Progressive folk act Comus was a true one-off, their unique take on folk rock a spine-tinglingly shocking one, even as the music draws the listener into singalongs. Formed by singer-guitarist Roger Wootton with some art school mates, including guitarist Glen Goring, violinist Colin Pearson and oboist Rob Young, Comus began recording their debut LP for RCA, who dropped them halfway through, leading to further recordings for Dawn with Barry Murray. Every song on this single bears the hallmark of their exceptional take on folk rock, too far ahead of its time to gain favour on release, and all the more to savour now.

As a somewhat overlooked gem of early 70’s ballad rock, Los Angeles-based soft rockers Climax boast some of the biggest breakout hits of their time. Fronted here by the illustrious Sonny Geraci this album features 1972 hit “Precious and Few” amongst a number of other arcane classics. Reissued in original gatefold format and pressed on heavyweight cream Colored Vinyl.

Multi-Platinum rock band Candlebox releases Live at the Neptune, a The LP has hit songs from Candlebox’s self-titled release, as well as their sophomore release Lucy. Live at the Neptune was mixed and mastered by Candlebox’s very own Peter Klett and is available through Pavement Entertainment. Founding guitarist Klett says, “Not only was it a special night for all of us to get back together, it was also an opportunity to indulge in my new passion of music production by mixing the record. Mixing this record was a challenge, but it’s what I love to do now.” Candlebox formed back in 1990 in Seattle, WA. The band garnered plenty of praise during the grunge era and continues to be a dynamic driving force in today’s rock scene.

“It Became Crystal” by Blue Sharks is an exclusive release by Redi Edizioni Musicali, an historical company from Milan that, in addition to curating the digital catalogue of Edizioni Leonardi’s library music and sonorizzazioni, is also re-printing faithful vinyl reproductions of the most prestigious titles from Leonardi’s catalogue. These records were originally released in very limited editions, often as not-for-sale promotional material, and many of the original LP’s are now very rare and collectibles almost impossible to find!

The library music LP re-release series by Redi Edizioni Musicali starts off with a true colossus in the genre. The record was written by maestros Giorgio Zinzi (under the pseudonymous “Ipcress” in the record’s credits) and Carmelo Carucci, who managed to involve composer and songwriter Stelvio Cipriani to collaborate with them in 1972: under the name “Blue Sharks” the trio created a perfect mix of rock, funk and soul, together with elements borrowed from their previous soundtrack works. The Moog synthesizer contributes to making this album unique and captivating from its first to last note. An evergreen classic!

Blind Willie formed in Spokane (Washington) in 1972 and featured terrific guitar player Frank Trowbridge from hard-psych legends Sleepy John.

They carved out a unique niche in the Northern Idaho/Eastern Washington rock scene in the early to mid-’70s, performing original music in a time when doing so wasn’t widespread for regional bands. Within weeks of the group’s formation, they commanded stages with a potent smattering of hard-rock, country-rock and psych.

The band’s history includes a brief courtship with the Doobie Brothers’ Dave Shogren on bass, as well as major label interest from Columbia and Epic Records.

Here’s the first ever release of their amazing studio demos from 1972/74.

Blind Willie’s original lineup of Craig Karp (guitar, vocals), Frank Trowbridge (guitar), Charlie Bieker (bass, guitar, vocals) and Jim Griffith (drums) is represented via slices of incendiary rock ‘n’ roll pomp recorded on a 4-track tape machine in a friend’s apartment in 1972.

Live in the studio tracks from 1974 feature later drummer Mike Garland and bassist Joe Johnson for a fiery radio set at the legendary Kaye-Smith Studios in Seattle.

The album’s selected tracks navigate Blind Willie’s wide-ranging sonic explorations, anchored by formidable guitar-forward rockers that stand the test of time, and hold up to any of the more well-known work of their peers from the ‘70s. Writhing in the rock ‘n’ roll milieu, Blind Willie’s musical tributaries run deep, steeped in a spectrum of styles that range from hard blues-rock scorchers like the incendiary “Georgia,” to heartfelt ballads (“I’m Wondering If”) and into the upper echelons of sci-fi psych (“Zolly”), a comet ride through wah-wah geetar spacedust, replete with Rocky Horror cinematic sheen. It’s also easy to imagine songs like the choogle-heavy “Somebody Help Me” illuminating the vibe of parties, bars and theaters all over North America.

