Etapp Kyle returns to Ostgut Ton with Nolove, a project encompassing a four-track EP, short film and forthcoming web exhibition focusing on Western Ukraine. Specifically, the music and artwork home in on the cities of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Chernivtsi in Bukovina, where Etapp Kyle grew up and developed his interest in electronic music. Although now part of Ukraine, Bukovina had previously been part of Moldova, the Habsburg Empire, the Russian Empire, Romania and the Soviet Union. Its turbulent history and position on the border of Romania and Moldova have resulted in an extremely varied tapestry of cultural influence, as featured in the video for title track “Nolove”. There, youth, fashion, music culture sit side-by-side next to religion, violence and war – and larger political struggles. The EP gives shape to the musical developments Etapp Kyle has made in both the studio and DJ booth since the release of 2017's Alpha, his latest 12" for Ostgut Ton. In contrast, Nolove's four tracks are minimalistic, detailed electronic ventures inspired by personal reflections on Chernivtsi and Ukrainian cultural identity. Forward-facing in rhythm and melody, the EP offers meticulously-produced leftfield dancefloor impressions of the region’s past, present and future.

Black Daylite complete 2019 with the „Sky, Horse and Catch EP“ by label boss Noema himself. On his quest to „Bring the Jams“, the world traveling DJ delivers two stunning tunes, streaked with percussions that he recorded on a trip to Sao Paulo. Last but not least, Noema's EP comes along with a mind-bending remix by our favorite Romanians Khidja.

The title track „Sky, Horse and Catch“ translates a 90's Detroit House Groove to the present day and adds Cuica, Berimbau and several other Brazilian drums on top. Riding the complex groove, you encouter eccentric synths, mysterious soundscapes and of course the horse on this 11 minute long hack. Minhocão“ trades the horse for a racing car and takes you on a cruise on the same-named elevated highway that leads through the city of Sao Paulo. Surrounded by driving beats, guitar single-notes, massive synthbass howls and a gritty Moog theme, this jam is a hell of a joyride!

Khidja strips down the original the title track to its core and creates a solely percussive version in a half-time groove. By adding a virtuos Qanon/Saz-like sound the tune develops an arabesque flavour with a dubby bass as the cherry on the top.

“Heroes Of The East“, a story about love, pride and rivalry is re-written by Belgian producer Placid One who’s style perfectly fits to the Shaw Cuts trademark sound. The story begins with an arranged marriage between Chinese Kung Fu student Ho Tao and Japanese Yumiko Koda who is highly-trained in Karate. They live together happily until one day, they decide to practice together. „Morse“, its blazing pads, energetic percussion and powerful rhythm weaves and chimes in sync with their intense and raw training duel. Relentless arguing about which martial style and philosophy is better leads Koda to become offended, so she returns to Japan. “Foothills“ is a bright, sonic forcefield and its pulsating drums set the tone for a voyage of mixed emotions and self-doubt. Marital and cultural misunderstandings lead Koda’s former school in Japan to send seven of their strongest students to fight Ho Tao and prove which country has superior fighting styles. Crane and tiger techniques vs. the seemingly invincible versatile villain and his squad. The story begins when Pai Mei and his entourage raid the shaolin temple where the rebels have found refuge. Only a few rebels and students escape the attack, among them, Hung Hsi-Kuan. „Haslam“ and its blasting drum patterns paired with bright sounding synth fragments help Hung Hsi-Kuan and his copartners to safety.

Kenton Slash Demon return to Tartelet Records with Zstring + remixes by Urulu and Kasper Marott + 12’ comes in vintage Tartelet sleeves circa 2009-2010. Limited Edition 400 copies. It’s been ten years since Kenton Slash Demon landed on Tartelet with their debut EP Khattabi followed by the much-celebrated The Schwarzschild Trilogy singles - Sun, Matter and Daemon all released 2009–2011.Ten years have passed since our first release on Tartelet and with this record it feels like we’ve gone full circle. It’s a beautiful thing.”
Zstring marks their return to Tartelet – but it’s also a precursor for things to come within the next year. With talks of a full-length album, the KSD project is now being given the attention it deserves.
Kenton Slash Demon have always had an affinity for uplifting melancholic tunes – and Zstring cements their ability to create just that. The track oozes with dance-floor euphoria, offering up a distorted arpeggio bassline, lush pads and layered melodies, all built around a tight and ever- changing groove. There are clear references to Italo disco, early techno and trance, but it’s hard to pin down the exact style – if that even matters.
On remix duties, man of the moment and label collaborator, Urulu, delivers a fresh take in his signature early 90s style, while local hero and close friend Kasper Marott of Monkeytown fame comes through with an obscure melodic techno workout of the finest sorts.
To further advance the concept of “full circle,” the 12’ comes in vintage Tartelet sleeves circa 2009-2010, salvaged from three different releases – which have been in storage since being produced.
Zstring will be available April 12 th 2019 on vinyl and April 26th on all digital platforms.
