Im März 2017 veröffentlichte die libanesische Sängerin und Songwriterin Yasmine Hamdan ihr mit Spannung
erwartetes zweite Soloalbum "Al Jamilat" (dt.: "Die Schönen"). Bei diesem unterstützten sie hochkarätige
Produzenten und Musiker. Als Koproduzenten waren Luke Smith (Depeche Mode, Lily Allen, Foals) und Leo
Abrahams (Brian Eno, Carl Barat) tätig, bei den Aufnahmen wirkten unter anderem Shahzad Ismaily (Laurie
Anderson, Lou Reed) und Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) mit. Während Yasmines Stimme klar die Traditionen
der arabischen Musik mit einem unkonventionellen und frischen Ansatz wiederspiegelte, waren die Strukturen
und Arrangements der Stücke weit von deren Wurzeln entfernt und bedienten sich an zeitgenössischer
westlicher Elektronik, Pop und Folk. Eine Mischung, die bei Publikum und Kritik sehr gut ankam und nun,
rund ein Jahr später, zu einer Platte mit insgesamt neun Remixen führte. Die stammen von so
unterschiedlichen Acts wie der Pariser Electro-Crew Acid Arab, dem chilenischen Dancefloor-Experten Matias
Aguayo oder dem deutschen Techno-Künstler Shed. Weitere Arbeiten steuerten das Berliner Ensemble
Brandt Brauer Frick, Greg Bauchau von Crammed, Cubenx aus Mexiko, die Griechin Olga Kouklaki George
Bshoum, ein Produzent aus dem Nahen Osten, und die Gesangsikone selbst bei.

35 Jahre nach Erscheinen von Zazou Bikayes zweitem Album Mr. Manager bringt das Label Crammed Discs eine um neun Stücke erweiterte, neu gemasterte Special Edition des Klassikers. Sechs Tracks davon sind bislang unveröffentlicht, drei gab es bis dato nur auf Limited-Edition-Singles. Nachdem der französische Musiker und Produzent Hector Zazou, der Sänger und Komponist Bony Bikaye und der Modular-Synth-Zauberer CY1 für die afro-elektronischen Experimente auf dem 1983 erschienenen, wegweisenden Album Noir et Blanc zusammengekommen waren, wurde aus Zazou Bikaye 1984 eine richtige Band mit eigener Herangehensweise an Afrobeat und Afrofunk.Hector Zazou schrieb und programmierte die Musik und Bony Bikaye erweiterte die extrovertierteren Seiten seiner Stimme. Die beiden nahmen viele neue Stücke auf, von denen letztlich fünf in Form des 32-minütigen Minialbums Mr. Manager erschienen. Es war ausschließlich auf Vinyl über Europa hinaus auch in den USA auf Mark Kamins' Pow Wow-Label sowie in Japan erhältlich.Auf der Vinyl-Version gibt es acht Stücke plus Download-Card für alle vierzehn Tracks; die CD- und Digitalversionen enthalten alle vierzehn Stücke.

1978 nahm der französische Produzent Bernard Treton Sessions von vier "tradimodernen" Bands in Kinshasa auf. Daraus entstand später das wegweisende Album Zaïre: Musiques Urbaines à Kinshasa, das 1986 vom Label Ocora veröffentlicht wurde, ein Album, das zum ersten Mal die später als "Congotronics" bekannt gewordene elektrifizierende Musik einem westlichen Publikum vorstellte.Das jetzt vorliegende Album Kinshasa 1978 (Originals & Reconstructions) von Crammed Discs bietet achtzig Minuten an bislang unveröffentlichten Originalaufnahmen aus diesen Sessions sowie brandneue "Rekonstruktionen" des über seine Zusammenarbeit mit Künstlern wie Fela Kuti oder Don Cherry bekannten renommierten französischen Produzenten und DJs Martin Meissonnier. Die Rekonstruktionen werden auf Vinyl veröffentlicht; der LP sind die bislang unveröffentlichten Originalaufnahmen als CD beigelegt

Die französische Avant-Rock-Band Aquaserge ließ schon immer Genregrenzen verschwimmen. Für die Ausgabe 46 der "Made To Measure"-Reihe widmet sie sich auf The Possibility Of A New Work For Aquaserge der zeitgenössischen klassischen Musik ab Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts: Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988), György Ligeti (1923-2006), Edgard Varèse (1883-1965) und Morton Feldman (1926-1987).Inspiriert von den unterschiedlichen Ansätzen der vier Komponisten in puncto Dynamik, Klangtextur und Länge der Stücke oder genauer gesagt, Scelsis Forschung über Klangfarbe und Schwingungen, Ligetis Cluster, Varèses melodischer Kubismus und Feldmans graphische Notation, ging die Band das Album intuitiv wie auch methodisch in einem auf neun Musiker*innen erweiterten Line-Up an. Das Album enthält zum einen drei langsame, ausgedehnt-weitläufige Stücke, in denen die Klangfarben der Instrumente miteinander zu einer klanglichen Materie verschmelzen. Diese Materie ist gleichzeitig immobil und mobil, wie in einigen Ligeti- oder Scelsi-Werken. Dagegen enthalten die Hommagen der Band an Varèse und Feldman Momente des Ausbruchs und wilder Improvisation. Diese von Aquaserge geschriebenen Kompositionen, werden mit raren Stücken von Edgard Varèse, eines davon auf Basis eines Gedichts von Verlaine. sowie von Morton Feldman mit einem Rilke-Text komplettiert, und zeigen das Gespür der Band für Melodien.

