On June 16th, 2023, Steven Julien and Kyle Hall return with their first EP together in ten years, Crown. The record follows earlier EPs the duo created under their former alias Funkinevil, 2013's Ignorant and 2012's Night/Dusk. The record once again brings together two artists from opposite sides of the pond—Julien hailing from London and Hall representing Detroit—with a shared love for soul in its purest essence. Opening "Page 1", a pitched-down vocal by James Massiah pronounces, "My plan—won't let you take it from hand." That alone could be considered the nut graph of a record about taking ownership, created by two vanguards in the electronic music scene that, a decade ago, insisted on infusing their music with soul in a commercial club circuit lacking in it. Assembled from a few years-worth of studio jams in Julien's studio, Crown dials up the staticky warmth present on earlier Funkinevil tracks like "Dusk" and "In The Grid." Across seven songs, Funkinevil shaves off some of their tougher elements, instead shooting for pastoral melodies and funky basslines, like on "Page 2", where Vicky Flint's flute flutters sleepily over breaks and a groovy Korg synthesizer. But the atmosphere on the EP is also grander than ever—on "Page 5," Cloud's wistful melisma soars over Flint's bleating saxophone and wandering sci-fi synths. With all this attention to funky musicality, it's only fitting that two legends specializing in the craft would land on the B-side—Däm Funk revs up "Page 3" with a slamming kick and his unmistakable coolness, and Reggie B turns "Page 5" into a sludgy, jazzy dance party. In the words of Julien, "I think a lot of people have forgotten about what this whole thing is about. Musically, artistry and everything. So I'm happy this is what we represent on this project."

The four track EP ‘Love Language’ presents a collaborative project by Manchester based DJ and producer Joey T and singer-songwriter Lady Lady, marking their first release with Manchester’s grassroots label, Mas O Menos.

Defining The EP are experimental instrumentals with a consistent fusing of elements of 80s electro with classic deep house beats, and catchy lyricism. ‘It’s Just Me’ kicks off the EP with a progressive tune that softly intensifies. Shakers and minimal organ-esque elongated chords form the basis, before a wobbly electro bassline, cold, rhythmic percussion, and vocals by Lady Lady layer in. Straightforward and unambiguous, the lyrics set off the theme for the whole project – coy lustfulness. Cooing “When you want it just come over / We’ll get high and f**k on my sofa.”

Track two, ‘Like You’ transports you back to the 80s. Serving up a funky NY style house bassline that gradually builds with punctuations of dub and disco. Effortlessly fusing unconventional genres is perhaps Joey T’s central stylism. Absorbing in its melody, Lady Lady chimes “You show it outside / I keep it inside / Even though I hide / Somehow you know.”

On the lyrics Lady Lady shares: “Collaborating with Joey was natural from the start, his music makes me feel something so the words just flowed. My lyrics are simple to understand and relatable, but simultaneously, open to interpretation. ‘Like You’ is actually inspired by my experience as a queer woman but that wouldn’t immediately spring to mind. I want everyone to be able to use their own experiences to find their own personal meaning within the lyrics.”

‘Maybe’ is a maximalist up-tempo burner. Its distinctive groove borders on tribal, with a distinctive psychedelic bassline underscoring the hypnotic quality of the track. Interweaved is a distorted, futuristic rift that drives the bounciness of the tune, while the organ-esque melody maintains the synchronicity of the 80s feel of the EP. “Maybe one day you’ll give me your number / So I can work on tryna get a little closer,” Lady Lady silkily sings.

The title track, Love Language, concludes the EP with an eerie yet pulsing ensemble. Slowing down the pace and stripping it back, it takes the listener on a journey of minimal synths, punchy chop drum breaks and soothing vocals that recite “Tell me what's your love language baby / I wanna talk it to you / Tell me your love language.”

On the EP Joey T said: “Releasing ‘Love Language’ is an incredible achievement for both of us, as in all honesty it started off as a joke... Lady Lady posted a comedic song during lockdown on Instagram, but the lyrics resonated and so I wanted to create a proper instrumental for it. We then bonded over our love for a diversity of sounds and artists, as well as our shared shyness as artists, and the project just took off from there.

“Shout out to Levi Love, Founder of Mas O Menos, who has been integral to the project. He’s championed us both and given us the confidence to produce this unique body of work that represents us both so well.”

Levi Love added: “I first listened to Maybe and Like You in my car and gave them a loud blast whilst driving around and immediately loved them. I then arranged a meeting with Joey and Lady Lady and from there the project was formed. Love Language absolutely arrested me and is a song that holds such sentimental value to me.”

