Temperatures are dropping and we’re all feeling the effects. Bordello A Parigi is letting the cold winds of the north swirl inside its doors with Russia’s Volta Cab bringing a fresh 2LP to the table. A spread of influences come together for the eleven tracks of Rise Again. Take “Emerald’s Phantasy”, a piece built on layers of percussion that blends elements of disco with notes of techno. “Dark Room” is a different affair. Arctic chords are cut with electro and distant vocals for an unsettling treat. “Kruger” stomps to a terse beat before lush pads bloom in a work that builds to dizzying peaks. Warm blasts balance these colder moments, the rich grooves of “Savage Fury”, the floor filling funk of “Board Scandinavia” and the removed romance of “Sweet Exorcist” all show another shade to the Volta Cab sound and of course there’s more. Rise Again is an audio collection of vibrant colours and hues, tracks pitch from icy blues to autumnal ambers and fiery reds; a musical kaleidoscope that stretches across a spectrum of styles.

After a long hiatus, Lux Rec is ready with its next release. Veil Of Light and Sleep Forever, both from Zürich, share the two sides of LXRC32. Music for broken, estranged, regretful times. Shipwrecked and completely obliterated. This is the first part of a series of three, called Unsung and Defeated, which focuses on local musicians delving in the darkest possible corners of electronic music.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dekmantel’s goings on in the world of events, festivals, and great music, the team behind the label have been releasing a record a month featuring some of their favourite artists, as part of a ten-year anniversary series collection. Featuring acts close to the label’s collective, debuts, and legacy talents the crew have always wanted to sign, the series has seen the likes of Gigi Masin, Call Super, Fatima Yamaha, and more. This penultimate EP, sees Dekmantel debut releases by Lena Willikens, Space Dimension Controller, and Dutch lo-fi star Betonkust and Palmbomen, in addition to a special cut by Bufiman.
The EP kicks off with a new track by Salon Des Amateurs resident Bufiman — real name Jan Schulte — who also goes by Wolf Müller. 'Hymn to the Moonface' ensures that percussion comes first and foremost, in this upbeat, prog-breaks, jaunty, summer cut following up on his Dekmantel debut "Peace Moves". Dutch duo Betonkust and Palmbomen release their first track on Dekmantel with 'Onrust Bij Tihange' - an ode to the Tihange Nuclear Power Station in Belgium. Specialists in crafting lo-fi, nostalgic sounds, Betonkust and Palmbomen do what they do best, with a pulsing, analog, nostalgic electro track that sounds as if its been fed through a VHS player, a top of recording of Miami Vice. What happened at Tihange through is another question.
Belfast-producer Space Dimension Controller, a.k.a. Jack Hamill adds some galactic, space-flare, mid-tempo, D-funk to the flip side. With a debut EP dropping on Dekmantel soon, SDC contributes one of his most beautiful compositions to date, highlighting his flair for melody, blending it astutely together with rich techno hat and snare combos. Concluding the record, is Dekmantel favourite, Lena Willikens. After so many appearances across so many of Dekmantel festivals, it’s a pleasure to have the astute selector release a rare production on the label. Willikens' dark wavey cut is something one would expect to hear in one of her sets, sounding like a modern take of a long-forgotten, and unknown krautrock band.

No Honey From These, EM, Antonia, Plastic Cocon, Parrish Smith & EM. Butterflies is a 12” EP compilation (1983-2016) by the Amsterdam based label Top Tape (founded 1986). On this release of 500 copies on yellow vinyl you find old and new work, old and young artists, like the talented Parrish Smith. There is also a great Restauration by Dunkeltier. The album has been remastered with care by Rude 66.

Glaskin, Preset, Vince, Philipp von Bergmann & Maurice Paloni. The brothers Jonathan and Ferdinand Bockelmann aka Glaskin … the “Kellerkinder” who are taking care of the “Schall im Schilf” & “Back to the Woods Festival” form together the duo Glaskin. In recent months, a lot has happened to them, they have e.g. with Esacpe Velocity released her debut EP and another 2 more on Hotflush. “Tymewriter” is carried by a broken beat over which gloomy surfaces overlap.

Platform 23 launches with the reissue of the seminal Alternative Funk compilation series, presenting a selection of music across 2 volumes.

Known for the highly heralded "Folie Distinguee" album in 1985, what is often over looked is the fact there accompanied 2 further "Alternative Funk" cassette compilations that same year. Coming within the Audiologie series on Vox Man Records, these "Various Artist" selections were indicative of labels that sprung up in the early 80s around the DIY post-punk scene.

