Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. On 17 March 1978, a mere six months after the release of their self-titled debut, The Boys second album “Alternative Chartbusters” was released (once again, produced by Dangerfield & Steel). As AllMusic recognises, “Alternative Chartbusters” was way ahead of its time, a buried treasure that only got dusted off much later: “Condemned at the time for offering up little more than a straight carbon copy of its predecessor, the second Boys’ album has since ascended to the pantheon of power pop greats, a combination of the band's own inestimable position at the forefront of what, by early 1978, was already a burgeoning movement, and their seemingly effortless grasp of the rudiments of, indeed, a great pop song.” Along with the Sex Pistols, Clash and the Damned, The Boys were part of the first wave of the mid-1970’s UK punk explosion. Armed with an arsenal of killer Steel/Dangerfield songs The Boys became the first UK punk band to sign an album deal in January 1977 and subsequently released two albums, their self-titled debut and the follow-up “Alternative Chartbusters” in quick 7 succession. Highly regarded by the music press and their contemporaries, yet somehow criminally ignored by a wider punk audience, unable to grasp their heritage of vintage rock ‘n’ roll that went back to Chuck Berry courtesy of The Beatles. Their well-crafted songs, together with Steel and Dangerfield’s layered harmonies, even led to them being described as ‘The Beatles of Punk’

The Bolshoi were different. Their songs were dark and subversive, sufficient evidence for many critics to corral them under the"Gothic" banner at the time of their debut album Friends - but they really only "flirted" with Goth. They oozed dark, pensive lyrics supported with inventive pop-goth guitar making them nearly impossible to categorize.The suburban surrealism of the lyrics was rooted in the stories of characters onthe fringes of society rather than brooding romantics, with an undercurrent ofboredom, inadequacy, and violence. For the first time ever on vinyl here are four original Lennon/McCartney compositions which not many people have heard before. All the performaces here were recorded during the January 1969 sessions and were concidered not good enough for the 'Let It Be' and the 'Abbey Road' albums. 1st generation tapes. The first track which spreads all over side 1 is a fine example of how the Beatles could work together, exploring new ideas as this Lennon original devolpes into a jam session around the line of 'I told you before, get out of my door'. In the middle of this track you can hear John discussing accord changes with George while Paul sings this line as a rugh guide. Ringo is in his best form here, you've never heard him using sticks before like that! It's imortant to indicate that this song is NOT 'I found Out' from Lennon's Plastic Ono Band" album of 1970. The opener of side 2, is a also a Lennon track, the longest version ever to appear, a track that could do well along 'Mean Mr. Mustared' and such. Closing the album are two long McCartney Tracks. Fast rockers in the 'Helter Skelter'/I'm Down' tradition. The last one could not appear on any Beatles album as the Feminist Mafia would ban it!
