new remixes for 2020 from Darrius Syrossian and Alan Dixon. First up, House music aficionado and legendary Sankey’s resident Darius Syrossian offers his unique blend of beats to the remix package. With releases on the likes of Get Physical, Viva Music and Hot Creations, Darius’ production is heavily influenced by some of the greats – think of the finest spinners from Detroit, New York and Chicago – and is well placed to approach this huge task. Then there's "The Tetrah" - a departure from the rest of the EP. It's a deeper and more intricate piece featuring the soulful interplay of saxophone and trumpet throughout. Through meticulously crafted tracks, it guides listeners on a shared and cherished voyage, forging connections through the universal languages of music, culture, and food.” Kashkaval - Is a cheese originating from the Balkans. When producing this electro track, it all came together quite swiftly, to be honest. I only needed one final element to complete it. Coincidentally, my dad was discussing this cheese at the time, so I recorded him talking about it on my phone and seamlessly integrated it into the track. I applied various effects and kept it subtle in the mix, making it almost unrecognizable in Albanian. The chords fell into place after that. Constant Sorrow - This song took shape during the pandemic. I had nearly completed the concept, and for some time before that, I had been in conversation with producer and vocalist Keith Caden. I believed his vocal talents would be a perfect fit for this track. I shared the track and its title with him, and he subsequently wrote the vocals, even contributing harmonica and a few other embellishments. I'm particularly fond of this electro-style track, and Keith's vocals truly bring a unique and special dimension to it. From The Ashes - Electro played a significant role in this album. When I mention electro, it's not the typical style of tracks but rather a more unique approach. The vocals on this album truly infuse profound meaning into the songs, and I have a deep appreciation for the way the chords resonate and create a dynamic bounce in the tracks. Crown Royal - There's an amusing backstory to the essence of this track. "Crown Royal" harkens back to a liquor we used to enjoy back in the day. We'd have our Crown Royal and pair it with those Black & Mild cigars – quite the combo! This track was born from the memories of those late-night drives back home from the club.

Hilit Kolet has been an integral part of London’s house scene ever since she started slinging vinyl at Soho’s legendary Black Market Records. Her distinctive, energetic DJ style then established her behind the decks everywhere, from high fashion shows to some of the most celebrated underground clubs in London. 2023 saw Hilit going global with shows from Ibiza to Shanghai via Printworks, Warehouse Project and Ministry of Sound.

Her summer single on the Faith imprint ‘pov Siren’ has been embraced by DJs as diverse as Robert Hood and Paul Woolford, and her edit of Laurent Garnier’s ‘Crispy Bacon’ was rinsed by many from Carl Cox to Patrick Topping, before seeing an official release by Garnier himself. ‘Hot Mess’ sets Hilit Kolet up as a serious name to watch out for in 2024.

Into the best Balearic tradition boldly steps Milan’s Rollover crew. As well as a regular party in Milan, the Rollover DJs (Tiberio Carcano & Rocco Fusco) have been making edits and releasing tunes over the past several years, but with this release there has been a step change in ambition. The latest collection of songs has been produced in a studio with actual musicians and songwriters, but with the ear of an experienced DJ. The best of both worlds. It was recorded almost exactly one year ago in December 2022, with the cream of Italian players, including bass player and Jovanotti collaborator, Saturnino, sticksman Sergio Carnevale, vocalist David Blank and guitar and synth boffin Lorenzo Morresi, who’s helped the guys with production. It follows in the tradition of a new generation of Italian musicians, like Nu Genea, Mystic Jungle Tribe and also DJs like Volcov. The lead single, ‘What Do You Live For’ was what Rocco & Tiberio describes as, “a funky track inspired by the early 1980s” and grooves so hard, with Blank’s message hitting right in the solar plexus. This will be followed by a pair of bangers, ‘Change My Mind’, a mid tempo disco chugger that is a tribute to LTJ Experience, the Bologna DJ Luca Trevisi, while ‘Never Found The Way’ heads towards Arthur Russel, before pealing off directly to the dancefloor. There’s also a Bawrut remix that adds some urgency and darkness to proceedings. The package is completed by lovely artwork by Riccardo Corda, whose work has adorned the Nu Genea releases. Is it Balearic? We think it is.

Like a complex optical illusion perceived as a banner over the sea horizon, where sight is significantly distorted and changes rapidly, unlike any other ordinary mirage, a true Fata Morgana comprises several inverted and steepled illusions, stacked on one another, showing alternating compressed and stretched sonic lands.

The term named after the Mistress of the Fairies of the Salt Sea, King Arthur's half-sister Morgan le Fay, encapsulates the hallucinatory prowess of the seduction myth, a symbol of incantation and sensorial catharsis among the pleasure and the pain meanders.

Rhythm On The Loose “Break Of Dawn” is quite simply one of House Music’s all time classics.

Producer Geoff Hibbert was inspired by seeing dawn break on an Italian coast line to draw inspiration from Moby’s anthemic “Go” and disco gem “Let No Man Put Asunder” by First Choice to create his loving homage to the UK Rave scene.

Network set up a label “The One After D” to release a limited edition press of the instant classic to create demand.

