The album release will be preceded by a video for the single " The Strange Dream of My Old Sun" Producer and guitarist Alessandro Santori says about the album: Cosmic Evoked Potentials is a rite of passage, the end of a cicle and already blooming of another. Surely our most instinctive effort so far. We went back to our roots of live recording, this time instead of a stage we chose an old mansion from late '1700 outside Rome. The atmosphere there was so charming and stimulating that 13 minutes of a 45 min long improvisation ended up in the album. We wanted the dynamics and moods of the parts to be the most important thing, taking more time than our usual developing the "story" of the songs.

Born out from the ashes of legendary Florida garage band The Tropics (of “As Time’s Gone” fame), Bacchus was a powerful psychedelic/hard-rock/boogie power trio influenced by Cream, Hendrix, Allman Brothers et al. They only released four rare 45s, collected here for the first time. When Eric Turner (guitarist, vocalist and songwriter), grew into a more progressive form of rock music after a split from The Tropics, he teamed up with fellow Tropics bass player Charlie Souza and drummer Bill Peterson: Bacchus (named after the Roman God of wine) was born. In 1970 they opened for Cactus and Free and after the good response, they recorded their first 45, the fab hard-rock sounding “Carry My Load”. From there they went on tour with Grand Funk Railroad around the state. After more 45 releases, Bacchus was also the opening act for Lynyrd Skynyrd, BB King, The Outlaws, Redbone, Edgar Winter, and Ted Nugent. They also had the privilege to open a Florida concert for Mahavishnu Orchestra and appeared on the free stage at the Atlanta Pop Festival, just before Grand Funk Railroad on the main stage. Famous also in the recent years for appearing on one the famous Brown Acid volumes, a vinyl / digital comp of their complete output was long overdue. Here it is. Play Loud!

In 2019, at a time in which irrationalism seems to be king, with far-right politics enjoying mainstream status worldwide, religious fundamentalists, flat-earthers, and anti-vaccinists testing the limits of freedom of speech, Planet of Zeus return with their highly anticipated fifth studio album, "Faith in Physics" (Heavy Psych Sounds records). Lyrically, this album seems to be Planet of Zeus's most socio-politically conscious release, dealing with themes such as digitalization, religion, social network pseudo-revolution, addiction and lonerism. Musically, it sounds like the band's chosen to take the dirtiest path possible in order to create the highly charged atmosphere needed to get its messages through. 46 minutes of heavy, intellectual riffology and fat grooves, reminiscent of RATM's best days, MC5-esque attitude and energy, coupled with QOTSA's pop sensibilities. An album that flows like water and closes with Planet of Zeus's signature psychedelic last track, that sounds like "the Doors" landing in 2019 Athens via teleportation.

Formed by two Swedish young latent Joseph Merrin and Samuel Andre, who were also schoolmates, Smooth Reunion came into existence on Christmas in 2006. In the following year, 2007, they gained attention among light mellow music fans in Japan with the release of their debut EP, "Scandinavian Bus Mentality."

The core of Smooth Reunion consists of Joseph, who handles guitar, bass, keyboard, and vocals, and Samuel, who manages drums, percussion, and vocals. They complement their sound with a horn section, chorus, and more, creating a remarkably stable and vintage-infused musical experience.

Their music draws its greatest influence from their shared favorite, Steely Dan, particularly the sound of the late 1970s, around "Aja" and "Gaucho." Their music serves as a blend of pop at its core, infused with the smooth essence of jazz and fusion, as well as the introduction of soul and R&B feelings. Previously unreleased ‘72/74 recordings by this US hard rock band!

Blind Willie formed in Spokane (Washington) in 1972 and featured terrific guitar player Frank Trowbridge from hard-psych legends Sleepy John.

They carved out a unique niche in the Northern Idaho/Eastern Washington rock scene in the early to mid-’70s, performing original music in a time when doing so wasn’t widespread for regional bands. Within weeks of the group’s formation, they commanded stages with a potent smattering of hard-rock, country-rock and psych.

