His words wrestle with the soul’s desire to be free of the trajectory from birth to death, or at least to understand it, through the gods, through mortals and their muses; all lying behind the mask of the individual, the actor on the universal stage inhabits luminosity and indolence, stagnation and regeneration, with the inevitable cycle, repeating, failing, reminiscent of the theology of Samuel Beckett, and the philosophy of the goddess Khali; Creation. Preservation. Destruction. His prayers and laments carry the thin smoke of both incense and excrement, of blood and saliva, mortal’s jewels, which we offer the gods we invent, both sacred and profane. The characters Tinti draws from the Greek myths; the muses, the slaves, enable ‘the actor’ to inhabit the essential struggle of what it is to be human, like a Noh play, doomed to repetition and the transcendence gained from it, to be human under the burning sun, which both gives life and destroys. Imaginary Pathways Some places in our cities can be incredibly awestriking. These places don‘t need to be beautiful, but you connect with them anyway. You go through them on your way to work, when you walk by and look out of the window, visit a virtual landscape, a city cascaded in light and darkness, a landmark from that place on an old photograph. These places burn deep into the mind. Laying on your bed, you can imagine any of these places vividly - but your mind wont show you every detail. You build your own imaginary pathway, a collection of memories and synapses, with all the information you have. We did exactly that in this album. We took real places and situations that embossed our life and constructed our own imaginary place with our music. Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, and SkyTwoHigh from Dortmund, Germany, bring to you a construction our of own Imaginary Pathways.

A word from SkyTwoHigh: I've often had trouble working with people musically and collaborating on projects. Usually finding that our musical visions were not in alignment. I sometimes thought about how I'm always making music alone, but then I met you Cesar, and this finally changed. Now I could truly share my musical experience, and I never had more fun in my entire life. Your musical vision was identical with mine and our styles matched so perfectly, it was a real blessing. I remember specifically when we did our first track and how amazed I was that everything worked so well. You had exactly the same ideas as me. It was unbelievable. The project went so well that we decided we'd do one each year, so I hope this lives on forever as a collection our imaginary pathways R.I.P. There seems to be something in the water down in Hastings as a veritable hive of electronic music artists have been busy making beats in ever growing numbers down there - including Kim Cosmik. Kim's debut on 20/20 Vision is an impressive and highly original mix of techno, electro, broken beats and industrial sounds, destined to destroy the long-anticipated dance floor revival. Although overall the record is abrasive, hard-hitting and takes no prisoners - beneath the surface, in tracks like 'Drifting' we also find nuances of emotional musicality that shed vast streams of light on the proceedings. The record does indeed kick off with intent though with 'Night Flight' - a blistering techno workout that would resonate magnificently in the mighty Berghain hall. There's no holding back the menacing bass line, fortified tough jacking groove on this one as strong synth lines and strings embellish and complete the soundscape.Over to 'Ore' which cranks up the gears into an industrial techno slammer packed with abstract outer-planet sound design finished off with pounding overdriven drums programmed with military precision. On the flip side is a gem called 'Nocturnal'- this is the cut that first really caught our attention at 20/20 Vision, with it's merciless industrial dubstep kick drums and brutal precision. It's a simple, stripped back workout held in place beautifully by a discordant string - there's just no escaping this fierce ruling diva. Not for the faint-hearted but those who dare will be rewarded. Kim's final track 'Drifting' is the jewel in the crown that provides the light after the storm. It's a blissful, cosmic, jazz fused musical tapestry driven by break beats, while compassionate strings infused with Kim's own vocal harmonies and subtle piano motifs glisten and glide over the track adding soothing layers of harmonious quality. Drifting is the perfect close to a truly stunning debut EP.

