The original score by Academy Award winner Volker Bertelmann that is the soundtrack to Jules, starring Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler’s List), Harriet Sansom Harris (Licorice Pizza, “Hacks”), Jane Curtin (Coneheads, I Love You, Man) and Jade Quon (Transformers: The Last Knight, The Hunger Games) is set for release by ABKCO Records. Written by Gavin Steckler (“Review”, “Playing House”), Jules made its world premiere at the Sonoma International Film Festival where it was the opening night film, and won the Stolman Audience Award for Best Feature. The film is produced by Michael B. Clark, Andy Daly, Deborah Liebling and Alex Turtletaub alongside Marc Turtletaub.

Produced and directed by Marc Turtletaub (Puzzle, The Farewell, Little Miss Sunshine), Jules, a Bleecker Street release of a Big Beach production, was filmed in Morris County, NJ and follows Milton (Kingsley) who lives a quiet life of routine in a small western Pennsylvania town. His day is upended when a UFO and its extra-terrestrial passenger crash land in his backyard. Before long, Milton develops a close relationship with the extra-terrestrial he calls “Jules.”

Things become complicated when two neighbors (Harris and Curtin) discover Jules and the government quickly closes in. What follows is a funny, wildly inventive ride as the three neighbors find meaning and connection later in life – thanks to this unlikely stranger.

The film’s score is the work of composer/pianist Volker Bertelmann who was a 2017 Academy Award nominee for his score to Lion. Last year he received both an Academy Award and the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for his score for All Quiet on the Western Front. The Budapest Art Orchestra performs Bertelmann’s music for the Jules score. Recording under the name Hauschka, Bertelmann is a prolific artist in his own right and, beyond soundtracks, has released 20 full length albums of original music to date. The Washington Post’s Michael O’Sullivan wrote, “In the end, Jules performs a magical, if tiny, bait-and-switch: It’s less a sci-fi parable — “E.T. the Extraterrestrial” for the AARP demographic — than a fairy tale reminding us that the tribulations of getting old are more natural than sad, and best done in the company of loved ones.”

The VMP exclusive version of Jules (Original Score) is pressed on 180g Honey Crisp vinyl at GZ Vinyl. The 1LP will arrive in a single, direct-to-board jacket with an 8x10 insert and art by Sara Deck. It was mastered by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering Labs.

Recorded inside a geodome at upstate New York's The Outlier Inn, Gently Powerful is a live reimagining of Anna Wise's debut solo LP, As If It Were Forever (and includes one track, ‘’Balance In All'' from Wise's earlier release, The Feminine: Act II). Almost exactly one year to the date of its release, Wise and some of her closest collaborators safely gathered to celebrate As If It Were Forever with these intimate live recordings.

All tracks on Gently Powerful feature performances by Anna Wise (vocals, loops), Jon Bap (drums, vocals, samples, guitar), Joy Morales (keys, synthesizer, vocals) and Juuwah (bass), recorded and mixed by Steve Vealey, and mastered by Kevin Moo. The arrangements heard on these recordings were originally conceptualized as part of Re/Birth, Wise’s February 2020 residency in Los Angeles produced in partnership with Gxrlschool.

Wise first gained recognition with her band, Sonnymoon, and through collaborations with Kendrick Lamar. Wise won a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance for her collaboration on Lamar's ‘’These Walls,'' and she has appeared on each of his projects since good kid, m.A.A.d. city. In 2016, Wise independently released The Feminine: Act I, her first solo EP, and followed it up in 2017 with The Feminine: Act II. The studio version of As If It Were Forever saw a return to collaboration, featuring Little Simz, Jon Bap, Nick Hakim, Denzel Curry, Pink Siifu and more. Recently, Wise has also collaborated on records from Durand Bernarr, Mndsgn and L'Rain.

As a Nashville resident, Natalie Hemby has graced stages as a country singer and songwriter since she was 19. Fully immersed in the music scene, Hemby has since written songs for numerous artists and has appeared on the writing credits for artists such as Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Lady Gaga and a score of other artists. Hemby won two Grammy Awards, including one for Best Song Written for Visual Media for the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper film A Star Is Born.