Parallel Minds' 4th label release comes via a long-time friend of the label and one of the city's most idiosyncratic artists, Vibrant Matter. A drummer, producer, film composer, DJ, and a veteran of the city's experimental pop scene, Kieran Adams' music has intrigued us at the label for a long time. From label co-founder Ciel's early days as a local promoter/DJ, she had been inspired by Adams' psychedelic & percussive DJ sets and found a kindred spirit in someone who shared similarly diverse musical interests. After two distinct & spellbinding releases on ACT!’s (fka Egyptrixx) Halocline Trance and beloved experimental label Seance Centre, PM cofounders received a batch of demos from Adams that felt too ideal to pass up. Encompassing everything from abstract improv performances, sound poetry, dub riddims, voice notes from friends, jazz drum breaks — the tracks were simultaneously confounding while still firmly rooted in club music.

Syncrete began in 2019 as sound experiments made with the artist's newly purchased Moog Matriarch. Chopping breaks, working with field recordings, and utilizing the instrument's delay, gate, filter, Kieran recorded himself doing long jams of synth and percussive textures that were formed into new rhythmic sequences and variations. Two years later, he went back to those sessions and plucked out his favourite loops and built new tracks around them, which you find here in this collection. For Kieran, this was an exercise in distillation and shedding, aided by the passing of time. In following this process, he was able to combine many different facets of his interests, and with time, pinpoint the most touching parts of each recording. There’s this really beautiful and haunting quality when for a moment through the fog of these compressed sounds, you can momentarily pick out a human voice, or a distant echo of a breakbeat, this feeling of a barely discernible shape in the sonic mist is what gives the EP a haunting emotional resonance & distinct musical texture.

Jackâ€™s House Recordings welcomes back Legit Trip for his 6th quality release on the label with the 4 track (vinyl only) Deep Moan EP. His much sought after first (vinyl only) Answer EP back in 2016, sold out within a couple of weeks ! A1. Acid Babe jumps straight in with a solid padded kick and techy hats before building up into low acid sounds and fluctuates throughout the track with some cool vocal snippets occasionally thrown over the top. Two minutes in, the track falls into a 30 second breakdown and pumps straight back into itâ€™s tech acid groove. Great energy on this one. A.2. Otkuda has a more bouncy feel to it led mainly by the baseline accompanied by some long moody chords carried by crisp swinging hats and offers another entertaining but effective and cool drum roll, arranged perfectly for the dance floor. B1. The title track Deep Moan is an energetic up tempo deep underground rolling number with lots of warmth and swing with a surprisingly oldskool house drum roll a third of the way through the track before slamming straight back into itâ€™s deeper groove. B2. Finally, Gotcha reminds us of Legitâ€™s more deep/tech staple sound. Warm, punchy, quirky and smoothly driven with a few breakdowns along the way with a deep male whispered vocal snippet over the top.

Disco Segreta is proud to present the first release of its sub-label Glossy, entirely dedicated to contemporary dance productions. The label debut Gl01 is titled “E’ Festa” and is sung by Sardinian singer Angela Colombino (b. Sassari, 1987). Composed shortly before the first pandemic lockdown, "E' Festa" saw Colombino accept the challenge of trying her hand for the first time at an unusual repertoire to her, that of dance music, in a game of mirrors alternating a syncopated rhythm with deliberately dramatic lyrics.

"E' Festa" is the only non entirely instrumental track appearing on the soundtrack of "Tutti I Cani Muoiono Soli", debut movie of director Paolo Pisanu (b. Sassari, 1984), recently premiered at Bifest 2023. The movie is an all-existential drama centred on Rudi, a small-time neighbourhood criminal torn between his petty racket and the return into his life of his daughter Susanna. Showing an unprecedentedly cold and inhospitable Sardinia, the city of 'Tutti i cani muoiono soli' stretches across an urban space to more anonymous suburbs, theatres of most of Rudi's shady affairs. The all-inland touristic in summer vs. empty in winter Platamona turns into an alienating 'non-place’, with its constantly dark sea and livid color palette.

The movie won the 2018 Solinas Prize for best film screenplay, written by Gianni Tetti, a novelist nominated for the Strega Prize in 2017 and the “Gabriele Ferzetti Award” for Best Actor in a Leading Role to Orlando Angius at Bi Fest 2023.

