As a young conservatory student back in 2016, Danish trumpeter Anders Malta was invited to participate in a reunion concert with the legendary Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band. He was so taken with the band and the music, that on the spot he decided that he wanted to form his own.In 2020, Anders Malta Almost Big Band played its first concert, going on to play a monthly residency at Christiania Jazz Club in Copenhagen for the past two years. Their debut album Introducing is set to release on August 23rd on April Records. Since the early days of jazz, the broad sound pallet and dynamic range of the big band has proven irresistible to composers and arrangers. However, the traditional big band, with its 16 16-19 individual moving parts, can also at times, and for differentreasons, be an unwieldy machine to maneuver. Malta s 13 13-piece made up of Denmark s finest young soloists is agile like a small group, retaining the powerful force of the larger orchestra.Belonging to a new generation of musicians with a deep love and knowledge of the jazz tradition, Introducing " sees the band pay tribute to the timeless Hardbop sound of the 50" s and 60" s through the three movement suite Hardbop Conversations "", whilst offering a contemporary European perspective on the classic large ensemble format through Ouverture, Interludium and Epilog ". Lukas de Clerck brings us the ancient greek instrument, the aulos, of which his new interpretation of long form expression is coaxed forth on this tremendous recording.Lukas de Clerck explores a niche of archaeological research in music; the aulos is a historical Greek instrument that Lukas analyzed and reinterpreted by a luthier in modern times_navigating this impression as an artwork or living sculptural object, as there is an absence of historical partitions or written information about how to recreate technique on the instrument. Lukas de Clerck has interpreted information from the rare archaeological resources and visual art of the classical Greek period to recreate both playing technique and possible sound timbres with the instrument. With his contemporary approach to drone, post-minimalist music, and contemporary folk, we find a deeply satisfying and compelling, even playful set of songs, timbral exercises and compositions.An important document of new music meets contemporary archaemusicological research via Stephen O'Malley of SUNN O)))'s label Ideologic Organ._The telescopic aulos is speculative: might it have existed? It takes on features from the historical aulos, a double-reed instrument of which we know how it looked but little about what music was played on it or how it would have really sounded. It's an instrument without the limitations of canon or manual, providing creative freedom and awakening curiosity.The new instrument featured on this album is ancient and futuristic at once. The aulos has no tone holes; instead, each of the two tubes consists of three parts that can slide into each other. In this sense, the metal pipes bear a certain resemblance to the principle of a trombone. However, since both hands are already in use to hold both tubes, the sliding has to be done by way of gravity and the help of a «phorbeia», a leather mask which helps keep the reeds in place. The aulos's material is metal (instead of wood), which gives it a certain electronic allure and intensity, as well...

Collision Course is a collaborative EP by Jay-Z and Linkin Park, released on November 30, 2004. The project was an experimental mash-up album that combined elements of hip-hop and nu-metal, blending Jay-Z's raps with Linkin Park's rock sound. Produced by Mike Shinoda (of Linkin Park) and Jay-Z, Collision Course merges some of the biggest hits from both artists into new, hybrid tracks that fuse their distinct genres.

Collision Course was the result of MTV’s "Mash-Up" series, where artists from different genres collaborated to create new music by combining their songs. The project quickly gained attention because it featured two hugely popular artists from vastly different musical backgrounds.
The EP features six tracks, each a combination of Jay-Z’s iconic verses and Linkin Park’s hard-hitting rock instrumentals and vocals. It brings together Jay-Z's hip-hop classics with Linkin Park’s emotionally charged, alternative rock anthems.

The aggressive guitar riffs and fast-paced production of "Faint" complement Jay-Z’s rapid-fire rhyming, making this one of the more intense tracks on the album.
"Izzo/In the End" – This track mashes up Jay-Z’s hit "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" from The Blueprint with Linkin Park’s massive hit "In the End" from Hybrid Theory. The combination of Jay-Z’s celebratory lyrics with the reflective, melancholic tone of "In the End" creates a unique emotional balance.
"Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer" – This mash-up brings together Jay-Z’s "99 Problems" from The Black Album with Linkin Park’s "Points of Authority" and "One Step Closer" from Hybrid Theory. It’s one of the hardest-hitting tracks on the EP, with aggressive beats and heavy guitars, paired with Jay-Z’s defiant lyrics.

The Ouroborus - that is, the icon of the snake or dragon eating its own tail - appears to some a statement of the brutality of nature. To others of a Gnostic disposition it symbolises the duality of the divine and earthly in mankind. But most commonly, it’s taken simply to mean the endless cycles of death and rebirth that characterise life on this planet. As such, it’s an image that looms large in the world of Goat, the ever-mysterious and endlessly revivifying collective whose latest album marks another adventure above and beyond this particular plane of reality.This may be a band that has named albums both Requiem and Oh Death, yet this eponymous salvo proves yet again that transcendence and metamorphosis are their watchwords. Goat sees this ever-unpredictable outfit summoning rhythmically-driven rituals in unmistakable, uplifting and scintillating style, equally adept at ignitiing dancefloors and expanding minds.

