Formed in Berlin at the turn of the millennium, Kulku have evolved as a highly unique and free-formed collective of musicians that make trance-inducing, jazz-entwined, percussive and soulful (mostly) acoustic music that takes cues from the rhythmic propulsion of Jaki Leibezeit’s Can, the street-folk of Moondog, the minimalism of Steve Reich, and the droning rock n’ roll of the Velvet Underground, forming a sound that they themselves have coined ‘No-Age Krautrock’.

Following on from last year’s sold out debut LP ‘Fahren’, ‘Reset To Be’ offers 5 new songs across 2 sides of vinyl. This is a record that perfectly showcases the unique identity the band have been developing over the past 20 years, a sound crafted through experimentation and innovation with primarily acoustic instruments; droning harmoniums, repetitive and phasing xylophones, timpani, cello, scrap metal and woodwind reeds, all sitting alongside soulful saxophone and the voice of frontman Andreas Riska, singing in both German and English.

‘Reset To Be’ is a truly special offering that we’re proud to be able to share with you on Phase Group. The album will be available on April 30th 2024 on vinyl and digital, with distribution via Bordello A Parigi.

Following on from the special release of Robert Hood and Femi Kuti's live jazz set "Variations", Robert Hood delivers his latest Techno EP for M-Plant. This is the first new solo music from him since 2022's "Hectic / Amazon Dust" double-header.

Although Robert Hood should need little introduction, with his and his daughter, Lyric's Floorplan moniker riding high with a new album forthcoming on Classic, his Techno legacy should not be forgotten. Throughout the '90s, he helped pave the way for Techno to flourish - giving birth to minimal techno with his seminal album "Minimal Nation". Since then, he has been consistently forwarding electronic music culture with ground-breaking productions, sensational performances and his M-Plant label. His style is characterised by minimalist and experimental tones with an assertive groove.

His "Alpha Key EP" features four driving cuts of characteristically Hood music that prove when it comes to Techno, he's still a high-ranking master. The EP is out on vinyl and digitally 12 April.

Matteo Mussoni and Nicola Zucchi were raised on the disco romance of the 1970s and early 80s. Channelling their shared love of music machines and mirrorballs, the duo founded Sparkling Attitude. Their debut EP draws on the magic of italo disco, the synthesizer soundtracks of the silverscreen and the open stretches of the Italian coastline. “Dov’eri Sabato Sera” recounts the tale of unrequited love; youth, possibility and dashed hopes play out to a crisp rhythm and wistful melodies. Those heart-strained notes then take the limelight for the instrumental version, analogue strings soaring to impassioned heights. The flames keep burning on the flip with “Melodico Romantico”. Disco infused, bold and brazen beats are made-up in dark rouges and effervescent greens as breathy vocals whisper. Mussoni and Zucchi dive deep into their machines for the curtain close. Together they are ‘Body Copy’, a collaborative project between two artists which blossomed in Leeds. Gavin Herlihy (Vrsion), a name that won’t be new to those who were around the early 2000s when he was releasing his music with the most interesting labels of the time and lately on Craig Richard’s The Nothing Special label.

Chris Nicholls (Nikol), resident of the Leeds-Barcelona project MASS has taken steps into his production career with promising results on their first record. For us, this EP has a very special flavour, expressing darker tones compared to the latest EPs on the label.

Łukasz Seliga needs little introduction to anyone even roughly following Poland’s dance and electronic underground, as his contributions – as a live performer, producer, remixer or DJ – embellished the better part of its story. Between his solo endeavours under the slg moniker, and projects such as Casiopepe or Seltron 400, he has long traversed genres and sounds, aptly and joyfully, always staying true to his distinct musical vision rather than being prompted by periodic shifts of fancy.

On Sideways, his newest EP outing for Trance-Atlantyk, Łukasz appears under his own name – Seliga – for the first time, thus restating his identity and underlining the honesty of his craft. In a time when dance music tends to be driven increasingly by nostalgia, Seliga takes but a sip, ultimately eschewing it. As a result, the music we hear is more of a direct expression of his own abiding purpose – a lived, rather than re-lived experience, an auditory utopia, sung in a language the artist is deeply anchored in, but whose expressive qualities he seeks to enhance, and not simply exploit.

Across the EP’s four tracks we are treated to impeccable, entrancing house riddims – masterfully executed, with subtle, yet meaningful nods to dub and ambient, and echoing inspirations such as The Orb, Andrew Weatherall’s remix work and the early Warp catalogue. Driving and soothing, kinetic and cordial, refreshing and utterly danceable, these four tunes succeed in conveying a unique sense of the melanphoric – and this is precisely what makes for their delicious seligability.

