Mr. K goes Gospel on the latest seven from Most Excellent Unlimited’s series of collaborations with the master editor. As is often the case, both of these edits are appearing on vinyl, and on 45, for the first time, with all the hallmarks of MEU’s commitment to quality.

A massive favorite with audiences who’ve attended Danny Krivit’s sets around the world, his “Churchapella” edit of Madonna's “Like A Prayer" is finally on wax. One of the singer’s greatest tracks, it has always fascinated with its combination of the sacred and the profane, leaving it up to the listener whether she is referring to a secular or holy love. In Krivit’s hands, focused largely on the undeniably massive sound of the Andre Crouch Choir, the divine nature of the lyrics shine through. Uplifting, moving, even transcendent when presented at the right moments, it’s both an inspiring piece of music and a seriously powerful DJ tool.

“Like A Prayer” is paired on the flip side with a fantastic edit of the Clark Sisters funky, slinky rare groove classic “Ha-Ya (Eternal Life).” Never officially released on 7-inch before, Krivit has taken the loose original recording and given it a steady pulse not by adding post-production elements, but via his experienced hand at building a musical movement that audiences will respond to. A slight tempo change, a bit of careful repetition, and at last connoisseurs of the smaller format vinyl have a definitive version of this powerful song.

Live duo Aderal deliver their debut EP Ribah on Blush Recordings. Dropping on 18th November, the release marks their first EP, platformed by Verona-based label Blush Recordings. Ribah channels industrial techno and EBM, embodying sultry sounds composed of winding melodies and raw, noise-driven atmospheres. Aderal explain the concept of the EP. ‘Almost all the aspects of “Ribah” trace back to where we started making music together. The artwork is a photo of a ladder leading to our studio in a derelict building, formerly a primary school. It’s where we met, developed our sound and played our first jams.’ “bznv” opens the EP with a foreboding feel, blending harsh percussive elements with steel-capped drums. Whispery vocals whirl beneath the surface, evoking a ghostly soundscape. An uncompromising intro that displays Aderal’s aesthetic from the get-go. “rbh” follows suit with a distorted synthline and huge drums, illustrating the duo’s penchant for corrosive beats aligned with their live jam approach. Italian DJ and producer VSK delivers a bone-chilling remix of “BZNV,” stitching slithery grooves between stomping drums. The perfect peak-time production. Belgian artist 6siss closes the EP with his remix of “RBH.” Known for penning militant moods, he goes hard and serves a menacing mutation of erratic drums paired with a demonic melody. Proceed with caution. Based in Reggio Emilia in Italy, Nicolò and Reda, aka Aderal, are a live duo who produce techno in its all sprawling forms. Since 2016, the pair have combined their love for music production and created industrial textures, broken-beat techno, and EBM-flavoured melodies. Their musical output evokes shadowy atmospheres and somber moods, simmering with a dancefloor feel. After years of experimenting and crafting an identity that strays from the predictable and instead focuses on a collision of sonic palettes and genres, Aderal are writing their own story—one set to twist and turn, just like their music.

WPH label boss Red D has always considered Adham Zahran to be the Moodymann/Theo Parrish of Egypt, so it is only fitting that for his second release on the label Adham joins the WPH U.S. Series ranks. His deep dusty house sound oozes soul and groove and this release is no exception.

Opening track ‘Flowing Green’ kicks off the E.P. with shining chords that will go down like a treat on any house dancefloor in the hands of the right DJ. ‘No Sorrow’ takes things more heady, but make no mistake, it kicks like the proverbial mule if you let it roam free. On the B-side we first have Detroit’s mainstay Brian Kage on remix duties for the final track ‘Picture Of The Tree’, providing that extra motor city funk we all love. While they are best known for working alongside some of the most recognizable names in jazz, Jazz Is Dead now invites you to meet an innovator that has largely gone unheard of, until now. In the early 1970s, Garrett Saracho was a recording artist signed to the legendary Impulse Records, who came up in Los Angeles’ fertile underground jazz community. Due to a tragic combination of label mismanagement and geopolitical intervention, his sole record, 1973’s En Medio, fell largely under the radar of even the most astute collectors and fanatics. After spending the following decades in obscurity working in the film industry and touring with his cousins in the rock band Redbone, Saracho stepped into the Linear Labs studio with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad to craft an intoxicating and kinetic rush of Latin Soul, Funk, and Psychedelic Jazz. While you may not know his name, your ears will soon know the genius of Garrett Saracho.