In 2019, she joined Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires to create the quartet The Highwomen, with whom she released her second album. Pins and Needles sees Hemby’s return to a solo album, fully flaunting her singing and songwriting capabilities to the forefront for her latest imaginative, soul-touching album.

Twenty-plus years into his career, producer/vocalist/songwriter/DJ Matthew Dear remains artistically unpredictable in pursuit of his prescient strain of electronically-formed, organically-delivered indie pop. His work traverses myriad musical worlds, belonging to none. But these fluid moves have not been without a few forks in the road, decisive turns, and what-ifs. Most notable is the pivot-point following Dear’s acclaimed 2007 avant-pop LP, Asa Breed, in which he broke away from the 4/4 grid of his techno/house debut Leave Luck To Heaven and into something much more wild and idiosyncratic.

Traveling between his adopted Detroit and his home state of Texas throughout 2008 and 2009, Dear amassed a set of personal, playful, looping guitar-centric recordings he’d consider for his next album. Given the new momentum of the hybrid electronic pop of Asa Breed which led to an opening slot for Hot Chip and remixes for ‘00 heroes like Spoon and Postal Service, Dear decided to shelf the material. He moved ahead to work on his watershed 2010 album, Black City, a steely noir set which earned him a Best New Music on Pitchfork and a worldwide tour with a besuited band. This “lost album” had a sound, a spirited country romp in the techno barn, and it had a rough title, a scribble on one of the CD-Rs passed to Ghostly label founder Sam Valenti IV, Preacher's Sigh & Potion. He never fully walked away from it, and merely kept moving down the road, waiting for the audience to catch up. Over a decade later, that time is now

Since their inception in 2010, the 9-piece Haitian collective Lakou Mizik has long sought to shift public perception of their home country through music. The multi-generational outfit's blend of traditional Haitian music and punk energy inspired Joseph Ray of NERO during his 2015 visit to Haiti. While the producer initially intended to sample Lakou Mizik, it wasn't enough to sample them, bringing us to the collaborative Leave the Bones.

Limited to 500 copies, the VMP exclusive edition of Lakou Mizik and Joseph Ray's Leave the Bones is pressed on 2LP Apple vinyl at Precision Record Pressing and is mastered by Joseph Ray. The record will arrive in a gatefold reverse board, foil stamped and numbered jacket. The album includes four 12"x12" insert cards.

When I Hit You — You'll Feel It is a 16-track anthology that celebrates the extraordinary work of musician, poet and author, Leslie Winer. It spans Winer’s three-decade-long musical career: from her groundbreaking solo work in the early ’90s to her latest inspired projects. Featuring musical contributions from Jon Hassell, Helen Terry, Jah Wobble, Renegade Soundwave’s Karl Bonnie and others, the collection also spotlights Winer’s diverse collaborations, and unearths previously-unreleased recordings. The album is newly remastered by the Grammy Award-winning engineer John Baldwin and includes a new interview with Winer, captured by the compilation’s co-producer, acclaimed author and journalist Wyndham Wallace. Fiddlehead's debut LP Springtime and Blind is an exploration of grief both introspective and through the insight of others. Following the release of their Out of the Bloom EP on Lockin Out Records, the Boston-based band have created a debut LP that shares an anguishing, relatable story of love and loss through the catharsis of spirited, loud indie rock. Consisting of guitarist Alex Henery (also of Basement), vocalist Patrick Flynn and drummer Shawn Costa (both of Have Heart), Fiddlehead explore musical styles different from their other projects while bringing a familiar energetic and emotional core to the collaboration.Springtime and Blind stemmed from Pat's loss of his father. Flynn looks at how his mother coped with the situation- losing her spouse, her center of gravity -writing the lyrics as an emotional catharsis for both of them. While the process of writing and recording helped Flynn cope with his personal loss there's no doubt it carries a universal message that can help ease others' loneliness. A contrast to itself, Springtime and Blind is a multidimensional and relatable journey through its cathartic message and spirited instrumentals.