Last Afternoon features collaborations with American vocalist and composer Joan La Barbara known for her recorded works with John Cage, Morton Feldman, Robert Ashley and composer and software developer Akira Rabelais known for his collaborations with Bjork and David Sylvian. The A1 track means a lot to me because two years ago my parents passed away within two weeks of each other due to cancer. It happened quickly between mid-August and the end of August. This was the saddest time in my life. I was struggling with myself, with the world, with everything. After a few months, I decided to translate my emotions into a song. I wrote this song for them but I was never able to finish it. It felt like I had overproduced it and was missing that special something. My good friend told me, Michael, dont think about the project for a period of time. Sometimes, something will happen when you dont expect it to. After nine months it was Christmas and we did a lets say a corona confirm dinner party. My good friend Basch invited Robert (Owens). Since Basch s mother and Robert are from the same town and maybe the same street in Detroit, they ve been connected to each other for the past 30 years! Robert came to the dinner party and it was synergy. I told him the story and about the missing elements for the song. He listened to it after dinner and said, okay where is your studio? After the Xmas dinner party, we went to my studio where we recorded the vocals. Robert did it on the fly and all friends in the studio cried tears as if there was some kind of magic in the air. Since then, we are working together on something special. It s blossomed into a friendship we both enjoy. The journey ends in London with my all-time favorite Label Fingerlickin Records. I requested a Remix from the Plump DJs and Jem Stone. Both agreed and the results are making this record unique. The Plump DJs Remix is a Uk Breakbeat-Chord-Style groove monster. Jem Stones version is an emotional journey that cannot be explained in words? Blackbox is a project from Tmplt, Robert Owens and Sebastian Sauve. What is in the Blackbox? There is no answer yet, but stay tuned. Sometimes you will find it out.

We've not been able to get to the bottom of who Kenny Burns is (or at least this one - there was a famous Nottingham Forest footballer of the same name in the dim and distant past), and 89: Ghost main man Neil Tolliday is keeping tight-lipped. Either way, this label debut from the man of mystery includes some genuinely impressive moments. Picturesque closer 'Crease', where dreamy chords and kaleidoscopic synth sounds rise and fall atop an unfussy dancefloor beat, reminded us of Nail's own 1993 cut 'Cassiopeia', while 'Crank' is a thrusting slab of early morning techno peppered with squelchy acid motifs, chiming electronics and loopy, mind-mangling riffs. Elsewhere, 'Croak' is an angular slab of warped techno intensity, and opener 'Creak' is a hypnotic neo-trance number.

Composer, electronic music innovator, and Pere Ubu's original synthesist Allen Ravenstine returns to Waveshaper Media with the diptych LP (comprised of 1 EP per side) Nautilus / Rue De Poisson Noir, the final two parts in Raventine’s Tyranny of Fiction series. Waveshaper Media first came into contact with Ravenstine when we interviewed him in 2012 for our modular synthesizer documentary I Dream Of Wires.

Nautilus / Rue De Poisson Noir brings together 21 of the prodigious composer’s recent lyrical and abstract compositions collectively comprised of the sounds of analogue and digital synthesizers, alongside traditional acoustic instruments. The first 10 recordings, subtitled Nautilus, are found on Side A of this LP while the second 11, Rue Du Poisson Noir, comprise Side B.

Using a singular blend of acoustic and electronic instrumentation, each track on Nautilus, weaves its own wayward travelogue amidst stray bits of audio verité and wafting musical fragrances—by turns tropical and foreboding. Rue De Poisson Noir takes cues from its fragmentary companion both in palette and approach, slithering between cinematic intrigue, off-brand jazz, avant-garde mischief, and fried electro without ever batting an eye. Together they form a beguiling collection of hyperrealist miniatures that remains strange, restless, inquisitive and — most of all — evocative throughout.

For those in the know, Allen Ravenstine has been one of the most creative synthesizer players of the past forty-plus years. Ravenstine started out in the mid-1970s experimenting in his Cleveland apartment with an analogue EML 200 synthesizer, eventually creating a piece in 1975 that became known as Terminal Drive. While he had no intention of releasing his compositions, word got out about the kind of sounds he was experimenting with, which led to an invitation to join pioneering “avant garage” group Pere Ubu for the recording of the group’s first 45, “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.” He soon joined Pere Ubu full-time, bringing to the band’s sound unpredictable textures, effects, bleeps, squalls, pulsating washes of sound—whatever he felt could enhance the soundscape of the band’s performances and recordings.

