Oder besser gesagt: "Schuldig" ist, neben all dem Vieldimensionalen, das die Platte ausmacht, auch ein wichtiger Schritt Richtung Selbstbestimmung. "Zuckerplatte" heißt das frisch gegründete, bandeigene Plattenlabel, dessen erste Veröffentlichung die vorherigen sieben Bandjahre keinesfalls in Abrede stellt. Hartmann und Aue haben sich aber willentlich von Vielem getrennt, um etwas Neues erforschen zu können. Die Sache mit der Unschuld beispielsweise. Man muss die Werke der großen Philosophen nicht kennen, um den Ekel empfinden zu können, den die Unschuld nach sich ziehen kann. Auch das, zugegeben, erheiternde Studium der Schriften Friedrich Nietzsches ist nicht vonnöten, um "Schuldig" verstehen zu können. Es reicht schon ein Spaziergang durch bundesdeutsche Innenstädte und das Vertrauen auf die eigene Intuition. Der Glaube an die Unschuld ist ein sozialromantisches Konstrukt, ein großer Kitsch, der sich bis zur Unkenntlichkeit durch alles zieht und zieht und zieht und zieht. "Los, leise, langsam, laut..." - dann ist man auch schon mitten im "Schuldig sein", mitten in den Grauzonen zwischen Teilhaben und Nichtteilhaben an einer Gesellschaft, in der Sex, Medizin und Kokain Verbraucherinteressen definieren. "Poch, poch, herein!" sagt die Stimme am Ende des ersten Songs der neuen Platte. Es ist das Entree ins Album "Schuldig". Es kann aber auch der Zugang zu dir, zum Ekel vor dir selbst oder zur Selbstakzeptanz sein, den du dir selbst gewährst - nach dem ganzen Koks- und Pillen- und Menschenfleischrausch. *Zuckerplatte

With Retropolitan, Skyzoo’s most recent collaborative project with Pete Rock, he got to live out a dream, as two generations of legendary native New Yorkers aligned to create an album that was both a love letter and a wakeup call to the city they love. Now, with The Bluest Note, Skyzoo is checking another box on his bucket list. “Since my debut album, I’ve never released a project that didn’t include a moment of jazz influence; with some sort of live instrumentation, something that connected my lyricism with the truest definition of musical lyricism; jazz” Skyzoo commented. “As much as I’ve incorporated my favorite genre of music with my other favorite genre of music, this is the first time I’ve been able to craft an entire project based on jazz production from top to bottom” Skyzoo quipped. “The Bluest Note is a testament to something I’d been longing to do for as far back as I can remember.” In 2017, Sky was touring in Italy and met the Tuff Kong Records team, who recruited Dumbo Station to bring Skyzoo’s vision to life and in June 2019 Skyzoo was in Rome writing, composing and recording music with the talented musicians. “Collaborating with Italy’s renowned jazz band Dumbo Station was an absolute honor. From writing musical arrangements with them and having them bring them to life in the studio in Rome, Italy; it was a perfect union and execution of what I foresaw when I began to sketch out the project. Six songs, as an homage to the classic jazz albums of the genre’s heyday (when LPs were around six tracks total). The Bluest Note is the storytelling and inner-city expressions you’ve come to know and love from me, attached to the jazz orchestration I’m dying to introduce to some and re-introduce to others. Austrian hardware-only liveact Anml Mthr presents his 4th release on Florian Meindl's FLASH Recordings imprint and counts to the core artists of the label.
Heavily influenced by the Vienna and Berlin Techno scene of the 90s he was a regular visitor to Tresor Club as well as a shining raver at Gazometer Vienna.
His productions under different monikers in the genre underground dubstep and hardcore can be traced back until the late 90s, but with Anml Mthr he found a home to combine his rough subbass with driving and chellanging acid lines and synth sequences.
His unique hardware setup consists of a huge modular synthesizer as well as classic boxes like the 303 of course, but also modern boutique synthesizers and effect boxes which he performs all in one take to record his tracks.