One of the first copies was picked up by Kevin Saunderson and his relentless playing of the track helped fuel interest in the USA.

The first release on Network in 1991 established the track as iconic. That original mix is here and still sounds as fresh as ever. Perfect in fact.

The 12” also contains remastered versions of the 1995 remixes by Rhythm On The Loose, Strike and Stonebridge.

Taken from Network’s extensive back catalogue and a re-issue of a timely classic that is always in-demand.

"Especially the instrumentals on School Daze – you can imagine the places they're in, the planets they're on, and I think that's a good approach to mixing any type of music."

The result is the group's latest high-water mark. Over its almost 22-minute runtime, Hey Colossus make the song their own by utilising an expansive arsenal of dub-like tactics. On their latest excursion, Last Year At Maienbad proudly invites you into the gloriously breezy, beautifully put-together world of Retromigration, who’s melodic abilities have put him firmly within everyone’s passenger seat as they shoot down a sun-kissed highway…

There are a number of artists within the present day whose names remain constantly on the tongues of music lovers, and Retromigration’s name has been there so consistently of late for a number of reasons. His music represents the nucleus of what dance music means to so many, a form of music that channels the soul, chimes deep within the mind, and makes the listener escape into the depths of their emotional palette. His songs have an ever present Jazz presence to them, but his sound has numerous components to it, with rhythmic feel being right at the heart of proceedings. Retromigration always finds a way to feel himself out within his records, covering an enormity of ground and allowing each track to interact with the next. This makes his tracks at ease with the listener, forging a vital connection that works with mood and the concept of listening intently – and feeling very content about it. The instrumental approach he makes is certainly something, and channels into the notion that his music can come alive in any context, swaying to the rhythm of life rather than the confines of space. With excellent releases on labels such as Wolf, Handy and previously on Last Year at Marienbad to name but a few, Retromigration has traversed the plains of human expressionism and conjured up some pure magic within his music, not least with this latest effort of his…..

2022 was a busy year for the producer, overseeing four releases including ‘Kush Calls’, which featured some truly exquisite and memorable cuts that lingered long in the memory. ‘Dead Tech’ sees Retromigration shift over into more clubby territory, but many of the motifs we all know and love him for make some notable appearances as we shift from track to track. Playful, emotively porous and ever-searching are perhaps some key features of the first two tracks, ‘bo’ and ‘Lapras’, which represent Retromigration doing a house in such a refined and considered manner. Powerful swaying rhythm sections interweave themselves with melodic excellence, including an inspired flute line that rides high within the EP’s opener. The intro then flows into a groove like no other, with the flute featuring prominently once again, with particular emphasis placed upon the breakdown, which dips the listener in such a glorious mood. The vocals that move in and around the groove are inspired, providing an additional level of narrative in which to dive deep within.

The title track anchors the album in the mid-section, and it takes the mood down to a softly speaking space. Effortless in its approach, the tune takes all the time it needs to saunter along, with a groove to ride upon and a collection of melodic layers that are so easy on the ear and the heart too. ‘Half Pure’ arrives next, and this one kicks the tempo up a few notches to the energies that persisted in the opening cuts. The vocals make more of a visible presence here, with the repeating vocal working very well indeed with the solid chordal arrangement. The melodies are once again handled with care and attention, their floating feel merging superbly with the rhythm as the listener is allowed to rise higher and higher. To wrap up proceedings, we have Da Poet on remix duties of ‘Half Pure’, and this one complements what has come before wonderfully. The additional glassy chords do wonders to the soul, with the bass line adding power and purpose to the groove. It’s a fitting end to a record that carries the listener along, showcasing all it has to offer from up high but also on the ground, with feelings reverberating from top to bottom – always shifting, searching and moving, no matter what.

Artists who remain on people’s lips are worth talking about for a reason, and with this latest effort, Retromigration continues his presence at the forefront of dance music in general. A record that is sophisticated technically, with the production second to none, but it’s the centre of the tunes that make it magical. The soul is laid bare in its various guises, from the up-tempo right through to the slow and steady, there is so much here to feel with and grow alongside, and for that we can all be pleased for this to pass through our mind. So go on, take a gander, breathe, and immerse yourself……

twelve.to.zero is back with its second release, signed by Crihan. "While You Sleep EP" finds Alin shaping three slow-burning and hypnotic pieces of minimal dance music brimming with detail deeply rooted in the early years of organic micro-house. A-side's 'The Visitor' (a1) opens the EP emersed in engrossing, cinematic textures and heavy doses of syncopated acoustic drum samples. Elements ebb and flow on top of a highly minimalistic 4/4 structure, creating a contemplative locomotive composition reminiscent of the [a-rpia-r] school. Flip-side's 'Lust' (b1) feels like a continuation of the previous track - driving, mysterious, mesmerizing - bubbling with vocal samples, orchestral textures, and a distinctly subtle micro-house swing. 'The Chase' (b2) closes the EP with a fresh rhythmic flavour: odd drum arrangements and melodic sequences take centre stage, flowing on top of rolling basslines of deeply enigmatic character. Introspective piano chords razor through its swingy rhythmic patterns, folding the sonic space with elegance, proving Alin's innate talent for avant-guard minimal music.