By the early 1990s, Ravenstine had grown sick of the road, band infighting and the music industry in general. Deciding a change was needed, he opted to forego music altogether, making his living as an airplane pilot. His music career remained in limbo until 2012, when an interview for the I Dream Of Wires documentary, alongside Robert Wheeler who had succeeded him as Pere Ubu’s synthesist, turned into a recording session for the duo, leading to a series of collaborative releases. As well as having his 1975 Terminal Drive recordings released to great acclaim in 2017, Ravenstine has been prolific in recent years, with Nautilus / Rue De Poisson Noir now marking his 4th solo full-length.

The album contains 21 songs on vinyl LP - limited to 300 copies. The recordings are also available in a 2CD digipak, and digitally as two separate EPs: Nautilus (wsm07), and Rue Du Poisson Noir (wsm08).

This album was originally composed in October 2017, performed and recorded live in Kasteliotissa Medieval Hall, Nicosia, on the 19th of November 2017 as an accompanying soundtrack to Fritz Lang's two hour-long edit of the film Metropolis (1927). Commissioned by the the curators of the 'German expressionism in Cinema exhibition' to compose and perform a live soundtrack, Panagiotis and Yiannis employed a hardware heavy arsenal to produce one of their longest pieces. modular synthesizers, guitars, drum samplers and drum machines are all protagonists. The performance lasted for two hours and was recorded in its entirety. It was later edited down to preserve all sound design qualities and a somewhat live feel. The title is an homage to the main actress of the film.

Panagiotis Mina and Yiannis Eliades, longstanding members of 'do it together' collective Honest Electronics and producers of their own material as Panayotis and Isel respectively, often collaborate on projects such as Brigitte. Panagiotis Mina is a producer, musician and visual artist. He lives and works in Cyprus from Pyrgatory studios, his out in the country home diy studio project. Yiannis Eliades produces and performs music using a blend of analog and digital synthesizers, drum machines and twisted recordings, on his own or as part of duos (myhn, Carnal Throes).

When Berus debuted in January 2021 on Kommerz Records with his “Voyage EP”, he had no idea how precise the title would be for the coming months. A little over a year before the release of “Voyage” the Berlin based multi-instrumentalist and producer had taken his focus away from his, more than a decade lasting, house and techno career towards a new sound, inspired from neo soul and hip-hop. Whilst his electronic projects found home on Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Recordings and DVS1’s infamous Mistress and gained his moniker Frag Maddin worldwide attention, it was part of his progress to focus on himself and Berus, his real name. He took this step not knowing it would lead him into a dark journey of self revelation, identity finding and for the foremost new hope: blue hope. Berus was born to a Zaza family in Kurdistan, which eventually migrated to Germany escaping prosecution and discrimination of the nationalist regime in Turkey. The family settled in Hamburg and Berus grew up to be a New Release Information musician. He played the drums, formed teen punk bands and started producing at an early age experimenting and shaping his future as an artist. Since the beginning of his career Berus releases can be seen like a diary, always expressing his very personal state at the time. For the work on “Blue Hope” two main topics fall into the production of the album: love relationships and seeking identity.

Robert Sotelo is a mercurial melodist building a resplendent world of pristine DIY pop from the ground up. The Glasgow-based artist’s songs are meticulously crafted, patchworked together with eclectic arrangements and ardent vocal performances. Each of his albums to date has been accompanied by a growth-spurt, 2017’s debut ‘Cusp’ was packed with miniature psych overtures, whilst 2018’s 'Botanical' was more keyboard-minded and playful with a near-absurdist palette of sound. ‘Infinite Sprawling’ came out towards the end of 2019 and surprised with songs pulled together like a wakeful stretch, brisk with a lightness of touch. This was neatly followed by ‘Leap & Bounce’ melding a sparse synth-pop minimalism to an emotional undertow.

