Limited Black vinyl repress (500 copies)!The lead singer and main songwriter of Cindy, Karina Gill, started the group after picking up a guitar and singing for the first time in 2016. The project went on to release an eponymous, self-produced debut album in 2018. Returning the same rhythm section and adding a dedicated keyboardist, Cindy's second album, Free Advice, showcases the group's unusual amalgam of indie pop and dedicated slowcore inspirations. The 11-track, 36-minute set goes by quickly but also languidly with mostly plodding tempos alongside vocals that come across like half-spoken, distracted thoughts. At the same time, many of the band's tunes have the hooks and slogans of classic indie pop -- if accidentally played at a too-slow rpm. Opening track "Discount Lawyer," for instance, features churning guitar and a rhythmically syncopated melody that delivers lines like "You sound tonight/Like a discount lawyer/Talk is cheap/You can trust me on that/'Cause the bill when it comes/It's got my name on it" as if underwater. The singer/guitarist is also joined on the song by humming keys, a spare tambourine or hi-hat, and measure-marking bass drum that occasionally expands to full, muffled kit. Much of the album continues in kind -- subtly catchy and half asleep -- with exceptions coming in the form of tracks like the brisk and fuzzy "Wrong Answer," which embraces a hazy, uptempo punk, and the strummy, shaker-accompanied "Falcon Heavy." Standout entry "A Song in French" falls somewhere in between those and the rest, with its midtempo wistfulness and Casio-type keyboard line clearly indicating heartbreak for those who can't translate. Attractively gloomy and ramshackle, Free Advice's reticent pop disarms much more often than not. - allmusic.com

There are various reasons why it took so long to realize a record together… but here we are… and this is how I imagined it and what I had hoped for… Circles Bros is Wim Lecluyse. Originally from The Netherlands but living in Belgium now for many years. He has been making and releasing his music since 2002… amongst others on his excellent Morc Records label. With his music Circle Bros is submerging you with hypnotic lo-fi ambient and drone music with a folklorish feeling and a psychedelic touch… His work has been shifting from more song based to ambient like pieces… or a perfect blending of that… “Waves/Peaks” came into existence when Circles Bros sent me a proposal for an album… but instead of releasing the complete album I proposed to make a record out of the two long mersmerizing tracks which were part of the selection he sent me… when in the dialogue about this the working title of one of these tracks turned out to be “Vrystaete” I knew for sure this was the right way for a Circle Bros record on Vrystaete… These two long tracks with a minimal structure are created with minimal means and minimal post-production… the tracks evolved out of shorter pieces and are “stretched” creating this dreamy and otherworldly vibe… This is music to sit back to and get into and let it come over you and flow with it… Music to experience and not talk about to much…

