The Blackstones were formed by Leon Leiffer in 1974. Since the initial group formation, there have been several line up changes, currently the group consists of: Leon Leiffer, Tony Mahoney, Jr. Bailey, and they have recently been joined by A.J. Franklin (Chosen Few, Federals). On tours they have supported Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, Rufus Thomas, Dennis Brown, Owen Grey, John Holt, Alton Ellis and many more Soul / Reggae greats.

Over the years they have worked with many notable Jamaican producers, Count Shelly, Fatman, Phill Pratt, Lloyd Charmers, Lindel Lewis, Tony “Ruff Cut” Phillips, Winston Curtis, Jah Larry, Tony Owens, and the late great Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee and the legendary, Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd, at Studio One in JA.

This release features two rootical vocal sides of their consistent repertoire. The 4 track EP features a re-work of “Selection Train” (Orig,”Selected Few”-JA) and “Hell & Heaven” (Orig-Lloyd Clarke-JA). BopdyParts Vinyl long-awaited twenty-ninth release welcomes veteran Tommy Vicari jnr to the imprint with "No You Neednt Explain EP", a groovy four-track solo release spanning from warm, deep minimal to shuffle house dancefloor stompers. Tommy Vicari jnr has made all sorts of dance music over the past two decades, usually proof-ready for the most refined dance floors worldwide.

The EP's first and title track, 'No You Needn't Explain' (a1), fully displays Vicari's signature: syncopated beats, shuffled squicky basslines and exquisitely looped samples for maximum dancefloor hypnotism. 'Issacgroove' (a2) continues the story with its slapping drums on top of deep pads and percussive samples, creating a particularly jazzy atmosphere full of quirky filtered samples for added funk. On the flip side and in pure Vicari fashion, 'Anytime' (b1) doubles down on pitched-up vocals and sampled guitars & keys, reminiscent of the early 00's French House era. 'Chapter and Verse' (b2) closes the EP with a slightly eerie tone and a total focus on the atmosphere and its apparently non-stop groove. Rio-born, Joyce Moreno, is one of the greatest Brazilian artists of all time. The voice, the playing, the writing, they all combine to make her a true allrounder. She possesses the ability to transport, captivate and transcend listeners. With a career that has spanned more than 30 albums and over 50 years, she continues to record and tour the world.

‘Aldeia de Ogum’ is one of her most well-known songs. With a joyfully jazzy arrangement, building Latin percussion, Brazilian flute and tropical atmosphere, this full-bodied samba smash became an anthem amongst London’s DJs and dancers in the Acid Jazz days. A favourite of Patrick Forge and Gilles Peterson, it was regularly spun at their legendary Dingwalls sessions.

Originally featured on her sought after Feminina LP from 1980, it also appears on our 'Essential' Joyce compilation from 1997. The original pressing of this Brazil 45 was the first time the track had been released on 7".

A fellow Rio native, Rosinha was a highly acclaimed composer, arranger and guitarist who played with legends including Baden Powell, Sérgio Mendes and Sivuca.

Here we present her stunning cover of the Gershwin classic, ‘Summertime’. Rosinha’s elegant, instrumental interpretation showcases her majestic guitar playing, and what a player she was! Backed with beautifully arranged, emotion-drenched strings, this track is guaranteed to stir your soul.

'Summertime' is taken from her 1975 RCA LP entitled Um Violão Em Primeiro Plano. The original pressing of this Brazil45 was the first time the track had been released on 7".

Belgium's Greg Naïro is making a name for himself with deep, thoughtful productions. Versatile and elusive, he doesn't restrict himself to one musical universe. For his debut Dawn rill Dusk outing, the producer showcases his pedigree through four elegant deep house originals that demand repeated plays.

The summery deep vibe of 'Ledonia' is intoxicating. A warm two-finger bassline runs across snappy drums awhile lush synths and leads dance with a repeating vocal refrain that feels cheerful. This is refined yet compelling dance music.

On 'Morlina' the class levels are turned to 11. Sparkling keys and a sensual synth accentuate a super deep rhythm that doubles as a brass instrument. All the elements combine for a mature dance experience which reminds of smokey jazz clubs and illegal speakeasies.

The vocal delivery on 'Panaray' is exquisite, an escape to a deep house holiday we all deserve. With grooving bongos and shuffling hats, this feels exotic, but the elongated bassline ground the track to its true nature: High-quality dancefloor music.

The drums and percussion are stripped away on the Ambient mix of 'Panaray', letting the rest of the elements do what it does best: creating tranquil states of mind in highly uncertain times.

