Rounding out this first round of what we have been calling the Breemixes, we have an absolute stormer of an EP. Worldwide Epidemik is a producer of amazing early style rave so there really was only one person we could think of to remix him and that was a legend in the scene Ron Wells. Ron has been around since the start and produced & engineered under many names such as Jack Smooth and Fast Floor, whilst being one of the pioneers of the jungle techno sound. Next up we have the man behind Cantina Cuts, Dj Jedi, remixing Wislov’s Rave In The Bunker. The original is like an early 1992 track but Jedi has turned all the dials up to the max and result is a late 1992 style track! Finally, we have Sunny & Deck Hussy’s Dreamin’ the Ant To Be remix. DNO welcomes two new signees, Slovenian producer Marka San and UK rapper Axel Holy, for one of the label’s darkest releases yet. The ‘Hidden Knowledge’ EP presents five tracks of dread bass and bad-trip sonics, as the Bristolian MC delivers cut-throat bars with the kind of calm, looming menace of a tomcat toying with its prey.

It was Dedw8, Axel’s horror-touched collab with Split Prophets’ Blanka, that first made him known in Slovenia, prompting Marka San to get in touch about working together. The same sinister vibe that drives that project has spread its tendrils right through the ‘Hidden Knowledge’ EP, from the twisted brass and squirming bass of ‘Where Did You Go’, which drags its feet like some zombified blues track as Axel repeats the titular phrase in his husky drawl, to the equally chilling ‘Classics’— all eerie samples and abyssal lows, with a pitched-down hook and braggadocious bars.

On ‘Patterns’, Axel goes to war, attacking the creeping beat with vicious battle bars and stories of the hustle, while ‘Hidden Knowledge’ sees him flex his vocabulary to take swipes at the powerful, and ‘Robert Downey’ makes his unswerving determination clear over grungy guitar.

Deliciously macabre, with intricate layers and lyrics that’ll have you spotting something new on every listen, yet still heavyweight enough for the dance, this is a match made in the nine circles and we can’t get enough of it.

From a lifetime dedicated to the craft of jungle and breakbeat culture, Yorobi steps up on Sneaker Social Club to deliver her first solo EP. Her prior outing on wax alongside Tim Reaper in 2020 built on years immersed in the scene as a DJ, from her first moves on pirate radio and at underground dances in Amsterdam through to her frequent presence at vital dances like Rupture. She’s worked with the likes of Sun People and dropped heat on labels such as Repertoire, Planet Wax, Parallax and Exit, but now is the time for her to present the full scope of her creative vision across five expansive forays into inventive D&B abstractions, mutant electro and inverted ambient soundscapes.

There are familiar threads detectable in melodic brushstrokes or sharply angled drum edits on these tunes, perhaps calling to mind the most innovative corners of the Logical Progression compilations, a splash of braindance here or a hidden corner of a Photek LP there, but such impressions are juxtaposed with idiosyncratic swerves which make Yorobi’s work entirely her own. Drawing on intensely personal themes through her own rendition of the traditional spiritual ‘Motherless Child’ and indulging her own tangential experiments deconstructing 80s dancehall, reflecting on the limitations of psychology and channeling her inner Aphex, Yorobi runs at the extended play format with an unbound energy which makes for some of the most effervescent, inventive rollers we’ve heard in a long time. If you thought everything that needed to be said in drum & bass had been already expressed through decades of drops, think again.

Skins is a producer/DJ based in Leeds with an active history in dance music that goes back over 10 years. He cut his teeth DJing regularly at the legendary former Oxford nightclub The Cellar. He played here as part of the Subverse Radio collective as well as for other favourite local promoters, alongside a regular radio show on the aforementioned station which he co-founded. After moving to Leeds in 2016, Skins focused his attention on music production and self-released a string of white-label techno EPs which garnered support from artists such as Djrum, Jane Fitz and Mike Schommer of Deepchord. More recently Skins has moved away from the dub techno sound with which he had become associated, with an EP from speed garage newcomers Spin City on heavy rotation with DJs including Evan Baggs, Andrew James Gustav and Sugar Free. His latest explorations have found him returning to the futuristic jungle stylings which originally drew him into the world of electronic music in his teens. Whether it’s in the studio or behind the decks, Skins draws on a wide range of influences from hip hop, deep house and techno through dubstep and grime to jungle, with a preference for playing vinyl over three turntables. He has performed alongside the likes of Willow, Batu, Answer Code Request, Levon Vincent and Ben UFO.