Here at Bordello, the hot season has already arrived. Championing this warmth is Italy’s very own Hey Cabrera! The Turin based dynamo melds elements of electro disco, italo and house to create a uniquely aromatic blend of dancefloor joy. Clean drum patterns, claps and hi-hats are at the foundation of “Italo Void”. From these percussion points, a bold and ensnaring melody takes flight; glimmering synthlines shining from beginning to end. Accentuating that irrepressible tune, piano keys give extra ballast with a touch of late evening romance as we wait for the sun to come up. The flip transports us to Scandinavia for some unrequited love. Although “Forelskelse” may mean unexplored passions, this track is brimming with emotions. Burning with a smouldering energy, ingredients from disco to house combine to produce a wonderfully uplifting work. David Bay, of Zissou Records fame, closes with his interpretation of “Forelskelse”. A measured introduction gives way to those addictive notes of the original, Bay stripping back the samples to allow the instruments to sing. A soundtrack to see us into a magical summer.

Episode six of the Afterhours. saga is here. Veteran sound crafter Jay Tripwire joins forces with Real Gang's Danny Miller for a three-cut EP delving deep into highly textured, exquisitely detailed minimal arrangements.

The appropriately named "Greasy Grooves" juxtaposes three groove-centred compositions of different tonal energy yet similarly high levels of sophistication. A-Side's 'Cut001' carries a definitive after-hours vibe: evolving atmospheres, stomping rhythmic arrangements, airy melodic pads and growling textures — basically all the right ingredients for the post-sunrise periods of resilient raving. B-Side's 'Cut002' is the most cinematic, even enigmatic, offering here. But regardless of its eerie character, its focus is still very much on drum arrangement and incessant locomotive swing. 'Cut003' closes the EP with prime-time vibes, cow-belling through a slightly acidic, powerfully dubby techno groove.

Escaping the massive shadow of Norway’s hip-hop scene, ‘Moments of Inertia’ captures a sound that evokes nothing but itself, as though Kristenen were recording sub-rosa dimensional machinery at oblique angles and arranging the best parts with the kind of
narrative grandeur most techno artists would never dare interrogate. It should also be noted that the track “Paradox & Puzzle" shares a name with Tiga’s moderately successful escape room gastropub.

Adana Twins return to Watergate Records with a magnificent three-tracker that begs for a summer
dancefloor (but the tracks are that good, they’ll be played for a while to come).
Since their label debut in 2017 with ‘Flower of Cane’, Adana Twins have become firm favourites of the
Oberbaumbrücke crew. From handling mix duties on ‘Watergate 25’ to holding down regular gigs at the
club prior to 2020, the Hamburg duo always deliver.
‘The Curve’ is their first release on WG since 2019’s cracking remixes of Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of
Consciousness’. The title track is a big bouncy electro cut packed with plenty of groove. A super fun
production sure to bring a smile to your face. ‘Cyrus’ belongs in a motion picture and is epic in
composition. It traverses cyborg breaks before moving into a retro key-laden riff, all the while driven by a
powerful ‘Silence / Violence’ vocal. This was made for a big festival moment. ‘Alone’ is the emotional final.
At first propelled by an ‘80s synth and airy pads before a shimmering lead takes control and pushes the
track into celestial terrain.

Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’ gets a respectful touch-up 25 years on courtesy of
the Adana Twins.
The German duo come strong with a pair of remixes, fit for two very different dancefloor scenarios. The
first a smart, stripped back breakbeat version that switches from a sparse percussive soundscape to the
famous acid warbles, before introducing undulating retro trance synths to the composition for a headmelting finish. Remix Two is a driving, four-to-the-floor, rave-focused affair that builds up the 303s with
exhilarating intensity, only letting up in the final moments of the track.
The fresh interpretation follows on from Adana Twins’ super re-work of Patrice Baumel’s ‘Roar’ that

Scottish Techno wizard Astro joins Piff Records on their landmark tenth release, with 5 cosmic and groovy belters.

Having recently found success with his own Neptune Discs imprint and regularly performing up and down the country, Astro has firmly established himself as one to watch in the techno sphere. Opening with the title track, Astro combines a relentless bassline with dubbed-out chords and spacey leads. Echoing space-age soundscapes and futuristic sounds of 70s kosmische musik and 90s techno, Astro makes good on the aesthetic promised by his artist name.

Astro brings down the tempo for the hypnotic Cloned Substance. A mesmerising hat pattern combines with delay-drenched leads and a bouncy bassline to create a track intent on capturing the listener in a state of trance.

Thunderstorm adheres to the tried-and-tested Astro combination of a thick bassline, spacey stabs, and continuously evolving drums. As to be expected, the results are spectacular. Irresistible grooves and rich soundscapes are the order of the day as Astro delivers once again.

A haunting and proggy FM-lead acts as the foundation for Pluto, underpinned by a sub-heavy kick and tranquil chords. The meditative ebb and flow of various elements masterfully expresses the solitude of the track’s namesake.

Planetary Blitz closes the EP as a digital bonus track. Expanding on the spaced-out motifs of the previous track (as reflected in the track title), Astro substitutes chord stabs and warm basslines for a driving blend of punchy kicks and a subtle glittery guitar.