The band’s history includes a brief courtship with the Doobie Brothers’ Dave Shogren on bass, as well as major label interest from Columbia and Epic Records.

Here’s the first ever release of their amazing studio demos from 1972/74.

Blind Willie’s original lineup of Craig Karp (guitar, vocals), Frank Trowbridge (guitar), Charlie Bieker (bass, guitar, vocals) and Jim Griffith (drums) is represented via slices of incendiary rock ‘n’ roll pomp recorded on a 4-track tape machine in a friend’s apartment in 1972.

Live in the studio tracks from 1974 feature later drummer Mike Garland and bassist Joe Johnson for a fiery radio set at the legendary Kaye-Smith Studios in Seattle.

The album’s selected tracks navigate Blind Willie’s wide-ranging sonic explorations, anchored by formidable guitar-forward rockers that stand the test of time, and hold up to any of the more well-known work of their peers from the ‘70s. Writhing in the rock ‘n’ roll milieu, Blind Willie’s musical tributaries run deep, steeped in a spectrum of styles that range from hard blues-rock scorchers like the incendiary “Georgia,” to heartfelt ballads (“I’m Wondering If”) and into the upper echelons of sci-fi psych (“Zolly”), a comet ride through wah-wah geetar spacedust, replete with Rocky Horror cinematic sheen. It’s also easy to imagine songs like the choogle-heavy “Somebody Help Me” illuminating the vibe of parties, bars and theaters all over North America.

Recorded in 1970 but never released at the time, featuring future members of Roky Erickson’s backing band Bleib Alien / The Aliens.

Formed in Austin in the late 1960s by visionary lyricist and autoharp player Billy Bill Miller and his friend Tom McGarrigle on guitar, Cold Sun evolved from a band called Cauldron (later Amethyst) which at one point featured drummer John Kearney from Roky Erickson’s first band The Spades. Miller, a proto-Goth figure always dressed in black, highly influenced by Joe Meek and vintage sci-fi / horror movies, started to experiment with weird noises out of his electrified autoharp, favoring the audio-oriented drug mescaline over the LSD associated with hippies. Amethyst jammed with musicians such as Benny Thurman from the 13th Floor Elevators and Steve Webb from the Lost And Found (another International Artists band). The definitive Amethyst line-up, with Hugh Patton on drums and Mike Waugh on bass, played at venues like the I.L. Club, a historical landmark of Austin blues & psychedelic music.

It was through Mike Waugh’s friendship with Elevators drummer John Ike Walton that Billy Miller and the band (still unsure about their name but calling themselves The Daily Planet, changing it to Dark Shadows, and then to Cold Sun) hooked up with the local label / studio Sonobeat (Mariani, Wildfire, Johnny Winter…), who expressed interest in recording an album with the intention to shop it to a major label: thus, the now-legendary Cold Sun album was born. The band, driven by Miller’s strange electrified autoharp sounds plus the massive fuzz guitar of McGarrigle, dressed with feedback and futuristic lyrics, laid down several tracks in between rehearsals at Miller’s house on Castle Hill (west Austin). The album opens with “South Texas” (“the ultimate psychedelic track,” according to Patrick “The Lama” Lundborg), climbing to a psychedelic summit with the final 11 minutes of the fervently intoxicated “Ra-Ma”.

Never released at the time, the Cold Sun album languished in oblivion and the musicians moved on to other things. Billy Bill Miller along with drummer Hugh Patton founded Bleib Alien (later The Aliens), the famous backing band of Roky Erickson, with Billy being essential in bringing Roky back to music after his stay at Rusk Mental Hospital.

It wasn’t until 1990 that the Cold Sun album was finally released on vinyl by the Rockadelic label (in a tiny edition of 300 copies), followed by a new edition on German label World In Sound in 2008, now out of print.

For this new edition on Guerssen, we’ve tried to imagine how the Cold Sun album could have looked like if it had been actually released in 1970. It comes in a hard cardboard sleeve with vintage styled artwork by psychedelic illustrator Callum Rooney.