‘One More Death’ and ‘Goatbrain’ are spectacular curtain-raisers, embodying a hedonistic spirit driven by incisive funk and possessed by merciless fuzz/wah-drenched guitar. Yet elsewhere, the band’s love of hip hop is the fuel for the end-credits-epic album closer ‘Ourobourus’ which marries infectious chant to breathless Lalo Schifrin-style breakbeat action. And which also means ultimately, like the titular oldest allegorical symbol in alchemy, we’re right back where we started. As Brad Dourif’s character Hazel Moates intones in the 1979 movie Wiseblood, “Where you come from is gone; where you thought you were going weren’t never there. Cybernetic disco maestro Patrick Cowley returns to Dark Entries with From Behind, a collection of grooving and ecstatic covers of 60s garage and soul cuts. Best known for his chart-topping disco anthems, Cowley left us with an incredible body of work before his tragic death in 1982 due to Aids-related illness. Since 2009, Dark Entries has been working with Cowley’s friends and family to uncover the singular artist’s lesser-known sides, including his soundtracks for films on compilation albums School Daze, Muscle Up, and Afternooners. From Behind reveals yet another facet of Cowley’s myriad influences; garage and soul. As a tripped-out teenage music freak who arrived in 60’s San Francisco, it should come as no surprise that these psychedelic sounds, both heady and visceral, infuse Cowley’s oeuvre. Recorded during Cowley’s most productive period, ‘80-’82, these tracks show the master flexing his virtuosity while paying loving tribute to the songs that shaped him. A rough draft of Loverde’s “Iko Iko” contorts the jaunty Dixie Cups classic into a slithering, monstrous bathhouse groover, the song’s signature claps draped in cavernous reverb. An unexpected hi-NRG cover of The Doors’ “20th Century Fox” has Paul Parker on vocals, ironically twisting the original’s overt heterosexuality. Via Cowley’s vocoder, The Who’s “Shakin’ All Over” is transformed into a haunting meditation on the loss of bodily autonomy that Aids inflicts, while the Moody Blues’ “Ride My See Saw” appears in instrumental, amped up and synthesized for dancefloor impact. We’re also graced with instrumental demo versions of The Seeds’ “Pushin’ Too Hard” and The Electric Prunes’ “Too Much To Dream (Last Night),” which later appeared on Paul Parker releases. Things close out with a swinging version of the Four Tops’ Motown classic “Baby I Need Your Loving”, Cowley later reimagined for R&B artist Carl Carlton. The record comes housed in a sleeve designed by Gwenaël Rattke and includes an insert with photos and liner notes written by Louis Niebur. Arriving on October 19th in celebration of what would have been Cowley’s 74th birthday, From Behind gives us yet another glimpse into Cowley’s world: iconic, erotic, and more than a little cheeky.

Get On Down is proud to present, Commons sophomore album, Resurrection. While the album was originally neglected by the mainstream, it has since received a great deal of critical acclaim and is now on The Sources 100 Best Rap Albums. In comparison to his debut album, Commons musical style evolved lyrically by his expressing of himself rather than just describing street life. With its Jazz and Hip Hop flavors, Resurrection furthered the growth of both genres. Overall, the album is commonly perceived as an underrated Rap classic and now this legendary album is available in a much anticipated, 2xLP gatefold jacket edition.

Resurrection was produced almost entirely by No I.D., who has gone on to work with heavyweights like Usher, Alicia Keys and Rihanna, and he recently produced the first two singles for Jay-Zs new album The Blueprint 3. In addition, No I.D. is credited as the man who introduced Kan ye West to Hip Hop production, inviting him to his sessions with Common when West was only starting out.

Able Noise are a cross-continent duo based between The Hague (nl) and Athens (gr), built around the experimental baritone guitar and drum playing of George Knegtel and Alex Andropoulos. After a few formative attempts at collaboration, they officially came together as the Able Noise we see now in 2017, uniting over shared thoughts on art and performance encountered while studying at The Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Their first recorded work, a seamless 30 minutes of glistening post-rock anti-formalism, emerged in low-key fashion in 2020 as a cassette through Glasgow’s famed Glarc label. Numerous European wide tours and left-of-centre festival appearances led the pair back to the studio for the recording of debut LP, High Tide, to be released via World of Echo on 1st November.

