Highly anticipated would be an understatement - so influential are his releases to date, it's difficult to believe he's never released a full length project. The name of the mixtape may already be familiar - an evolution from 2019's acclaimed "Slipping" EP and also the name of a Joy Orbison curated radio station ("Still Slipping: Los Santos") within Grand Theft Auto's immersive world - but in terms of scope and ambition, "still slipping vol.1" is without doubt O'Grady's boldest and most expansive project yet.

First coming to prominence in 2009 with his debut single “Hyph Mngo” - a track that became a bonafide phenomenon and changed the dance music underground forever - the London musician, DJ and producer is undoubtedly one of the most renowned, respected and influential electronic artists of his generation. Whether through his own game-changing releases such as “Ellipsis”, “GR Etiquette”, “Big Room Tech House DJ Tool-TIP!” or the “Slipping” EP, collaborations with the likes of Mansur Brown, Overmono and cutting edge Japanese clothing label Cav Empt, a run of genre-defining releases on his Hinge Finger label, a BBC Radio 1 residency and live appearances that span the most credible underground nights to festival headline slots around the world, the name Joy Orbison has been a constant byword for understated, uncompromising quality. "still slipping vol.1" is the next evolution in his journey. Fans of Joy Orbison's DJ sets and radio shows will already be aware of his diverse tastes and inspirations, represented here through a roll call of delicately curated, mainly UK, collaborators that include Herron, James Massiah, Bathe, Lea Sen, Goya Gumbani and Tyson. Just as important are the voices Joy Orbison's family - mum, dad, sister Sarah, uncle Frankie, uncle Keith (recently departed), auntie Helen and cousins Lola, Mia and Leighann, who was the first person to introduce O’Grady to drum and bass and garage as a kid and stars on the mixtape’s cover art. They appear throughout the record via a series of voice notes, his only contact with his family during this year of worldwide lockdown and an intimate, vicarious glimpse into the personal world of an artist who has generally side-stepped the public gaze. The result is Joy Orbison's best music to date and a powerful distillation of his musical career so far. Recorded in his Walworth Window studio in south east London, this is serious, future-facing sound system music cut through with a sense of warmth and playfulness much needed for these times. In O'Grady's own words, "I made a point of making it feel really human. I wanted it to be quite light hearted and humorous so that the weirder bits of the record didn't seem too wanky or self-indulgent. In my head it’s a soul record but I'm not sure that's how people will hear it”

Nun erscheint endlich sein erstes Mixtape „still slipping vol. 1“, das beweist, dass er auch in 2021 nichts an Relevanz oder Aktualität verloren hat.

„Heiß erwartet“, trifft es hier wohl, wenn man sich vor Augen ruft, dass Orbison bisher noch kein Album oder mehr als eine EP in seiner Karriere veröffentlicht hat. Der Titel erinnert dabei an die gefeierte 2019er EP „Slipping“ sowie an seinen kuratierten Radio-Kanal „Still Slipping: Los Santos“ in der Grand Theft Auto-Gaming-Welt – gleichzeitig ist dieses 14-Songs umfassende Mixtape die wohl ambitionierteste Veröffentlichung Orbisons bisher und ein Meilenstein in seiner Karriere. 2009 begann diese mit der Debüt-Single „Hype Mngo“, mit der der Londoner Musiker, DJ und Produzent hohe Wellen im Dance Music Underground erzeugte. Es folgten weitere Singles, EPs, Kollaborationen mit Acts wie Mansur Brown oder Overmono, eine BBC One Residency, DJ-Sets und Live-Auftritte in Clubs und bei Festivals auf der ganzen Welt. „still slipping vol.1“ zeugt wie gewohnt von den mannigfaltigen Einflüssen und Strömungen, von denen sich Joy Orbison treiben lässt und rollt den Teppich aus für Kollaborationen mit Acts wie Herron, James Massiah, Bathe, Lea Sen, Goya Gumbani und Tyson. Daneben bietet es einen intimen Einblick auch in die persönliche Welt des Künstlers während den vergangenen Lockdown-Monaten, beinhaltet das Mixtape doch auch einige persönliche Voice Messages seiner Mutter, seines Vaters, der Schwester und Cousinen.

Perfectly capturing the heady atmosphere of the moment, the album melded the wide-eyed mentality of what had become known as ‘Post-Dubstep’ with an open-minded musical sensibility that produced an instant classic. Ten years later, the album is reissued on Hotflush with a bonus disc of the band’s first ever release.

Here's a little story about this release on my label Dubs Galore: "When Muttley sent me this tune I though to myself: "Wow what a nice classic from the golden Dubstep Era", so I asked him when this was released - assuming it was, and he said it never was released. I immediately signed it, knowing it's such a great and timeless tune. I asked Quasar for a remix and here we are now, Dubs Galore 005 coming in STRONG!"

First drop of the year from Xcpt landing in March, introduces the 4th chapter of the Time Horizon saga, delivering six firm contributions courtesy of Pushlock, Eduardo, Marco Segato, Low End Activist and Cel, plus a re-mastered version of “fwd” by 2nd II None, previously released back in 2007.