Sourced from the same audio master as the original Rockadelic LP, the sound has been vastly improved thanks to the meticulous and careful restoration / remastering by audiophile engineer Ezra Lesser, who has also penned the definitive story of Cold Sun for the liner notes.

Formed in Blackpool in the late 60s, Heavy Rain was a ”heavy progressive blues” band who shared stage with big names like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies or Caravan. In 1973, now reduced to a power-trio (Geoff Carter on lead guitar/vocals, Oggy Hargreaves on bass and Bernie Worsley on drums), they went to London and registered an album which was never released at the time but a few metal acetates were made. Only one copy is actually known of this monster rarity. Music is 100% underground psychedelic hard-rock with heavy distorted fuzz-wah guitars and delay/echo effects. Seven original songs plus a spaced out Pink Floyd cover.

A dazzling fusion of classically-inspired progressive rock and song-based psychedelic pop with an organ-based sound, in the vein of Procol Harum and The Nice.

“In October 1969, King Crimson released their debut, In The Court Of The Crimson King, Pink Floyd unleashed Ummagumma and Led Zeppelin put out their second LP. At the same time, Misty were in London’s Regent Sound Studios recording what turned out to be the only album of their career with producer, Adrian Ibbetson, who had cut his teeth as an engineer working with everyone from the Beatles to the Equals.

After only a handful of gigs, Misty signed a deal with Parlophone and began to gather momentum with the release of Hot Cinnamon. Although they received a lot of airplay, the single failed to chart and the band’s hopes of releasing their debut album were dashed. Reluctantly, Misty went their separate ways and the Here Again master tapes sat gathering dust on a shelf until Gelardi came across the original acetate and decided it was time for the album to finally see the light of day.

Bridging late psych and early prog, songs like Life Has Just Begun, Witness For The Resurrection and the title track were played with a perfect mix of high-flying experimentation and virtuosic musicianship. Blurring the fine lines between rock, jazz, classical and chamber pop, Here Again is a transcendent kaleidoscope of colour that is beyond definition.

Maybe you can tell an album is truly timeless when it takes half a century for it to be properly appreciated. Previously unreleased archival studio/live recordings from 1970-71 by this lost Bay Area band. A superb cool blend of acid-rock, psychedelia and brass-rock with some outstanding guitar leads, Hammond organ and a tight rhythm section. Stow Lake was a seven piece group (named after the lake in Golden Gate Park) comprised of well-seasoned musicians from the original San Francisco psychedelic / fusion scene. Among them, we can find ace guitar player Bob Hardy (previously of hard psych group The Osgoode/Asgard); the tandem of Jeff Ervin (sax, flute) and Jean Hintermann (trumpet), both later on Aura, Bill Whiter’s backing band and Hot Cider (with Dennis Geyer of A.B. Skhy); child prodigy Larry Mallarino on trombone and bass player Dave Dunaway (later of jazz fusion band Listen). Not forgetting powerful singer / organist Bob Staley. Unreleased until now, the recordings contained here were registered at top studios like McCune and Golden State Recorders. Also including are a couple of excellent quality live tracks recorded at the legendary Fillmore West in 1971, showing the band at their peak with an impressive jamming / acid-rock sound.

Asgard (initially known as Osgoode, named after the street where Blue Cheer had their headquarter) was a San Francisco band featuring ace guitar player Bob Hardy (a veteran of many Bay Area bands since the early 60s) and Jake ‘Gelon’ Lau (Gideon & Power, Mary McCreary, Tribe…) on electric violin and vocals.

This is their lost album, registered at Roy Chen Recorders in 1972, now released for the first time.

“For Asgard” features nine original tracks, perfectly recorded and played, dominated by Bob Hardy’s outstanding fuzzy lead guitar and the cool touch of Gelon’s Lau electrified violin that recalls UK prog-psych bands like the similar named Asgærd or High Tide at times. Hard to believe that such a pro-recorded, top quality album like this was never released at the time. After playing a celebrated free concert at the Provo Park in Berkeley alongside bands like Mother Cat and Summerhill, the band slowly disintegrated.