The shift to a studio environment was a significant one, since Able Noise was primarily conceived as a live band, thinking of and writing for the live concert experience specifically. Consider their practice an Active Performance of sorts, one that seeks to challenge understandings of the medium of the live arena, how its properties and limitations can be addressed creatively, and the dialogical relationship between performer and the audience. Those who have caught them live will have witnessed very physical yet malleable performances, shaped each time by the context at hand, be that the time of day, the acoustic properties of the space, and the shared energy of the assembled patrons.

True to this approach, the pair have embarked upon the recording of their debut album with a similar exploratory impetus. In a studio without a physical audience to confront, the questions are suddenly quite different: how does one create a definitive recorded music initially rooted in improvisation, how is that recording then listened to and understood, and, without the spectacle of performance, how is it possible to work with the sense of hearing alone. Unsurprisingly, the music of High Tide is significantly different to that of an Able Noise live set. Minimalism has been traded for a detail-oriented approach, the limitations of two sets of hands suddenly lifted by the possibilities of multi-tracked thinking, post-production and various processing techniques. Real-time gives way to fragmentation, distortion and dilation, and the shift is notable - High Tide is a woozy and often disorientating listen that plays quick and easy with conventional notions of structure, at once both centreless and impressionistic, yet somehow guided by an imagined formless space.

Reliant much less on their own capabilities - and limitations! - as musicians, Knegtel and Andropoulos heartily invited the contributions of friends from both their local Athenian music community and those made while playing the UK, with the important disclaimer given that anything played during the recording session will not sound the same once on record. The result is duos, trios, quartets and sextets playing in different experiences of time, and on dynamic scales vastly different from one another, brought to equal footing.

Critically, the wholesomeness of their creative communion belies the darker theme of inertia that the pair acknowledge runs throughout the album, a sense of bodies of very different weights and momentums existing alongside each other, either adapting to or clashing with one another. In short, the outside world can’t help but seep in, even as you create within your own hermetic universe - the feeling of hopelessness amidst endless political and social strife, obsolescence in the face of technological development, time’s inexorable march. These are things we’ve all felt, and while High Tide, like much before it, doesn’t provide any definitive resolution for these challenges, it does present its own set of unique possibilities written in the shared language of its creators.

We previously welcomed Bristol’s Western Lore doyen Alex Eveson to Sneaker Social Club alongside Posse back in 2019, and now he returns with King Kutlass in tow for a 2 x 12” of heavy duty, darkside rollers.

The Western Lore remit has always been to push at the limits of the jungle template, embracing distinctive twists without losing the fundamentals of the sound, and that comes through loud and clear on this searing workout. From the compression chamber, stepped breaks of ‘Ride The Storm’ to lurid rave game-ender ‘We Control’, this is not club music for the feint hearted. There’s even space for nightmarish 4/4 thrust n’ stabs on ‘Heart Of The Sun’, pointing to the liminal zone where breakbeat hardcore, techno and rave all crossed paths en route to more fully formed stylistic conventions.

That’s the vibe which runs throughout this EP, where the rules feel a long way off and the madcap sample layering is heavily tipped towards psychological annihilation under the stuttering glare of the strobe light.

"That was taken from the 2003 press release for Twinkle Echo, the third album I made under the name Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Originally released on German electronic label Tomlab Records, Twinkle Echo has been out of print for nearly a decade, slowly building a cult audience from a new generation of DIY & indie music enthusiasts, thanks in large part to the album’s availability on streaming services. I’d previously reissued vinyl editions of two later Casiotone for the Painfully Alone albums (2006’s Etiquette & 2009’s Vs. Children) on my own label, Orindal Records, but I had some hesitation about reissuing Twinkle Echo, partially because its hyper, overdriven sound felt so far removed from the music I make now with Advance Base, & partially because this music came from a difficult period of my life that I just didn’t care to revisit. I’ve finally come around to the idea, thanks to the encouragement of some old friends & new listeners.

Twinkle Echo is a rawer & more lo-fi affair than the later Casiotone releases, with its fourteen brief, abrasive electronic pop tunes performed almost exclusively on the cheap, battery-powered synthesizers that gave the project its name.

The Dirty Three – Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White – formed up in Melbourne in 1992, to play with guitar drums and violin or viola, and within a couple years, they’d broken out – out of Australia, out of anything else they might have been inside of, to boot – and got worldwide. Over the next ten years, they toured over and over the planet, ceaseless like, and cut seven albums out along the way. After this, their unique style of play, fitted together like puzzle pieces, was decoupled, more often than not, and pieced together in many other, fruitful collaborations with many other esteemed talents. "Negore" is the second album by the Kenya-based duo Odd Odokko. After their debut "Auma" saw percussionist Sven Kacirek work with pre-existing recordings of singer and instrument builder Olith Ratego, the two opted for a similar approach for the ten pieces to preserve the expressiveness of the latter"s performance. Further contributions by sound artist KMRU and Angel Bat Dawid on bass clarinet expand the duo"s sonic palette which draws on the dodo music of the Luo people and enriches it with percussive, melodic, and occasionally electronic means. The record"s title translates to "petroleum lamp," signifying the transition from day to night-when the time has come to dance. In this decidedly joyful spirit, "Negore" is dedicated to transitions and venturing into the future. Ratego"s interpretation of the folk tradition is expressly contemporary, while Kacirek uses a rich variety of avant-garde and advanced electronic music techniques to propel it even further.