De-tü return to Infernal Sounds for their 5th outing and this time lay siege to the bootleg/white label XXX series. The follow up to their sold out 'Tried By Tu / Waiting For Jah' which featured as Xxx002 back in 2019 features two heavy hitters.

Gatekeeping' kicks off the A side with a familiar intro, before thrusting you into a frenzy of sample slices, mid-range melodies and a real face-scrunching low-end fusion. It's a classic dance floor destroyer and one that'll be doing the rounds for years to come. 'Mojigao' on the B side takes things in a completely different direction and is more reminiscent to the De-tü sound we all know and love. Textural dubbed out tones and building vocals lead into the drop, before you're plunged into an ocean of reverberating bass, and a progressive synth pattern. You're completely submerged and washed with smooth and soothing bass, while the track takes an even more progressive step to really switch things up. It's trademark De-tü at it's finest.

As with the previous XXX series, the release is vinyl-only (never to be released digitally) and will not be repressed.

One of our favourite artists makes his return to Deep, Dark & Dangerous. The prolifically talented Hypho returns with 6 tracks of pure badness. Brilliantly balanced between minimalism, musicality, quirky uniqueness and big heavy bass. Dingle Bat is quintessential Hypho, including three vocal features from Rakjay, Danko and Megumi Hope.

For the latest Innamind Recordings release, South London duo Traces link up with the 'London City Warlord' Riko Dan.

The sublime three-track EP 'Streetlands' is the follow up to 2022's 'antidawn'. The EP incorporates 35 minutes of transcendent music in three new pieces.

We don't skip cat numbers around here. It was predestined that ENiGMA Dubz would appear on the Duploc050 milestone release. The Birmingham based dubstep don has been working with us since literally the first day of the YouTube channel. Almost 10 years later ENiGMA Dubz is a well established artist and is regularly featured on his home labels Duploc, Deep Dark & Dangerous as well as his very own imprint Morii Records. Where "40 Fathoms" and "Silverback" are sound system shellers, "Earth Giants" runs on a heavier vibe while the digital bonus track "Too Close To The Sun" is a melodious masterpiece. All by all his Duploc050 shows how strongly versatile ENiGMA Dubz' sound is.

It’s great seeing artists remix other artists’ work and putting a new spin on it, but there’s something special about producers revisiting their own work to put an extra spicy flip on solo material. Bringing back a (much-missed) dedication to the purest of basslines, reminiscent of early RSD, Headhunter (or H.E.N.C.H. around 2008, before they went a bit too tear-out), Pinch and the more meditative sides of Skull Disco, new.com has pressed up four very-heavy tunes here, showcasing a more upfront dancefloor depth charge approach, but still sharing a similar meditative style with the Comfortnoise Ploy productions which he shares with Rjega (we have that 12″ in stock here too by the way. It seems only fitting now that, half a decade into their journey, they’re pleased to announce their first long-play release, in the form of the Crimson LP.

Numa Recordings is back again with a heavyweight release for all the grime heads out there: Badman Ting is a proper roadman anthem featuring Killa P, Irah, Long Range (aka Killa’s Army) and XL Mad (member of Numa Crew). The original version sees the four MCs riding a heavy drill riddim with an unparalleled mix of dancehall and grime vocal styles. The riddim, produced by XL Mad himself, is minimal and impactful, combining spooky melodies with distorted 808 bass. All these elements make the whole thing.. a ‘Badman Ting!’

For their next venture, Infernal Sounds welcome debut signing Nova to the fold as he plates up some of his best cuts for the 'Bonafide' EP.

Following an acclaimed EP from Brussels duo The Untouchables, DNO Records stays in Belgium for the next instalment of its global bass odyssey, but offers up a wholly different kind of trip originating from Charleroi.Leading the way are Clearlight & Owl. The pair typically operate together as Glÿph — producing glitchy, modern techstep — but the use of their independent aliases is an early indicator to expect the minimalist experimentalism found in their solo work.

In The Joker EP, Biome shows why he is right at the very top of the game. 4 incredibly made pieces of Dubstep mastery, beautifully put together into the first Deep, Dark & Dangerous release of 2021. Creepy intros, crunchy midbass, crisp and slick drumwork, quirky hooks and crushing sub all categorise this release. Each sample and sound meticulously positioned for maximum effect. Biome has always been the king of making sure everything is in it's right place, less is more, every piece of the puzzle has it's purpose and the whole release is a masterclass in this aesthetic. For The Heads returns with the third installment of their vinyl series welcoming Germany's own Conzi to the imprint with his inaugural solo EP. This weighty 4 tracker is packed with head-down, nose-curling rhythms on both sides, making this an EP not to be slept on. Having featured on respected labels such as Hotplates Recordings and Foundation Audio in the past, and with support from the likes of Sicaria Sound, J:Kenzo, Ternion Sound and many more, Conzi is a name you will be hearing much more from in the very near future.