She may be making her first appearance on NuNorthern Soul, but Zeynep Erbay is no newcomer. A classically trained pianist who took a turn towards the dancefloor while at university, the Turkish DJ/producer earned her first release on Compost Records way back in 2007 after taking part in 2006’s Red Bull Music Academy programme. Since then, her career has been on an upwards trajectory, with releases on Fools Gold and Soul Clap Records confirming Erbay as a genuine rising star of underground electronic music. On the Healer EP, the Istanbul-based producer showcases the more atmospheric, sun-kissed end of her productions, taking a turn away from synth-powered, disco-leaning club tracks towards something more suitable for al-fresco events, sun-down sets, and sofa-bound listening sessions. Inspired by a poem inscribed on the back cover of the EP, Erbay’s two original instrumental tracks simply ooze with emotion. The poem tells the story of a whale searching for her family while helping others along the way, which acts as a metaphor for our wider search for belonging and acceptance. This aural narrative unfolds firstly across ‘Heart of a Healer’, a slowly unfurling stunner in which emotion-rich chords, gentle electronic melodies and Erbay’s poignant and picturesque piano motifs, gently rise above a chunky dub disco bassline and mid-tempo, triple-time drums. Delving further, the effortlessly emotional, life-affirming composition ‘Healer Whale’, where Erbay’s impeccable piano playing ushers in languid, jazz-flecked drums, dubby bass, sumptuous synth-strings and colourful, slow-moving chords. On remix dutires, NYC-based Italian Danilo Braca, who also mastered the release, provides a fine club-focused fix of ‘Heart of a Healer’, laced with crunchy machine drums and undulating Tb-303 acid lines. NuNorthern Soul regular Marshall Watson handles ‘Healer Whale’, first delivering a fine ‘Remix’ version that effortlessly blurs the boundary between dub disco and Balearic nu-disco, before serving up a shorter, ambient ‘Reprise’ version.

I’m beholden to the original musicians and producers for providing the ‘bones’ of these edits. Some of the recordings are uncommon, some less so, but each has elements of magic, sparks blowing off of a burning branch that drove me to follow them into the night.” Highlights from the collection include: “Juice,” an early Tom Moulton mix refreshed and dripping with strings (fiddle, not philharmonic); “Thief,” a looped-up boogie number with a break that goes all the way across the urban highway; and “Happy Air Dance,” a heartfelt homage to the late Hamilton Bohannon. Kusōzu : Nine Death Stages is the second album by the Tokyo trio Archeus, which consists of Keiko Higuchi (voice, percussion, trombone, shamisen), Shizuo Uchida (bass strings), and Tomo (hurdy gurdy, voice). It follows their debut, self-titled and self-released CD and cassette from 2021 and is further proof – if any were needed – that these musicians, who’ve known each other for some time, but only started playing together relatively recently, share a telepathic communication, improvising together, fully in the moment, and as one. Where their debut album featured four extended improvisations, Kusōzu is an object lesson in economy and clarity – nine tracks, thirty-three minutes, everything that needs be said and nothing more.

All three musicians are incredibly active in the Japanese underground. Higuchi currently plays with Sachiko in Albedo Fantastica, adding Uchida for Albedo Gravitas; Uchida and Higuchi team up with Masami Kawaguchi (guitar) in vDBG. She’s also recorded with improvisers such as Naoto Yamagishi, Yasumune Morishige, and Shin-Ichiro Kanda. Uchida is also a member of MAI MAO, Kito-Mizukumi Rouber, Hasegawa-Shizuo, UH, and Terror Shit, and he’s recently recorded with improvising guitarist Takashi Masubuchi; Tomo has previously been a member of Tetragrammaton and Pouring High Water, and has recently performed live with Mick of Kousokuya, Mitsuru Tabata, Keiji Haino, and Daisuke Takaoka.

While Higuchi and Uchida have been making music together for some time now, they appear careful not to impose their previously articulated lexicon to bear on Archeus. There are trace elements of their playerly voices still present – the stretchy, plastic scrabbling on bass strings from Uchida; Higuchi’s murmurations of tone, and sudden plunges back down to earth, vertiginous and woozy – but there are other things going on here, particularly with Tomo joining in the action. His hurdy gurdy is a wild card in a group of wild cards, here cranking out burred, purring drones, there fidgeting through floods of notes, cranked up really high, ducking and weaving between Higuchi and Uchida as the three pursue the eternal now that is core to the best improvised music.

