DESCRIPTION

Death Waltz Recording Co. is delighted to revisit not only one of our favorite HALLOWEEN sequels, but one of our favorite sequels period. It’s been a long, hard road for HALLOWEEN III: THE SEASON OF THE WITCH to be accepted within the HALLOWEEN franchise, but it is now widely considered to be one of the best horror movies of the ‘80s.

The packaging for this release is also completely singular and jaw-dropping; designed by Alan Hynes (the wizard behind our FIGHT CLUB and ANOMALISA releases) it’s unlike all of our other re-issues in this series. It’s still designed to fit in the collectors box and really helps solidify what an outlier HALLOWEEN III is in the overall series.

The film is unique not only due to it lacking Michael Myers (save for a brief appearance on a TV screen) but also for its score. John Carpenter and Alan Howarth completely jettisoned their previous work and deliver nothing short of an electronic masterpiece. The lead track ‘Chariots Of Pumpkins’ is an epic 4/4 beat-driven synth-banger that has regularly been played by DJs over the last 10 years. The rest of the score features lush pads, Linn drums aplenty and veers from beautiful blissed-out ambient drones to sinister stinger-driven mood pieces. Absolutely outstanding stuff.

"Gilles Peterson has been given the keys to Warner’s impressive Jazz back-catalogue and hand-selected Yusef Lateef’s legendary Detroit Latitude 42° 30' Longitude 83° for Arc Records next release. This is the first time the album has been reissued on vinyl since its originally came out in 1969. The album is Lateef’s nostalgic love-letter to his hometown and one of the rawest works in his catalogue but the record looks forward as well as back. The compositions are laced with the seeds of 70s Jazz Funk that would come to dominate the following decade. Arc Records have given this overlooked piece in Lateef’s oeuvre a bespoke reissue treatment. The audio has been remastered in mono from the original tapes by legendary engineer Bernie Grundman - best known for personally mastering industry landmarks such as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, Prince’s “Purple Rain” and Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” among many others. The artwork, printed on heavy-weight card, is faithful to the original down to the 1960’s-style tip on sleeve and features the original sleeve notes alongside updated liner notes. The record itself is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. The release is physical only and limited to just 2000 copies."

Original songs were built into the show’s DNA and set the series’ signature tone — sometimes educational, oftentimes irreverent, and always, always gut-bustingly hilarious.

Surprisingly, this classic music has never before been collected on vinyl. We at iam8bit are teaming up with our friends at WaterTower Music to correct that.

Introducing…Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs (Soundtrack from the Original Series) Vinyl Soundtrack! Meme-spawning classics like “Yakko’s World” and silly send-ups like “I Am the Very Model of A Cartoon Individual” are all represented here, performed by The Animaniacs themselves and presented in their full glory on classic black vinyl.

But what would Animaniacs be without golden-age-inspired cel-tacular cartoon art? We tapped an absolutely prolific cabal of iconic Animaniacs alumni, new and old: Original character artist Dan Haskett, who has touched classics like Scooby-Doo!, and Looney Tunes, storyboard artist Tony Craig, whose expansive credits include Ben 10 and House of Mouse, and Roman Laney, who helped build El Tigre, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and so much more. “Avada Kedavra Deluxe,” by Seattle rapper AJ Suede, is a 21-track, self-produced, self-referencing, double-vinyl labyrinth of experimental boom-bap. Building on a signature style that Spin magazine describes as “stream-of-consciousness rhymes, containing everything from socio-political commentary and blunted cinematic allusions to psychedelic visions,” Suede’s creation is as compelling as it is unclassifiable. On the first LP, Suede demonstrates his substantial skills as a beatmaker and rapper, chopping up what Seattle’s Kexp calls “the smoothest, jazziest, weirdest samples” and overlaying parkour bars about Grunge, success, and social justice. From the first cut, “Nebuchadnezzar,” which New York’s Major Stage describes as a “powerful chant-like hypnotic loop,” these 10 tracks capture an elusive mood of too many hours inside watching YouTube and trying to piece together fractured connections. The album’s title is derived from an Aramaic spell: “Let this thing be destroyed.” On the second LP, Suede invites 13 guests to “destroy” the original songs. This disc of remixes and reworkings showcases underground voices from across the Northwest (Seattle’s Wolftone, Khrist Koopa, Portland’s Fines Double), from across America (New Jersey’s Fatboi Sharif, California’s mudwater, Ohio’s Lord Olo, New York’s Bloodblixing), and around the world (Tel Aviv’s Argov and Japan’s Wazasnics). Seattle rappers Astral Trap, Blake Anthony, Mika’il, and Greg Cypher are featured on a bonus “posse” cut. Recorded in 1986 in Paris and originally released only in France, "Great Friends" mines the John Coltrane spiritual legacy with fervent incantatory playing and an ecstatic charge. Not that alto saxophonist Fortune and tenor man Harper necessarily speak with Trane’s voice, but the intensity of their playing and their use of certain scales and modes produce a Tranelike atmosphere. Drummer Hart (who organized this band at the request of a Japanese promoter), bassist Workman and pianist Cowell form a hard-hitting team alongside the horns. Things begin with “Cal Massey”, a tribute penned by Cowell. Harper sets the spiritual vibe in motion with a big-toned, take-no-prisoners solo. The Texas tenor man has the heaviest low-register sound in the business. On Workman’s “East Harlem Nostalgia”, he chomps into the low notes as a prelude to wailing runs into the upper register. Harper’s up tempo “Insight” is the album’s tour de force, with rippling solos and torrid exchanges between the saxophonists. Fortune’s searing tone is well suited to the exuberant joyride of this performance. The rhythm section can be compared to the McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones triumvirate that backed Trane. Equally heavyweight and agile, it is relentless in its conviction and spiritual attitude. Great Friends is hot. Owen Cordle/Jazz Times
