Ursprünglich im Oktober 1950 veröffentlicht, war "Sing and Dance With Frank Sinatra" das erste vollständig durchdachte Big-Band-Jazz-Album des Sängers, das auf einer modernen Langspielplatte erschien. Die limitierte Jubiläums-LP- zum 70. Geburtstag enthält seltenes, bisher unveröffentlichtes Session-Material, Outtakes und alternativen Gesangsaufnahmen aus den Original-Sessions und bietet den exquisiten Klang in audiophiler Qualität, für den Impex Records bekannt ist.

Die in Zusammenarbeit mit Sony Music's Legacy Recordings entstandene Deluxe-Wiederveröffentlichung wurde vom bekannten Sinatra-Produzenten, Autor und Historiker Charles L. Granata produziert und vom sechsfachen Grammy-Gewinner Andreas Meyer restauriert und remastered. Die 33-rpm-lp wurde von Chris Bellman bei Bernie Grundman Mastering, Hollywood, geschnitten und erscheint auf 180-Gramm-Premium-Vinyl (gepresst bei Rti). Jede Ausgabe enthält ein umfangreiches, von Robert Sliger gestaltetes, vollfarbiges Booklet mit einem umfassenden historischen Essay, einer vollständigen Diskografie/Personenliste und detaillierten technischen Anmerkungen von Granata sowie einer großzügigen Auswahl an seltenen Fotos, Werbegrafiken und unveröffentlichten visuellen Ephemera, die das Album betreffen. Die ausführenden Produzenten sind Abey Fonn und Bob Bantz.

Dieser unverzichtbare Sinatra-Klassiker - mit den Swing-Arrangements von George Siravo - markiert einen Schlüsselmoment in der Geschichte der Popmusik des 20. Jahrhunderts und steht für den Übergang des Sängers vom zarten Schnulzensänger zum hippen, swingenden Sophisten. Diese Auftritte bieten eine makellose Momentaufnahme von Sinatras legendärem musikalischen Können, als er sich für eine neue Richtung in seiner Karriere neu erfand - eine Richtung, die seinen beispiellosen Erfolg in den 1950er und 60er Jahren begründen sollte.

Die 33-RPM-Vinyl-LP wurde analog von den originalen 15-ips-Session-Bändern transferiert, restauriert und gemastert: überragend klingende Master, die seit mehr als fünfzig Jahren unberührt im Tresor von Columbia Records liegen. Phil Upchurch ist ein Gitarrist, der vor allem ein Statement durch das macht, was er nicht spielt. Es gibt andere, die gewagter, schneller und kniffligere Stücke spielen als Upchurch. Aber es gibt nur wenige, die so gefühlvoll spielen. Von seiner entspannten Phrasierung bei Nat Adderleys „Jive Samba“ bis hin zu seinen butterweichen Gesangseinlagen bei Steely Dans „Jack of Speed“ und dem bluesigen Titeltrack geht es bei Upchurchs „Tell the Truth“ mehr um pures Gefühl als um Technik.

Gleichzeitig kann er in diesem Bereich absolut mithalten, wie er zum Beispiel auf Roland Vasquez’ “Long Gone Bird” und seinem erstaunlichen Arrangement von Paul Desmonds’ „Take Five“ demonstriert. Die Aufnahme entstand im The Bakery Recording Studio in North Hollywood im Jahr 2001.

2001 debütierte Norah Jones mit dem inzwischen klassischen Album „Come Away With Me“, das auf ganz eigene Art Jazz, Pop, Blues und einen Hauch von Country verschmolz, und es zu mehrfachem Platinstatus und mehreren Grammy-Auszeichnungen brachte.

Norah Jones, die es fast über Nacht zu Weltruhm gebracht hatte, hielt in den kommenden Jahren nicht sklavisch an dem Erfolgskonzept fest, sondern erprobte sich immer wieder, zur Freude ihrer Fans, an unterschiedlichen Sounds und Stilen. So trat sie 2011 als Gastsängerin von Danger Mouse und Daniele Luppi für deren "Rome"-Album auf. Durch diese Zusammenarbeit inspiriert entstand im Jahr darauf das Album „Little Broken Hearts“ in Zusammenarbeit mit Danger Mouse.