After a quarter century of nearly nonstop activity, dystopian Detroit synth-punk institution Adult. have perfected a strain of stylistic cohesion in the album format, "but for this we wanted something that's falling apart." Becoming Undone, the 9th official full-length by cofounders Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, explicitly succeeds in this aim, simultaneously rejecting and reflecting the planetary discord that inspired it. Begun in the latter half of 2020 against a backdrop of unprecedented flux and seismic isolation, the duo kickstarted their muse by sourcing fresh additions to the rig: a vocal loop pedal for Kuperus and Roland percussion pads for Miller. Reconnecting with legacy influences like the politicized industrial percussion of Test Department and the queasy miscreant synthetics of TG's 20 Jazz Funk Greats sparked a series of fruitfully frenetic sessions, centered on themes of impermanence and dissonance. Miller's rationale is blunt: "We weren't interested in melody or harmony since we didn't see the world having that." From the tense technoid blitz of "Undoing / Undone" to the twitchy EBM of "Fools (We Are_)" and "I Am Nothing," the sides bristle with strident acidic revolt and black leather sequential circuits, unhinged and unforgiving. Elsewhere, slower tempos of purgatorial unraveling ("Normative Sludge," "She's Nice Looking") showcase a breadth of vocal FX, Kuperus sounding alternately indignant and possessed, decrying the crimes, fears, and failings of a deluded world. Throughout, the band's chemistry crackles with revulsion and strobe-lit dissent, equal parts exorcism and denunciation. "Humans have always been pretty terrible," Kuperus explains. "But every year the compromises of culture just accelerate." Becoming Undone is also freighted with a more personal pain, as Kuperus' father passed away during the height of the pandemic, just before the album took root. As his hospice caretakers, she and Miller faced the banality of finality, surrounded by objects drained of meaning, "the joy of having a body, but also the drudgery of having one." The record's bewitching closing track, "Teeth Out Pt. II" - which happens to be the first Adult. song in the group's history without drums - speaks to this sense of doomed corporeal mass and the looming, lightless unknown that binds us all. After a quarter century of nearly nonstop activity, dystopian Detroit synth-punk institution ADULT. have perfected a strain of stylistic cohesion in the album format, "but for this we wanted something that's falling apart." Becoming Undone, the 9th official full-length by co-founders Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, explicitly succeeds in this aim, simultaneously rejecting and reflecting the planetary discord that inspired it. Begun in the latter half of 2020 against a backdrop of unprecedented flux and seismic isolation, the duo kickstarted their muse by sourcing fresh additions to the rig: a vocal loop pedal for Kuperus and Roland percussion pads for Miller. Reconnecting with legacy influences like the politicized industrial percussion of Test Department and the queasy miscreant synthetics of TG's 20 Jazz Funk Greats sparked a series of fruitfully frenetic sessions, centered on themes of impermanence and dissonance. Miller's rationale is blunt: "We weren't interested in melody or harmony since we didn't see the world having that."From the tense technoid blitz of "Undoing / Undone" to the twitchy EBM of "Fools (We Are_)" and "I Am Nothing," the sides bristle with strident acidic revolt and black leather sequential circuits, unhinged and unforgiving. Elsewhere, slower tempos of purgatorial unraveling ("Normative Sludge," "She's Nice Looking") showcase a breadth of vocal FX, Kuperus sounding alternately indignant and possessed, decrying the crimes, fears, and failings of a deluded world. Throughout, the band's chemistry crackles with revulsion and strobe-lit dissent, equal parts exorcism and denunciation. "Humans have always been pretty terrible," Kuperus explains. There is no final confirmation… Adventure is still exploring the golden era of 70's symphonic hard rock, mixing in proggy and folky elements. The guitar and Hammond organ still the heart of Adventure’s sound, augmented by multipart harmony vocals and a rock steady rhythm section. Clive Nolan of Pendragon and Arena fame has a little cameo appearance. Cellist Marit Aspås from The Trondheim Soloists also appears on a couple of tracks.

Continuing our work on Sao Tomé and Principe with curator DJ Tom B., we are pleased to announce the release of an anthology of the group África Negra.

This first volume includes 12 of their key tracks, remastered for the occasion and selected only from those officially released on different media. The album is accompanied by a booklet with the original covers and interviews with the band members still with us. A second volume containing only unreleased material, digitized from the studio tapes by their tour manager, and filled with period photos, is expected soon.

