English band Tomcats (who would later become July) spent most of 1965-1966 in Spain, where they played the clubs and released a string of thrilling EPs of feral R&B, collected here along with 1964 demos by The Second Thoughts, their early incarnation. Apart from great versions of then-recent hits by English and American artists, this double LP includes several original compositions and two covers of Spanish songs made popular by the legendary Lola Flores, which The Tomcats turned into wild, fuzzed-out rockers.

This limited edition is a highly collectable for fans of brazilian soul, groove and psychedelia. It's our contribution to pay respect to one of the most important brazilian musicians of the late 60's and early 70's. Main brain of bands like OS Brazões and Assim Assado, he let us an amazing legacy for new generations. This is a small, but more than deserved homage to him, finally. Miguel de Deus was the protagonist of this amazing Afro-Funk movement, together with a group of “heavy” musicians, as they were called in those days of consolidation of a strong Black Power scene, mainly composed of black youth from the outskirts of the suburbs of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, where the movement took the name of Black Rio. Its raw Rock-Funk-Psychedelic-Tropicalia.

After briefly replacing Eric Clapton in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, guitarist/bassist Geoff Krivit formed Doctor K’s Blue Band with pianist Richard Kay and singer/harmonica player Mick Hasse, the lineup completed by bassist Harold Vickers, slide guitarist Roger Rolt and future Steve Hillage drummer Eric Peachey. Their self-titled debut had top-notch renditions of blues classics such as ‘I Can’t Lose,’ ‘Key To The Highway’ and ‘Pet Cream Man,’ as well as spirited originals such as ‘Strobe Lemming’s Lament’ and the piano stomp ‘Crippled Clarence,’ but the album failed to break through. The first three songs show that the band is capable of some killer material – the hard-hitting future classic The Scarlatti Tilt, the backbeat of “Turn It On” and the Beefheart Esque tones to O.B.N. make for guaranteed foot-stompers. “Sweet Time” comes across like Ram Jam‘s “Black Betty” supercharged with simple yet effective song structure. The disc finishes with an appropriately named “Unwind Your Mind”, as I am sure the recording of this album was done in a cloud of smoke. This is a quality release. Heavy Psych and Stoner fans should be all over it. Retro rock with a touch of psychedelic blues, soul and more than enough rock to satisfy metal fans. - Sleaze Roxx

Sandy Bull’s unorthodox approach to guitar was as unique as his personal circumstances. Son of jazz harpist Daphne Hellman and brother to the sitarist Daisy Paradis, Bull became part of the bourgeoning Greenwich Village folk circuit. A move to San Francisco in 1963 found him sharing an apartment with Nubian oud master, Hamza El Din, which had a profound effect on his playing, spurring early world music experiments. The previously unreleased Live In San Francisco features bluesy electric ‘Memphis, Tennessee’ and ‘Instrumental Blues,’ plus the abstract ‘Untitled Instrumental’ and ‘Solo Experimental,’ all classic morsels of Bull wizardry.

Before joining Dick Cuthell in jazz fusion act Trifle, keyboardist Alan Fealdman and drummer Chico Greenwood formed Jasper with bassist Jon Taylor, guitarist Steve Radford and singer/harmonica player, Nick Payne. On sole LP Liberation, released by Spark in 1969, Jasper skirts psychedelia, proto-prog and blues rock, the unusual hybrid a fluid sound that’s difficult to place. Along with unusual arrangements of ‘Baby Please Don’t Go,’ ‘St Louis Blues’ and Donovan’s ‘Cuttin’ Out,’ there are baroque motifs of the title track, repeated at varying intervals. Fully licensed, ltd to 500 copies The sole self-titled album by English progsters Chillum was in fact an offshoot project of famous psychedelic icon Second Hand. They shared three members - George Hart, Ken Elliott, Kieran O'Connor – with the former band, giving birth to a more experimental act. The record originally saw the light of day in 1971. The lp was supposed to be the third Second Hand album, but apparently the members decided to change the band's name. Their heavy swinging approach was in the end similar to such contemporary luminaries like Atomic Rooster, Leaf Hound, and Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come. A jam album with lots of roaring percussion and an impressive organ to make big sound.
