A pairing whose renowned reputation has been built and shaped across an illustrious career, Polish duo Grzegorz Demiañczuk and Wojciech Tarañczuk, aka Catz’ n Dogz, have been serving up their own diverse and varied take on house for more than fifteen years. Founders of their own Pets Recordings imprint, in that time they have released on esteemed labels, from Diynamic to Defected, Glitterbox to Watergate and more, while playing at almost every major club and festival across the globe. Their fresh in-between sounds and knack for cooking up curious and impactful sounds have made them mainstays of the scene, and that run of stellar releases continues here with a debut appearance on Crosstown Rebels as they link with ZenSoFly for ‘Can’t Stand’ - with longstanding German favourite Robag Wruhme on remix duties.

Opener ‘Can’t Stand’ sees the pair reunite with vocalist ZenSoFly, a talent they’ve worked with on notable hits like ‘Wave.’ Her vocals bring soul and attitude over a tight, rubbery and sleazy house beat, underpinned with a heavy bassline - providing the sort of chunky cut to lock in a dancefloor and make it march in unison. Robag Wruhme has been a Pampa label mainstay and famously curveball producer for many years with his scintillating blend of minimalism, melody and unusual sound sources. That is the case again with this remix, a dark workout that hurries along on snappy drums, detuned vocals and scuzzed up, droning synths to ensure maximum impact.

The EP is closed out with ‘Wake Up’, a widescreen and atmospheric cut packed with detail. The bassline is taught, freaky vocals echo within the mix, and synths spray about to dramatic effect, delivering another full flavour house cut with a dark soul and futuristic designs.

The five-track ‘Touch The Vibe’ EP is the latest gem in the evergreen treasure trove of music from Australia’s CC:DISCO!. In the year 2000 the internet had not yet become the new messiah. I would often cross the Channel by ferry on my way to London where I would spend the weekend going out and hunting for records, especially those that were impossible to find in Belgium. As soon as I set foot in a record shop, then under the influence of labels like Rephlex, Warp and Planet Mu, I would rush like a gold digger, head down in the racks that mentioned these labels, to try and find the piece I was missing or the latest release not yet distributed in Belgium. The artists that obviously haunted me the most at the time were Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. During one of my visits to the record shop "Sister Ray", I was, as was often the case, deep in the Squarepusher rack. And there, I find a record that I do not yet know, an LP entitled Ceephax Acid Quakers 1000, on the fantastic label "Lo Recording" ! Without hesitation and without further investigation I rush to buy it, convinced that I am holding the new Holy Grail from Squarepusher. Back in Brussels, I listen to this mysterious LP straight away and I discover a completely different album from what I was expecting. More audacious than what Squarepusher had produced in the past and which was more in line with the sound I was looking for at the time. I had to look hard at the record sleeve to understand this new approach. "Produced by Andy Jenkinson... but no, it's Tom Jenkinson....there must be a mistake?" Knowing the record shops of Brussels well, here I was on my way with the record under my arm to get more info. A record shop owner in the city centre tells me that this "Andy" is Tom's little brother, and that if I'm interested, he just brought in another record by this artist who calls himself "Ceephax"... Of course I'm interested! Icing on the cake, it is on a Belgian label, and moreover, provided with a cassette. I had to meet the guys who were behind this impressive "First Cask" label. I don't know by what magic I managed to meet Ga?l, one of the two founders, but what is sure is that since that day he has become more than a friend and he arranged for me to get in touch not with Squarepusher but with Andy. Two historical albums united in a superb gatefold !

Field Records takes a look into the vast catalogue of Celer, the prolific ambient project from Tokyo-based artist Will Long. Perfectly Beneath Us was originally released in 2012 as a Cd-r on Still*Sleep, and now it’s being presented as a vinyl release remastered by Stephan Mathieu.

Celer began in California as a collaborative project in 2005 between Long and Danielle Baquet, resulting in reams of self-released work up until Baquet passed away in 2009. Long opted to keep their project going, and Celer has continued to grow as an expansive exploration of purest ambient. Meanwhile Long’s solo work under his own name has been equally accomplished, with scores of releases on DJ Sprinkles’ Comatonse Recordings and respected Norwegian leftfield label Smalltown Supersound.

With such a sizable library of sounds to explore, the reissue of Perfectly Beneath Us serves as an ideal entry point into the Celer catalogue, presenting four pieces of sustained, glacial movement wreaking profound emotional impact from the subtlest methods. Long exercises the utmost patience from the shorter ‘Distressing Sensations’ and ‘Ultra-terrestrial Yearning’ through to the 10-minutes-plus stretches of ‘Slightly Apart, Almost Touching’ and ‘Absolute Receptivity Of All The Senses’.

It’s truly immersive, captivating drone music that rewards the attentive listener as much as it soothes the casual drifter. Originally limited to just 100 copies in 2012, it’s now beautifully framed on a carefully considered reissue which adds to Field’s own repertoire of evocative, subliminal electronics.

A week before leaving, I bought a dictionary and phrasebook.

Covered in rain, during the days and even the nights, Shanghai was lit in a glow, a mist turning to a constant grey fog. Buildings lined with neon and lcd screens flashed, and from around corners and behind buildings, the night was illuminated much the same as the day. Cars separated the classes, their horns voices punctuating the streets, as pedestrians in groups loosely scattered the streets, talking and walking on speakerphone.

