Historical Graffiti is the band’s fourth full-length, out in 2016. Gary Arce, the guitarist, seems comfortable sitting on a single vamp throughout the opener ‘The Wind Cries Edalyn’, allowing the additions of violin and bandoleon accordion (played by the tango musicians Sara Ryan and Adolfo Trepiana, respectively) to weave melodies in between. Despite the titular connection to the Jimi Hendrix song, it bears no discernible resemblance to ‘The Wind Cries Mary’ and it is a deceptive number; what seems such a simple, almost easy-listening song reveals more colour with every listen. ‘Her Phantom Finger of Copenhagen’ is slightly darker and almost sounds, with the slight distortion on Arce’s guitar, as if it could have come from Pot Head, the EP the band released in 2005. Mario Lalli, the bass player, begins the third song, ‘Naomi Crayola’ with a throbbing single note, aided by Bill Stimson’s metronomic drumming. Imagine if Can grew up near the beach, it’s that sort of vibe. The only problem with the song – and the album, as it happens – is that it is too short. Ryan’s violin returns in ‘The Secret Language of Elephants’, this time playing the role of keeping the main vamp alive while Arce’s guitar generates an evocative soundscape that opens in your mind a wide, violet sky like that above a desert the moment after the sun disappears for the night. The closing song and title track is the most free of the five on the album, with Stimson’s beat conjuring memories of Kyuss’s more mellow moments from Welcome to Sky Valley, Lalli’s bass marking the simplest of bottom ends and Arce having a ball over the top. Formed in London’s Islington borough in 1970, Grit would perform their heavy psychedelic rock locally for three years, disbanding and disappearing before they could sign a contract with a record label. Their sole recorded output was a three-track demo, recorded in 1972, of which only two copies were ever pressed. One of those copies made its way to Germany, where it was discovered in a flea market by record collector and psychedelic rock expert Hans Pokora. After being featured in Pokora’s “7001 Record Collector Dreams” and being awarded the maximum grade of rarity, the record quickly became an object of desire for crate diggers around the world. It didn’t take long for somebody to track down original guitarist Frank “Spider” Martinez, and with the original master tapes he still had in his possession, reissues were off to the races!

And for good reason - not only is this record incredibly rare, but the heavy psychedelic rock is unparalleled, with comparisons to Cream, Jimmy Hendrix, and John Mayall hardly doing it the justice it deserves. Trees Speak's debut record, Trees Speak, is the band's first of five albums they've produced in half a decade, and it is finally getting its worldwide reissue to their fans' long-awaited anticipation. Released on Cinedelic Records. Before their first album, they planned to create music with an unrehearsed approach performing simple beats, riffs, sequences, and going by instinct. They endeavored to create an auditory environment that let the listener's mind to be set free of tone, melody, and structure. They began to experiment with sounds, blending vintage aesthetics and equipment, which led them on an unexpected journey into creating and producing records. Always with their roots in 1960s-70s jazz, rock and roll, and experimental music they began to experiment with live sound performances and performance art. The band's live performances dramatically captured their idea of merging early experimental music such as the Dadaist, John Cage, and early electronic experimental music. While their music might seem organic and unrehearsed, the band has developed an creative way of communicating ideas into sound using visual art. For example, they use diagrams when communicating a musical idea. The band often refers to musical diagrams to express dynamics, chords, key signatures, and emotional expressions. These graphic notations are a template to communicate esoteric concepts, which they ingeniously transform into their music. They also use this form of illustrated art expression during live performances and in-studio recordings. It is a simple way to explain an overarching idea through music and art. Trees Speak are Daniel Martin Diaz and Damian Diaz both appear also on the album by Others (Cinedelic Records).