As founders of Vox Populi!, Axel Kyrou and Francis Man, working with close associate Pierre Jolivet's aka Pacific 231) VP 231 label, released a number of cassettes, 7" and LPs between 1982 and 1988, as much to self-release their own music as to push new or contemporary artists.

Here then is a snapshot of the Alt Funk albums, selecting songs that avoid recent or upcoming reissues, to dive deep in the series from industrial to cold wave, proto-dub percussion to avant spoken word pieces. Featuring the likes of Son Of Sam, Philippe Laurent, Fist Of Facts - with a long lost first ever recording - and Human Backs, stepping out from semi-cult name dropping to sit alongside unknowns and never heard from again in Scoop!, Kosa, Zoohtee and the wonderful Randall Kennedy.

What is apparent is an idiosyncratic nature to the selections. In the same way many independent labels of the time - such as Auxilio De Cientos' Terra Incognita volumes or Final Image's Nightlands - created a label snapshot by pulling together far and wide contributions but retaining an overall 'sound'.

The Volume 1 and 2 reissue achieve that, mixing experimental with electro, post punk with noise, to offer more than the sum of their parts - an Alternative Funk.

A download code is included. 3AM Spares is a new collection of Australian Electronic Dance Music compiled Andras and Instant Peterson that encompasses the darker sounds and later nights of the 1990s and beyond.

So Gerd and Philipp were due to play XOYO one saturday night and the club is 6 minutes from my studio so I suggested we go there first to make tunes for a few hours. We made 2 songs that night and one of them is ‘reach out’. Gerd did the drums on my 808, Philipp wrote the beautiful lead part on my OBXa and I did the bass in my cs80. I added the words a couple of weeks later, they are inspired by Leonard Cohen’s letter to his muse Marianne Ihlen on her deathbed. Frankfurt duo Transonic Flow fly at the speed of sound on this six-shooter for Dream Ticket, giving the label 3 for 3 in 2018. The furious salvos of 'Pk Jam', 'Elec Jit', 'Arp Attack' and 'KC's Intermission' come fully loaded with influences from classic Detroit jit and electro, while 'Frtry 2jun' and 'Hp Dub', with all their broken melancholy, sound like man-machine laments for the aftermath. Make electro, not war!

2001, the first year of the 21st century, but especially for many born in the 60's, 70's and 80's, the year that was surrounded with an aura of "the Future" and which became symbol of the new and unknown things that life has in store, the starting year of a new transgression period in both scientific, cultural and spiritual evolution. In that year Transllusion recorded music in the Dimensional Waves Productions studio of which till date two known productions saw a release: "The opening of the Cerebral Gate" and shortly after that the mysterious "L.I.F.E." album on Rephlex. More than 15 years later, an unknown wave resurfaced, washing up an incomparable emotional state of electronic depth. Music from the Future rooted in an underwater Afro-futurist realm and the grandiose cosmological truths. This time rushing over us in a much more personal, reflective and more introspective way, yet leaving behind sonic confusion. We now know who was responsible for all these futuristic recordings perfectly reflecting what the year 2001 stood for, James Stinson can be seen as one of the last few techno musicians from his generation that lived up to the high expectations of moving forward, finding the unknown and embracing the future without reliving the past. This recently discovered DAT-tape, using his Transllusion alias, is the 3rd outing of the project and, surrounded with an even brighter aureole than the previous recordings, confirms the status of its producers mastermind. No further details are known, except for the project name written on the tape, but these intimate moments in the studio tell us what the future sounds like according to James Stinson!

CYBERSPEAK, Milan multidisciplinary collective appears on the internet as a language of objectivity and truth, as the computer is, challenging the existing order in electronic music. “V1” is the first physical episode coming from duo TRAIN TO ELTANIN showing their skills with 5 tracks that embody the musical accelerations of the label. Hi-Speed Electrofunk with some energetic stop and go that makes it a sure killer dancefloor weapon, atmospherical and evocative club sounds, classicism jazzy school driven by computer sequencers, jungle assaults and broken electronics. The message is clear: Keep on Programming!

Meant Records welcome accomplished Parisian producer Tim Paris for an EP that features two standout originals and two brilliant remixes from Cosmo Vitelli and Sonns. Over a glittering career, Paris has of course collaborated with Ivan Smagghe, run his own Marketing Music label and turned out a diverse album, ‘Dancers’, for My Favorite Robot. From jacking electro to rugged new wave via freaky house, he has a fully formed palette that is distinguishable by his raw sense of groove and texture. First up here, Paris works with Telemark on ‘Version A,’ seven sizzling minutes of macho robot funk. Whirring synths, twisted bass and chunky drums all get you up on your toes and are sure to inject the crowd with wild spirit. French touch veteran and I’m A Cliche label boss Cosmo Vitelli steps up to remix and brings more punk spirit to a slap-funk track with booming kicks and brain frying chords. It drips with cool and dark libido and is sure to become a real anthem.