"Monument" ist das dritte Album von Molchat Doma aus Minsk und die erste Veröffentlichung des international gefeierten belarussischen Post-Punk-Trios auf ihrem neuen Label Sacred Bones. Die Band spielte im März - vor dem Pandemie Lock-Down - noch eine ausverkaufte Tour in Deutschland und das Album enthält mit der Single "Ne Smeshno" einen absoluten Live-Favoriten bei Band und Publikum. Übersetzt bedeutet Ne Smeshno in etwa Nicht lustig. Das beschreibt aktuell nicht nur die angespannte politische Lage im Land sehr treffend... Begleitet von einer Drum Machine macht Frontman und Sänger Egor Shkutko seinen Gefühlen der Abgetrenntheit, Ausweglosigkeit und Frustration auf Russisch Luft. "Monument" ist passend gewählt als Titel für das dritte Album der 2017 in Minsk, Belarus gegründeten Band Molchat Doma. In der Tat steht der Name symbolisch für alles, was die Musiker in kurzer Zeit als Gruppe erreicht haben. Zwischen ihrem Aufstieg vom rätselhaften Geheimtipp zum viralen TikTok-Meme liegen gerade einmal drei Jahre. Seitdem zählt die Post-Punk/Synthpop/New Wave-Band zu den Schlüsselbands der belarussischen Post-Punk-Szene. Geschrieben und aufgenommen wurde "Monument" in ihrer Heimatstadt Minsk während der Quarantäne. Molchat Doma haben auf dem dritten Longplayer ihr Handwerk merklich verfeinert. Das Songwriting ist stärker geworden, die Arrangements sind ausgefeilter. Das Gerätearsenal von Roman Komogortsev und Pavel Kozlov ist um eine breite Palette von Synthesizern und Drumcomputern erweitert worden, die mit Präzision von den Musikern bedient werden. Egor Shkutkos Gesang bewegt sich fließend zwischen seinem unverkennbaren deadpan drawl und einer ausdrucksstarken, einlullenden Ruhe. Seine wunderschönen auf Russisch vorgetragenen Texte sind düster und romantisch zugleich. Mit "Monument" haben Molchat Doma eines der schwierigsten Dinge als Band überhaupt erreicht. Sie haben die Bandbreite ihrer Musik stark erweitert und gleichzeitig alles beibehalten, was sie von Anfang an großartig gemacht hat.

One Tribe label-owner Amémé makes his debut production appearance on Crosstown Rebels next month with the three-track Drum Beat. The EP includes a remix by longstanding US house veteran Joeski, marking a major career achievement for the Benin-born talent.

The Latin influence is experienced right from the word go on Loca, as Saharan-esque elements build alongside resonant hats and playful, Spanish-like vocals. Tribal percussion drifts in and out alongside, whilst whirring key solos feature subtly throughout. Drum Beat comes next, manifesting as a welcome slice of contemporary Afro-house that’s packed full of raw instrumentals and authentic lyrical samples, before Joeski’s remix brings things to an up-tempo, club-ready close.

Specialising in Afro-leaning electronic music, Amémé has marked himself as one of the continent’s breakthrough talents in recent years. Joeski’s trajectory can be traced back to 1991, when he burst onto the NYC house scene as a founding member of The Chocolate Factory DJ collective. Since then, the US veteran has garnered a worldwide following thanks to his Maya label, which was first incepted in 2001, as well his keen ear for production that has seen him release on Crosstown Rebels, Relief and a myriad of other heavyweight imprints in recent years.

Billy & The Loins reunite for a tribute 7" to founding Singing Loins member Chris Broderick!Billy recorded the first two Singing Loins LPs with Chris Broderick and Arf' Alan in his bathroom at May Road, Rochester in 1991 and 1993. The lads then decided to record an LP of folk variations of Billy's own tunes, called At The Bridge. The Singing Loins then went their own way recording many LPs. Fast forward to late 2021 and the singer Chris was diagnosed with blood cancer. Before his passing in January 2022, he let Arf (and later Loin Rob), know that he wished them to carry on the group. That said Billy proposed a memorial 45 (and an LP to follow). "Song of the Medway" is about their hometowns of Rochester, Chatham, Strood and Gillingham, all on the banks of the River Medway. Chatham's ancient Dockyard was where Nelson's Victory was built. "The Broken and the Lost of the Old Long Bar" celebrates a drinking hole on Chatham High Street (which once boasted more pubs and brothels in a single mile than anywhere in the world). Especially written by Billy for this return of The Singing Loins, the songs are at once brand new and ancient.