Caligula formed in 1984 in New York City and were part of that legendary wave when punk and metal bands started crossing each other's territory and playing shows together. Caligula raised their banner high playing shows with the likes of Whiplash, Carnivore, Sheer Terror, Crumbsuckers, Agnostic Front, Rest IN Pieces and many more. "Technical Aggression" is their 1987 Demo featuring five songs of fast and violent thrash metal that betrays the hardcore influence only in its speed and in the super-aggressive approach. The LP version features 4 extra never heard before tracks recorded live at the CBGB's in 1987 with an incredibly good sound. The CD version features the whole CBGB's show as bonus and two additional tracks recorded live in 1988, never heard before as well. Mastered at Toxic Basement Studio. 400 copies on black vinyl, insert, A2 poster.

Squadra Omega is one of the bands which best represents the vast spectrum of the Italian underground. Psychedelic, avant-garde, jazz-rock, improvisation, kraut-rock, rock in opposition and ethno-tribalism blend seamlessly into the work of a collective that moves and expands depending on the urgency of the moment, focused around a core that rotates around the two members OmegaMatt and OmegaG8. In the band's wide discography we find compositional freedom, improvised jam-sessions in and a amplitude of references, all of which move between different spaces and times.

Materia Oscura (Dark matter) offers a glimpse at the same time the soil of the "rock" matter as well as the alien, seen from multiple points of view, neighbors and materials distant and mysterious. Three tracks that stretch their eyes at Orient or Africa as well as into the depths of the cosmos, landing on the side of the art-rock of the '70s and towards some psychedelic, visionary, cinematic drives then explode into a real ecstatic trip. Inputs from Coltrane, Canterburian jazz-rock, Grateful Dead and Synthy-Space views are melted into free-form landings until they discover their own personal form of prog. Different Universes collide and coexist in the band in a constant mutation, maintaining faith in one single ideal: "music for the third eye”.

Solar Project don´t try to impress with technical craftsmanship, fast licks or complex passages, but concentrate with a Pink Floyd-like overall sound. This overall picture is filled with excellent keyboard and guitar parts, various singing voices, mysterious sound effects and nice solos. The fact that Solar Project are heavily influenced by Pink Floyd only contributes to the overall idea. On Here I am, you hear that Solar Project do have a sound of their own. The core of the band is formed by keyboardist Robert Valet and guitarist Peter Terhoeven, two German musicians with a progressive heart of gold. They are assisted by several guest musicians, who are the backing band for Solar Project. Complex art rock, sometimes heavy, sometimes floydian-style filigrane, sometimes psychedelic, this perfectly describes the musical spectrum.

Music produced in the 70’s in the Basque Country got trapped between two earth shattering artistic currents; Ez Dok Amairu in the 60s and Basque Radical Rock in the 80’s, and unfortunately, most of the lovely discs and tunes created at that magical time have been pushed to a remote (and sometimes even despised) corner of our collective memory. 60’s and 80’s music currents are almost opposite, and both work as magnetic poles with a very strong power of attraction, and maybe also as a burden for any of the later artistic currents. 60’s generation of artists searched within their rich and ancient cultural roots to acknowledge and update them, in proud, hopeful and unforgettable folk songs. The 80’s one on the other hand, worked in a flammable environment in constant social and political conflict and found in punk the perfect way to express their anger and weariness for so many unfulfilled promises and the lack of opportunities into short, noisy, direct and corrosive songs, technically sparse but full of energy and expressive power. Most of the “classic” names engraved in our memory come from one or the other like Benito Lertxundi, Mikel Laboa, Lourdes Iriondo and Xabier Lete or Kortatu, Hertzainak, Zarama, Las vulpes, Eskorbuto or Cicatriz. 70’s generation and their music works somehow as the “missing link” (“katebegia” in Basque) between the two. They loved folky tunes and don’t forget their ancient roots, but they also look outside for inspiration and experimentation. Just as the 80’s boys and girls found punk the 70’s guys found a completely different sonic and aesthetic landscape in the works of Grateful Dead, Fairport Convention, King Crimson, Soft Machine, Gong,… and worked closely with keen souls in other neighboring regions such as Maquina!, Pau Riba or Sisa in Catalonia or Smash and Triana in Andalusia. This resulted in more abstract and poetic lyrical content, much longer psych-folk-prog-jazz tunes, full of complex instrumental passages and mesmerizing structures of sheer ambition and masterful execution in many cases. But, most important of all, they found a voice of their own, rich, unique, and fascinating, and that’s what makes them so valuable to us. Not only to us, but also to lots of vinyl collectors and crate-diggers around the world, who have in many cases paid fortunes for some of the original editions of LPs that are the source of tunes in this compilation. Mikel Unzurrunzaga Schmitz aka DJ Makala, Dj and producer of worldwide scope and wisdom, noticed this fact first and decided to pay homage to these wonderful tunes through this masterful and dedicated selection for your pleasure and as an open invitation to dig deeper into your adventures in the dark and hidden side of Basque popular music. The album Katebegiak, now published by Elkar, contains 13 tunes on double LP gatefold edition from Haizea, Izukaitz, William S. Fischer, Magdalena, Enbor, Itoiz, Koska, Itziar, Errobi, Lisker, Amaia Zubiria & Pascal Gaigne, Gontzal Mendibil & Taldea and Urria, and the CD-Book edition adds an extra bonus track by the great unknown artist Juan Arkotxa. Along with this compilation, and as a sample of the era, we reissued two more little gems of which we have included a track on the compilation.