Here we are releasing the second album of Cologne born producer Thyladomid who is familiar to many through his work on Hamburg label Diynamic which has lead him to perform around the world, together with artists such as: Adriatique, Solomun, Kollektiv Turmstraße, HOSH, David August, Stimming, and many more. More then 30 minutes playing time, 6 tracks and artwork by Florian Kramer offer a lot to discover. Thyladomid is famous for his forward thinking deep melodic dance music which earned him respect and support from many people of the scene and evolved also in cooperations with Adriatique and the singer Mahfoud.

Death to Techno is a new, futuristic ep of “The White Screen", ever before into a world of ruff beats, dark electronics and analog effects. Musical producer Dori Sadovnik, the sound genius from Red Axes, produced this ep at Garzen Studios, diving together with the whites into a new world of unknown pleasures and sins.

The Pulse Projects is the moniker of Albert van Abbe's electro-focused venture. His forthcoming release on Patron Records leans heavily on the gritty and murky sound that we know from the versed producer/DJ, who has been around for quite some time now. 'Soon To Be' is a forceful four-track EP that includes a lot of weighty patterns, compelling soundscapes and some wobbly acid-flecked grooves. But most of all, the EP demonstrates how effective, yet meaningful distorted kicks and breakbeats can be.

Optimo Music don’t generally do limited edition releases but when The Golden Filter did these extra mixes of “End Of Times”, the A1 track off their recent EP we thought they were too good to remain in the digital domain so have pressed up a small run of 12” singles aimed specifically at DJs. The original single version is a future synth classic. These new dub versions take it to the dancefloor and have been tried and tested around the world over the last few months. They are considerably extended, dubbed out and add extra dynamics & ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. There is a slo mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm which means the track should work any time from warm up to peak set. There is also a Drone-Apella version included too.

The latest release by Musique Pour La Danse is a reissue of a rare and cult record, Super Nova's Planetary Invazion EP. It is part of a 4 EP reissue series of Nate Krafft's music under several aliases (Super Nova, Naquil). Originally released by Infra in 1996, this is an off-kilter EP that should be filed under techno / electro / Detroit but that also goes beyond these categories.

It’s the 2nd release of Studio Mule’s new project with Miyako Koda aka Dip In The Pool. Following the cover version of Ohnuki Taeko’s carnaval, we made the new version of japanese new wave classic “Shinzo No Tibia by Mariah” with a new lyrics in japanese(original is in armenian)which is written by Miyako Koda. Yasuaki Shimizu kindly gave us the permission to do this. Extended version on a side is full of the respect for the original version and dub version on b side is dark new wave dub version. Kuniyuki said the idea of this version came from Adrian Sherwood’s remix for Depeche Mode.

It’s the return of the sexual vigilante Sex Judas and his trusted sidekick Ricky. This time in full album mode. Norwegian producer Tore Gjedrem of Ost & Kjex fame, channels his love of comix, bohemia and fascination with human vice, the unspoken, the Red Light districts, the alleys of the mind into his alter ego. Sex Judas is no bad character but certainly says what it’s author cannot. “I wanted to create a world where any musical idea is possible, wound together by the world and word of Judas, the ultimate sinner, reborn as a child of Venus.” Inspiration ranges from Africa to 80’s NYC, from Bohannon to Quasimoto, from Norwegian New Wave to Acid House. With contributions by friends in the Oslo scene as hometown legend Dj Pål Strangefruit Nyhus, composer Ole-Henrik Moe, jazzpianist Bugge Wesseltoft, Sidiki Camara from Mali playing that beautiful Ngoni, and multi instrumentalist Ivar Snuten Winther, the album touches anything from blues, funk, disco and post-punk to IDM, acid house and electronic explorer music.

When Cities Collide IV [The distant future. The year 2087.]The first fully autonomous artificial intelligence with the ability to learn and improve itself is created by the Sega corporation. Two years later they invent the first time machine, and call it the Timecast. Sega decides to send the A.I. named Segadeath back in time to 1881 to destroy Nintendo before its creation. Helsinki’s Mesak and Marseille’s Bill Vortex are the Jompo Boys and their Jompo dance to the Jompo Anthem is the new craze all over Europe. It’s a uniting front we form while Jompo spreads and spreads and takes over every fiber on the planet.

