‘Iconoclast’ is the debut release from Dolphin Chime, a collective of Scopeotaku, Brollachan and 1/2 of The Three Lives. An EP carved out through a careful process of leaving the studio door open and seeing what enters. With five tracks plus a Lvcchesi version, serving up healthy measures of chaos and magic, all overseen by a friendly elf, existing out with time and space, and lovingly hand stamped onto a usb stane. Turn on and plug in.

Mara MacDonald is a musician and performer from Melbourne, Australia. She released her debut album 'I'm just One Person' as Marara on Jpeg Artefacts in January 2023. She has also self-released two EP's, has received the Signal Sound Commission grant for young artists, and is known for her chaotic, confessional live performances. Brad Rose of Foxy Digitales said of her debut: "it feels like I've uncovered some kind of hidden treasure… each word, each sound echoes into forever."

August and June will be available on streaming platforms and limited-edition cassette tape on 27/09/24. Guests include pillar of the Australian noise scene, Uboa, and prolific Portland producer, Kaho Matsui. For fans of: Claire Rousay, More Eaze, Katie Dey, Felicia Atkinson, Elaine Radigue.

The French-British artist calls this idiosyncratic take on ambient country “an album about memories and how we stitch up these moments,” and that comes through in the record’s fragmentary form; its mix of lo-fi tape collages, live-in-the-room performances, and digital mischief feels like a contemporary update of last century’s scrapbooks—pixelated, enhanced, run through the occasional playful filter, but every bit as heartfelt.

Lennon & McCartney. Simon & Garfunkel. Ralf & Florian. Enema & GeJonte. The inventors of modern pop music as we know it. Joining forces in 1988, Orebro duo Kai Parviainen and Jonas Ohlsson put out four cassettes and a split album with Frak under the Enema & GeJonte guise, all teeming with clever and funny electronic pop songs. The sound? Imagine Duet Emmo jamming out with the Residents on a wheat field on Narkeslatten. Or picture early Severed Heads covering lost Philemon Arthur & The Dung tapes. Kai pushes his Sequential Circuits Pro-One synthesizer to its limits while Jonas makes discerning observations on everyday life in a Swedish small town. Mostly sung in Swedish, sometimes in English, but always with a touch of sweet naivety and innocence on par with lo-fi punk/pop geniuses Dan Treacy and Daniel Johnston. Typical song subjects: A friendly game of five-a-side football. The joy of rising at the crack of dawn to get on with the tasks of the day. A bus journey to Odensbacken to savour a semla at a local cafe and some small talk with the gas station manager. All delivered with a playfulness and ecstasy more commonly found on the records with Swedish Christian music Kai so devotedly collects than in contemporary industrial or electronic music. When Jonas moved to Amsterdam in 1996 the boys ceased making music together, leaving behind a treasure trove of unreleased material, some of which appeared on a couple of cassettes in the 00's. But the best stuff has remained buried until now. How dada pop gems like "Joxa med trasan" and "Underground" could dwell in obscurity for thirty-ish years beggars belief. Other standout tracks on this compilation: "Plan 714 till Nyc", a wonderful waltz time instrumental performed in the vein of a drunken Bob Hund, and the En Halvkokt I Folie style cut up experiments of "Gasten Harry". So get ready for a glorious blast from the past, as the Swedish pioneers of the hypnotic groove cordially invite you to a sonic journey as adventurous and memorable as a trip on the lansbuss to Odensbacken. Get on board, grab a seat and enjoy the ride. Liverpool. New York City. Dusseldorf. Orebro. // Ulf Osterstrom

»White Noise« is a cooperation project between raster-media and the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics. Artistic sound projects generated in the context of the scientific research institute will appear at irregular intervals. The themes and questions of empirical aesthetics research are taken up, questioned or challenged in very different ways. »White Noise« is conceived as an audio archive of the Mpiea artists in residence which records the artistic works on vinyl and documents the respective concepts and working methods in text form.

Victioria Keddie’s »Pshal P’shaw« (white noise #002) is a multimedia exploration delving into phonetic expression’s auditory and rhythmic nuances of phonetic expressions through an amalgamation of text, sound, video, data, and customized learning software. Drawing inspiration from the painter and architectural theorist Hermann Finsterlin who made speculative architectural renderings, the project originated during a residency at the Max Planck Institute of Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt in 2023.

