This miracle piece was recorded and mixed by Bunsho Nishikawa, mastered and cut by Rashad Becker, and cover art by Tomoo Gokita. The memorable first LP by 'goat', an instrumental group led by Koshiro Hino, a.k.a 'ypy', is a reorganization of the best performances from their first and second albums, "New Games" and "Rhythm & Sound". They create music with noises, muted sounds, and pulsing sounds that are produced when the instruments are pronounced, and the nature of their expression inevitably makes performance a hellish ordeal for the performer by overworking the body and nervous system. The sound is imprinted with the urgency of a performer absorbed in their performance, and the vibrations of this tingling physiological state are clearly felt by the listener, and may even cause a sense of physical exhaustion, as well as mental fatigue.

Mr Bongo’s Brazil 45’s series serves up another pair of Brazilian classics in the form of Rita Lee & Tutti Frutti ‘Agora É Moda’ and Pete Dunaway ‘Supermarket’.

'Agora É Moda' is a psychedelic, disco-boogie-groove monster brought to our attention by Greg Caz and Sean Marquand aka Brazilian Beats Brooklyn. Originally released on Rita Lee’s 1978 album Babilônia LP on Som Livre, this sublime track is drenched in squelching guitar licks, funk drums and sensuous cosmic vocal flavours.

Lee was the lead singer of Brazilian psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes and a hugely important figure in the Tropicalia movement. She sadly passed away in 2023 but her legacy well and truly lives on, loved both in and out of the music world.

On the flip side, Pete Dunaway’s ‘Supermarket’ is a rare groove/AOR masterpiece with a killer bassline, swaggering guitar and luscious string section layered with a perfectly delivered English vocal.

Pete Dunaway, real name Otavio Cardosa was a singer, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist from Sao Paulo, who spent the majority of his time composing for TV themes and library instrumentals.

Physically and mentally draining in the best way possible, Wet Will Always Dry is maybe the most complete statement from Blawan to date, and as such should be ignored at your peril. This becomes evident from the album-opening “Klade,” a dizzying, tumbling flight of pure energy over overlapping fields of electrified menace. This sets the stage for “Careless,” which retains the hazardous, crackling atmosphere but dials back the intensity just enough to make room for a new feature, Blawan’s eerie and disembodied vocals.
“Tasser” ratchets up the tempo and the frenetic energy yet more, slinging chunks of audio shrapnel and grinding factory noise over the kick-heavy beat, only letting up the tension every now and then for a convulsive breakdown. By the arrival of “Vented,” a more steady, cycling groove has set in along with the accompaniment of suspenseful melodic swells, but the element of surprise is far from gone: there still seem to be spectral entities lurking around every corner, and there’s no shortage of intriguing tumbril weirdness blowing around the imaginary streets that this track conjures up.
The slamming “North” keeps alive the record’s persistent, darkly humorous feeling that things are about to go off the rails at any moment, using wildly contorted sequences and granular debris to shift between total abandon and regimented strictness. A moment of relative calmness, along with the return of the atmospheric vocals, comes about with “Stell,” a faintly dubby track that leaves an impression like watching streams of traffic progress underneath rolling, deep grey clouds.
“Kalosi” brings back the percussive motif of “Tasser” and “North,” this time partnering it with loops that bring to mind radioactive bass strings. “Nims” then shuts things down with infectious harp-like sequences, fuzz-shrouded percussion and an ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ mentality towards filtering and processes which will get the attention of all but the most jaded soundhead.

