‘High Fives & Devil Eyes’ is the brand-new LP forthcoming from SCAR, a duo who’ve spent years dominating the waters of dance music with their formulae of underground, yet accessible drum & bass. Individually and as part of their SCAR project, both Script and Survival have been involved in shaping the genre for decades, helping to sculpt its formative years alongside a range of imprints that have ensured it longevity. For their forthcoming album they’ve once again been welcomed into the fold of Metalheadz, where SCAR have now been exclusively signed after appearing in their catalogue as one of its main staples. Since their first piece of music together, ‘When’, debuted on Metalheadz via the label’s esteemed ‘Platinum Breakz’ series, through to their first SCAR artist LP ‘The Orkyd Project’ in 2016, the pair’s journey has followed the label’s growth and they’ve continued to be supported by its founder Goldie. "The Opposites" strongly relies on the contrast between melody and extremely energetic percussion, tied together by the voice of a girl who wonders how close two people can get without triggering "their crazy". The track's friendly atmosphere almost makes it a Crossbreed love song of sorts. The much harsher flip side of this release entitled "More Primitive" deals with a different kind of issue: what happens when people get pushed hard, forced to act on instinct... the moment their true, often damaged, selves are revealed. The seventeenth release on One Seven Five is proof that The Outside Agency still has a lot more tricks up its sleeve, showing the world what Crossbreed is all about.

Taking inspiration from the open spaces, noise, and density of his adopted city Copenhagen, Perko follows up the acclaimed ‘NV Auto’ EP with new music that yields maximum impact via minimalist principles.
Across the record’s eight tracks, rhythms are reduced to their most essential components. There is no wastage, just pure precision and skeletal funk juxtaposed with microscopic melodies. Embedded across the entirety of the release are the sounds of the city. Listen carefully and you’ll hear recordings of his friends and their local neighbourhoods, with the city becoming a bed of sound.
‘Stutter’ melts these influences into quick-footed vaporous electro. On ‘The Reason’ Perko strips away the CSI synced excesses of drum n bass and synthesises percussion from samples of Stevie Williams skating at Love Park.
‘Grounds’ is a collaboration with Australian DJ / Producer Lia T, and stems from an exchange of field recordings between the two. These recordings became the core of the track, before Lia laid down additional synths. This all bleeds away into ‘Luna’, which connects gently cascading melodies to the urban landscape.
The record closes with ‘Pippin’, which comes in two versions. The grime concrète of the ‘Version’ oozes feelings of creeping dread and nightmarish bass stabs. The original takes the stabs and merges them with his take on the steppers’ riddim.
In Perko’s world, introspective and breakneck electronic music share the same space, mirroring the complexities of the city around him.

A slowed down tribute to the dichotomy of mellow/heavy in mid 90's Jungle/Drum n' Bass, "The Shining Wall" begins with eery pads and a forlorn siren call, gently driven along by a subtle amen groove. Midway through, things turn more aggressive with distorted break switchups and a smattering of mentasm for good measure, before coming full circle and leaving you with a warm but somewhat uncertain end. B - Sgt. Risk - Weaponized Soul The flip is a more ominous affair, inspired by the short transition period ca. '96, just before techstep became a defined term. "Weaponized Soul" sets the mood with foreboding pads, until it drops into a relentless barrage of industrial beats and a cavernous sub. In the midway breakdown everything drops away, clearing the stage for a monstrous, swarmlike synthriff. Both of these tracks where never meant to be "conceptual tributes", but just ended up that way. A is fairly new, while B is the umpteenth version of a ten year old tune. Big up the Dolphin Man for convincing us to put them out together.

2nd pressing on black vinyl! Ital Tek (a.k.a. Alan Myson) returns to Planet Mu with his sixth album ‘Outland‘. The album was written during a period of new beginnings following a move out of the city to a quieter space and the birth of his first child. During this time of self-imposed isolation Alan recorded a huge amount of source material and spent weeks and months sitting up at night with his newborn, listening back and making notes on how the new record should take form, focusing and developing ideas to shape this lean ten-track album. Alan talks of the record being a collaboration between two parts of himself, something that definitely comes across as the album unfolds. Textures are something Alan excels at and on his last album, the largely beatless ‘Bodied’, it felt as if he was building a new sound-world. On ‘Outland’ he expands upon this. The album brings together the extremes of Alan's sound, contrasting roughened bass and beats with starker more detailed atmospheres and emotions. The most beat-driven song here is ‘Deadhead’, with its gnarled bouncing bass, angular distorted melodies and cavernous textures. On tracks like ‘Bladed Terrain’ the contrasts are even more defined with buzzing drones and razor sharp drums plunging into a grainy fog, giving the track a dramatic 3D feel. Then there are the stop-start pauses of ‘Leaving The Grid’, where the song evaporates into space before reemerging with shuddering rhythms and ghostly textures. Melodies crawl around these tracks as if they’re just waking up, as heard on the atmospheric ‘Angel In Ruin’. The sleep-deprived fraying of the senses became Alan’s routine and one which he says gave him a renewed creative energy; half-asleep, working through the night, and then into the daytime super-focused but exhausted. Prone to audio hallucinations whilst writing the album, he aimed to capture these distortions in his perception of pitch and time, and you can hear these effects interpreted on tracks like ‘Endless’ and ‘Open Heart’ as melodies phase and slip out of time like an emotional Doppler effect. This is also true of the soaring atonal synths at the peak of ‘Diamond Child’, which feel like the aural equivalent of eye floaters. These intuitive feelings and functions are a difficult thing to capture in sound, but Alan manages it beautifully and always makes the result feel warm and adventurous, heartfelt and epic.

Mark Boombastik is a human beatbox with advanced technics. Early in his career, he added guitar effects and bass synths to his live sets to push his vocal art to a new level. Mark Boombastik is mostly known for his astonishing crossover pop-song "Putzen" which was licensed for german TV shows among other crazy things. Through this novelty hit he caught the attention of the Berlin record label Shitkatapult for which he produced the long-player "Adios Berlin" together with Eduardo Delgado-Lopez. Lesser known but extremely sought after are his releases on Meeuw Muzak and Gagarin Records. With Gagarin Records chairman Felix Kubin he did countless live and studio collaborations. After a brief release-hiatus, this 7" on Sozialistischer Plattenbau presents two recent tracks. The record comes in a cover that was designed by Hamburg artist Thomas Baldischwyler and printed in 3 punky color-layers with a middle-aged Riso printer on recycled paper.