Haley Fohr, besser bekannt unter ihrem Künstlernamen Circuit des Yeux, gehört sicherlich zu den spannendsten und schillerndsten Künstlerinnen der amerikanischen Avantgarde-Musikszene. Sie lebt in Chicago, einer Stadt mit besonders fruchtbarem Boden für eigenwillige Sounds mit Ecken und Kanten. Ihr neues heißt Album „-io“ und erscheint bei Matador Records. Noch bevor die Pandemie ihren seltsamen und düsteren Schleier über die Welt legte, fing Fohr an, Songs für ihr sechstes Album zu schreiben. Zu dieser Zeit verarbeitete sie einen persönlichen Verlust, der sie aus der Bahn warf und die Arbeit am neuen Album fast unmöglich machte. Sie litt unter einer akuten Schreibblockade - und dann kam die Pandemie, die alles noch viel schwerer machen sollte. Viele Songs auf „-io“ handeln vom Zerfall der Welt, die unter der Klimakatastrophe zu zerbrechen droht. Dazu passt die klaustrophobische wie dramatische Grundstimmung des Albums. Grollende Klaviersounds treffen hier auf apokalyptisch klingende Streicherarrangements – das letzte Gefecht. Sämtliche Songs entstanden bei ihr zuhause am Computer, was ein hohes Abstraktionsvermögen von der Künstlerin verlangte, schließlich hatte sie diese für ein 23-köpfiges Orchester geschrieben. „-io“ ist die aufwändigste und komplexeste Produktion von Circuit Des Yeux bis dato, die am Ende fast an der Umsetzung zu scheitern drohte. Aufgrund von COVID-Beschränkungen konnte Fohr nur mit sechs anderen Musikern gleichzeitig im Studio aufnehmen. Sie und ihre Mitstreiter, 13 renommierte Musiker aus Chicagos Jazz-, Klassik- und Experimental-Szene, mussten „-io“ schließlich Schicht für Schicht aufbauen. Die ganze Arbeit und der Kampf gegen die inneren Dämonen hat sich gelohnt: das neue Circuit De Yeux Werk fühlt sich wie ein künstlerischer Neustart an. „-io“ ist ein Album, das nicht nur von der großen und markerschütternden Stimme der Künstlerin lebt, sondern auch von den fantastischen Arrangements und den raumfüllenden Songs. This LP finally brings a Clipping fan-favorite, 2016's Wriggle, onto vinyl in an improved, expanded version that features new art, previously unreleased remixes, and a track that's exclusive to the vinyl format. The original, digital-only Wriggle EP was six tracks that weren't finished in time to make it onto the group's 2014 Sub Pop debut, Clppng. For "Shooter," Clipping recorded themselves firing fifteen different guns, the sounds of which exclusively constituted the beat's drums, augmented only by a synthesized tone-row. The verses referenced the well-worn technique of "hashtag rap," but instead of using it to boast about the rapper's personal wealth and masculine prowess, Clipping put forth imagistic narratives of three violent encounters. True to much of the group's music, "Shooter" was an attempt to reframe a familiar style and test the limits of its formal capabilities. "Hot Fuck No Love" contains what might be the most explicit verse to date from Clipping's favorite New Jersey rapper Cakes Da Killa. The EP's title track, "Wriggle," was built around a sample of the influential power-electronics song "Wriggle Like a Fucking Eel" by Whitehouse, transforming William Bennett's torturous imperative into a instructional dance-floor banger. "Wriggle" and "Shooter" have become classic Clipping tracks and staples of their live show. With this vinyl edition, Clipping fans old and new - and there are many new fans thanks to their breakout 2020 album, Visions of Bodies Being Burned, and Daveed Diggs' thriving acting career - get the vinyl version of Wriggle they've been clamouring for.

Lockdown took its toll on Clive. Not the isolation or sense of impending doom - that was normal - but specifically the worldwide marmite shortage in April. On the verge of a ‘Driving to Dundee barefoot’ style meltdown, Clive found solace in his 20 year obsession with Alan ‘foot on a spike’ Partridge. Taking Musique Concrete to its textbook conclusion, Clive has made music only using sounds from TV series ‘I’m Alan Partridge’. Over 100, mainly foley samples were repurposed into the two title tracks of the Alan EP. Alan A is a raw yet melodic, big plate of House. Containing everything from drawer slams to air bass, cereal destruction to Black Beauty, this orchestra of found sound makes for some unique and exciting rhythmic textures. Grab a cup of beans and enjoy. Things take a dubby turn for Alan B. Late night broken beats and sultry bass worthy of Alan’s Deep Bath. Featuring Lynn on jungle time-stretched vocals. The EP is bought to a close by off-kilter acid-tinged synthwave nugget, Linton TT. It doesn’t fol-low the Partridge sampling rules but needless to say has the last laugh. Bonus Easter egg for the vinyl heads is a “Dan!” locked groove at the end of side A. Cook a cat! Label info: Income Trax is Clive from Accounts’ filing cabinet of curiosities. We have been on this project for months and like some of our Reggae projects took a wide international cooperation to get to the final point! When we 1st heard the riddim by Rockers Disciples we knew something good was gonna come out but we didn't expect how good! Both sides are in fact on the same riddim but comes with totally different moods, Clive Matthews's side in a conscious and militant vocal while Mara's side is mellow and sweet with a lover vocal. To complete the 12'' there's the magic touch by Roberto Sanchez who mixed the vocals and made the Dubwises!