Formed in the early 1970s by Horacio, a butcher by trade, and his guitarist friend Emidio Pontes, África Negra is the best known of the great São Tomé and Principe bands. The catchy melodies in the local Forro language, provided by lead singer João Seria, and subtly harmonized by the enchanting backing vocals of the rest of the band, quickly ensured their influence outside the archipelago. Their incomparable blend of Puxa and Rumba rhythms and subtle melodies made them the most regular touring band from Sao Tome.

Their first album (Aninha) was released in 1981, followed by three more in 1983. They contain an incredible collection of timeless hits and have achieved high ratings on the second-hand market. Then came the excellent San Lena in 1986, which was unfortunately only released on cassette, but for which we were able to digitize the original tape. In 1990 their last album in vinyl format (Paga me uma cerveja) was released, the rarest. Three CDs and five cassettes followed in the 1990s. Like most São Tomean bands, they recorded their compositions at Radio Nacional STP, the only studio on the island at the time, whose cramped premises forced the big bands to do sessions outside in the courtyard, at night, facing the ocean and in front of their fans.

Reformed around João Seria, the band has recorded three albums since 2012, and has been touring again for a few years, offering, always with the same energy, their frenzied rhythms, their graceful harmonies, their poetry full of social metaphors, and their typical dance steps.

Eine Seelenverwandtschaft, die absolut Sinn macht.

Andrea Di Ceglie und Luigi Tutolo, die beiden Mitglieder von Agents Of Time, nutzten die Zeit während der Pandemie, um an "Universo" zu arbeiten, einem Album, das lose um ihr "persönliches Universum" herum konzipiert ist, eine Manifestation der Welt, die Di Ceglie und Tutolo in und um ihr Studio herum aufgebaut haben. Das macht den besonderen Glanz und die strahlende Helligkeit von "Universo" aus - es strotzt nur so von Persönlichkeit, Elan und Kraft, das Duo experimentiert mit Musik und erkundet auch noch deren entfernteste Ecken. Wer bei "Universo" nur ein weiteres Album mit melodischem Techno erwartet, wird angenehm überrascht sein - hier ist viel mehr los, und alles ist gleichermaßen spannend.

Mit sanfter Klarheit von Gastsängerin Audrey Janssens gesungen, ist “Fallin” ein Traum von einem Song, der an die großen Zeiten von UK-Garage in den frühen 00er Jahre erinnert. "Interstellar Cowboy" ist ein selbstbewusstes, geschmeidig über den Laufsteg stolzierender Disco-Track; das sanfte Moll-Klavier von "Liquid Fantasy" entwickelt sich zu einem wunderbar melancholischen Techno-Pop-Epos, mit Vicky Who?’s Stimme voller Sehnsucht . Danach taucht auch Janssens Gesang auf dem Elektro-Wirbel von "Poison" wieder auf; "Dream Vision" greift die Single "The Mirage" auf, sanft und mit schwungvollen Streichern, voller Dramatik; "Part Of Life" dagegen ist ein echter Schaffel-Stomp.

All der Abwechslungsreichtum lässt eher tanzflächenorientierte Tracks wie "Ciao" noch deutlicher hervortreten - sie wirken noch entschlossener, stromlinienförmiger und dennoch reich an Details, pluckernde, Moroder-eske Bässe treffen auf stroboskopisch blitzende Synths, von denen aus die Melodien ins Firmament schießen. “Universo” fühlt sich textlich dicht an, aber es atmet trotzdem, seine Klänge sind so greifbar, dass man sie anfassen möchte, seine Melodien so verführerisch, dass man sie nicht mehr aus dem Kopf bekommt. “Universo” ist ein wunderschönes, mutiges Album, ein perfekter Treffpunkt von Pop-Melodien und stilvollem Techno: Agents Of Time in excelsis.

Finally gathered in a 12" the two 7" of the seminal band Agentss, ground zero of Brazilian post-punk. Originally released in 82 and 83, until now these recordings were only available in their original format. Their members were key figures of the Sao Paulo underground, after the band split-up they went to create important bands such as Voluntários da Pátria, Azul 29, Violeta de Outono and Mumia. The track "Agentes" was included in the "Nao Wave" (Brazilian Post Punk 1982 - 1988) compilation released by Man Recordings in 2005. The release comes with an insert featuring unpublished photos and texts telling the story of the band. DESCRIPTIONA milestone in the history of electro-pop and post-punk music in Brazil. Agentss was a seminal band that recorded only two singles, did few shows and imploded. It's no exaggeration to compare their debut show with the famous Sex Pistols concert in Manchester, when approximately 50 people that left the place with the idea of starting their own band. The band's sound was a transitional one. We know that part of what is perceived as post-punk is actually pre-punk (including bands as Suicide, Chrome, Cabaret Voltaire and This Heat) and we could draw comparisons of Agentss with the initial Ultravox (John Foxx era), the albums by guitarist Snakefinger produced by The Residents and the experimental early Devo.

