The Shanklin Sessions came out of the Shanklin Road studio that Andy Sims shared with one of his partners from Soft Rocks, Bobby Coulman. Acid Jan started it's life as a Jan Hammer edit that Andy was doing for one of Soft Rock's Disco Powerplay releases. There were a few parts that never made the final cut, but were too good to leave, so Andy got friend Jaime Read in to jam with the left over bits, and from that Acid Jan was born
none of the Jan's original parts made it to this finished re-incarnation). Acid Jan found it's way onto Cynic label boss Felix's USB and subsequently was played at every festival/club that Felix played for about a year. When Andy heard Felix playing it at Alfresco Festival in 2016, they decided to release it on Cynic. In search of a B side for the release, Andy dug out the other DAT's from the session Acid Jan was recorded at, and found Sitars over Shanklin, a suitably oddball track to grace the other side. A little piece of Chicago via India recorded in Brighton.

It was called Orlando /Detroit because I had been playing in Orlando a few times and they were really into the whole breakbeat scene, which was around the time I started doing more electro/break beat stuff. I added Detroit, because it was really a mix of breaks with techno sounds on top.
I did the electro stuff with Techfunkers and it eventually evolved into more break beat and then some acid too mixed in, but this release was just a mix of old detroit and the Orlando break scene
Yes, obviously when I started out DJing and electro was born I was playing electro in the 80s, but after I had produced house, I liked to mix different genres, and I think I was probbaly oneof the only ones that was doing electro/house in 1993, but there was a fairly large scene in Florida and elsewhere where they played funky acid breaks, so I did some of that, and this release was spawned from that time.

Using the sounds of children playing in the sand on a Balearic beach, crickets in the grass, or the ambient soundscapes of bells recorded from his father’s apartment in Moscow, the producer also recorded and sampled his own voice to create distant, choir-like melodies in many of the tracks. The artist’s signature sound – a soulful yet driven harmonic blend – continues to propel the multi-talented artist to the highest acclaim into 2019 and beyond.

Territroy, the Greek duo of Panagiotis Melidis (Larry Gus / DFA Records) and Stathis Kalatzis (formerly Mr. Statik), release their first album Skulls & Plants on Dekmantel’s UFO label. A collection of experimental and spacious deep techno, psychedelic ambiance and compelling drums that draw you into a unique world of rhythmic sound and expect in DJ sets from Lena Willikens, Helena Hauff, and Vatican Shadow.
As starting point for their music the duo points at the AGET Heracles Cement Factory Plant in Volos, Magnesia. The factory is a metaphor that processes the land itself, ignites it in a cancerous way then dumps it into the sea and the atmosphere. It’s a combination of all possible scenarios of optimism and negativity, the essence of trying to do the best for everyone, but accidentally killing everyone in the process. That contrasting duality is mirrored in Territroy. What ties them is a constant rhythmic element that is persistent and comes from growing up in Greece and absorbing the rhythmic specificities of Southern Europe and unique Mediterranean attitudes.

