Born in 1943 in Ikole-Ekiti in Ondo State, Nigeria, Orlando Julius Ekemode (“Orlando was really a nickname, taken from the Nigerian actor, Orlando Martins“) had started in music from an early age, becoming the school drummer and learning flute, bugle and other instruments at St Peters Anglican School in Ikole-Ekiti. Nigerian musician, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he is credited as one of the first musicians to fuse US R&B into traditional highlife music, creating his own influential Afrobeat sound during the mid-‘60s.
From his time playing in the USA during the 1970s onwards, he is credited with bringing African music to a broader audience and famously co-composed the song “Going Back To My Roots” with Lamont Dozier. In 1978, Orlando Julius Ekemode decided to produce himself this amazing session, originally recorded between Maryland and West Virginia (USA) and released in limited quantity in Nigeria by the obscure label Jungle Records. 6 stunning Afro-Funk monster tracks, recorded by 8 musicians based in Oakland.

The band's guitarist uses a self-made double-handled guitar and reed instrument, which has become a symbol of the band in concerts. South Asian New Wave. Four words that you will rarely see together. Pinky Ann Rihal were the brainchild of two London-based Punjabi immigrants and progressive rock musicians – Harry Rihal and Jati Sodhi – at a time in the U.K. when progressive rock musicians were almost exclusively white and Punjabi musicians were almost exclusively making Bhangra. Encouraged by their friend and disco pioneer Biddu (yes, that Biddu!), they cut ‘Tere Liye’ – a one-off Hindi-language New Wave album with producer John Hamilton and vocalists Pinky Rihal (married to Harry) and Anne Barrett (married to John). It is an album that exemplifies the cultural collaboration and musical synthesis of the time. Complementing the rich, cosmic and layered synths and drum programming of Hamilton and the distorted guitars of Rihal and Sodhi are the Hindi lyrics of vocalists Pinky and Anne. Originally released by Lombardoni Publishing on 1986, this is probably one of the hidden gems from the label. ‘Indio’ contains all the elements of italo disco classic tune: Super energetic mood, male + female vocalist and different leads to complete a great tune.

Originally released on Discomagic in 1988, probably it’s one of the last italo disco classics tracks from the 80s. The track was composed by Fred Ventura (not performed) and Gianfranco Bortolotti (Media Records).Very energetic track with a unique structure in its genre, more clubby than an italo classic track. A unique fantastique lead melted into a likely trancy bassline. Dub version a bit more clubby on b-side.

Beside the original 2 tracks from the release, we added Dub Mix (previously unreleased on vinyl) and Shuttle Mix, a version exclusively made from Zambelli and Verdi (original producers of the track) for ZYX. "downt" is a three-piece band formed in Tokyo in 2021 by Yui Togashi (Gt/Vo), Takaaki Kawai (Ba) and Tener Ken Robert (Dr). Influenced by kind of post-hardcore and math rock brought to the world by 80-90s American labels such as Dischord Records and Ebullition Records, their delicate yet developed performances with a sense of urgency brought about by complex guitar phrases, and songs are written with an outstanding sense of melody and emotional words which is making the band can stand beyond categorize of music style. The songs are written with superb melodies and emotional language that sets them apart from other artists. Togashi's gently and sharply impassioned vocals also help to express their stance with genre-defying music and spirituality.

The 10" ep, released ahead of the new album, will include the epic '13th Moon', an over 8-minute track that was created to break new ground as a band. This is a song that gives you a sense of strength that gently pushes you back in the uncertain haze of everyday life that seems to go on forever. The song opens with drums and ends with layers and layers of water seeping through.The B-side of the record is etched with artwork showing the delicate sensibilities of the band. Their early work was compiled and released as an LP by Dog Knights Productions in the UK though it's no longer available, so this ep is only the vinyl format of downt's release you can get now!

First released in 1987, the songs recorded for "Dreams For Sax" are a beautiful melange of easy-listening electronic and jazzy vibes, from mellow tunes such as "Dawning" and "First Class" to some killer floor-filling italo disco bangers such as "Walking On Air" and "Dance Power". A groovy Italian library banger from the 80's now available on vinyl for the first time since its original release as a limited edition of 500 copies.

The self-titled LP, originally released on Salsoul in August 1981, is one of the greatest albums of the post-disco era. Gathered for the first time and including what can safely be called a holy grail of Gospel music is the very best of Joy, compiled from their albums “I Feel The Spirit” and “The Time Is Right”. Consisting of members of the St. Stephen's Church of God in Christ in San Diego, Joy was a performing Gospel band spreading the word of God throughout the local community and opening for renowned Gospel artists such as Danniebelle Hall, Jessy Dixon and Sandra Crouch. Led by producer/musician Matt Anderson, the two albums were recorded in ’78 and ’83 and feature an impressive array of very talented contributing artists such as bass player Michael-Kae and multi-instrumentalist Clarence Bell, also known for his work with Stevie Wonder and Patrice Rushen. Restored and remastered from the original master tapes, the compilation is available on a high quality vinyl pressing and includes the masterpiece “The Time Is Right” among a collection of lesser known but equally powerful and timeless pieces of music.

A composition done to pay tribute to the Taxi moto of Cotonou .The last track «!Mi Tchinker!» is a typical Stanislas Tohon hit with a mix of Tchink Rhythm , Soul and funky melodies . Stanislas Tohon aka Papy Grande was born in the “Country of the kings” (Benin), in Abomey , December 30 th 1955. He’s “Chevalier de la legion d’honneur” in Benin for his brilliant musical career .The famous soul singer from Cotonou started his musical career at this age of 9, played with the greatest such as Gnonnas Pedro and recorded almost 35 albums. Influenced by the traditional “Tchingoume“ music , he invented his own rhythm called “Tchink Système”, a mix of soul and Beninese traditional rhythm . Sang in Fon, his native language from Benin, this EP is a soulful call for Peace respect and unity in Africa, a real definition of Afro Soul music! lost 80s groover from Bay Area Soulster Fats Gaines is stepping out here with vocalist Zorina London!

Fats Gaines was a jazz musician and orchestra leader born in Kansas, who had a significant presence in the San Francisco Bay music scene from the early 1950s to the first half of the 1980s. He experimented with various musical genres throughout his career, including Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Funk, and Disco, but he always maintained the guiding presence of jazz in his music.

His debut on record occurred in 1952, and although he had a prolific career as a live musician, his discography output was relatively limited and scattered. He recorded only half a dozen singles until 1983, which can be attributed to various reasons, including the volatile nature of the music industry and the difficulty in finding record labels willing to record jazz and other less popular musical genres.

Despite his lack of commercial recognition, Fats Gaines is remembered by many as a talented saxophonist and orchestra leader who significantly contributed to the San Francisco Bay music scene. His music and legacy continue to be appreciated by jazz fans worldwide.

Louisiana born and creed: Zorina spent her formative years in San San Francisco Hunter Point district. She aspired to be an all-around entertainer; though her parents couldn't afford dance lessons, she hung around dance schools until the opportunity arose to show her dancing ability. Soon thereafter, she began dancing with various troupes and graduated as a leading dancer-choreographer for Kemo channel 20's variety program. She also began modelling professionally and won the Top Bay Area Model Award and the Knights of Honor Beauty Pageant in 1972. Also, during this time, she began working at San Francisco's Playboy Club, hoping for more opportunities and exposure. Besides her dancing ability, she exhibited her singing and acting abilities as well, with notables Carol Channing, comedian Prof. Irwin Corey and songstress Randy Crawford.

Currently, Zorina continues her career as a singer, actress, and human rights activist in Taiwan.
