"The latest release on Textasy’s Berlin-based imprint further mines the interface between electro and jungle. DJ DR-660’s EP is, as the name suggests, dedicated to carnal pleasures, whether it’s cleverly flipping a familiar spoken word sample into speedy bass-heavy beats and slow jam smoothness on ‘Talk 2 Me (Consent)’ or combining Miami bass style lewdness and rolling breaks on ‘Fuk Me From The Back (Da Bomb Edit)’ The latter is especially good, fluidly alternating between rhythms and hip hop samples in a way that will excite dancefloors. Elsewhere, 'Rhodes Rec’ has the kind of smokey keys you could expect in an ambient d&b number, but riding speedy juke/ghettotech drums and another rude vocal. Emotional Response is delighted to present a special project, a collection of music from Bartosz Kruczynski, recorded for "Selected Media" and presented here as a time-piece of his continuing works. Initially known as one half of sample based project Ptaki (The Very Polish Cut Outs / Transatlantyk), Kruczynski first appeared for Emotional Response as The Phantom for the first series of SchleiBen in 2015. Featuring two works of deep 'fourth world' sounds, they highlighted a shift to more mellow, synthetic and hazy compositions. His break out came, however, when he explored this sound further on his eponymous album Baltic Beat, for the acclaimed Growing Bin Records. This has been augmented with the recent club based music as one half of the wonderful Earth Trax (Rhythm Section International / Phonica Records) project. Here though, Kruczynski returns to the ambient and ethereal - plus a touch of dub techno - to showcase his expansive collaborative work with Polish studio, TVP Culture. Given free artistic license, the 15 'short form' recordings included here were for programming, in the main, on modern Polish Art including the likes of Magdalena Abakanowicz, Miroslaw Balka and Tadeusz Kantor, as well as some international aspects for Enrico Prampolini, Ai Weiwei and Monica Bonvicini. Taken from over 70 episodes the material included recollects imagery, video and memory to present a series of short vignettes that together create one whole. Minimal and hazy ambience (V, VII, VIII, XI, XII) envisages classic melodies and chords and is accompanied by further 'fourth world' pieces (I, II, III, VII, X)) that present an oeuvre that is recognisably the music of Kruczynski, while remaining fresh and perfectly meditative. A counter can be found in the atmospheric dub works (IV, IX, XIV) that hint at echo chamber environs to get infinitely lost in. As an album then, "Selected Media" can be heard as a snapshot to Kruczynski's music journey, a meeting of art and music that is oft overlooked but very much essential.

Fast becoming one of the go-to producers for rootsier takes on up-tempo 160-170 bass music, his second four-track 12" on Rua ups the ambition and knocks it so far out of the park it's broken windows in the next parish across.
The General EP veers wildly between neurofunk-but-actually-funky takes on dusty 90's boom-bapàla DJ Shadow on "Shudder" and 'Turnt Up', cavernous soundsystem workouts on "Seek and Find", and febrile halftime (just) jungle (barely) masterpiece in the shape of "General". Goosebumps. This is soundsystem music par excellence; cerebral, heady, and rousing - suffice to say we reckon it's sicker than the plane to Lourdes.
We apologise profusely to those of you whose resolutions for 2019 involved losing weight, but this is one of our fattest releases yet so you'd better go get them bassbins rumbling instead.

The style and sound of DJ Overdose is so distinctive, you can spot it from miles away. The first track has a groovy title, with a car symbol and silly characters. Great music for driving your white convertible in the Detroit sunset, it's dark, repetitive, the usual genius with impressive drums. The title of Funky Mess is no lie, it's a funky song with a Japanese telecom sampler resembling the Detroit underground scene. The last track RZ-1-DMX is classic electro with some nice slow melodies, that you can nod to. Sematic4 is operating with more classic electro elements on Dream Creator with some spacey tunes, while North Star '78 is a rather hard-hitting club music with a nice groove, interesting drums and some super melodies. One Nite In Heaven recalls the atmosphere and soundscape of the golden days of the Hague electro scene - a way of showing respect to the era.