Special Edition includes a Cd-r of an interview program with the producers of "Beam Penetration" in 1970. At the end of the program, the Flower Travellin' Band appeared with motorcycles and performed in the studio. Also includes insert with English translation of the interview. Expo 70, held in Osaka, was a pivotal event for the Japanese people and their relationship with the rest of the world, demonstrating both the nation’s ongoing economic recovery from World War Two and the creative spirit of Japanese society and its artists. The event gained international acclaim for its adventurous architectural design, visual art and electronic music. Some of Japan’s most renowned composers were involved, but also present were the now-legendary rockers, the Flower Travellin' Band. A series of performances, billed as “Night Events” were held at the Expo; the most radical of these was "Beam Penetration and Mad Computer, plus the Minimal Sound of Motorcycles”, but its anti-establishment feel and general madness took the Expo organizers by surprise and it was cancelled after only one night, despite being scheduled for a longer run.

An air of myth developed around the event, but a recording of the event has been discovered and this release is the result. And what an event it was: a night-time sound-bomb with a fabled band, electronic sound and 50 motorcycles with horns blaring, spotlights, electronic billboards and a robot ― all flashing, roaring and howling at the night sky. This release comprises a CD, a 10-inch record with fold-out sleeve and large obi, plus fascinating notes in Japanese and English by Kenichi Yasuda, an expert on Japanese rock music, and Koji Kawasaki, a renowned researcher of Japanese electronic music, as well as rare photos.

Tag this as somewhere between “hospital ambient” and “backwoods industrial.”

Shadow World Archive is proud to present The McClintic Chorus, the second full-length LP from Kristen Gallerneaux. The follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut Strung Figures, The McClintic Chorus finds Gallerneaux in world-building mode, crafting a psychogeographic landscape of folkloric Appalachia through sound. Turning her inimitable, idiosyncratic ear to field recordings and sound sources recorded or re-recorded in and around Point Pleasant, West Virginia and the McClintic Wildlife Area's infamous TNT domes, Gallerneaux performs a sort of alchemy, teasing uncanny and unknowable deep-time histories from post-industrial rubble. Transforming the hyper-local and hyper-personal into something that can be universally felt - in your head, heart, and guts. Literally. 'Cause this gear bangs.

The McClintic Chorus is presented as a digital download and as a luxe 2xCD + zine. The second disc includes Where The Whistles Mingle, an album-length longform track only available with the physical release.

But enough from us. Let's hear from Gallerneaux herself: The McClintic Chorus is a 68-minute composition and multimedia performance created from recordings gathered at the McClintic Wildlife Management Area in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. From 1942-1945, this site was known as the West Virginia Ordnance Works or “tnt Area,” in reference to its history as a WWII-era explosives manufacturing facility. Over 720,000 tons of TNT were produced daily on the grounds. A series of concrete “igloo” storage huts were erected and covered with earth to camouflage them from potential enemy aircraft. These structures are the only architectural clues that remain of this landscape’s former life.

In November 1966, the TNT Area received attention in local newspapers as the place where a mysterious 6-foot-tall, winged humanoid with red eyes known as “Mothman” was first spotted. A flood of reports connected to the TNT Area described Mothman’s penchant to silently glide alongside cars and interfere with telephone calls by emitting shrill blasts of tinny static, beeping, and electronic pulses. Today, many paranormal seekers visiting the site believe the cryptid was a “harbinger of doom” who was attracted to the Point Pleasant area to observe or warn of the fatal December 1967 collapse of the town’s Silver Bridge.

The McClintic Chorus is a biography of place—exploring the tenuous collisions between industrial landscapes, ecological redemption, and contemporary legends embedded in rural Appalachia. While producing this work, the complicated oscillations between the bucolic and the vaguely threatening were visibly and audibly palpable. Searching for the overgrown entrances to abandoned ordnance huts—the deafening sounds of bullfrogs, redwing blackbirds, and other wetland wildlife compete with the rattle of gunfire from the nearby range.

Binaural, contact, and stereo microphones were used to capture the powerful echoes from inside and around the TNT domes. Recognizable recordings of these sounds permeate the work, blended with fragments of recordist stomps, gasps, coughs, and voices—which were transformed into several DAW-based drum kits and instruments.

Following on from his 2022 debut release on American Dreams Records, 'Choreographies of Decay', J. Doursou offers a critical reflection in 'The Deafening Veil' of the West's warped relationship with war in other regions.
The Deafening Veil has early support with reviews confirmed with Mojo Magazine, Headphone Commute (single premiere), A Closer Listen, and Noise Narrative. A writer from Quietus is also pitching to editorial with a review TBC. Doursou began the creative process of the album when Russia invaded Ukraine. The album's lead single, 'song for Elena', is a tribute to Doursou's close friend from Ukraine. The rest of the album critiques the silence that surrounds war in other regions.
