Kouslin returns to Livity Sound with a second collection of slippery club tracks after the 2020 Vision E.P. With an emphasis on head-twisting sound design and a detailed line in percussive programming, the London-based producer continues to reach into intriguing new areas without forsaking soundsystem-ready physicality.

The tracks which make up the Patterns E.P. stemmed from a period of personal experimentation, where Kouslin returned to making music for its therapeutic benefits rather than a fixed purpose. The loops and sketches he returned to and expanded upon for this EP bristle with originality at every turn.

There is a continued exploration of dancehall rhythms on ‘King’, while ‘Five Four’ toys with time signatures for a jagged, fast-paced abstraction of techno. ‘Why Don’t You Don’t’ is harder to pin down thanks to its knotty beat and mutant synthesis, and ‘Michael’ flips the script further with an unexpected swerve into pearlescent melodic lead lines – the perfect demonstration of the honest and instinctive approach Kouslin took when making these tracks.

Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

A gardener by day, he shuns the limelight and has always maintained writing music is his secret hobby! Gab002 sees Gimme A Break Records keep things local with a rowdy EP from Leeds-based DJ and producer Beerus. Over the last six months, Beerus has demonstrated his production power through two bodacious releases on Gunfinger Food’s new sub-label, Booty Frooty Records. Fusing UK styles including hardcore, acid and jungle with US staples such as electro, juke and footwork, Beerus has established a playful sound primed for the dancefloor.

‘Feed Me Weird Things’ was Squarepusher’s debut album. Released on 3rd June 1996 by Rephlex Records (jointly run by Richard D James and Grant Wilson Claridge). Tom had previously released the Conumber EP (as Squarepusher) and Alroy Road Tracks (as the Duke of Harringay) on the newly formed Spymania label the year before. The album was preceded by the Squarepusher Plays EP in May of 1996 also on Rephlex. The extra tracks from this EP not on the original album made up the Japanese bonus tracks when it was released there and will be included in our reissue.

The album was a key release for Rephlex and has gone on to be regarded as one of Squarepusher’s best. It marked a time of strong influence and although they wouldn’t have used the term, led to the sub-genre of Drill n Bass.

Tom’s strong jazz influences and virtuoso bass playing come to the fore on this album setting it apart from his contemporaries.

The album including all bonus tracks has been remastered by Matt Coulton at Alchemy.

This will also be the first time the album is available on streaming services.

Since Samurai Breaks took home the award for DJ Mag’s ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ back in 2021, he has been at the forefront of the UK 160+bpm explosion over the last few years. Ravetrx is back on Sherelle & NAINA’s Hooversound imprint, and it’s a real headturner. If the UK artist’s first contribution to the label was unapologetically ‘90s-facing, ‘14 Down The Dip’ is practically legging it back into a muddy field somewhere along the UK’s growing network of motorways. One thing’s for sure—we’re gonna be here all night.

Ravetrx sets the stage with sounds of a single airhorn and distant crowd before launching into a pounding groove. The title track snapshots a rave well underway: fresh off the M1 and checking out the usual suspects: speedfreaks stepping to white-noise kicks, teens screwfacing to rascally rave synths, and someone swaying wide-eyed to those happy hardcore piano lines.

‘Ruff Enuff Stuff’ goes out to the system heads, rolling the EP into jungle tekno via Patois vocals, crisp breaks and subs. But don’t be fooled by these warmer frequencies—on the flip, Ravetrx jumps back into rave mayhem with ‘On A Mission’, amens going head to head with a snarling bassline. From Karma Recordings comes their tenth EP. A massive milestone for the label in these trying times since releasing their first EP in December 2021. It seemed fitting to bring back producer Blame to remix the massive title track Crystals from DJ Ande, the original on Kr002, the Neo EP which was also remixed by Blame. It also seemed the perfect time to cut Neo’s Reality from DJ KOS as a nod to Blame and the superb Neo’s Real Future. The third and final track is Crushed Ribs from DJ Terrace who is becoming a bit of a staple to the Karma Recordings label, being featured on Kr003 and Kr008 as well as projects for the future. Keep an eye on this label, they are slowing down for no-one.