Shader Complete is an exquisite, multi-faceted album that pivots effortlessly between widescreen electronic synthscapes, atmospheric drones, and claustrophobic appropriations. It's the latest permutation of a release that originally arrived in summer 2012 as Sacred Tapestry. That version, titled Shader, was written during the first couple months at her new home of Portland, marking a period of instability and existential confusion for Xavier.

After a long time in the works, Mothball Record is proud to present a lost album from legendary Italian wave band: Ruins. Hailing from Venice, Ruins are one of the pioneering artists of the Italian new wave scene beginning in the late seventies: an explosion of new and exciting art, music and film. The tracks on “New Record” were taken from the self-distributed, tape only release from 1983 “Side Roads”. This album was timed directly before their most well-known releases in contemporary times, the “Fire / Crime” 12” and the eponymous 4 track EP on Black Square. Taken from the original master tapes and selected by Ruins themselves, the album should be listened as a whole to gain the full experience, but immediate ‘must-hear’ tracks are “I Don’t Know”, “I Love You” and “Last Night DJ Killed My Wife” featuring early use of Roland TB303. At times unsettling, beautiful, violent, harmonious, these songs will finally get the audience and exposure they deserve 35 years later.

Quadratschulz is famed for his unmistakable blend of smooth electro grooves and playful melodies. It is this combination that the German synthman brings to his debut 12” on Bordello A Parigi, La Boum. Four cheer soaked pieces make up the EP with the radiant title piece opening. A cocktail of crisp beats, clean keys and just a twist of acid are blended to produce a fresh and uplifting tune. Braindance and chiptune influences abound, coming to the fore in the squirming and squelching energy of “Unfriend.” Drums and stabbing keys are washed in a light 303 rinse for a mischievous musical medley. The flip is introduced by the rich analogue tones of “Beta Industries.” Lush, this subtle work is moulded with layers of understated snares, crystalline keys and textured pads to create a beautifully delicate piece. The last order, “For Your Mind”, is a tall glass of electrofunk. Razor sharp rhythms are further honed by slashes of vocoder lyrics, cascading notes and some bitter knob jerks culminate to round of the superb La Boum.

Based in Paris Poison Point was born in the form of a one man-machine band in 2015. It features screaming synths hammered by a frantic drum machine, the whole driven by a sharp synth sound and topped by Timothée Gainet prime time coldwave vocals. Since august 2016 Poison Point is a two piece band, join by Arnaud Derochefort on keyboards, live drum machine and programming. After two releases for Third Coming Records they join aufnahme + wiedergabe with their so far most dancefloor orientated „Bestiensäule“ EP.

The artist sometimes known as Huerco S. ushers a phase shift of sound to the shoegazing harmonic gauze of Make Me Know You Sweet, his immersive debut proper as Pendant. Regis’ Downwards label presents an album of heavy hearted industrial songs from Ora Iso, making a kind of windswept, slowed-down and gothic pop variant that’s essential listening if yr into HTRK, Tropic of Cancer or Clay Rendering. Ora Iso are an NYC-hailing band revolving around Indonesian-Australian, Kathleen Malay and New Yorker, Jason Kudo. Building on the rubbly ground of their Bathcat debut for Ba Da Bing!, the duo’s mutual sense of entropy and ennui results in a classically scorched sound in Image Certifies, one laced with scornful sarcasm and a general dissatisfaction with the world, and yet somehow bolstered by the slightest promise of hope.

Welcome to the seductive groove of Nonetheless, a new duo formed of Florian Bocksrucker and Felix Bergleiter, and the first LP on Neubau. Across four sides of vinyl Nonetheless deliver an intriguing mixture of tough dystopian midnight-drive soundtracks and transporting early electronic/musique-concrète-hybrid interludes. Nonetheless is the sound of cogs turning, churning melancholy and pulsing snake-charmer drum machine palpitation. The end result is catharsis through sinister journeying. From the near-acidic punch of 'Machine of Love and Hate', to the grandiose slow-motion of 'Epik' and the ravey 'Exclusion Zone', Nonetheless' debut record is something special to savour, and is proudly presented as the tenth release on Neubau.

Sleepline (released as New Dreams Ltd.), plays in the liminal space between states of consciousness, inducing a hazy, deteriorating quality that stands in contrast to Shader Complete's mostly hi-definition aesthetics. It was written in winter 2013-2014, but it didn't see an official release until 2016. Originally conceived as a Sacred Tapestry sequel called Transcontinent, the album saw Xavier returning to her plunderphonic tactics, looping and down-pitching what sounds like decades-old Japanese commercials. This time, Xavier sought out source material that would more readily fall under fair use, attempting to bridge the aesthetic gap between her works by foregrounding her editing techniques as much as transforming the source material.

