Volume 8 of our ongoing Luv N’Haight Edit Series is our biggest one yet! Featuring another helping of Kon with co-headliner Ohmega Watts, taking turns remixing and reimagining another Twilight classic. Supplied with the original stems culled from master tapes provided by Twilight’s own Lawrence Ross, Kon’s remix transforms the original into a mid-tempo boogie-house jam. The deep, minimal intro gives way to a swinging groove with the chorus interspersed in perfectly to sync with the tune. Also included is a dub version that’s a bit more stripped down giving the groove a bit more room to stretch out. Ohmega Watts’ title for his remix is apropos as it’s the type of song to get a house party jumping. With a classic 4 on the floor house beat accompanied by a groovy driving bassline, it’s definitely guaranteed to shake your hips and move your feet!

New Zealand based crate digger Frank Booker invites good friend Julien Dyne to drop the second release on his new imprint Down In the Basement.
JD picks up where The Man Called Booker left off on Vol 1 and gets straight up to speed cutting up rare boogie, disco and Afro jams and employing his trademark raw cuts in an old school style, while lacing oodles of FX 'n stuff into the mix.

The overall sound is reminiscent of the early Idjut Boys material, which is so close to Mr Booker's heart.

As ever, the next project on Opilec Music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss I-Robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders Ahzz.
This track was first released on Land of Hits, a label run by Peter Brown (who also wrote "Material Girl" for Madonna) and Michael Campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by Opilec Music.
The track, 'New York's Movin'' was huge on the New York disco scene and was played by the likes of David Mancuso at The Loft, Larry Levan at The Paradise Garage and by Nicky Siano at Studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern New York tastemakers Kenny Dope, DJ Spinna, Danny Krivit and his Body & Soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like Motor City Drum Ensemble and Bulljun.
I-Robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical.
‘New York's Movin'' (I-Robots Reconstruction Take I) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums.
A retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. This version is featured on the new I-Robots - Reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year Anniversary release.
‘New York's Movin'' (I-Robots Reconstruction Take II) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk.
This is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves Opilec Music work on only the most special projects.

As with those that preceded it, this one's a vinyl-only 12" of... indeterminate provenance. Behind every Schatzi ditty is a dash of homespun crate-digging mischief, a dollop of crunchy, swinging drum loops, and a determination to inject into the tropes of today the carefree heart and funky soul that made the dance music of decades past feel so alive. A royal flush of raw, untamed disco that desperately wants off this slab of wax and onto fogged-out dance floors and into strobe-lit basements.

They don’t get much more anthemic than Idris Muhammad’s ‘Could Heaven Ever Be Like This’ and who better to rework it than edit royalty, Late Nite Tuff Guy. Subtle in his touches yet incorporating a more DJ friendly, dancefloor orientated beat and tension building intro which teases elements of this classic before that instantly recognizable bass riff and staccato guitar chords come into play.
That subtlety is key when it comes to handling a record as epic as this, elements are accentuated and looped, delicate effects are woven in but the soul and feeling of Idris’ music is lovingly maintained by LNTG.

The mysterious Love Drop continues his homage to the classic raw sounds of days gone by as he drops an anthemic and pounding slice of House music for Home Taping. Veteran NYC producer and DFA regular Juan MacLean hops on the RNT wagon for a rolling EP of drum-machine driven grooves for the Reserve sub-imprint. The record starts with the peak-time stomper Fine Time, building exquisite tension and release through looped and filtered samples, and then moves on to the boogie-infused swing of Don't Stop For Nothing. Everybody Clap leads off side B with a soulful and string-laden vocal over a bouncing hi-hat-focused house arrangement, and the EP closes out on the dubbier tip with the eponymous Panic In Fort Greene Park, a synthy and smooth slow burner. All around beautifully produced and eminently playable, Señor Maclean has made himself a most welcome addition to the Razor-N-Tape family with this dynamic EP.

Universal Cave provide the goods for the A Side firing off a percussion heavy, Latin flavoured bomb in 'Lambada' - just wait for those epic fills, sure to whip any crowd into raptures. 'Take Your Time (Universal Cave's 909 Rubdown)' then lays up a hip house vocal flavoured, 909 enhanced 80's bomb.