Fifteen of the 19 tracks contained in Endless Poetry: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack were composed and performed by Alejandro's son Adan Jodorowsky (AKA Adanowsky), who also stars in the film, portraying his own father as a young man. Multi-instrumentalist composer/arranger Jon Handelsman contributed four songs to the soundtrack. "Sueño sin fin" was composed and arranged by both Handelsman and Alejandro Jodorowsky (the filmmaker's own contribution to Endless Poetry: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Described by Variety as "a work of disciplined and touching emotional resonance," Endless Poetry details Alejandro Jodorowsky's life in his 20s. Against the wishes of his authoritarian father, the protagonist leaves home to pursue his dream of becoming a poet, and is introduced to the bohemian and artistic inner circle of Santiago, Chile in the 1940s and 50s. He meets Enrique Lihn (Leandro Taub) and Stella Diaz (Pamela Flores), two unknown poets who would become driving forces of twentieth century Hispanic literature. Told through a unique surreal and psychedelic visual language, with a soundtrack to match, Endless Poetry is an ode to the quest for beauty and inner truth as a universal force capable of changing one's life forever.

James Brown had several incredibly talented funky divas in his late 60s and early 70s stable, including Vicki Anderson and Marva Whitney. But as great as those two powerhouse singers were, Lyn Collins was the strongest hitmaker of that funky JB era. Her strong voice and commanding stage presence - which earned her the nicknames The Female Preacher and Mama Feelgood - quickly proved to be a potent addition to the People Records universe. In the spring of 1972 her second single, the driving and ridiculously funky “Think (About It)” hit the R&B music world like a ton of bricks. As fans young and old know, thanks to its timeless, relentless groove and powerful vocals, “Think” gained a powerful second life in the 1980s thanks to the hip-hop generation, fueling the platinum smash “It Takes Two,” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock in 1988 and additionally sampled by dozens of hip-hop and dance music artists up to the present day. But Collins was far from a one hit wonder: she was as vocally adept on ballads as she was with full-blown funk. She proves this throughout her debut album, which was released in 1972 on James Browns new People Records - the imprint's second full-length release. To wit, aside from the title smash: a powerful and emotional cover of Bill Withers "Ain’t No Sunshine"; the socially progressive "Women’s Lib"; the Gamble & Huff-penned "Never Gonna Give You Up" (originally done by Jerry Butler); and even a daring, muscular take on the song “Fly Me To The Moon,” made famous by, among others, Frank Sinatra. Throughout Think (About It), Collins shows that she was a vocal force to be reckoned with. Backed by a James Brown assembled musical crew that included Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley and, of course, James Brown himself, the platter was bound to impress and succeed. And that it did.

REMASTERED BY STEVE ALBINI AND BOB WESTON AT CHICAGO MASTERING!Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7". After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7". Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7" were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7" of The Model/He's A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). Narin Yaln?zl?k, She Past Away's second LP from 2015, was highly anticipated. Their first album, Belirdi Gece, introduced the Turkish trio's post-punk sensibilities over danceable beats-a concoction of melancholy sounds that gripped the darkwave scene. With Narin Yaln?zl?k, Volkan Caner, Idris Akbulut, and Doruk Öztürkcan approach their signature sound with a richer, fuller angle. It is more mature, less monotone: it shimmers in all shades of grey. The LP-whose title translates to "delicate solitude" in English-reflects the complacency of life, the staleness and despair of a soul caught deep in the throes of depression. She Past Away began the vanguard of darkwave artists in the 2010s. With Caner's deep, wearied vocals and their punchy drum machine, it's easy to compare them to certain 1980s bands that are heroes in the goth scene (The Cure, Clan of Xymox, Sisters of Mercy) but the band maintains a sound all their own with Narin Yaln?zl?k. Here, the tradition is upheld but transformed into something new. "Soluk" begins the album with high expectations, replete with war cries that shriek from beyond. Much like the band's previous release, the focus is on the severity of drums that move along the music-"Asimilasyon" is a great example of that. The song recalls the uncanny, a sense of foreboding, and the fear of not knowing who or what is watching from the shadows. "Uzakta" takes the excitement down with its slower, guitar-laden post-punk ballad. Here, She Past Away sounds more like The Cure than they ever have, displaying the fragility of longing and loss. The following song, "Narin Yaln?zl?k," shines through with an usual atmosphere of hope (one derived from the minimal wave movement) that glimmers through the sad guitars. But no, the hope does not remain for long. "Hayaller?" (which translates to "dreams?") dives back into the depths of sorrow with its ultimate gloom.