New York’s Pop. 1280 was formed in 2008 by Chris Bug and Ivan Drip, with the vision of rebelling against the music of the day and making their own soundtrack for the end times. Initially a noise rock outfit, the band has released five LPs and numerous singles integrating diverse influences of industrial, EBM, techno, and post-punk into their signature sound. In 2018, Matthew Hord joined Chris and Ivan, and this new trio embarked on a collaborative journey that saw the band shed their rock roots and turn their focus toward sequencers, drum machines, samplers, and synthesizers. This exciting outpouring of creativity produced 2019’s "Way Station" LP.

Now, Pop. 1280 present their 2021 album, "Museum on the Horizon", an industrial opus that epitomizes Pop. 1280’s drive to push themselves into new artistic territories, and to inspire each other to be bold and hold nothing back. After releasing two albums on Hands in the Dark in 2019 and 2020, Ben Shemie continues his solitary sound explorations, amidst his work with Suuns, unclassifiable Canadian band blending krautrock, drone and electronic explosions for more than ten years. His 303 Diary, sonic journal composed during the few blurry months we now call the “first lockdown”, is based around the Tb-303, mythical synth and sequencer that conjures up both acid house and Detroit techno. Fascinated by this instrument, which was key in the development of certain electronic music genres in the 1980s and 1990s, Ben Shemie delivers his own vision of it: distorted, deeply poetic and full of life.

For lovers of travel, encounters and the unexpected, the lockdown imposed by a worldwide sanitary crisis could not be received otherwise then with frustration. A tightened framework where artists had to face solitude and doubt. For Ben Shemie, the adoption of a new companion marked the beginning of a project, inevitably linked to his environment, in frenetic mutation.

Filled with a psychedelic energy, the five tracks of 303 Diary, recorded at the end of Summer in just six hours in Montreal’s Hotel2Tango with the help of Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem in My Heart), navigate between liquid melodies, aerial moments and robotic voice effects. An intoxicating pop full of madness, where senses are tickled by the irresistible acid riffs of the Tb-303. For the first time, Shemie invites a musician to join him. Didem Başar brings her touch of kanun – traditional zither heard in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia – on the track “Didem” where the fury of Western electronic music meets the untouchable beauty of oriental plucked strings. A dialog he enjoys including in his projects since many years, be it with Suuns or solo. This EP is also a place of experimentation on the voice, which becomes an instrument like any other, pitched, coated with effects, muffled, sometimes tangled in the layers of synths. As with his previous albums, 303 Diary is the occasion for Ben Shemie to deliver a deeply personal and curious project, centered around performance, where urgency and intimacy open a gate to new horizons.

One half of Giant Swan, Robin Stewart breaks the ice for new label ipaadi with what he calls “a weird love letter to ‘maximal minimalism’”. Written in 2017 long before he had considered releasing solo music and all one drum machine, Robin presents a dry, bone-crunching set of industrial experiments that leave the clasp wide open for high-intensity dancefloor moments. “Albatross” is a snapshot of Robin in a more frenetic, unyielding sonic space. Ranging from an enveloping sustain on the opening title track, a frantic 160bpm kick drum shower on “thcx” to an almost downtempo feel on “Triffid”, all of which feel borne out of a vast, collapsing industrial landscape similar to the one that he is also known for as part of Giant Swan. Robin states that it's unlikely he'll make tunes like this again and cites label owner Yewande Adeniran (Ifeoluwa) as one of the main inspirations behind the record. Yewande convinced Robin to consolidate the tunes on Albatross; the two Bristol based DJs have developed a friendship while each becoming rising stars on UK techno rosters over the last few years. Ipaadi is the second label started by Yewande in the last year, the first, Intervention, focusing more on activism, charity and community through its releases whereas Ipaadi, is more of a personal project for the music they love.
