Dislocation Songs was recorded over the past 3 years – on and off – in Chris Menist AKA Awkward Corners' home studio. It started as a reaction to the UK post-2016's Brexit vote and an emotional response to the negative direction the country is taking with regards to immigration, politics and social priorities. The record shifts between optimism and resignation. The recording process offered emotional catharsis, and a space to summarise feelings that can be hard to put into words. The record is a collection of textures, rhythms and tones touching on downtempo beats, devotional music and electronic sounds. Music you can even meditate to. Chris is joined for three tracks by Sarathy Korwar, who plays tablas in this setting.

Aver created the first draft of the album between finding out about Joey's passing and attending his funeral. He arranged musical collages out of voice messages and breaks he and Joey had sent one another alongside previously unreleased material he made during lockdown with Doron Segal. The process initially served as a form of musical therapy, but after completing it and sharing it with a few friends, Aver realised that it might also bring joy to other people that knew Joey, as well as introducing those that didn't to the lovely ginger fellow behind Village Live.

The finished album features cuts by Jazz T, Evil Ed and Omas, as well as additional voice messages donated by Kuartz and Matt Smith. Mr. Krum has done all the design work for the the booklet and the gatefold cover, which features a photo-collage by Aver of the Aroe piece outside Rarekind Records, as well as the huge blockbuster at Black Rock, Brighton.

AV Moves is the project of LA’s multi-instrumentalist and experimental composer John Jones, previously known as Nerftoss (see Spirit Advantage Lr034 2014).

Originally written during relocation from Baltimore in Spring 2019, In A Pause is ripe for relevant release in our 2020 larger picture. In collaboration with filmmaker Corey Hughes, time and uncertainty have defined this 35minute-long Audio/Visual ambient textural travel that is In a Pause - out November 6th Leaving Records All Genre Q4 2020.

from the author: "I became more intrigued by the idea of the visual context redetermining how a sound is perceived. It was a bit of an obvious observation, but one that I hadn’t fully explored in the process of writing music. I began creating sounds with the intention of aiding a moment, interacting with light, and enhancing the sensory experience. Gradually the sounds I created became defined by these ideas. Through melody, I found ways of deepening these imaginary scenarios. Melody has a way of extracting an emotion that each individual responds to differently. My intention with the melodic elements on what became “In A Pause” was for it to feel deeply personal but in a way that was relatable.
“In A Pause”, as a title, plays against the underlying motives of the album but is especially in reference to where I was in life when choosing it. Most of what was written happened to be during a transitional phase of my life, the months leading up to moving from Baltimore to Los Angeles. In many ways, I felt I had hit a giant imaginary pause button to prepare for the transition. Unintentionally, the title has taken on a much larger meaning as 2020 has produced various tragedies and injustices. Time and uncertainty have slowly redefined my previous perception of the music."

Brixton electronic label Dream Diary announces the arrival of Abstract Chemistry EP by veteran UK producer and DJ Aubrey. The release marks the seventh in the label’s catalogue.

When Dream Diary were scouting talent for the label’s next round of releases, the name Aubrey came up with enthusiasm. The team met Aubrey in Berlin over a long weekend, inviting him to record his next release for the London label. The only stipulation in the arrangement required that the EP follow the Dream Diary tradition of being written and recorded at Octagon, the label’s home base and recording studio in Brixton.

Aubrey took up the offer and camped out at Octagon for a week in the fall, crafting a house and techno trifecta sprinkled with the studio’s choice collection of analog equipment. On Abstract Chemistry, Aubrey plays into his signature fusion of vigorous grooves and textured sound design, fitting perfectly into Dream Diary’s discography of spirited electronic music.

Active in the UK techno scene since the early 1990s, Aubrey’s prolific output spans nearly a hundred releases over a nearly 30 year career. His third full length album Gravitational Lensing was released earlier this year on Out Electronics Recordings, following recent releases on Assemble Music, Barba Records, Metroplex and Curle Recordings.

On Whenever, the duo continue to move in lockstep. While It Was Never Touted As An "Album" (Sales And Marketing Channels Were Explicitly Informed This Was Intended To Be A Tour Cd Only, "But We Love Our Retail Friends Too"), The Caliber Of Music On This Release Stands With Anything Else From Atmosphere's Catalog. Hard-Hitting Tracks Like "Until The Nipples Gone" And "The Loser Wins" Brought A Commanding Energy To The Project, As Well As Their Live Performances, While "The Best Day", One Of The Most Popular Songs From Atmosphere's Entire Catalog With Its Honest And Upbeat Message Of Humility, Was Also Featured On This Release. The pioneering electronic composer Mort Garson (Mother Earth's Plantasia) takes on supernatural phenomena with lush synth grooves on The Unexplained, his only release under the name Ataraxia. Subtitled Electronic Musical Impressions of the Occult, the album explores tarot, astral projection, seances, and more with Garson's signature Moog synthesizer serving as the listener's tour guide to the paranormal. The exploratory, whimsical spirit of its creator is evident throughout the release, but it also takes its subject matter seriously, making it essential for anyone interested in musical conjurations of the occult. This remastered edition marks the first official reissue of the album since its initial 1975 release, and it includes all the original liner notes. About Mort Garson: Morton S. "Mort" Garson was a Canadian-born composer, arranger, songwriter, and pioneer of electronic music. He is best known for his albums in the 1960s and 1970s that were among the first to feature Moog synthesizers. His best-known album is Mother Earth's Plantasia, a 1976 Moog album designed to be played "for plants and the people who love them." Sacred Bones Records has undertaken the project of giving official, licensed reissues to key releases from Mort Garson's catalog, with the intention of bringing these bold masterpieces to a 21st century audience.

The next release in the Phonica Special Edition series comes from Ukrainian duo Asyncronous who first came to our attention after hearing their critically acclaimed debut on Berlin label Slow Life, 'The Art of Fighting In A Dream'. A Phonica favourite, it provided the soundtrack to many days in the shop throughout the year, culminating in its inclusion in our top ten Best Singles of 2019! The Phonica Special Edition series is focused on one-off projects, special remixes or collaborations, highlighting music that is slightly left of the dance floor and pairing it with unique artwork. This time featuring a beautiful piece by celebrated Ukrainian artist, Mykyta Storozhkov. The pair initially joined forces in an effort to explore human imagination and life experiences through music, focussing on creating feelings and atmosphere rather than be constrained by genre limitations. The result on this EP is a hazy cosmic trip through their universe of synth swells, deep sub bass and meticulous percussion.