Archeus seem to work alchemically, transmuting their base matter into gold. Named after the Buddhist art practice of kusōzu, the graphic painting of nine stages of a decaying corpse in the open air, “to demonstrate the effects of impermanence,” as scholar Gail Chin once wrote.

Kusōzu : Nine Death Stages is Archeus at their most rigorously attentive to each other’s playing, and by the end, the music is itself thinking and feeling.

Ned Milligan is a New York based elementary school teacher and occasional musician. He’s behind the great small-run label Florabelle since 2015. This is his sixth solo album.

"My work in the past five years has been grounded in recording and playing outdoors, trying to communicate the meaning of being in a particular location and finding meaning in interacting with whatever sounds or elements are equally present. I'm still excited by all of it! This sense of purpose continues with Considerable and the most I could wish for is that the specificity of what I am doing and where I'm doing it manages to evoke something in anyone listening--a connection to their own environments and spaces. None of these pieces is strictly documentary or one-take in approach or composition, but I hope that the combination of processed and "factual" sounds achieve integrity."

Images Of Goo is what Munich sound bricolageurs Leo Hopfinger aka LeRoy (head of Das Hobos, H, Spiritual Emojis and others) and Cico Beck aka Joasihno (active member of The Notwist, Aloa Input, Spirit Fest and others) call their first musical dialogue in album format.

It is equally a dialogue with the elements of their sonic repertoire of echo variations and sonic shadows from the percussive instrument box. In their sum, a Wunderkammer of a panaudic, which can be approached and departed in six tracks per side.

There we pass a fuzzy factory flow music of sound tiles and find ourselves in the next station in a game of pot banging and gong shower with firecrackers and other sound explosions. Tinpan tinkertoy and sparkler warehouse become an offbeat downbeat of sound loops, and already we imagine ourselves amid the hammering and pounding of a magic sound forge at the center of the earth, which may be the center of a distant galaxy.

On side two, we enter a dripstone cave boogaloo ("Let's start tripping") and it drips candle wax from a vocoder space-age melody, emoting and coagulating into a Morse-coding cumbia chant. Wax music this is - music that grows out of itself, even if by the means of tape and collage.

At the end there is a music snake, which, having become snake music itself, disappears in front of our ears with a swing. And maybe this is the beginning ...

Desert Dictionary navigates sonic territories oscillating between language and landscape, between notation and noise. Voices responding and contributing to a complementary narrative, connecting personal memories, political considerations and psychological effects of a landscape seemingly empty and quiet. Adjacent, beneath and intertwined a modular synthesizer score based on field notes – a synthesized soundscape appearing as imaginary field recordings, at the same time resembling and unalike the place in question.

The twelve contributions presented on the LP were recorded in South Africa over a period of three months in 2020 and 2021. These recordings occurred in various locations in Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Richmond / Northern Cape, Cape Town, Grassy Park, Krugersdorp and Johannesburg.

The Desert Dictionary appears in four iterations – a situation as part of Modern Art Projects South Africa’s collection, a radio play (commissioned by Deutschlandfunk Kultur), a book edition (published by Mapsa), and the present LP.

The LP version is based on the radio play and features the voices of Richard John Forbes, Maja Marx, Phala Ookeditse Phala, Victoria Wigzell, Tubatsi Mpochmoloi, Liza Grobler, Nkosinathi Gumede, Karlien van Rooyen, Mongezi Ncombo, Ivan Messelaar, Gerhard Marx and Lindiwe Matshikiza.

The synthesized field recordings – translations of fieldnotes taken in the desert – were recorded in Johannesburg and Berlin.

For BiD006 we're very pleased to announce that renowned Artist Matt Sewell has agreed to release his fledgling audio project, Sewell & The Gong on the label.

4 guitar led mystical meanderings and deep meditations of cosmic transcendental psychedelic folk. Matt's acoustic guitar has been a fixture of his studio for many years, although nobody would ever of known as he kept it pretty much to himself. Over the years he developed a self taught, repetitive, finger picked style in hushed tones to not bother anybody. Just a quiet little part of his studio practise, calming looping melodies.

Like his art, his music is very much inspired by nature, earth magic and cosmic wanderings. His 'A Crushing Glow' compilations are pretty much a defining list of inspirations. Never heard by anybody outside of the family home that all changed after Matt started working with Newcastle based multi-instrumentalist, fellow pathfinder and astral traveler Chris Tate. Combining forces Chris helped build a beautiful world for Matt's melodies to wander in, deep and lush and always, always positive.

It only feels right that this music now gets to stretch its legs in the outside world...