Flip it over and Superprince take the reigns with 'Your Kind Of Love' - funked up disco goodness, reworked with an extra helping of devilishness. The last slice of gold, 'Hang High' takes the tempo down to

He's known as the go to authoritarian for Gospel Soul music, is the compiler of the Divine Disco series on Cultures of Soul and presents his radio broadcast Divine Chord Gospel Show on LA's dublab.com creative hub. And Paulo Fulci is a DJ and producer out of Bristol UK. His work as part of the Situation edit crew has been released and supported as part of the underground for many years….he now spends his days slangin' records, whilst honing his disco scalpel skills in the late twilight hours. Following on from their incendiary slab of two sided gospel goodness 'Born Again' & 'Soul Revival', the Divine Situation duo have crafted the next lot of bangin' spiritualized dancefloor destroyers for your record box. Here we have an EP catering for several sides to your night. The lead off cut is the flat out roof raiser 'The Problem Solver'…..then it's boogified territory with 'Brand New Feelin', before they close out with the end of 'nighter, 'Try Love'. Once again, Moton bringin' the heavyweight platters that matter!

In the Felbm project, Dutch multi-instrumentalist Eelco Topper steps away from his previous synthesiser-laden sounds as Falco Benz, towards a much looser, simpler and sketch-like approach. Picking up a number of acoustic instruments, he began experimenting with a Tascam 4-track tape recorder and allowed these sketches to flourish.
The result is Tape 1 and Tape 2, a two-part project stretching across fifteen tracks - encompassing fluttering piano melodies, subtle jazz drums, rumba rhythms and soothing ambience. The jazz element links back to Topper’s childhood. “I grew up playing drums, switched to playing piano at sixteen and in the meantime I produced hip-hop beats,” he recalls. “I went to study jazz piano at the Utrecht Conservatory, which I finished with pain and effort… I was interested more in electronic and present-day music.”
This mix of being rooted in traditional jazz composition whilst searching for something more contemporary is the perfect encapsulation of these recordings. Tape 1’s jazz roots are palpable and as things move into Tape 2, it takes on a neo-classical, psychedelic soundscape and cinematic quality.

BEPPE LODA is back with OBSCURE ITALIAN SPACE PROG. This is the 2nd release on GAIL FORCE DISCO RECORDS which explores rare tracks that blur the line between disco and prog rock from 70's and 80's Italy.

‘Penthouse Edits Vol. 1’ is a collection of disco edits from Malik Hendricks and Fine Touch. Two dedicated diggers unite through a shared love for forgotten basslines and dusty kicks, reviving classic and unknown disco grooves for modern dancefloors.

Having shared edit duties on Universal Cave’s 10th release, Philadelphia duo Superprince take the reins solo for UC011 with four slices of Philly rework heat. From the soulful Caribbean funk of ‘Mama’ to the syrupy, slo-mo boogie of ‘Rose’, the A side is a sublime double header of slow jams to kick off the e.p. On the B side, Superprince picks up the pace with delicious, private press disco for the dancefloor in the form of ‘Come To Me’, before the dubbed-out balearic bliss of ‘Buy You A Dream’ closes out the affair with a chuggier and cheekier high note.

For the third release on new LA based Pleasure of Love, Dublin’s Mix & Fairbanks deliver tasteful reinterpretations of italo, african house, and rare 80s disco. The Dublin duo have releases on Orange Tree Edits, 045 Recordings, and Hot Digits but have saved some of their best material yet for this 12 Inch.On the A side, the euphoric Azoto rework is a driving disco romp for 'any time or place,' while 'Purple' patiently builds on a hypnotic bass with rhodes and airy leads before a sweet flight attendant lead take off. The 'Bee Side' kicks off with a carefully crafted reimagination of an 80s african house groove with added analog leads and percussion while 'Forever' fills out the release as a peak time disco banger that’s built on the framework of a certain famously unsung disco genius.

MOED is a very special selection of obscure edits, a side project from MOM, based in Barcelona.
The idea of this “DJ USE ONLY” material comes from Da Silva, an undercover label partner and a great collector, who made one of the edits. This EP also features well known producers like Jimi Bazzouka aka Joakim and Pedro Vian, the label owner.
Obscure Edits Volume 1 has a distinct 1980s feel, with each editor breathing new life into their chosen track. The first edit on the EP is PV’s edit Live In Japan. It features powerful synths, tight percussion and as you might expect, Japanese vocals. Next up is Da Silva’s version of My Man. This edit sees layered synths and a bassline provide a wonderful groove, where they are joined by heartbroken vocals. Finally, we have Jimi Bazzouka aka Joakim’s take on Somerset Hills. Here, a playful flute with an eastern feel is laid over strong keys and adaptable percussion. This is a strong selection of edits, which are ready for the dancefloor

Two of the world's most seasoned disco editors, Michael The Lion and Jay Airiness have renewed their Franco-American alliance for another split-sided EP. The long-time friends and collaborators were last seen together dropping gems in 2016, and now they've reunited for a double-barreled sure-shot DJ-crate sure - four diverse cuts for all times of night.
Philadelphia-based Michael, best known for his work with Soul Clap Records and Razor-NTape, lets loose on the A-side with two secret weapons from his DJ sets - the aggressive, anthemic disco funker "Direction NYC" and the loopy burner "Don't Know”.
Jay, one of the hardest working producers in France is fresh from new efforts with his famed Venice Beach and DJ Moar projects. Jay brings a live session of jazz horns and woodwinds to the fore with “Jazzy Mind”. On “Disco Dance”, he rides a tight piano groove right out of the canon of French disco onto the modern dancefloor.