The Flow was a psychedelic hard-rock power-trio formed in New York by Pete Fine, Monte Farber and Steve Starer. It was the early 70s in NYC, the pre-glam/punk/new wave days, when Flow (who rehearsed next room to a band called Wicked Lester, later known as Kiss) decided to start playing music without limits, developing their musical horizons. Their sound was based on hard-rock and heavy-fuzz guitars but adding psych / experimental touches. In 1972 they self-released a private album, “The Flow’s Greatest Hits”, featuring their own songs. Magical UK folk-rock with psychedelic / West Coast influences. It was originally self-released by Mandy Morton in 1978, after the two Spriguns albums for Decca. “Magic Lady” was dedicated to Sandy Denny, who had just passed away that same year. It was available on black vinyl with a few copies (20 aprox) pressed on blue color. Both versions are very hard to find today.

Terrific songwriting, superb musicianship and beautiful vocals. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, produced by Mike Kemp in conjunction with Mandy, mastered at Abbey Road and featuring guest appearances by Tim Hart (Steeleye Span) and Graeme Taylor (Gryphon, Albion Band).

Local Philly legends the American Dream was a late 60s band (featuring musician / actor Nick Jameson, later of Foghat!) who were regulars at clubs like the Electric Circus and offered a cool mix of psych, hard-rock and proto-power pop. They were signed to Ampex / Bearsville Records, releasing their only album in 1970, produced by Todd Rundgren (his first production work). Formed in 1966 around lead singer Richard Shirman, The Attack were the ultimate freakbeat/psychedelic band. We present a new, definitive edition of their famous “Final Daze” recordings, focusing on strictly 1967-1968 stuff with John Cann as main songwriter (plus a never-before-on-vinyl track from ’69, taken from a rare acetate), unlike previous editions that included early and post-Attack unrelated recordings. The result is a killer UK Psych sounding album featuring the impressive guitar of John Cann (Andromeda, Atomic Rooster…) and it’s the closer we can get to what the long rumoured to exist Attack’s “Roman God Of War” unreleased LP could have sounded like. Heavy-progressive, proto-metal and psychedelic hard-rock from the depths of the UK underground, 1970-71. Formed in Preston by the core of Pete Hughes (lead guitar) and Mick Carroll (vocals, rhythm guitar), Stoned Rose evolved from a band called Five Steps Beyond and at one time featured Chris Allen on bass (later of Ultravox). The band worked with a London agency called Nemesis and also with Tramps from Birmingham (owned by Black Sabbath guitarist Toni Iommi). Stoned Rose played several times at notable venues like the Temple and the Cavern and also at underground and progressive clubs and Universities, sharing stage with bands like Stray, May Blitz, Blonde On Blonde… Exhumed from rare as hell acetates (including a Deroy one) and demo tapes, here’s the first ever Stoned Rose album. Yes, you heard correctly: this
SUPERGROUND LP is sonically akin to
the legendary pair for which composer
Sandro Brugnolini will always shine
worldwide, and ideally brings the
trilogy to a close. Composed and
recorded in two sessions between July
1969 and November 1970, the album
echoes the shocking 1969's Charles
Manson massacre, with tracks
dedicated to the villa at Cielo Drive, in
Hollywood, where Sharon Tate e Roman
Polanski lived for six months. Some
music was also used for an animated short movie signed by Pino Zac, “Radice Quadrata di 3”, a little art-film
gem about the consumer society.
The recordings have all in common the terrific line up, featuring MARC 4 members Antonello Vannucchi
(organ), Maurizio Majorana (bass), Roberto Podio (drums), along with Angelo Baroncini (guitar) replacing Carlo
Pes. An incredible groovy combo that plays a strange psychedelic rock and r’n’b with funky and prog flavor.
Another lost masterpiece from Italian golden age soundtracks finally rescued and brought back in life to see
the light of the wax for its very first time.