This unlikely cover version of Madonna’s perennial pop favourite first came to the attention of Ghost Box records when Large Plants front man, Jack Sharp posted it on his social media channels as an April Fool’s gag. Plenty of followers were taken in by this perfectly crafted gem that sounds uncannily like it must have always existed and predated the original.

It’s a super heavy, scuzzed up, psych sound, at the same time shot through with Mediterranean sunlight. It’s by no means a parody though; rather a respectful interpretation of a perfectly formed pop masterpiece and is officially sanctioned by the publishers, for release on this highly desirable chunk of heavyweight vinyl by Ghost box Records.

Large Plants started as a solo project for Jack Sharp singer and guitarist of psych-folk luminaries Wolf People, while that band are on hiatus. It was spurred on by a song writing and recording frenzy during the lockdown of 2020 when Sharp played and recorded all instruments for the songs on the single and forthcoming album. In summer of 2021 the tracks were mixed by songwriter Chris Cohen (formerly of Deerhoof & Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti). The resulting sound is a kind of scuzzy, heavy, psych rock, sweetened by a rich vein of bucolic sorrow that Sharp’s vocal never fails to convey.

Sharp has now assembled a four-piece band and has started to tour the new material, to coincide with the Ghost Box releases.

Kupa 4 (Kupa Dörtlüsü) was a band formed of Greek and Turkish musicians who lived in a mutual culture in İstanbul (or Constantinople). Their roots connected to rebetiko and laiko, but they were also children of the revolution. Therefore while playing in a tradition of a laiko band, they also had influences from beat and surf. Groovy drumming, Killer Farfisa, and bouzouki-like electric guitar sounds are the key elements in Kupa 4's soundscape.

The band rocked the taverns in Turkey and attracted both minorities' and Turks' attention until the Cyprus crisis in 1974. In this compilation, you will be hearing the recordings of Kupa 4, where they performed a unique laiko beat/surf style made in Turkey. Plus, in 2 tracks, you will listen to the band performing as an influential Anatolian Rock band.

For the very first time on a Vinyl album an incredible and historical document from the Italian Progressive Rock scene of the early 70s by a six-piece band from Savona ‘Il Giro Strano’. The band was formed by young musicians active in Liguria during the the 60s and 70s previously members of locally established bands such as: One Way, Voodoo, Tramps and others. In those days, the band had no chance of releasing any album, however, they left various tape recordings on reels and audio cassettes, preserving a musical heritage of great historical and artistic value. Led by the powerful voice of Mirko Ostinet and featuring great sax and keyboard playing skills, il Giro Strano created a remarkably original style of Italian progressive rock music with jazz nuances, reminiscent of bands such as Flea, Rocky’s Filj, Procession, Ibis, New Trolls.
