A new artist appears on the streets of City HC Records, he is Andrey Orenstein multidisciplinary artist, part of the alternative Rock band ‘Tequilajazz’, with several solo musical incarnations such as: Amor Entrave, for electronic Indie beats with tocuhes of IDM of broken beats, Do you like trains? for Acid House, and 50dix, dedicated to street beats such as jungle, drum n bass, ghetto house, Juke and Footwork, and the pseudonym he uses for Go Ahead! EP, the new and multifaceted 22nd release from the Valencian label.

IF U Want 2 is the elegant track that takes us into the bustling avenues of the 2st century megapolis, where the urban rhythms of the dance battles in Chicago, Footwork and Juke, along with brief Jungle passages alternate in a brilliant composition with funk and jazz nuances accompanying tight percussion and distorted kicks at 160 BPM.

Tough and Ghetto House and rugged acid define Foolz, second track of the A-side in which the demonic power of the 303 sounds embrace the thick and husky voice that together with infectious laughter set a rhythm as pugnacious as it is playful.

Fetta DI Limone, Juke, Footwork and Jungle, a perfect combination of American influences, legacy of Dj Rashad together with the English tradition around bass music, are fused by 50dix with the unexpected and playful Italian lyrics of Tomasso Girardi, in perfect conjunction with the pianos, ethereal pads and mutant synths, that forge the development of the track. Already anthemic before the first beat sounds.

Juke, IDM, Halftime and abstract broken beats combine for the ultimate dance elixir, in the last track of the vinyl titled ICE Feels Keen, reaching 170 BPM in a catharsis of braindance, soul and acid exaltation in a dreamy harmony, where the syncopated notes of Oleg Egorov's bass and the velvety voice of Julia Garnits (Ice Hokku) commune.

Bonus digital track - 50Dix ICE Feels Keen (dza Reflip). Hypnotic, sharp and minimalistic, DZA's remix transforms the original track into an intimate and evocative experience, in which every sonic element acquires more prominence and presence.

During their short but prolific career, A2L released two albums & numerous EPs on labels such as 1st Bass / Big One and Force Inc between 1988 and 1990. This is a collection of early and rare underground British psychedelic house gems from 1989, blending the trippy, mind-expanding sounds of machine funk, new beat, industrial/ebm, samplers and turntables techniques, with the birth of acid house wonderlandand and captures the raw energy of the UK rave scene.

During their short but prolific career, A2L released two albums, one of which strangely landed on a South African label. They also dropped numerous EPs on labels such as 1st Bass / Big One (home to acts like Deskee, Longsy D, and King Bee) and the German label Force Inc (which hosted artists like Alec Empire, Porter Ricks, and Mike Ink), between 1988 and 1990.

While Acid House is synonymous with the Roland 303, A2L is unlikely an acid house act. Instead, they stand as one of the finest examples of British psychedelic house music from the late 80s, falling between the likesof S-Express, Funtopia, Eon, and Acid Angels. With standout tracks like "Even Though It's Make Believe" and "Come On," A2L delivers infectious grooves over strobelight sample jams.

This here is a collection of early and rare underground British psychedelic house gems from 1989, blending the trippy, mind-expanding sounds of machine funk, new beat, industrial/ebm, samplers and turntables techniques, with the birth of acid house wonderlandand and captures the raw energy of the UK rave scene.

This is one testament to the creative freedom and experimental nature of that era.

‘Grey Interiors’ was made in collaboration with Actual Objects and is an absorbing animation and navigation of those post-human ideals that have prompted Darren J. Cunningham to his best work across the preceding two decades. In its hypnagogic symphony of the elements, he short-circuits distinctions of classical music’s metric freedoms and the hyperspatial sensuality of concrète/electro-acoustic and ambient musics with an artistic license that has come to distinguish his work in the contemporary field, and arguably identified him as this generation’s most vital electronic abstractionist. The first half of the album is bewitchingly airless, materialised in a twinkling vacuum. Naturalistic environmental recordings and a half-heard piano swirl around nauseous airlock whooshes and eerie bass drones. It’s all pulverised to a powdery, shimmering residue; if Actress’s music is defined by its character and texture - that sweet spot between the bedroom and the soundsystem - then this one advances the narrative without losing its backbone. And like a lot of his best work, it comes into its own on the back of zonked eyelids, conjuring a play of shifting geometric patterns within its imaginary physics and nuanced narration of ephemeral melodic phrasing and vaporous textures. At about the halfway point, that dissociated piano finds its groove, coalescing into a jerky drum machine rhythm popping like bubbles in the stifling atmosphere. We can draw some intersecting lines here thru electronic music lore - traces of vintage AE, Push Button Objects, UR - but Actress always leaves an indelible fingerprint on anything he touches. Even when he’s rubbing against the gallery-industrial complex, he manages to fill a stagnant space with electricity and wit.

Hypnotic, disturbing, and edgy.

‘Living In The Moment’: an urgent techno beat, a Moroder-esque bass synth, and a recurrent riff like a signal becoming ever more high and desperate, are counterpointed by an ethereal, quavering, sweet female vocal, strengthened by the melodic build in the huge central breakdown. Urgent, demanding, hyper, this is dancefloor heaven.

Night shifting patiently, slowly drifting in constant flux. Where Ancient Plastix’ debut used rhythm to create geometrical sound architectures and craft elaborate mazes, his new offering ‘II’ glides effortlessly, combining incredibly rich textures with soft swan-like strokes, oscillating gently, an unhurried pace that combines the depth of Japanese ambient maestros and the choppy British mist.