Standing by the metro escalators, there in the square with the overhanging trees of a park, there is construction all around. The buildings seem to be climbing into the darkness at this very moment. Leaving behind and moving forward. We seem to know everything already, our illusion of experience. I imagine taking your hand, I imagined taking your hand, and the lights in the subway flicker as we go deeper. Transit bookmarks each experience, every daydream, and in the end they're interchangeable and indistinguishable between reality and imagination. Try to remember which is real.

To Hangzhou the maglev reached 303 km/h, the towering apartment buildings hunch under construction, passing by in blurs on the flat farmland landscape. I fell asleep, as you were dancing but to no music. The lilies on the lake nodded in the rain, dipping into the water. There was a Wal-Mart near the hotel where I won a pink bunny from a claw machine. I remember the beauty of the architecture of Hangzhou station, birds swirling around the pillars near the top, the echoes of the deep station interior, and the laughing at being lost. There at least we have each other, that memory, or that daydream.

Everything moves faster than we can control. Days are just flashes, moments are mixed up but burned on film, and all of the places and times are out of order. If it could only be us, only ours. If it was ours, if it was us. Sometimes everything goes faster than you can control and you can't stop, much less understand where you are. I bought a dictionary and phrasebook, but "xièxie" was the only word I ever got to use. - Will Long, January 2019

"In the mid-70s, Michael Rother of Neu! and Harmonia would sit by the German river Weser and watch the water flow by. The flow of the river contributed to the rhythm known as 'Motorik', a stately European pulse. Perhaps the Weser continued its journey across continents and oceans, enveloping primordial British DIY electronics and found its way snaking up through the Hudson, past Brooklyn, towards the Great Lakes and the Midwest, down the Cuyahoga in Ohio and somehow finding its way to Los Angeles. If one can imagine the motorik sound surging through the proto-punk American underground of the mid-70s via cassette tapes and ma bell trunk lines you can imagine what art-damaged outsiders armed with ring modulators, primal drum machines and pop sensibilities might have done with it. Among all the endless streams of 80’s inspired / influenced music there is seldom something which is interesting to me… that is also the reason I did not release much music on Enfant Terrible in that direction these past years… even though this background is always there in one way or another… but now there is Cérémonie from France… and their music really just does it for me… and yes this is 80’s inspired / influenced music but their songs show another level of songwriting, their sounds are chosen well and the overall mood is so wonderfully melancholic without too much drama or becoming cliché… They released a cassette EP on their own a few years ago… this release already showed the potential of the band but the songs were a bit more towards indie pop back then… The four tracks presented here on the “Orion” EP are truly contemporary new wave / synthpop pearls… rooted as they sound deeply in the 1980’s but sounding really fresh and contemporary at the same time… Imagine Deux sounding less (lovely) naïve or Automelodi sounding less glamorous… something like that and you get an idea of where to position Cérémonie in the music field… “Orion” features three songs by the band and one cover from French 1980’s new wave band Message… and the good news is that the band is currently working on new songs for an upcoming album… stay tuned and enjoy!

Ceri and Alex Arnout launch their new collaboration alias 'CnA', for the eagerly anticipated third release on Ceri's Find Your Own Records label.

The A Side 'Higher' is a happy house summer festival banger, inspired by getting High from the Music, and the B side 'Show me What you Got' is an eerie slice of breaksy techno, reminiscent of the early UR sound.
On the remix is Ukranian Se62, famed for his releases on labels like My Love is Underground and Slapfunk. He reworks the original into a dubby summer laid back deep house minimal cut.

The first two releases sold out on vinyl, had plays on BBCRadio1, BBC6Music, Have rave reviews in dance music press, as well as being MixMag's Techno 'tune of the month', and was also supported by some of the biggest and most respected selectors in the scene (such as Ben UFO. Fred P, Mr G, Midland, George Fitzgerald, Paranoid London, Move D and more).

From London to Ibiza via Berlin, inspired by Chigago and Detroit, Ceri finds her truth in proper house music. 'Can't Pay My Bills' EP provides a message of hope during uncertain times. Acknowledged as a "rising selector" by Crack Magazine, producer, label boss and record digger Ceri steps into 2024 with a brand-new EP 'Can't Pay My Bills" via her imprint "Find Your Own Records". "The title track is inspired by the current economic situation in the world, and also features a positive message that reflects the values and true origins of house music, reinforcing the belief that we can overcome our circumstances and improve our situation" - Ceri The new four track EP drips with Chicago, New York and Detroit jackin' house with garage influence, and a sprinkle of ripping UK breakbeat for good measure.
The people's producer D'Julz steps up, on remix duties, contributing not one but two remixes to the label's ongoing message of artist authenticity and collaboration. The remixes will be vinyl only, and the originals will see a digital release later in the year. "I have collected D'Julz music for many years, his label started around the same time I started DJing, and it was and still is, one of the few labels that I buy on sight. I know it will always be quality. Something I aspire to do with my label too."– Ceri.
As an artist led label 'Find Your Own Records' has become a home for genuine house legends Mr G, Fred P, Alex Arnout, and has rightly gained support from Mixmag, Resident Advisor, BBC Radio 1, BB6Music and BBC1Xtra.