Im Juni erscheint zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum neben der remasterten Version des Originalalbums eine Deluxe Edition auf 3 LPs bzw. 2 CDs. Darauf wird neben acht Alternativversionen und Remixen auch eine komplette Liveaufnahme des Albumrepertoires enthalten sein, die Norah Jones 2012 im texanischen Austin City Limits aufgenommen hatte.

The funk fans have been waiting for this one. Finally available on vinyl, Grant Green's near perfect slice of jazz funk and soul, Live at Club Mozambique, remastered and rendered back in the Motor City. Grant Green's band had been playing a series of live dates at Detroit's Club Mozambique, (before it became a fabled Male dance club) when this session was recorded live on two cold January nights in 1971. Powerhouse drummer Idris Muhammad and soulful tenor star Houston Person were brought in to supplement Green's current band featuring Ronnie Foster on organ and Clarence Thomas on Soprano and Tenor Sax and Blue Note producer Francis Wolff recorded. This treasure was never released, though, and (conjectures aside) remained in the Blue Notes vaults for 35 years before a 2006 CD release. Sounding incredibly fresh and live, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more real stamping of Grant Green at the top of his game. The LP blends extremely hypnotic and wild funk such as their opening cover of a local funk hit 'Jan Jan' by the Fabulous Counts next to laidback renditions of early 70's soul favorites 'Walk on By', 'Patches' and 'One More Chance' by the Jackson 5. It perfectly captures the magic of hearing a legendary band effortlessly doing their thing in a small club while the audience unwinds after a long work day. Green pulls it all together with his melodic genius and perfect delivery. Great artists make it seem so easy. No pretensions here, just a great band burning up the stage with unmistakable chemistry on what might be the ultimate jazz funk time capsule. Maybe you can't go back in time, but if you close your eyes and light a cigarette, you might be convinced you're sitting in a wood-paneled club on Detroit's Westside enjoying Grant Green and his band tear it up.

It would be difficult to overstate the importance of the Jones brothers Thad, Hank and Elvin on the world of jazz. Between the three of them, their performances can be heard on literally thousands of recordings, including some of the most legendary sessions ever recorded with some of the greatest artists. Post-War Detroit was really taking notes on the new sounds of jazz coming into favor and the group of former Detroiters included on this album include some of it's most virtuosic students. Thad Jones, (although he was technically from nearby Pontiac, MI) on trumpet, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Tommy Flanagan on piano and Billy Mitchell on saxophone. Jones' first for Blue Note from 1956 stands as a fantastic sounding announcement that the Detroiters had landed in New York and were about to take off. Including legendary players Shadow Wilson on Drums and Oscar Pettiford on Bass; Detroit - New York Junction, a long sought after rarity and a true testament to the importance of Detroit on the evolution of jazz music through Blue Note Records.

Detroit has a long tradition of being the farm team for the Big Apple jazz big leagues, but just as important is the acknowledgement of local legends who left their mark on the city by staying put and releasing amazing music right in Detroit. Kenny Cox and the Contemporary Jazz Quintet is one such group that could have and definitely should have had a wider audience in their day, but their recorded legacy continues to grow in estimation. Der aus Memphis, Tennessee stammende Harold Mabern trug den musikalischen Spirit seiner Heimatstadt in sich und entwickelte sich seit den 1950ern zu einem angesehenen Hard-Bop-Pianisten, der mit vielen großen Namen des Jazz spielte. “Kiss of Fire” ist das erste Album einer Reihe an Veröffentlichungen auf Venus Records, die zwischen 2002 und 2008 erschienen.

Mabern spielt im Trio mit Joe Farnsworth an den Drums und Nat Reeves am Bass, Special Guest ist der Saxophonist Eric Alexander.