Liverpool producer Paul Rafferty aka Ancient Plastix, recorded ‘II’ straight to cassette with a number of different synths (Yamaha Reface, Korg MS20) and keyboards (90s casio and 70s Gem organ) via a collection of guitar pedals, outboard (Roland Space Echo, Melos delay, spring reverb). His tape machine this time was a Japanese Sansui from the 90s, a strange 6 track machine with a pleasing fidelity bought off from an old rave dad who was finally giving up the ghost.

“Musically, this album is more patient in its approach to the predecessor. Recorded towards the end of lockdown in my highstreet basement below a used record shop, the arrangements reflect the personal era. No responsibility, no reasons to adhere to the previous patterns in my music making. As a result the album is a patient trawl through new discoveries and possibilities presented by improvising with old technology.”

Other than a period in their early years when they attracted attention from John Peel, the British music press and The Cure with whom they worked and supported on tours, they have operated mainly under the radar of the media and music industry as a whole, drawing inspiration from the dark underbelly of the British countryside and touring each of their 14 albums across Europe and as far afield as the USA and Japan. It follows their 2016 release 'Born Into -The Waves' an album that many considered to be their most accomplished. A rare accolade for a band of such longevity. AATT will be playing shows Summer and Autumn 2022 with a tour in Spring 2023.

Blending commanding rhythms with melancholic undertones, Scooterboys from the Pool is a descent into shadowy textures and dystopian landscapes, where driving basslines meet icy, mechanical beats in a pulsing haze of underground spirit.

At the heart of the album is the title track, Scooterboys from the Pool—a haunting rework of Bronski Beat’s iconic Smalltown Boy. Reimagined through ABF’s signature lens, this version strips the original to its essence, replacing its shimmering synths with something colder, heavier, and more urgent while preserving the emotional weight of its narrative. This track has been played at numerous DJ sets, and each time, it cuts through the room like a ghost from the past—achingly familiar yet transformed, stirring something deeply personal with its raw intensity.

This release is pressed on 160-gram black-in-milky-clear vinyl, housed in a 350gsm sleeve, and strictly limited to 500 copies.

40 copies available (of LTD pressing 200) Transparent vinyl with splashes of colour When conceptual art really kicked off in the mid twentieth century, many of its protagonists were so determined to purge art of its decorative frilliness, they turned more and more towards words, or rather, lack thereof. The likes of Duchamp, Dali, Breton, Reinhardt, each uncensored by the rational mind, made moves towards the absurd and the sublime, with varying degrees of success and failure alike.

In this piece, what one finds is the artist attempting to convey a number of things, and asking a number of questions of us as the listener what do we seek in such art? In which ways are tobe intellectually, spiritually and sexually fulfilled by its visceral and confrontational abandonment of conventions? Is it incongruous juxtaposition? Does it lead us as the audience to question ourselves as living breathing beings, our hopes and truths, and our benign tastes so often dictating our choice and free will?

The piece is a natural extension of surrealism, dadaism and indulgence, themselves often strange bedfellows. Elaborate and provocative in its execution, displaying a signature of insatiable curiosity, and leaving no stone unturned, it portrays the artist as a provocateur of postmodernism, mysticism, and decadence.

It transgresses the elusive world of the subconscious more imaginatively than previous offerings. Its also a piece which stitches together the scraps of art and culture, politics and poetry, and science and exotica that could often be found in the Southport of the late noughties and beyond. An extremely clever conceit there could be any manner of things concealed within this record, but we as the listener will never know because as as soon as one opens the record, the art is destroyed, the value is lost, so we will never, ever find out.

Ones most overriding sensation is that the piece feels like a shit filled hand grenade which the artist has flung into our collective psyche. It is quite simply, a joke, and a very poor joke.

Arve Henriksen releases a lot but is remarkably reliable; his playing is so versatile that hearing it dematerialise into different ensembles and individual methodologies is always a treat. Jürjendal is a veteran guitarist, but doesn’t approach his instrument from a purely classical standpoint, taking a Fripp-inspired path towards texture, processing and looping his sounds until they’re barely recognisable. The duo share a similar love for Hassell’s Fourth World ambience, and here inject new life into that mood. Jürjendal’s percussion is impressive: he offsets cascades of oddly-tuned electronics on ‘Tuonela’ with booming, ritualistic tom hits that punctuate Henriksen’s melancholy phrases; and on the brilliant ‘Ancient Bells’, plays a set of gongs and gamelan-style instruments, creating swirling hammered tonal clusters that quiver beneath Henriksen’s echoed-out, spirited improvisations. It’s not always that corporeal, either; on ‘A Remarkable Flow’, he loops guitar phrases, creating gentle vibrations that rumble in the background while he mirrors Henriksen’s pitchy zig-zags with high-pitched oscillator vamps. Even on the peaceable ‘Miraculous Lake’, discreet kalimba loops set a celestial tempo that anchors the duo’s gaseous soundscapes. And although they veer towards end-credits loveliness on the Göttsching-influenced ‘Reunion Hymn’, it’s balanced by the album’s darker passages, like ‘Rebirth’ and ‘Another Me’. On the latter, Henriksen’s trumpet is transformed into a voice-like warble, while Jürjendal replies with glacial E-bowed drones that resonate creepily alongside his lysergic FM pads.