Damian Lazarus’ Secret Teachings imprint welcomes a unique project from Malian and French pairing Siraba, unveiling their debut single ‘Ngana Fôlly’ alongside remixes from Philou Louzolo and Peaking Lights. Meaning ‘The Great Path’ in Bambara, Siraba - the duo consisting of Malian hunter Boubacar Samake and Damien Vandesande, one half of French electronic band dOP - are on a path of bringing the traditional sound of the Wassoulou to the world. They met in 2003 when Damien visited Mali to work with local artists and met Boubacar’s father - the legendary Sibiri Samake. Working together on multiple occasions, the two promised to work with one another and Boubacar on a project one day, and 17 years later, the two connected to begin to develop their unique sound and showcase their shared universe.

Inspired by the music of the master hunters from across Mali, the ‘Dozo’, the project transmits values based on justice and righteousness, love and respect for others, moral and spiritual rectitude and protection for everyone. Marmo, a collaborative project between Christian Duka (Vādin / Amoenus) and Marco Maldarella (Sinestesie), was born out of friendship and shared passion for music-making. Starting off respectively as the electric guitarist and singer in a metal band nearly a decade ago, the pair have worked their way through various flavours of electronic music inhabiting someplace between ambient and dance music, arriving at their singular aesthetic on this, their second album and first for Utter. 'Epistolae' - Latin for 'written letters' - was created between London and Bologna during the Covid-19 pandemic, an ode to friendship and as a way to keep connected during a time of isolated separation. The album is conceived as one continuous musical experience, with each track flowing effortlessly into each other in sequence as is heard on the final cut you are listening to now. A veritable sonic journey, as one might say. The outcome is an undulating collage carrying emotion as its common thread, with rich ambient textures giving way to bursts of percussion, simmering with shrouded whispers and spoken word, embossed with rhythms and borrowing influences from downtempo, dub, breaks, techno and tribal electronica. The opener is a warp-speed warehouse banger with distorted bass and manic energy, track two explores sludgy acid techno underworlds and track there is a twitchy cosmic workout with serene pads. 'Track 4' is a world of dystopian robotics while the flip side offers tripped-out, double-time dub techno, more acid intensity and experimental mind melters with exceptional sound design.

Written during a 2021 retreat to the remote coastal Oregon town of Yachats, Deb Demure leaned into the neo- psychedelic resonance of a uniquely bowl - shaped 12 -string Ovation acoustic/electric guitar. After early morning hikes in the rain, Deb would record ambient guitar experiments the rest of the day, tapping into "flow states," letting the sound lead the way. These sessions were then refined or recreated, and later elevated further with key collaborations by Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Justin Meldal Johnson (Beck, M83, Air), and Ben Greenberg (Uniform, Circular Ruin Studio). An Object In Motion is true to its title, capturing the chrysalis moment of an artist evolving, reborn and untet hered, silhouetted against an open horizon. "Cape Perpetua" kicks off the collection's divergent palette: sparkling acoustic fingerpicking refracted through delay, equal parts raga and reverie. Melodies and moods congeal and dissipate, at the threshold of rustic American primitivism, brooding neo-folk, and pastoral melancholia. "The Skin And The Glove" deploys jangle to different effect baggy, soaring, grey skied kaleidoscopic pop in the spirit of Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and The Glove. Rachel Goswell lends her iconic freefall voice to The Cure - esque ballad, "Vanity," infusing poetic gravity to the doomed refrain: "If the valve breaks / then the earth quakes / and history finds a way / to put you in your place." "Yield To Force", the closing track of the EP, may be the most anomalous offering of the set. A 15 minute instrumental odyssey of cyclical strings, ominous slide guitar, and simmering synthesizer, the piece sways and spirals like a long zoom into distant storm clouds. Demure finesses the guitar with a restless but regal grandeur, unfolding a panorama of peaks, shadows, and plateaus. It's music both intuitive and prophetic, tracing the slow swing of pendulums across an endless plain. Taken as a whole, An Object In Motion presents a showcase of potential futures from Drab's evolving domain, their sound poised to bloom at the precipice of transformation.

