The illusive Nelson of the East reappears with his forthcoming EP Phase Alternating Lines – a first class two-tracker.
The Swiss-born, Milanese artist released his first EP Night Frames just last year, making a strong entrance on Tartelet Records. This time around, N.O.T.E explores 80s electro boogie with ‘Phase Alternating Lines’ on the A side, and delivers his very own take on obscure tribal house with “Burning Palm” on the B side.
N.O.T.E is young, thirsty, and dead serious about his music. His admirable work ethic shows off not only in his own releases but also in his collaborations with other artists. In the past year alone, he has produced for Wayne Snow and several others that are keeping their work under wraps – while simultaneously creating music as N.O.T.E and under his Verner moniker. All the hard work seems to be paying off on this new 12’, where he comes through with two outstanding dance-floor bombshells.
If you’re into the 80s, Beverly Hills Cop, or just sad that you missed out on Studio 54, you’re going to love EP opener, “Phase Alternating Lines”. It’s got it all: hot drum programming, an electric boogie bassline and a cheeky melody that sticks. “Burning Palm” takes us into obscure tribal-meets-afro-house territory, utilizing percussion, synth marimba and hypnotic melodies – all held together in a tight, driving groove. This track is exotic at its root and perfect for any late night outdoor activity. Both tracks come as extended edits for the vinyl release.
This is a limited-edition release of 400 copies, written and produced by N.O.T.E, arranged by N.O.T.E in close collaboration with Tartelet Records’ label head Dirk 81 and mixed at Panalama Studios in Copenhagen on the Neve 5088 Shelford console for good measure.

Following on from their EP ‘In Need Of Tess‘ Jilk are excited to release their album ‘Joy In The End‘ with Project Mooncircle. Their most fully realised and beautiful set of compositions yet. Through an apocalyptic narrative, the album explores themes of hope found in desolation and the eventual and inevitable cyclical return of loss and joy. An album for the current worrying times as well as the personal joys that can combat those worries.

This is Jilk’s most collaborative effort yet as a collective. The influences and styles are eclectic; strings, guitars, synths, brass, voice, percussion, noise, concrète and glitch meet to create an overwhelmingly alluring set of compositions. Originally established as a charity supporting club night with a focus on mental health, London-based outfit Mind Of Ours proudly present this debut release with their strongly rooted club and rave foundations instilled into the grooves of the vinyl.

We Go From Here EP comes from the exciting rising producer and Mind Of Ours co-founder Luke Sandler, who has previously released on labels Eagervision Records & Of Onyx. He produced this new project entirely whilst simultaneously working on the NHS frontline during this Covid-19 pandemic.

Through the space and time of five incredible tracks, Luke Sandler skilfully presents us with a cross section of UK club culture, built with a rich and visceral rave aesthetic and providing both warm nostalgia and stark originality as it transports us to a dark & misty yet highly euphoric nightclub dancefloor.

We open with Tommy Hilfiger, a constantly shuffling, bumpy & bleepy lo-fi house x breaks hybrid which reflects both retro and contemporary club fundamentals. Next up Don’t Think slowly builds and crescendos with it’s irresistibly hard-hitting breakbeat percussion before exploding into a gorgeously exhilarating universe of goose- bump inducing musical delight.

Side A then finishes with title track We Go From Here which is informed by its deep rhythmics and sweeping movement resulting in a piece of music which sends you on a journey of epic proportions.

Flip the record and we find Synapse, a track more in line with House & Techno tradition, it carries an undeniable groove and effortlessly blends grittiness with euphoria, emphasised with hypnotising digital arpeggios. Things are then rounded off with Cara, a beautifully haunting experimental affair steeped in emotive wonder, underpinned by its relentless and constantly building vocal loops and melodic keys.

Lazarus is back on Shaw Cuts with "The Rescue", a swashbuckling tale of sheer heroism, revolutionary sentiment and resistance in the face of oppression.

Following the fall of the Sung Dynasty, minister Wen, who pens a patriotic song to inspire the nation, is imprisoned by the conquering Mongols. Sung patriots plot to free the lord from the Celestial Prison by having themselves arrested and a spy release them once inside. But the prison general sets a deadly trap. "Harbinger", its heavy drums, mystic pads and untamed spirit perfectly describes the menacing scene inside the prison.

With the help of free-spirited hero Le Heru, patriot Bai Yaerh escapes the carnage. With more fighters in tow, he returns to the prison with a new plan to tunnel underground. Yet this too is a cunning trap that forces Le Heru to cover up the heroes' escape. The intense buildup of "Light The Torch" with its echoing chords and noisy elements, invigorates and drives the pack forward.

After convincing a Mongol-raised guard captain to join them, the patriots make a last attempt to save lord Wen by posing as Mongols and slipping into the jail. They finally reach Wen who has starved himself to death. The shifting drums and emotional synths of "Sinus Node" sets the serene tone needed to compensate for the loss, signaling a promising new dawn.

The legion finds hope while battling out of the prison to preserve the moving song the minister composed before his demise. "Cyto" and its melancholic mood filled with revolving breaks, powerful arpeggios and shimmering drums, leads to a shocking and disturbing end that is hard to handle.

Sons of Traders 002 is a Compilation 8 Tracks Ep of loosely knit artists that surround the duo Sons of Traders (Mike Tansella Jr. and Tans). Leading the EP, the title track “Rotten to the Core” is a slow stomper with a forceful vocal sample and some various squelches. LA’s Kosmik picks up the tempo with “Murmurs” which features a hypnotic synth loop over a 4/4 beat. On “Chomping at the Bit” C.L.A.W.S. and Tyrell trade off between claps, hi hats and short delays underneath a sinister synth tone. The second release on TB Arthur's (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with Magda as Blotter Trax. The pair first encountered each other at the famous Motor City record store Record Time, when Detroit artist BMG introduced his then co-workers Magda and Derek Plaslaiko to Arthur, who was visiting the shop from Chicago. Sometime after that meeting, Magda and Arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4" tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1A is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. Full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2A then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. Last of all, 2B snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. This, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

The Accidental label pushes on in it’s 21st anniversary year with ‘Thanet House EP’, a no nonsense, no pretention house 12” from renowned sound artist and designer Yuri Suzuki. Born in Tokyo in 1980, Suzuki studied in Tokyo and London, exploring the relationship between music and technology. His design and sound work is widely lauded, with examples of his practice being found in, among others, Tate Britain, MoMA and Mudan. In 2016 he was recognized by Design Miami, receiving their Designer of the Future award and in 2018 became a partner at the world’s largest independently owned design studio, Pentagram.