The first LP release for connected comes from Nandu and as with his previous EP releases the LP is a unique genre crossing palette containing elements from Deep House,House,AfroHouse,Electronic Techno and beyond brought together in Nandus’ original style. Truly an LP that begs to be listened to from start to finish. In Nandus’ own words: “One mans high can truly be, another mans anxiety. In some parts of life this is very clear like having a baby, do drugs, to work, not to work, be an artist, be a banker and so it continues. Yin & Yang and the whole idea of duality is another way to describe this. When you go left you say goodbye to right – at least for the moment you choose left. What you choose is up to you. In these cases you just have to look forward, but not without looking back. You need to learn, take it with you, and do better next time. This album is about how my highs also can be my anxieties."

MUSCLES & HATE is an unnamed artist from Russia producing raw, pulsating EBM-inclined rhythmic techno. His second white label release on bore hole in 2018 was quickly sold out and is now getting a limited repress.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker are the Electro duo of Caroline Hervé and Michel Amato from Grenoble, France. The pair met during the early 90s at a rave and soon after bought turntables and began DJing. In 1996, they started writing music heavily influenced by 1980s synthpop and post-punk bands like Fad Gadget, DAF, Liaisons Dangeuresues, and Yazoo, as well as Italo Disco. Bored by the techno scene at the time, they set out out to lighten the serious tone and bring a campy sexiness to the dour musical landscape. Upon hearing their demos DJ Hell signed them to his Munich-based International DJ Gigolo label and released their first 2 EPs in 1998 and 1999. Their debut album ”First Album" was released in 2001 followed by . in ?.


“Lost Tracks Vol. 2” contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999. The duo fused 80’s European New Wave/Italo Disco with 90’s Detroit Electro acts like Le Car and Dopplereffekt. By utilizing verse-chorus structures, they playfully shook up the loop based hard techno and electro that was popular at the time. Their studio set up at the time was a Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Siel DK80, and Boss DR-660 drum machine. The songs are direct, spontaneous, seemingly improvised in places. Miss Kittin sings about falling in love in the new millennium, snuff movies and controlling the unknown trip to death, all in her cheekily derisive French accent. All songs have been transferred from the original DAT tapes by the band and remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. Each LP includes a postcard with liner notes from Miss Kittin and The Hacker designed by Eloise Leigh. As Miss Kittin says of these demos, “We were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn’t expect anything in return”

Apart from being known for founding the infamous vinyl imprint Subaltern Records and for his residency on SUB.FM, Gabriele Romeo aka. Mentha has made quite a name for himself with his Jazz-influenced bass music productions. This LP is a selection of tracks from his vault, showcasing his musical abilities and tasteful compositions in this self-release.

Recorded in Busan, Republic of Korea by former US special agent MB Jones, ROK Spy documents both his stay in a country on the verge of a nuclear conflict and his mission there (for obvious confidential reasons, the purpose of this mission is only to be referred to in an elusive way). While most of his personal belongings have disappeared – or, more likely, been destroyed – we are very thankful for the safe receipt of a USB stick containing 7 songs recorded in Autumn 2017, alongside a drawing and a few handwritten notes. We are proud to now be able to share these with you.
In order to do so, we hastily came up with a label. The circumstances under which it was born lead us into calling it “Drama”. This release is DRAMA1.
The content of this LP is a seemingly disparate set of pop-not-pop tunes, flirting with dance music on songs like the apocalyptical disco Nuclear War or the bizarre and mind puzzling boogie Pusan Perimeter. Though it is quite hard to put words on MB Jones’s productions (one may accurately call it an “oddball” of a record), his musical testimony may sit somewhere in-between Holger Czukay’s most narrative pieces and Arthur Russel’s most cheerful moments, sharing with these two brilliant musicians a genuine feeling of intimacy emanating from each second of his songs. The only thing that may be said without a doubt is that these 7 songs are the product of someone whose ear has been attentive and receptive to all sorts of contemporary musical genres (from trap to experimental electronic music and EDM).
It’s still not clear whether the cryptic lyrics evoke situations which already occurred, whether they are oracles, some insider’s warnings or whether they are the product of a mind in a hallucinatory state. On Poison Pill – the closing song – he is particularly ambiguous : “the CIA bought me a trip / I put the tab under my lip / They want to build a shopping mall / On the DMZ wall”. We’ll leave the interpretation to you.