A lifelong friendship is formed over their shared love of doo-wop. The kids start learning harmony and the next thing they know they're cutting records. The group begins to gain steam as they take their act to the packed clubs around New York City. But history has other plans for the boys. First, The Beatles invade America, making doo-wop yesterday's news. Then, the United States invades Vietnam and two of the five boys are sent off to the jungle.Reintroducing: The Splendids. 61 years after their initial formation, the group has reconvened to cut two truly breathtaking records. With three of the five surviving original members weaving together heartfelt harmonies, the group has regenerated themselves and enlisted the help of multi-platinum soul singer Eamon to sing lead. Eamon is no stranger to doo-wop, as he got his start in the music business touring the Northeast as a young boy with a group his father Walter formed in the 90's. With this father and son reunion on these two tracks, the listener is taken back to a time when walking down the street you might come across a gang of youth singing their hearts out on a street corner, serenading the city with their souls. The Splendids hired Los Angeles based producer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Ubick to produce the records and conjure up the retro rhythm and blues sounds of the 1960's. Frequent Eamon collaborator the Oklahoman Benj Heard was then brought on to mix and produce the vocals. Both Ubick and Heard's sonic fingerprints add texture and groove to the groups legacy on 'Cry Baby Cry' and 'Blame My Heart'.Generations have come together from coast-to-coast to take back what history took from them. In both cases, one of the surprising features is the hypnotic, incessant groove, capable of drawing the listener into a sound universe full of cosmic percussion and atmospheres, enhanced by Dennis Coffey-style guitars and by a Deodato-like Fender piano. These two inspiring producers provide their modern touch to the contemporary dancefloor continuum: dBridge offers an up-to-date hybrid that straddles the line between techno and breakbeat, while Baracs extended mix is a deep and hypnotic journey through space.

dBridge represents a milestone when it comes to UK dance music. Being part of the legendary drum and bass group Bad Company in the late 90s, running his extensive label Exit Records, and regularly releasing on Boddikas Nonplus, Metalheadz, as well as R&S, he has gained an enviable reputation as a specialist with a modern take on techno and breakbeat variations.

Romanias up-and-coming Barac has released a double record on Rareshs Metereze imprint among others, has recently launched his own platform with Moment, and is inarguably one of the top creative minds emerging from the vivid ourown / sunrise scene. The selection of these particular producers is the result of Konrad Black simultaneously considering his past while embracing the future. His affinity for dBridge goes back longer than a decade when Konrad was working for Virus Recordings in London, making dBridge an ideal conduit for the Drum and Bass aesthetic that still courses through both artists veins. Barac represents a new wave of artists whose music exists as a crystal ball depicting an ideal future for techno music on the whole. "Because I'm the one most responsible for the lyrics, I actually allowed myself to open up to some personal things," admits Flavia. "We lost both of our fathers. My father died of COVID. But my relationship with my father was non-existent. He abandoned me and my sister. It was a very difficult relationship and it's not so easy for me to talk about it. 'Keep Dancing' is about his death and how he still has a power over me and bringing me down and what it's like to break free from that. You know, some parents are cruel." "It's a special subject to sing about and to make pop music out of," says Martin. "It's actually celebrating moving on and I think that's really fantastic. 'Keep Dancing' is absolutely smashing." It talks about traveling and leaving your loved ones behind. Any musician on the road can relate to this. Although you can have a great time around the world, you're always missing someone. Home is really where your love is. We are very proud of this track, and on top of it we have a guest vocalist. The legendary singer La La Brooks - yes, from The Crystals, the lead voice on the classic 'Da Doo Ron Ron', one of our favourite Phil Spector produced songs of all time. To have La La singing with us is an absolute delight and honour. It's so surreal that we haven't even realised it has really happened! Superb 45 featuring two Hammond-led instrumentals!We caught up with Mr Guy Hamper for an insightful Q&A_ Q: What a cracking single this is! 'Instrument of Evil' in particular has a very eerie vibe. What was the inspiration for it?A: The track is the sequel to '7% Solution', which featured on the last Guy Hamper Trio LP with Thee Headcoats standing in as rhythm section. A 7% Solution being the amount of morphine Dr Watson administered to Sherlock Holmes. For 'Instrument of Evil' I took Sherlock Holmes' later designation of his syringe as "an Instrument of Evil". This is originally a quote from the bible: "Wicked men do at times reject God's purpose for the state, transforming the good of civil government into an instrument of evil." Point of interest: Morphine addiction happens to tie in with another aspect of the song. In the section that nods to Elmer Bernstein's main title theme to the film of the book The Man With the Golden Arm, in which the main character is also a morphine addict. Another ingredient - we added six-string bass to that section in tribute to Jet Harris - he formerly of top group The Shadows, who recorded a great version of Bernstein's classic. To top it all off the record sleeve references the fine graphics of the great Saul Bass. Phew!Q: The track features contributions from Tom Morley (trumpet) and Anna Jordanous (sax). What's it like working with them?A: They are great and easy to work with. I basically make a playground and let them loose in it with very little direction, apart from pointing out the swings and location of the roundabout. I told Tom "You're a Spanish trumpeter stood on a hill in Spain." For Anna, I think we said "go low and nasty." Q: On the flip side you have 'Incense Rising From a Censer'. A very evocative title for an evocative track. Do you have lyrics in mind for this for a possible later release?A: No lyrics have sprung to mind as yet - but it's always possible. The title is from The Elders observation in Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, a b...