Roberto Agosta, or just Agosta as he likes to be called, is a Sicilian DJ and producer from Catania active all along the eastern coast of Sicily, a place that proved to be a soulful place and a training ground for a long career, making him an excellent music selector and a reference point in the spread of alternative music. A soundtrack music enthusiast since he was a child, now a vinyl "serial gathere", Agosta has always put his vast knowledge at the service of a very personal sound that sums many different music styles and contaminations, simple and profound but straightforward and direct at the same time. Agosta’s eponymous album, released on LP, CD and digital formats, was conceived during the Covid-19 lockdown, thanks to the precious collaboration of friend DJ and producer Massimo Napoli aka Galathea, with whom Roberto has already started another project called An-an that will produce a new record for Space Echo at the end of 2022. This record highlights a typical chill-out aesthetic, thanks to its trip-hop and ambient rhythms and atmospheres, while a deeper exploration reveals the psychedelic essence of the entire work, a daring and exciting journey in the most primitive Sicily, and the energy that sustains all of its ten tracks. Much of their author and his lifestyle - mainly based on meditation, the search for spiritual elevation, the relationship with nature and the regaining of contact with those particular places and with the people who live there - is revealed by those tracks that constitute a soundtrack for this spiritual but also extremely physical journey. The song titles are, in fact, intrinsically linked to Roberto’s real life: the Gorna and Ilice mountains at the foot of Etna, the Carricante vineyard and its excellent wine, Unna, Three Chestnuts, Varanni, Don Alfio, Lady G. Each of them represents a pleasant and dreamlike narration and the escape from the complex dynamics of a city like Catania, among echoes of the most dreamy Pink Floyd, the softer side of ’70s krautrock, but also the Massive Attack and Tricky’s Bristol scene. There’s also an excellent choice of synthesizers and overdubbed guitars, thanks to the talent of the multifaceted musician and producer Salvo Bruno Dub, and of Manuela Amalfitano, Loredana Poidomani and Deran Obika’s voices. Agosta is an introspective, deep work with a cinematic vocation, perfectly rooted in the territory where it took shape, among sunny landscapes, lush with vegetation but also deserted and arid lands. Urpa i musell is pleased to present our sixth record. We have joined paths with pianist Agustí Fernández on a
double disc that includes both the reissue of the LP Suite Nofres (originally released in 1987) and
Interseccions. Música i arts escèniques (1985-1990) (meaning Intersections. Music and performing arts (1985-
1990)), a set of previously unreleased works that Agustí recorded during this period at various performances.
Agustí Fernández (Palma, 1954) is a seminal figure in the improvised music scene. Few musicians in Spain
enjoy such international fame and respect. Peter Kowald, Derek Bailey, Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris, Evan
Parker, Barry Guy, Mats Gustafsson, Joel Ryan, Joe Morris, Nate Wooley and Peter Evans are some of the
musicians Fernández has been able to converse with artistically. He has shaped his creativity by leading free