Opening track 'In Toom' launches a satellite straight into deep space, picking up transmissions from an unknown source. The track deploys alien electronics and other-worldly vocal snippets, building a curious and ghostly atmosphere. Bass lures heavy around the mid-way point creating an increasing sense of unease, as unidentifiable objects head straight for earth. The aptly titled 'Desperately Seeking Summer' is a giant leap toward the good times ahead. You can sense its energy in the air; the smell of freshly cut grass, the charcoal from a newly lit BBQ and the coastal breeze on a warm summer's day. Summer is almost here and we could all do with a serotonin boosting elixir.

The B-side opens with 'Voices' as candy-floss vocals topped with xtra sugar taste even better with every play; while ascending basslines and frenetic drums join hands to produce that FFF energy we all know and love. 'Full of Light' provides tranquility at the end of a wild ride, as shimmering synths shine with radiant bliss with the power to transcend "bathed in light and lifted in what I can only call another dimension."

Following the release of his deep and introspective nameless mini album on Footnotes earlier this summer (which was his first solo release is almost three years), Luke Beavon continues this sudden spate of proliferation with four timeless soulful D&B grooves on the label that played a huge role in his development… Spearhead. A link that goes deeper than many might think, Steve BCee and LSB have supported each other from the off: Spearhead was one of the earliest labels to sign and champion LSB productions and played a big role in LSB’s discography and sound before he joined the ranks at Soul:r. But a few years before that, LSB was also a major influence for BCee as he was the first DJ to play and test out BCee’s productions at a night called Bounce in Norwich. Madison, Wisconsin producer Sam Link exploded onto the breaks circuit with his debut EP on Prague-based record label Yuku - exploring classic underground jungle and juke templates and stretching them into new and distinct formats - and now the emerging artist readies four varied cuts of stylish, club-ready breakbeats and bass on Low Battery.

With one gun-finger fixated on the past and the other firmly pointing to the future, Sam implements a unique form of production within his work. Holding down a full-time job as an artist is never easy, so Sam now works in 20-30 minute bursts, capturing the creative spurts and happy accidents, and allowing space between creation to allow ideas to breathe.

Ragga-tipped jungle at break-neck pace kicks things off on 'The Breath'; a cut of vortex-breakbeats that strikes a fine balance between meditative and energetic, like all great ragga-inspired cuts should. 'Uproar' lowers the tempo slightly in favour of stretching basslines, underwater-wubs and murky atmospherics on a growling cut of breaks that transatlantically shatters over the UK-sound.

'Chance' puts the emphasis on 'less is more'. Leading with the unreleased Dead Dred '95 Dubplate which was considered a 'lost Dat' until it was recently unearthed amongst the archive of masters in Sub Base storage. Back in 1993, Aston was the one half to the Suburban Base act 'Rap and Aston' as well as part of 'Engineers Without Fears' and earlier 'The Blapps Posse', he then went on to form the hugely successful group 'The Freestylers'. He produced for artists such as Rebel MC and created some of the Sub Base classics which include Vertigo, More Time, Jeopardy and is now back with a brand new release of old skool inspired bangers to launch a new era of Boogie Times Records.

First up Aston introduces Pirate Jams with the the stunning ‘U Know The Score’, from the very first old skool lead stab and catchy vocal you know that here is a tune from a master of their craft, with all the years of experience and success condensed into one tune to make the definitive early 90's vibe with and updated twist. This has instant classic and future anthem written all over it, fingers crossed we get out and about to hear this at raves across the summer.

Next up is '4evr' alongside Quicklung, a bolder driving piece of old skool inspired genius, from the early days of rave almost an 89/90s Belgium import vibe to it for those that 'Know The Score' as the A side says!

London based newcomer Bartholomew Kind combines deep emotion with disjointed rhythms on his debut release. Breaks 'N' Pieces Vol.7 opens with the sparse, emotive drum & bass of Memento while Sweetheart follows suit with rolling drum breaks lined with melancholic pads & yearning vocal samples. Sapien Beat takes the tempo down to a 2-step rhythm without compromising on poignancy. Opening the flip, Would You Do That To Me morphs from a halftime dancehall-inspired stepper into tearout jungle. The breaks continue on the UK hardcore influenced Feelz while Get Well Soon is a minimal, atmospheric builder closing the record with a message of hope.