Luv Shack Records is celebrating 10 years with a set of classic tracks from the back catalogue getting remix treatments for todays dancefloors on the Retroscope 01 EP.

The opening track is a remix of Space Echo's "Come Back Home" by none other than Norwegian producer extraordinaire Prins Thomas. His 11 minute revision of the 2014 hit balances countless layers of funky guitar riffs, moogish leads und meticulously layered disco drums, resulting in an ever evolving trippy cosmic masterpiece.

Hot on the Heels of Prins Thomas' remix, Rotciv takes Rising Seed´s "Train to Kismarton" to Italo town, adopting only the eerie western guitars from the original, whilst building a wonky 80s sound carpet of analogue arpeggios and punchy DMX drums around it.

The Golden Boogie Connection delivers their super lush rework of Space Echo´s "Soul Power" with a tight, organic groove, witty extra instruments such as funk guitars, disco strings and beautifully light footed vocals. What a package!

Next up, Luv Shack newcomer Endrik Schroeder takes on "Wake Up" by Neon Amish & Space Echo. His remix blends the synth goodness of the original with powerful disco-house drums, unleashing a hi-energy vibe thats both uplifting and nostalgic, once encorporating the vocals of Tarek Farwati on the original remix and leaving even more room for the synth pads on the dub remix.

The son of a radio DJ who introduced him to the world of record collecting, Harris grew up with music, progressing from violin, to high school drumline, to the Jazz Studies program at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also continued working with other instruments and developed an interest in sampling. His development as a producer – at first, without a computer or sampler – came first learning to replay samples on the drums, piano, bass or guitar.
DJ Harrison finds himself inspired by local musicians in the Richmond scene that’s as diverse and nonexclusive as they come. Among rappers, producers, punks and bluegrass bands, he falls within reach of an expansive pool of musicians to collaborate with. He lives and works in Jellowstone, a house turned recording compound occupied by his band mates in Butcher Brown, a “garage punk jazz funk” group

Out of the ashes of Toledo's Henry and June arose the mighty Soledad Brothers. This recording is the Soledad Brothers doing what they did best - houserockin' blues in full Midwestern malaise. This single was recorded in 1998 at Jack White's house on Ferdinand Street in southwest Detroit and was the band's debut release.

As key players in a scene of like-minded minimalist garage groups, vocalist, guitarist and master of harmonica Johnny Walker and drummer/future Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank, were playing shows in Detroit so often, it eventually just made sense for Ben to pay Jack rent and become his roommate. This single features Jack playing a metal snow shovel on the B-side, ''Johnny's Death Letter''.

With Lukas Lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. Out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as "This Is Why" EP. The A-Side kicks off with the discoish banger "Q&H" and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by Lorenz Rhode - not only famous for his releases on Compost Records or Exploited but also for taking Detroit-Swindle-Liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. The deeper side of Lukas' sound is represented on the B-Side. Starting with edgy piano chords, "Solid/Fragile (Coexistence)" introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. With its distinctive strings, "Nothing But A Heartache" makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

Inspired by his Dansbar diversions, Todd took to the studio for a little multitrack mania, replaying every part of this doomy dancer with all the Olsen sparkle you could ever wish for. Luring Det Gylne Triangel back into the booth for the first time in 25 years (possibly in his trusty Delorean!), Terje topped off the pops with a newly recorded vocal from the original lyricist, closing the temporal loop and opening the door to dance floor nirvana.

This voyage takes you to the final frontiers and beyond where you might even encounter strange aliens like the Pianoctopus, known to sneak its tentacles into the ears of unsuspecting astronauts and to tickle their skullcaps from the inside. By the way, during our flight we might experience turbulences which you will experience as sudden, adrenaline-loaded outbursts of euphoria. They are caused by transdimensional discharges along the wings of our spaceship, a phenomenon known as Interplay.
