Cleaning a record collection can be tiresome. There are many ways to de-dust your precious collection. All of them have one thing in common, you have to clean the records while they are put at rest. The 2M Series is developed in conjunction with the Danish Industrial designer Møller Jensen Design – the same designer who designed the award winning MC Jubilee and Kontrapunkt series. Inspired by the facets of a diamond, whose contours gracefully trace the grooves on a record’s surface, the 2M’s handsome elegance establishes a great combination of form and functionality.

The name 2M was selected from among several ideas. We wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and remember, and therefore an alphanumerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet.

Of course the 2M isn’t just another pretty face. It has been engineered to the highest standards and is congruent with Ortofon’s unrelenting commitment to providing the most precise and accurate reproduction possible without coloration.

The 2M series of cartridges features Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.

We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M Series provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.

History
The history of vibration needle cleaners goes back to the 1970s. There were devices from various companies which, at high frequency, transmitted through a liquid, detached the contamination of the needle. After the release of the CD and falling turntable sales in the 80s and especially in the 90s, these devices disappeared from the market. Unfortunately for many record listeners, this was not reissued due to the high cost. FLUX-HiFi took up this idea with the SONIC and developed the technology anew. The result is fantastic!

The cleaning
The stylus is the primary component in the playback process. The movement by which tension is later induced arises here. The goal is to exactly follow the groove in the micrometer range. In order to achieve this perfectly, the manufacturers of pickups make great efforts. However, if the needle is dirty, the diamond , no matter how polished and ground it is – cannot exactly follow the deflection. It reacts too early or too late, distortions occur. Even supposedly clean records are covered with dust, partly visible, partly invisible in the groove. It contains particles of silicates, polymers and organic matter. These stick to the needle due to the high temperature during the scanning process. How quickly this happens is in Fig. 1. Already after playing a record side, almost nothing is recognizable from the needle in front of dirt. Figure. 2 shows the needle after cleaning with a normal, dry needle brush. Fibers are removed, but the encrustation remains. Only an aggressive liquid cleaner provides a reasonably cleaned surface of the diamond, see fig. 3. However, since these cleaners can attack not only the glue of the diamond, but also, above all, the sensitive rubber parts of the suspension of the needle carrier, caution should be exercised here. Figure. 4 shows the needle after applying the Flux-Sonic. Without attacking parts of the pickup, the result is excellent. The needle shines in a new splendour. (Fig. 1-4 )

The technology
The principle of action is similar to that of an ultrasonic cleaner from dental technology or an ultrasonic bath for spectacle lenses. A strong high-frequency vibration ensures a cleaning of the surfaces. Some substances, such as aluminium, are damaged by ultrasound treatment. Even if the diamond were perfectly cleaned, the glue nubs and the suspension of the needle carrier would be damaged, as would the use of aggressive liquid cleaners.
The FLUX-Sonic vibration cleaner, on the other hand, operates at a low frequency. The circuit and mechanics are designed to have a three-dimensional vibration on the needle, ensuring that any dirt particles are removed. The frequency is precisely tuned in such a way that damage to the adhesive or suspension is excluded – but the cleaning result is maximum. The deflections are far from the values of the actual sampling. The movement of the needle thus corresponds only to a fraction of the load of the play-off process.
A liquid is required to transfer the vibration from the device to the needle. This has an additional, gentle cleaning effect and is produced on an isopropanol basis. After application, it evaporates without residue. Flux fluid is applied on a specially designed pad made of the finest PE fibers. Already these fibers produce a capillary effect, which is very similar to the effect of a liquid, due to their number and the resulting density. In combination with FLUX-Fluid, the result is a perfect combination that transmits the vibration and absorbs the dirt at the same time. The application is recommended before each play.

The result
The cleaning process takes only 15 seconds, then the optimum is already reached. The scanning capability of the pickup system is improved. Less abrasion also increases the lifespan of the needle. Scanning noise is significantly minimized. Soundfully, the difference is outstanding. Both distortions and annoying side noises have largely disappeared. Playback has become much more dynamic and enjoyable. Unpleasant tips are no longer present and even the largest controls are rendered without distortion. The frequency range seems to be extended, especially in the bass and altitude range. As well as cleaning the needle, the cleaning of the record is of course also very important. Make sure that records are as clean as possible. A Flux-Hifi device is already in development.