In 2011, the French writer, Ingrid Astier met with the Hanak brothers, Frédéric and JB and expressed a desire to work with them. This came to be in 2013: when the two brothers and their band dDamage appear over in the pages of Ingrid Astier’s novel “Angle Mort” (dead corner), published by Gallimard. In 2014, Ingrid Astier publishes a new book, which stands out from the previous ones due to its poetic character and its alphabet form, “le petit éloge de la nuit” (the Little Praise of the Night), "a magnificent tribute to the power of the night" according to François Busnel. host and producer of La Grande Librairie on French television. The friendship story continues, and this time we see a double-page spread from the book entrusted to the two brothers. Immediately, the desire to bring “le petit éloge de la nuit” (the Little Praise of the Night), to music arose. Ingrid Astier then enabled the bridge between two extremely different worlds, and the improbable meeting between Pierre Richard and JB Hanak took place. In 2017, “le petit éloge de la nuit” (the Little Praise of the Night), was adapted to theater and had a successful run of more than fifty performances at the Rond-Point des Champs-Elysées theatre (Paris), a three-season tour in France, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg, and finally a revival in June 2019 at La Scala in Paris. The three artists met again at the end of 2019, this time wanting to convert all their work into the album format. It will be “Nuit à jour” (Night to Day). Something more pop than their improvised concerts, more glam than their theatrical adaptation. JB Hanak is on guitar, bass, synth and rhythmic programming, consumed with a desire to reveal with each changing track a different facet of this imagined nocturnal universe. Ingrid Astier, is of course involved covering the direction of the actors as well as the writing of the lyrics, very much as would be found in the cinema. And then, there is Pierre Richard. At one moment a dreamer, the next a cowboy, suddenly Mafioso and then a nocturnal animal. Thinker, lover, philosopher, astronaut or sandman. Pierre Richard is an actor, an actor of immense presence confined too often to comic roles. “Nuit à Jour” offers him roles he has not had in the movies ... And it is breathtaking, both in its register and in a sense of deep renewal.

1992’s ‘Untitled’ brought the band’s third album that re-cemented the duo once again as the progenitors of the “lo-fi” genre. This breakthrough set transitioned "The Trux" into a never ending all-inclusive rotating cast of musicians. Continuing Fire Records’ series of classic remastered albums from Royal Trux, ‘Untitled’ is released on white vinyl and features updated monochrome and silver artwork.

As unpredictable as ever, Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema shook off the next level layering and noise of ’Twin Infinitives’ to embrace the history of rock ‘n’ roll in all its deformed grandeur. Utilizing their ever present mind set of macro-inclusivity, they allowed the subconscious "radio stations" of their lives to infiltrate, lead, and dictate. Culling from their collective minds and memories twisted tunes that touched them. After the blood rush of their much-hailed avant-garde masterpiece ‘Twin Infinitives’ (1988), this eight-song opus added to the lo-fi genre that originated on ‘Twin Infinitives’.

On ‘Untitled’ Hagerty uses his 5-string blues roots and hails rock’s twisted potential, while Herrema slurs and snarls in ecstasy. They sound like they’re locked in a fourth-floor boudoir at the Chelsea Hotel; bottles clink, an album clicks on its run-out groove, the band plays on. In the mix are the characters and casualties of the 90s, a roll call of swaggering misfits. These aren’t superficial sketches, the Trux cut much deeper than that…

As an homage to the average length of a pop song, the title symbolizes the question of the why of one's own creativity, the art of switching off in these times and the unforgettable pleasure of a fleeting moment. The ten tracks on the record examine various topics, mostly in a critical examination of current social developments. For example, "Hängepeters" denounces the careless handling of the legacy of colonial crimes, while "Lindnereffekt" takes aim at the increasing superficiality in politics. Kleiekotzer" takes a critical look at the role of the media in society's shift to the right. But that is only one side of "Für 3 Minuten 11". The Carpe Diem anthem "Panini" shows that things can also be lighter and more liberating, and the song "Pflugschreiber" sends a musical greeting to the pride of Mannheim's adopted city in its pop academy. It is the intense mixture of profound lyrics and energetic sound with a pinch of hope and cheerfulness that makes "Für 3 Minuten 11" the musical equivalent of an intense, short-lived moment to be enjoyed to the full.