music formations, composing for the world of cinema, television and theatre, directing musical events in our
country and abroad in addition to his work in the field of teaching (until very recently he was professor of
improvisation at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya). We could define his musical identity as the result
of the interaction between the tradition of classical piano and the improvisation of jazz roots, which has led to
new sonic places, the sum of language and intuition.
Fernández settled in Barcelona at a very young age. From the very beginning he received very diverse
commissions and one of them was to play in the dance classes of the Institut del Teatre. There he met many
young dancers. In 1986 he debuted in the recording world with Ardent, a set of piano pieces that includes a
piece composed for the dancer Margarita Guergué. Shortly after, he took charge of the music for a
contemporary ballet by Ramon Oller, another of the dance students he had met at the Institut del Teatre. Suite
Nofres, released in 1987, is the recording of the music that Agustí played live in the show.
Three years later, "El mar" was recorded, a video-dance work that he and the dancer Àngels Margarit
produced for Glasnost, the fringe TVE-2 program directed by Lulu Martorell. This short piece was reinterpreted
as Les nenes no en tenen mai prou, a theatrical show for piano and five voices, one of them Lulu herself.
The second album of this release, Interseccions. Música i arts escèniques (1985-1990), includes these
pieces, as well as unpublished extra material from Suite Nofres.
Agustí then combined work with training. In those years, he immersed himself fully in the musical avant-garde
of the moment: he discovered the music of Cecil Taylor and took courses with Xenakis and Stockhausen. He
also encountered some artists returning to Catalonia from the United States, such as the dancers Lydia
Azzopardi and Cesc Gelabert and the musician Carles Santos, all of them influenced by the American
minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Agustí Fernández collaborated with Carles Santos closely for
many years after 1982.
Santos' approach to minimalism was particular, passionate (as Tom Johnson explains in "Passionate
minimalism") and heterodox. The limitations of minimalistic explorations —repetition of short musical
patterns and phrases, persistent drones and harmony tending to be static— were understood above all as a
starting point from which to express himself with complete freedom. Fernández received this influence and
adopted Santos' attitude both in Suite Nofres and in the works included in Interseccions. Minimalism here
acts as a structural support. It serves as a framework from which to explore a variety of interesting topics,
including research on the piano and brief bursts of free improvisation, meticulous work with timbre, phrasing,
and form, where we discover, among other things, structures used in various locations and instrumentations,
and interaction with the environment, including other musicians, singers, dancers and audiences.
The sonority of these pieces is rich and mature. Agustí, in fact, recorded Ardent with twenty years of musical
experience already behind him, but at the same time it is also a learning record. As he explained in an interview
with José Francisco Tapiz: "From ‘85 to ‘95 I was working on my own, trying to develop a language and have
the tools to improvise. Privately, above all." If we look at his discography, Suite Nofres marks a point in time,
after which he released very sparsely until 1996. After using the minimalist approach, he had to abandon it. The
yearning for completely free music meant intense personal work without too many sound testimonies
(Interseccions is one of them). The result of this intense search is the sensational Tempranillo (1996), an
album by duet with Evan Parker and which constitutes a declaration of intentions. Here we could say that the
mature and most intense stage of Agustí begins –an essential part, but not one that we will relate here.
The two albums that make up the sixth release from Urpa i musell bear witness to the decisive period of
impasse in the artistic growth of one of the most stimulating musicians that has emerged from our country. At
the same time, it perfectly captures where experimental music was then. It is lovely to be able to hear the
wonderful ideas that came from the head and hands of Agustí Fernández that represented the first flowering of
his unmistakable character.

According to an apocryphal book, the mythical character of Ahasver refused to help Jesus on his way to Golgotha. For this reason, he was denied the right to die and was condemned to wander the earth forever. This myth accompanies the entire printed history of humanity. In an age when fiction is stronger than reality, some say that the first man who will not die is already walking the earth. The eight songs of “Causa Sui” are the contribution of the band Ahasver to the continuation of this narrative. It took the Frenchmen four years to write and record their debut album. The pooling of the artistic individualities embodies the evocation of what Ahasver might have seen among the ruins of this dying world: equity, sharing, inclusion and resilience. So much for the approach of the musicians from Toulouse and their first album “Causa Sui”. In other words, Ahasver is a band that likes to work on concepts and challenging their own creativity. Involved are members of Eryn NON DAE, Gorod, Psykup, Zubrowska, Dimitree and Drawers, who with Ahasver have formed a formation that moves in the shallows of progressive metal. The field of activity of the Frenchmen cannot be narrowed down further. The quintet does not accept stylistic boundaries and likes to change its way of playing. The debut of the group on Lifeforce Records develops multilayered and along a constant reinterpretation of the composition of the heavy sounds. Tension and special moments are abundantly offered on “Causa Sui”. Interestingly, it even happens that the debut of Ahasver can be followed without any problems despite its bulky approach and is even suitable for recognizable moments.

This album contains the first recordings of modern music from the Sahara and mark the birth of the genre that is known in the West as ‘Desert Blues’ or ‘Desert Rock’. Ahl Nana changed the folk music of the Sahara to modern, cosmopolitan music by using Western instruments like the electric guitar. They paved the way for artists like Ali Farka Touré, Tinariwen, Mdou Moctar or Bombino. Although the group is still active today, they only recorded 2 LPs and a handful of singles. All these recordings took place in 1971 at the Boussiphone studios in Casablanca. The records were never distributed and therefore remained unknown for almost 50 years, until Radio Martiko discovered a batch of unsold factory stock a few years ago. On this album, you will find a selection of these revolutionary recordings.