All Ortofon cartridges have a colour coding of the terminals, indicating red and green for right channel respectively hot and ground terminal. White and blue for left channel respectively hot and ground terminal. Green terminal will always be used for grounding the cartridge housings or motor-system, whenever connected inside the cartridge.

We recommend to connect lead wires to the cartridge and headshell before mounting the cartridge on the headshell.

Please remember correct orientation of the leads. Ortofon cartridges' terminal PINs diameter is 1.2 mm, whilst Ortofon headshells' PINs diameter is only 1.0 mm.

AUDIO-TECHNICA’S INTERNATIONALLY-PATENTED DUAL MAGNET DESIGN REPLICATES THE STRUCTURE OF THE CUTTER HEAD.
Instead of using a single, large magnet, the two magnets are arranged in the shape of a "V". The two magnets are positioned precisely to match the positions of the left and right channels in the stereo groove walls. Para-toroidal generating system

Para-toroidal coils improve generating efficiency and offers superb linearity, since leakage of magnetic flux in this continuous and unitised magnetic circuit is low. Permeability of the cores is also optimised through the use of laminated cores.

A permalloy centre shield plate enables the effective separation of left and right channels, suppressing electrical crosstalk to below 40dB. This is similar to the actual crosstalk value found in the grooves of the record itself.

The new Clearaudio Turntable Vinyl Harmo-nicer mat: A genius development to improve any turntable sound quality.

This new turntable mat, made out of pure vinyl, will improve the contact between the platter surface and the LP. Every LP-record will sound more dynamic and more authentic. More balanced sound at low frequency and higher definition at middle and high frequency. This is possible becouse of the fact, that the vinyl Harmo-nicer mat is made from pure vinyl and has therefore identical speed propagation velocity as a LP. Tehe overall vibration energy - coused by tracking process - is trasfered with no reflection to teh platter.

The bottom surface of the Harmo-nicer mat is absulutely flat and polished. the top surface of Harmo-nicer mat has a special surface structure, which ensures maximum contact points to the LP-record surface than a regular platter surface.

Highest performace will be achieved if you are using the Clearaudio Outer Limit, Clearaudio Locator and a Clearaudio Record Clamp (e.g. Clever Clamp). The AT-LH11H is a universal ½"-mount aluminum headshell that weighs only 11 grams – the lightest in the LH series – allowing it to be used with a wider range of cartridges on more turntables and tonearms than the other models.

With its non-threaded through-holes, the AT-LH11H is ideal for mounting cartridges with threaded mounting holes, such as the AT-OC9X, AT-ART9X, and VM95 Series cartridges. The Goldring philosophy is to promote the accurate replication of the original record production, maintaining the creative nuances, musicality and rhythm the artist intended you to hear. With the versatile E Series, this is easy to achieve; each is designed to be simple to fit to the majority of budget to medium priced turntables.

The E2 cartridge, the middle in the range, features the same spherical stylus profile as the E1 but with the additional benefit of an upgraded aluminium cantilever. This is both stiff and light weight allowing the stylus to more accurately trace medium to high frequencies offering more detail and reducing distortion and mis-tracking during loud passages.

Magnetic Duplex Technology™
All cartridges in the range feature Magnetic Duplex Technology™-a 'dual magnet' generator assembly with an identical geometry to that of the original cutting head. This means it can more accurately reproduce the stereo information in the record groove, providing better channel separation and a more involving and musical sound stage.

Expert Adjustment
The E-series cartridges have been designed to allow micro-adjustments to be made during production using a special adjustment screw. This means the cartridge can be safely installed in a typical turntable because the angle that the stylus makes with the record surface has been pre-set. The 10 inch record has a long history dating back to 1947 and offered exclusively by Columbia Records at the time. The 10 Inch Record was revolutionary in that it offered a chance for labels and artists to present more songs on a single platter than previous iterations. The 10 inch record was originally marketed as a 'Long Playing' or LP record and reigned supreme until about 1954 with the advent and popularity of the 12 inch Record. Still and all, this proud slab of wax continues to live in hearts and bins of many collectors.

The 10 inch record is often offered as a unique keepsake for fans and a chance for an artist to release a superior sound quality recording when cut at 45 rpm. Deep uncrowded grooves!