Originally published in 1979, the sole album from swedish band Atlas is combining playfulness with intricate, mellow melodies while infusing heavy organs, carefully refined guitar riffs and fantastic synthesized soundscapes. This album is indispensable when looking at the progressive instrumental music history and not to be overlooked !

The name of the band and the cover of the disc explicitly reveal the influence: Secos&Molhados. Investing in androgenia, progressive rock and samba-soul, Assim Assado tried to be a response of the small CID label to the enormous success that the Secos&Molhados did to the young public.

Led by Miguel de Deus (formerly Os Brazões), who signed most of the compositions and assumed the guitar and vocals, the group never took off, leaving only this LP, now almost forgotten. Curiosity: in 1977 Miguel de Deus falls headlong into funk, casting the rather interesting (and rare) "Black Soul Brothers" Also repressed on Groovie Records.

Band formed by Miguel de Deus in 1974, inspired by the Secos&Molhados and making clear both in the name, which is copied from a song of Secos&Molhados, both on the cover of the band's only album. Also the visual was well androgen but the music, a mixture of psychedelic, Progressive and a strong touch of Brazilian Soul music. The only album that had the same name as the band, did not get repercussion despite presenting a lot of quality.

Now the repress of this rare pearl brings to the light the huge talent of Miguel De Deus.

From a while I felt lost in time with this Dream Trip Machine, and my mind trips to the classic isle of wight festival in 1970, sometimes I feel that I travel cross desert on my old dodge challenger with sunglasses, an 8 tracks playing this music, and sometimes I get to an ancient hindu stone temples, damn !, this music I think Is balance, the necessary elements for the whole joy of our human existence. The story of Japanese psychedelic band Apryl Fool and their eponymous debut album is simply extraordinary. It was the vehicle by which bassist Haroumi Hosono first came to prominence, years before he became known as the “Godfather of Japanese electronica” as the founding member and leader of Yellow Magic Orchestra, though this musical titan had work released prior to the group’s 1968 founding, such as the song “The Sea Of Summer Day,” recorded with Yuko Okuyama and released by King Records the year before. Drummer Takashi “Rei” Matsumoto was a Beatles maniac that had covered songs by Them and Sam & Dave in his earlier group, Burns, while pioneering prog-rock keyboardist Hiroyoshi Yanagida and guitarists Chu Kosaka and Eiji Kikuchi had all been part of a group called The Floral, formed in 1967 through the Japanese wing of the official fan club of The Monkees (whom they supported during a Japanese tour enacted in October 1968). In September 1969, Apryl Fool played behind musical theatre group Tokyo Kid Brothers, the recording issued in minute quantity as the Love & Banana EP, issued on Columbia Japan’s Musicolor subsidiary; Apryl Fool’s own LP, also issued on Musicolor that year, had extended spacey psychedelic freak jams in the form of “Tanger” and “Pledging My Time,” marathon blues-rock tracks such as “April Blues” and “Honky Tonk Jam,” with the employed English sounding fairly credible, though both parts of epic opus “The Last Mother Land” feature Japanese lyrics. Of course, the day that the LP was actually released is reportedly the day that Apryl Fool announced their termination, giving this scarce release another level of legend for connoisseurs.

Fully licensed, ltd to 500 copies, gatefold vinyl The sole album by cultish british prog-blues combo. Originally released in 1970 on influential label Vertigo, their self-titled album is still one of the most original effort of the England jazz-rock scene. Fronted by Linda Hoyle, a powerful vocalist who sounds like a cross between Carol King and Julie Driscoll, the line up was completed by Mo Foster (bass), Mike Jupp (electric and 12-string guitars), Lynton Naiff (keyboards) and Grant Serpell (drums and percussion). Their eclectic mixture was truly compelling moving over a certain psychedelic feel, thanks also to the ubiquitous Hammond organ. A singular effort that made definitely history.