Deep Club rounds out five years with its fifth addition to the label arm, a split 12-inch EP of raw, unbridled techno. Trespass / Cop Watch reaches outside of Deep Club’s inner circle, enlisting the talents of Grey People, one of the crew’s favorite American techno producers. After posting key releases for Proper Trax, CGI, and Public System Recordings, Grey People released 12-inches for Valcrond Video and Nerang Recordings, as well as a new album with fledgling French label 99cts Rcrds, all while commanding Nashville’s techno underground and helping run the budding TRAM Planet label and party crew. Adding to the fun, Occidental crawls back out of the shadows to contribute two brain-melting tracks to this split twelve.
Occidental starts it off with two not-so-similar versions of “Trespass”. “Trespass (Juss Feel It)” delivers 140 BPM of filthy frequencies straight to the brain stem in just over four minutes. You juss gotta feel it. Next, “Trespass Dat A$$” slows the pace down and turns up the spanking. This one is all about the thick, pulsing kickdrum, lush pads, and deep moans. The flip side belongs to Grey People. “Intercepting Encrypted Messages” channels a repetitive, bloopy synth rhythm and powerful drums before the hi-hats and claps smack the dancefloor. “Cop Watch” draws on Grey People’s Chicago roots for a dynamic and frenetic dance.

Music From Memory are back with their first 12” of 2019 in the form of a five track EP from prolific German drummer Curt Cress.
Since the early 1970s Cress has worked with a number of high profile German bands such as Passport, Atlantis and Snowball as well as on cult Disco records with studio groups such as Tender Aggression and Chime. Working tirelessly as a session musician for countless German and International Jazz, Rock and Pop acts, Cress has also worked extensively as a Producer, most notably for Nina Hagen. Cress would also record a number of records as a solo artist, with his unique sensibility as a drummer given centre stage.
MFM 038 features three deep percussive workouts from his 1983 solo album »Avanti«, a record which has been a long time favourite the label. With the tracks »Moonwalk«, »Power Vein« and »Sundance« now finally available on a loud 12“ pressing. The EP also features two direct detours into House music by Curt with alternate versions of the forward thinking drum track »Dschung Tek«. Released in 1991 under Curt’s »C.C« moniker, »Dschung Tek« has been another big favourite of the last few years at the label after a tip by way of their pal Tornado Wallace.

Newcastle via London label Jaunt Records revisits its 10 year anniversary EP from 2017 with a series of great remixes by Inland, Jonas Kopp, Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff and Stojche. This is the first of two EPs planned, and it offers up a timeless mix of heady techno and slick electro. Berlin based Brit Inland tackles Jaunt resident Blackhall & Bookless's 'Spirit' and serves up a heavyweight wedge of warehouse techno. On the same side, Jonas Kopp flips 'Itria' into a sci-fi tinged bit of dub techno and long time studio partners Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff from Indigo Aera offer widescreen synth work and blissed out pads all tethered to rolling and rubbery drums. Stojche's take on Gian's track is a fantastically crisp and futurist piece of electro that will get anyone on their toes. This is a classy EP that showcases the sort of sounds you will hear on any Jaunt dance floor.

Anurak Boonliang is a young producer from Bangkok. As a child, he was trained as a musician for the traditional Thai shadow theatre. Nang Yai, as it is called in Thai, is an acting genre counted among the shadow plays with large picture panels made of parchment, which is cultivated in the center of Thailand around the capital Bangkok. The immovable figure plates are each carried by one actor and danced to the music of Pi Phat. Boonliang's journey from Pi Phat, the classical music ensemble of Thai music, mainly composed of percussion instruments, to working with drum computers and synthesizers was a short one.

Martina Lussi’s second album fuses together disparate sound sources with a disorienting
