NEW Re-issue OF THE SKA Meets Pop-punk Classic That Kicked OFF THE Modern SKA Resurgence ON Retail Exclusive Blue Vinyl W/ Marketing Sticker Whatever arguable resurgence that ska punk seems to be having, you can’t attempt to explain it or pinpoint it without referencing We Are The Union or their 2018 masterpiece “Self Care”. Initially a crowd-funded venture that raised over $60,000 worth of support, the record’s release was met with critical success and an instantly sold out modest initial pressing of 600 units. Now for the first time since it’s release the record is available again from the ska-punk focused Bad Time Records (who released the band’s 2021 album “Ordinary Life”), ready to meet the since dramatically expanded ska fan base. The record focuses on mental health in a way that hadn’t been addressed especially by a ska band. Singer Reade Wolcott addressed it in an article for Spin: “At that point, my focus was very pro-normalizing talking about mental health,” Wolcott says of 2018’s Self Care, the band’s first post-hiatus record. Twin Cities-based band We Are the Willows presents its sonically explorative full-length album "iv" in collaboration with Brooklyn’s Youngbloods label. On "NO MORE APOCALYPSE FATHER" they presentsix modal lullabies drenched in seared distortion, slathered across striding electronic pulses.Ball and Menuck began creating music in and for the bleakest moments of Montréal winters:"We're honoring that idea of winter, when you come inside and your house is warm, a placethat only exists because of how cold it is outside," says Menuck. They later recruited Downsand Patch to flesh out their initial ideas. "The music of New York trio Weak Signal (Mike Bones, guitar and voice; Sasha Vine, electric bass, violin, and voice; Tran, drums and voice) is a masterclass in simplicity and economy but these aspects aren’t present for their own didactic sake. Rather, their art is world-building in the most essential of ways, subtly spinning out in an enveloping, rich haze from a clear, architectural core. There are sections of knife-like collective squall and dialogic drift that glance at improvised music; while not strictly pop, the tunes are incredibly catchy with wry, keenly memorable lyrics that easily stick in one’s craw. With associations including Endless Boogie, Sian Alice Group, and Soldiers of Fortune, Weak Signal formed in 2017. They waxed two full lengths in the period leading up to the pandemic ('lp1'; 'Bianca'), and during that unsettling year-plus without many gigs to speak of, the trio kept busy and unleashed a handful of choice digital EPs and a couple of split 7” singles (cue up 'Rolex' if you haven’t heard it). In 2023 the group released 'War and War', a self-published book / CD (its title taken from a volume by Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai) that was reissued on LP by 12xu the following year. 'Fine' is their fourth full-length to date, its tight ten-song program fleshed out with sonic icing from keyboardist Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) and guitarists Doug Shaw (Gang Gang Dance; White Magic) and Cass McCombs."—Clifford Allen

Back in 1980, Weather Report consisted of Wayne Shorter - tenor & soprano sax, Joe Zawinul - keyboards, Jaco Pastorius - bass, Peter Erskine - drums and Bobby Thomas Jr. - percussion. Often considered as one of the best line ups in the band's history, this was a super tight combo playing with the same energy and power of a big band. The 1980 tour, also known as the "Night Passage" tour, is also remembered for the great visual impact, a large scale staging including laser and film projections. The Atlanra Fox Theater show sees the band at its peak, performing great renditions of classic tunes such as Zawinul's "Madagascar" and "Fast City", Pastorius' "Three Views of a Secret" and Shorter's "Port of Entry". This is an important live document from the greatest electric jazz band of all times, period!

Webster Lewis – El Bobo

For the first time on 7” the reissue of rare groove masterpiece “El Bobo”. Jazz-funk, Disco, Fusion and Soul sounds from lesser-known American producer, arranger and key player Webster Lewis. His career started working alongside Stanton Davis, Tony Williams and George Russell – very much driven by super creative jazz piano playing. But, like many of his generation, he ended up in Europe as record deals in the US were getting harder to come by in the straight jazz world. So he ended in Oslo, where he made music for TV and one super cult album recorded live at Club 7. Webster had broken through at a time when The Headhunters and the rise of disco were fusing... and as such, he became the go-to guy for arrangements, production and that magic coat of boogie jazz glitter!

Several albums were signed to Epic, and some classic work with Gwen McCrae, Merry Clayton, Lamont Dozier, and Alton McClain.

Oase is the sophomore album from Berlin-based progressive rock collective Weite, and the follow-up to the band’s 2023 debut LP Assemblage. Clocking in at almost an hour, Oase—German for "Oasis"— takes listeners on an intricate and textured journey that draws inspiration from the pioneering spirit of 70s psychedelic rock, blending influences from “Canterbury scene” prog, Krautrock, early electronica, post rock, and Americana.

The new album show cases Weite's ability to merge the old with the new, creating an immersive, exploratory sound that moves from contemplative and pastoral to riffy and doomy without ever sacrificing melody.

Oase is characterized by longer expansive, atmospheric compositions yet is undoubtedly more composed than the band’s debut, with more of a focus on songs, albeit in the broader sense of the word.

With the focus on melody, texture and mood—although not necessarily always in that order—Weite create a sound that’s intricate and meditative, inviting the listener to embark on a journey through shifting soundscapes and evolving musical narratives.

Weite was formed in Berlin in winter 2022 by bassist Ingwer Boysen (delving) recruiting drummer Nick DiSalvo (Elder, delving) and guitarists Michael Risberg (Elder, delving) and Ben Lubin (Lawns). Initially intended as a one-of recording session, the four recognized an obvious musical chemistry and common ground and decided to turn the project into a proper band. Keyboardist Fabien de Menou (Perilymph) joined in 2024.

To write the songs on their second album, Annie Schermer and Channing Showalter, who record together under the name West of Roan (members of Doran), spent time in collective imagination, journeying to their respective inner worlds and under worlds. As they simultaneously discovered and created a psychic landscape of story, song, archetype, and image, a figure emerged: The Queen of Eyes.

Schermer and Showalter recorded Queen of Eyes themselves, in a small one-room, off-grid cabin on Waldron Island off the coast of Washington State. They ran their ear trumpet condenser microphone off an extension cord connected to the main source of solar power. This recording session—with one microphone, one computer, one cord, and one bench the two sat on—captures the emotional intimacy of their music, along with occasional pops from the fire that heated the cabin, instrument creaks, and breathing sounds. This feels especially fitting for West of Roan’s approach; when you hear them sing you get the sense that they are first singing for and to each other, and emboldened by each other’s presence, together they make their offering to you, the listener.

“Wet Cactus” is an heavy rock band with psychedelic hints created in Cantabria (Spain) during the summer of 2013. The band is formed by Daniel Pascual (Voice & Bass), Ernesto Díez (Guitar), Óscar Sánchez (Guitar) and Jaime Pérez (Drums). They have two studio albums: "Wet Cactus" (2015) and "Dust, Hunger & Gloom" (2018). During their career, they carved out a place in the Nothern Spanish rock scene playing with bands like Yawning Man as well as in festivals like Resurrection Fest. "Magma Tres" is the band's third project. This conceptual album delves into the consequences of Earth's depletion as a life-sustaining planet due to human inaction in reversing their actions. Eight tracks recorded live in February 2022, showcasing a gritty and explosive atmosphere. It is set to be released in November 2023 through Electric Valley Records.