Bassist and composer Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet) launches new collaborative project with saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands)

Vega Trails is a new project from double-bassist and composer Milo Fitzpatrick, a founder member of Portico Quartet, who has also performed with the likes of Nick Mulvey and Jono McCleary and features saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands, Sunda Arc) in a richly powerful duo bringing together two powerfully charismatic musicians. The project which takes its name from Carl Sagan's science fiction novel 'Contact' (a book about signals of new life detected from the Vega system) andwas born out of a desire to bring the elements of bass and melody to the foreground in their rawest form and Fitzpatrick explains that he deliberatelychose the stripped back approach.

Segantini (1858-1899), was an illiterate and stateless artist famous for his paintings made in the Engadin.The title track is about living your life through someone else's YouTube channel: a blow by blow account of how their life in the frozen north is more, picturesque, sensitive, fun, enlightened and artistic than yours could ever be.'Stood Upon a Chair' is about the villain Jessie James, but without the romance part that is usually added to such tales.'You Gotta Move', a Mississippi Fred McDowell cover, is one of the best recordings we've ever made. Here I'm accompanied by my wife Julie and my friend Dave Tattersall who plays electric slide guitar. A true gem which should make someone, somewhere, rich and famous. Having become one of Crosstown Rebels’ key artists in recent years, Barcelona-born Tibi Dabo returns to the label this February with his latest EP, the four track Isla. Since debuting on the label in 2019, Tibi Dabo (aka Max Guardans) has cemented his place amongst the Crosstown family with standout EPs such as Disbelieve and The Distance We Share, the latter of which featuring two remixes from David Morales.
Tibi Dabo creates this scene perfectly as the title track opens proceedings, easing the listener in with delicate pads before waves of harmonious elements and finely placed percussions dance in and out of the track. Mothball then further emphasises the artist’s attention to detail as its lead melody and vocal-chops develop in tandem throughout. Brain The Cut follows, acting as a metaphorical signal of nightfall on Tibi Dabo’s conceptual island. Rounding off the release, Arp 8 delivers warming melodies atop of a subtle break beat in an exquisitely emotive manner.

Still in its infancy, yet mature in its intention, the Tibi Dabo project sees Max in his element; drawing on over a decade of playing and making music, perfectly demonstrated on Isla. Emerging from a new generation of multi-disciplined artists, Tibi Dabo’s refreshingly unique sound has also seen him remix for Crosstown Rebels head Damian Lazarus on two occasions. Determined and full of creative energy, Tibi Dabo thrives on producing music with no restrictions and, driven by his own need for exploration together with the support of influential industry figureheads, he has a locker full of fresh new music to unleash.

Ian Pooley returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids with Studio A Pt. 2 this February. The second entry in a three-part series of music based around his studio, Ian Pooley’s ‘Studio A Pt. 2’ for Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint sees the bonafide house legend deliver another choice selection of grooving hardware productions. Leading the A-side is the fluttering synths and warped vocal samples of ‘JV Organ & Matrix’, which twists and turns through delightful FX and rumbling bass. ‘Version 2’ of the track follows, contorting elements of the original into a heads-down groover, with washed-out processing and stereo wizardry meeting classic dub techniques. On the flip, ‘Back Up’ keeps it live and direct with hard-hitting, chunky drums and menacing acid lines, with an additional stripped back digital ‘Beats Bass’ version included. Rounding out the 12” is 101202, a dreamy slice of razor-sharp house, with gorgeous, filtered pads drifting in tandem with strung out low end and skippy percussion. Active since the early 90s, the German DJ/producer has released on the likes of Force Inc, V2 Records, and his own Pooledmusic, remixing for the likes of Deee-Lite, Carl Cox and many more, as well as being one of the few to be remixed by Daft Punk.
