On it's initial release in 2012, Colourmeinkindness found Basement pulling from not only one of emo's zeniths-early Sunny Day Real Estate-but also channeling heavy and sometimes hazy `90s alt-rock, with hints of behemoths like Pixies, Silverchair, and Catherine Wheel shaping the sound. Each extended side is crafted from an arsenal of samples, disintegrating vinyl and corroded tape, and Pepijn Caudron manipulates these sounds in a way that belies the sources. "Nobody has riffs anymore," says founding member/vocalist/guitarist Jacob Duarte when asked about his approach on 12th House Rock. "That's the kind of band we are and to me, that's just how you write songs. Drums, bass, guitar, vocals. Nothing else. There are no other instruments on the record." King Tone aka Alamo (born Wilfredo Nunez) is a hip hop musician, born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Inspired by the golden age of hip hop, Tone gained an interest in music at a time when groups like N.W.A, Public Enemy and EPMD were pushing boundaries.

By 1991, when Tone had already written and recorded numerous projects independently, he was introduced to "Lenny Grace" aka "AFTAMAF" another local MC/Producer from the Providence Area which was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Aftamaf's ability to create music using everything from live instruments, to the SP-12 and MPC paired with King Tone's "paint you a picture you can listen to" kind of flow proved to be the perfect combination. They were able to create classics like "Rhyme and Punishment" and "Victims of da Streets" in 1997 along with countless other hip-hop gems that remain unreleased. Around that time "MAF" went on to become one of the founding members of Blank Fasiz and D.U.N.A.T Productions while Tone continued to pursue his career as a solo artist.

Little Barrie And Malcolm Catto Team Up For Seven Tracks Of Breaks And Sci-Fi Fuzz For Maverick Producer Madlib's Label

Quatermass Seven, the meeting of minds between guitarist Barrie Cadogan, bassist Lewis Wharton and drummer Malcolm Catto represents a re-birth of sorts for Little Barrie, with these their first recordings since 2017’s Death Express and the untimely passing of their gifted drummer and friend Virgil Howe. As Lewis explains, the sessions played a part in the healing process, a way to re-connect through music without any intentions to necessarily come away with a finished record. “It was good to get in the studio again after such a long break especially as we didn’t go in with any agenda or expectations,” he explains. There was no preconceptions that we would make a new Little Barrie record, it was just an opportunity to work on some things Barrie had written for fun with zero pressure.” With most tracks recorded live with minimal overdubs, and produced by Malcolm at his Quatermass studios, The Heliocentrics’ main man brings new flavour to the band’s rhythm section by blending his power behind the drum kit and his expansive skills behind the mixing desk to take Little Barrie’s music forward into new territories. Recorded on Catto’s treasure trove of analogue gear, and mastered onto ¼” tape, the overall effect is guitar, bass and drums finding a sweet spot where genres collide, delivering a record that takes the influences of the past and pushes them towards somewhere more contemporary. “I definitely hear in Barrie’s songs a lot of common musical ground’” explains Malcolm. “It felt like a great thing to do, work with Malcolm while we’re figuring out what we wanna do,” Barrie concludes, “let’s just go in and do some playing and see what happens, and we came out with more than we ever intended.” Quatermass Seven delivers a dark, deep and expansive set of grooves, layered with frazzled and flawless guitar and flowing melodies, as well as pointing toward a future of exciting new musical opportunities. “Still here, so fine, just a little darker state of mind” sings Cadogan on ‘Steel Drum’, words which sum up hope in times of uncertainty, whilst unintentionally offering a perfect description of Quartermass Seven.

In 2018, Meyhem Lauren teamed up with Brooklyn-based producer Harry Fraud to bring you Glass. The original 9-track project featured Action Bronson, Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, Big Body Bes and more. For Glass 2.0, the duo went back to the archives and as the quarantine started, they began to revisit all of the music they recorded together while recording the original Glass. “Meyhem and I had some new records and a bunch of demos and that we hadn't done post-production on yet. Over the course of about a week in May, I locked in and pretty much tore the songs apart production wise. Then rebuilt them into what would become Glass 2.0” – Harry Fraud “Me and Fraud had a bunch of unfinished music in the stash that was recorded during the time that we made the original Glass project. During quarantine extra spices were added and a new dish was born. To make a long story short, sometimes the leftovers taste better than the initial meal.” – Meyhem Lauren While the majority of Meyhem’s vocals were recorded in 2017-2018, Harry Fraud’s tailor-made production of each song gives Glass 2.0 a sound and style unique from its predecessor. While the second installment of Glass only features Big Body Bes and Bags, this leaves plenty of time for Meyhem to showcase his lyrical ability, which is especially sharp on “Poseidon’s Wrath”, “Root of Evil” and “Yucca” (all previously unreleased in any format). A respected staple of the modern underground hip-hop scene, Meyhem Lauren is no stranger to the game. Having been on the scene since the mid-2000s, Meyhem is best known for blending his “luxury rap” flows over production reminiscent of 90s east coast hip-hop. Throughout his career, he has worked closely alongside DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, Madlib, Freddie Gibbs, Czarface, Sean Price, Roc Marciano, J-Love, and his childhood friend, Action Bronson. Their friendship is evident in the Viceland television show F*ck, That’s Delicious, in which Meyhem is featured alongside Action in each of the episodes. Harry Fraud’s production first popped off on “New York Minute” for French Montana before the two delivered the breakout “Shot Caller” in 2011. “In some ways, it's reminiscent of our first two albums The Budos Band and Budos II,” says Tom Brenneck. “We branched off on Burnt Offering and Budos V. Now, we're still moving forward. You can play these songs on the dance-floor. We knew the horns had to stand out too. Thinking about hip-hop allowed us to put the bounce back into The Budos.”

This is evident from needle drop to final rotation. Heavy drum breaks, reminiscent of the BBoy approved grooves of their early output reign supreme, setting the stage for the pulsating, hallucinatory wall of organ, menacing horns, and rugged guitar riffs to permeate your soul - leaving the listener in a rhythmic wash of Budonian rapture.