Crammed's legendary MADE TO MEASURE Series of New Music was described at the time as the aural equivalent of a collection of art books. Charting a map of some of the most interesting instrumental music of the era, thirty-five albums came out between 1983 and 1995, including works by artists such as Hector Zazou, John Lurie (his soundtracks for the Jim Jarmusch films), Fred Frith, Arto Lindsay, Zelwer, Steven Brown, Peter Principle, Harold Budd, Brion Gysin, David Cunningham, Benjamin Lew, Ramuntcho Matta, Karl Biscuit, Daniel Schell, Aksak Maboul, Minimal Compact and more. The loose idea behind the title of the series was: this is music which has been or could have been "made to measure" as a soundtrack for other media (film, theatre, dance, video).We'll also be rolling out selected vinyl reissues of some of the series' classic early releases, starting with the inaugural volume, MADE TO MEASURE VOL. 1, the multi-artist album from 1984, containing music created by Minimal Compact, Benjamin Lew, Aksak Maboul and Tuxedomoon for films, theatre plays and dance performances.

Wer den immens druckvollen Live-Sound der französischen Experimental-Popband Aquaserge schon einmal
selbst erlebt hat, wird das bei Konzerten in den Jahren 2016/17 mitgeschnittene Album "Déjà-vous?" zu
schätzen wissen. Das Besondere daran: Die fünf Kern-Bandmitglieder wurden von einer dreiköpfigen
Bläsersektion unterstützt, und das gibt dem von französischer Filmmusik, Psych-Rock und Free Jazz
beeinflussten Sound einen noch jazzigeren Anklang. 2016 entstanden die Aufnahmen während einer kurzen
Tournee, 2017 bei einem Benefizkonzert für die "Tarnac-Gruppe" in Montreuil. Bei diesem Konzert sprang die
bekannte Flötistin Sylvaine Hélary für den normalerweise mit Aquaserge tourenden Tenorsaxophonisten
Robin Fincker ein. "Déjà-vous?" enthält acht Liveversionen von Aquaserge-Stücken, vier davon stammen
vom letzten Studioalbum "Laisse ça être", drei aus früheren Alben. Als besonderen Bonus gibt es eine
Impromptu-Liveversion des Klassikers "My Funny Valentine". Die meisten Stücke sind für den Anlass neu
arrangiert worden; die Stücke 4 bis 8 wurden überarbeitet und fließen auf dem Album nahtlos ineinander über.

ANRMAL ist Juana Molinas erstes Livealbum auf ihrem langen Karriereweg. Es wurde beim NRMAL Festival in Mexiko aufgenommen, kurz bevor die Welt im März zum Stillstand kam, und ist ein Zeitzeugnis, wie die Welt "vorher" einmal war. Durch das kraftvolle Set zieht sich ein so mitreißender Punkrock-Vibe, dass er uns auf bessere Zeiten hoffen lässt.Als Juana Molina vor mehr als zwei Dekaden als Musikerin startete, waren ihre Kompositionen eher reflektiert und auf das Wesentliche reduziert. Zumeist spielte sie Solokonzerte mit ihrer Gitarre, einem Keyboard und Effektgeräten. Über die Jahre wurden ihre Konzerte immer wilder und ihre Platten immer intensiver und extrovertierter, was bei den Tourneen zu ihren letzten Alben zu erleben war.Auf dem am 23.10.2020 erscheinenden ANRML wird Juana Molina von ihren Bandkollegen Odin Schwartz am Bass und Pablo González am Schlagzeug begleitet, die eine Extraportion Energie zum Auftritt beitragen. Das Set enthält Stücke aus Juanas letzten Alben Halo, Wed 21 sowie der Wiederveröffentlichung Un día und der EP "Forfun", alle erschienen bei Crammed Discs. Gemischt wurde das Album von Juana Molinas Toningenieur Marcelo Coca Monte.

Hector Zazou is known for many groundbreaking albums and collaborations, including the Zazou Bikaye LPs. Yet this orchestral suite originally released in 1985 showcases some of Zazou's most exquisite compositional work, fusing a chamber ensemble, some classical and pop vocals, unorthodox production, and an ironical, affectionate take on early 20th century classics (think Satie et al). With evocative song titles such as Cine Cittá & Sidi Bel Abbès, and even a catchy folk-like tune (Vera C.), this album is a playful voyage in time and space.