Washington based Better Listen Records drop their first VA e.p. housing four disco influenced dancefloor workouts bringing a slice of sunshine to our shores.
Folamour kicks things off with an uptempo disco stomper, complete with driving bass, infectious string hooks and energetic piano stabs. The A2 sees Ethyene slows things down combining choice vocal snippets, shuffling rhythms and sleezy synthwork to create a sunset groove ready made for the summer.
On the flip Ari Bald draws on all the elements from a classic disco anthem, with brass stabs, slap bass and an uplifting guitar riff driving things forward, before Dorsi Plantar closes things out with a blissful boogie simmerdown perfect for any sunrise set.

Seatbelts fastened, Delorean fired up, it’s round two of Loveface’s De Mix series of releases. Providing you with three shimmering, ‘80s electro boogie workouts, guaranteed to seduce any tentative souls or shy shufflers to the dancefloor.

Gator Boots returns… On the A side, Roy deeply flipped and reinterpreted with underground appeal for the discerning DJ. On the B side, an absolute Wonder classic. Rounding it out 'Send a Letter', expanded and splashed out with lush pads, warmth and a lil' drum machine flex to boot!

Side A. Reuban Wilson "We're are in love" sample flip sets the tone for Nas Memory Lane (Sittin' in Da Park) sampled and chopped by 1 only. DJ Premier sampled multiple elements from Wilson’s original composition, including the organ, percussion and distinctive wordless backing vocals. The seldom-sampled track is now irrevocably tied to this classic East Coast jam. Galaxy crew decided to give it a Re mastered rinse, chop up the intro break to back to life for 45 fans to appreciate.

The latest from Mr. K and Most Excellent Unlimited pairs lowdown and stomping disco from an unlikely source with a funked-out floorfiller from some very familiar voices. Minnie Riperton’s 1977 single “Stick Together” was an outlier in her catalog of smooth modern soul, an intentional nod in the direction of the prevailing disco sound. Co-written with Stevie Wonder, “Stick Together” in its original single release was divided into two parts, the first a fairly conventional uptempo cut with all the catchy qualities you’d expect from Stevie and the husband and wife team of Richard Rudolph and Minnie. It was the second half of the song that caught the ears of DJs who played for funkier dancefloors, however. Freddie Perren, a former member of Motown’s legendary Corporation collective of songwriters and producers, and a man then red-hot off his success with Tavares’ “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel” and the Sylvers’ “Boogie Fever,” was on production duties, and the song clearly benefits from his disco-friendly touch. In Mr. K’s epic edit we are treated to a lengthy exploration of the second part of “Stick Together,” featuring keyboardist Sonny Burke (veteran of Marvin Gaye’s band and fresh from playing on Candi Staton’s disco smash “Young Hearts Run Free”) working out an irresistible Jingo-esque piano part, Riperton’s sensual ad-libs, and, as if that wasn’t enough, a cameo appearance by Pam Grier on finger snaps! Krivit’s 8-minute-plus edit passes way too quickly to get enough of the hypnotic groove — rewinds are called for! Our flip side, “Body Language,” originated as an album cut on the Jackson Five’s last album of original material for Motown, Moving Violation, recorded before Jermaine left to go solo and the remaining brothers joined Epic Records in a new incarnation as the Jacksons. For such an obvious heater it’s puzzling why the label never released it as a single; but regardless of that apparent misstep, “Body Language” has long been a sure shot in many DJs’ bags. With his new edit, Mr. K presents the track in its ultimate form, loud, remastered, stretched out and rippling with energy over a full six minutes. With an iconic bass line that just doesn’t quit, and Michael and the boys in fine form, it’s impossible to imagine a situation where this wouldn’t set the room on fire.

What a Serve! First release, straight ace. While the longline passing shot on A will for sure burn down every dancefloor with its funky disco groove, B returns a glossy afro disco topspin backhand. Game, set, match

Pantai People head honcho Marc Roberts is back again following his stormer of an EP for Echo Beach Edits Vol. 2. It is Happy Hour, every hour for Volume 3, two shots of firepower for the price of one. First up to the table ‘Whisky Dangers’, a romping disco cut infused with a funk fuelled bass groove, fresh faced vocal and a string supplement to make you weak at the knees.