Mark is releasing a new EP called Integriert Euch Nicht. It features two tracks taken from his Berghain debut and a freshly-composed drum & bass missile. “Fucking Sick Of Myself Since Day One (Hot Desk Mix)” and “Hats Off To Herr. F” were first performed at Mark’s 2018 Berghain live set during Ostgut Ton Nacht. The former is a breakcore-adjacent call to arms for the self-loathing, the latter an antarctic shiver of predator- mode IDM-illektro. “Integriert Euch Nicht (Commercial Jump Up Mix)” features singing from Blackest Ever Black alum Silvia Kastel. Mark wrote the vocal parts with sine waves before Kastel recorded each tone individually, creating microtonal clusters in the vein of Luigi Nono. The sax-like sounds are Wilted Woman playing the aerophone, an electronic woodwind instrument. Otherwise, it's Mark's most deliberately straight ahead drum & bass track to date, trading the beat science of former releases for a stubbornly boneheaded approach in line with the title's message. Integriert Euch Nicht is something of a spiritual successor to last year’s tech/gentrification/real- estate-investment themed Integrier Dich Du Yuppie and a ruffer, more floor-focussed elaboration of the techniques tested on his unterton debut The Least Likely Event Will Occur In The Long Run. Under his Klon Dump alias, Mark has also previously released a psych-mnml double EP called Klon Dump Vs. The Open Air on A Colourful Storm and Two Rooms, a tape of sound art improv and knackered pop-strumentals on Bristol-based imprint NoCorner. Brainchild of Multi Culti A&R, Sascha Funke and Niklas Wandt were introduced by Dreems, who charted a course for the seasoned Berlin-based producer and funky multi-percussionist and singer.
Wandt was just about to enter the scene forcefully with his collaborative 2LP with Wolf Müller and the debut single of his band Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge. In the icey cold of his warehouse rehearsal space, Funke had him record a variety of slapped, bowed and scratched percussions (congas, talking drum, prepared cymbals played with a bass bow) over his tracks. These first efforts were later expanded into joint sessions at Sascha's home studio and, within a few weeks, the journey reached it’s destination: Wibe strasse, Deutschland.
At first glance, they seem an odd couple: a techno veteran of almost thirty years meets a side-burned upstart socialized in Free Jazz and Krautrock. But the shared sonic influences come through in the hypnotic, dubbed-out sound, perhaps rooted in the close connection the two share to the Rheinland region in West Germany, Funke as part of the Kompakt family and Wandt by origin and socialization in the Cologne and Düsseldorf music scene centered around the Salon des Amateurs. Regional flavours, global appeal.

Some things are just not meant to be, but that doesn’t stop them happening anyway, such is the case with Mexican/Canadian punk-techno duo ALI X x XIMENA who unwittingly crossed streams in 2016. In just the past two years the inspired and experienced duo have unleashed a relentless barrage of funky and skewed audio/video bricolage. Their first session together, along with compatriot Theo Magus, produced the single “Let’s Get Naked” for Tiga’s Turbo label, and what followed was an orgy of remixes for labels Nein and Roam, Bottom Forty, Wonder Stories, Phisica and Shara, and reworks and collabs with artists of weird like-minds Nark, Tkuz, Fausto, Shit, and others both esoteric and mainstream.
ALI X is no stranger to the impenetrable darks and blinding lights having taken his former band Azari & III from the streets to the limelight, and his own extensive back catalog excessively demonstrates this, while XIMENA’s vague history only intensifies the strange murk that enshrouds her, at once both fiercely hermetic and violently sociable, her internalized poetic meanderings clash nicely with her gushing DJ performances. When combined, the couple’s punky ‘screw-it’ attitude juxtaposed with a funky troubled lovers vibe provides for challenging encounters rewarded by unexpected leaps of freedom.
The Welcome To My World EP shows the journeys Ali X x Ximena can take you on, from slugging bouts of confusion and disorder to the heart pounding grit of dark and cavernous dance floors, each track on the album from original to remix shows off the cool and independent techno style of Mexico perfectly.

First ever vinyl reissue of this sought-after POST-PUNK / COLD WAVE / MINIMAL SYNTH 12” from 1984, Germany. Days Of Sorrow formed in Dortmund in 1981 by a bunch of school friends influenced by the Post-Punk / New Wave scene. They were William Lennox (vocals, keyboard) André Schreiber (bass), Wolfram Huber (guitar) and Nicolai Sabotka (drums). Soon after, John Tollhaus, who ran a tiny record label (Tollhaus Records), discovered them at one of their rehearsals and impressed from what he heard and saw, helped the band to release their first 12”. “Remembering The Days” saw the light in 1984 and featured four excellent tracks: “Wild World”, “War”, “Travel” and “Don’t Leave Me Drowning”. A perfect mix of post-punk and minimal synth / cold wave. Dark and powerful sound with distorted guitar, minimal synths, drum machines, cold vocals…No wonder this is one of the most sought after minimal synth 12” from the 80s Euro scene. In 1985, Days Of Sorrow signed a deal with Rough Trade and after some line-up changes and a couple of releases, the band split up just before a scheduled Spanish tour.