Now, Khotin revealshis first collection of new material since the signing. The album is a fluid continuation of his blissful and melancholic songcraft, extended humbly and warmly, Finds You Well.As tongue-in-cheek as the title may appear, the phrase has haunted the producer for some time. Most often seen at the start of correspondence, the words "I hope this email finds you well" can land with varying levels of sincerity, depending on context and mood. Khotin-Foote started to read the line more ominously during the onset of the pandemic. So, this set ofmusic winks at both possibilities, mixing a platitude's opaque optimism with lurking uncertainty.Finds You Well can be heard in near-symmetrical halves: its 10 tracks represent the selections from a bounty of demos that, with less modes- ty, could have filled two records, one active and the other ambient. The resulting set isn't an even split but it's close. The A-side centers on the album's steadiest sequence of beat-centric material. "Ivory Tower" is inextricably tied to benchmarks set by late `90s downtempo forerunners, spilling lucious and narcotic synth modulations across a sprinkler's spray of breakbeats. This declaration is only made sense by the "it's all good in the end" outro chant which plays into the track's triumphant feel. FAR FROM THE RHYTHM, as a whole, mines the reflective chasm that hopefully befalls one as they approach peak adulthood (the first of many peaks probably). "microCastle’s second offering of 2023 welcomes Ivory back to the label for his third producer showcase. Based in Milan, Italian artist Daniel Tagliaferri aka Ivory has been at the cutting edge of electronic music for the better part of a decade. Comparable to the path of his contemporaries, Daniel has found a way to create a personal universe by exploring electronic sounds, and ultimately finding his own place in the trend-driven state of underground dance music. Fully formed within the creative confines of his Milan studio, Ivory's third microCastle project ‘Persona’, follows on from 2021's ‘Light Through Water’, a seven-track affair which continued Daniel’s mission to create bold synthesizer symphonies from the tools of the club. As an evolution in his sound, the release was significantly more stripped-down and dancefloor-friendly than his label debut ‘No Scale Can Resize You’ yet continued to demonstrate and build on the Italian’s penchant for sophisticated sound design and memorable musical themes. Moving forward, 2022 proved to be a monumental year for Ivory, with the release of his debut album ‘Feelin’ sitting as the highlight, a release which was preceded by the immaculate EP project ‘Rain’. The year also saw the Milan resident gain further recognition as a DJ, as he continued to exhibit fresh programming along with thrilling pace and flow, in turn becoming an in-demand presence at major clubs and events throughout the world. Now, following a string of impressive remixes to begin 2023, Ivory makes a welcome return to microCastle with ‘Persona’.

EP opener and title selection ‘Persona’ is exactly the kind of confounding starting point that an Ivory project seems to relish in; one with a newly sprawling, saga-like story to tell. Unique in design and execution; its paranoid motifs, sci-fi vocal samples and perverse synth mutations are prophetic, all while maintaining a sense of urgency and spontaneity that astute dancefloors will appreciate.

Superficially, ‘Axis Mundi’ comes across as a classic chunk of Ivory bombast, but it exists in a markedly different sonic world, as multiple layers of rebounding rhythms, vocal trails and cinematic ambience get gently woven around a core of beefy grooves and cleverly coaxed chord stabs.

Meanwhile, the aptly titled ‘Sea Creatures’ operates on a more symphonic level, a provocative contrast to an extent, as Ivory’s marine design and dreamlike elegance conjures up utopian visions. Thickets of buzz swell and intensify across its nautical architecture, carefully reeling in the listener, before a thoughtful take on melody reveals Ivory’s creative attitude during an elegant finale.

As a much-requested track of Ivory’s DJ gigs, ‘Departures’ lands with a grandiose flair. Big, bold and magnificent; yet intricately crafted with perfectly contoured beats and serene meditative textures. There’s a strong sense of cruising across the first movement, allowing the listener to relish in the groove, examining phrases before leaving them behind for a smudge of fuzzy stabs and euphoric overlays. Balancing the mix, Daniel’s orchestral touches radiate throughout the production's final act, adding an air of sophisticated musicality to a mature no-frills arrangement.

Inspired by the limited HBO series of the same name, it is ‘Leftovers’ which sits as the anchor of the EP. Winding the release down in breathtaking fashion, its patient build and wispy harmonies tug at your heartstrings, progressing with a sense of intricacy and naturality that one would expect from the upper echelons of electronic music. In fact, it’s this minimalism, which at times has become a hallmark of Daniel’s more intimate work, and the brutally economical way in which he is able to wrench on the emotions with so little, that has distinguished his potency as an artist. A sound that delivers authenticity, it’s music which reminds us to simply be.

From the paranoid club realities of ‘Persona’ through to the heartrending qualities of ‘Leftovers’, this is a unique look into Ivory’s repertoire. Here, the infectious house music on which he’s built his career remains but also makes way for the space between the notes, and his melodic acumen is clear and gripping throughout."
