These pics have become a sought-after stamp of approval for vets and up-n-comers alike. In fact, they have even been used for album covers by major players like Big Ghost Ltd. and Conway.

Having built up his reputation, his connects, and a massive collection of Polaroids, this tenacious creative has turned his attention to putting out an album spotlighting some of his favorite new emcees. The line-up includes Eto, Crimeapple, Axel Leon, Daniel Son, Flee Lord, G4 JAG, Pounds, Vic Spencer, Rasheed Chappell, The Musalini, Nems FYL, Asun Eastwood, Rome Streetz, and Nature. And while Words handles executive producer duties on this compilation, he’s partnered with the King of Upstate, 38 Spesh, to fully produce the project.

In short, 1000Words has pulled together a must-have collection of songs, that like his pictures, capture an important moment in time.

As we continue our ever long winded hiatus from the dancefloor, we are happy to welcome a new group of producers to the label in the form of 00:AM’s fourth various artists compilation. Certainly not the only way we expected to come together this year, but we’re grateful to be able to cultivate another 12” to share with the world. Across the A Side, we are joined by three artists who we’ve had the pleasure of hosting and playing with in Montreal over the past couple years. Alfredo92 of the Axces crew in Copenhagen presents ‘Tente Hjul’ which gets the remix treatment from Mr. Action Shadow himself, Fett Burger. The result in something distinctly mechanical but not without a human pulse and a tear jerking conclusion. Fantastic Man then puts his own psychedelic twist on the hardcore continuum, taking the beautiful palette of his recent LP on Mule Musiq to the brink of insanity with ‘On Tha Run’. On the B side we find two new friends to 00:AM. We have a mandatory “minimum of 1 ESB tune gets played a night” policy round these parts, and so its truly a pleasure to release his ‘Sequential Dub’. Nothing less than a future classic, it’s dubby and understated, but a little quicker than you think. And finally, its a pleasure to introduce 2wo2imes, who delivers ‘Immune’ a deep and driving excursion into the wormhole. It’s a weird world, we miss you all, but we’ll keep doing what we know best, releasing and enjoying the music that moves us - no matter the time or place.

The new album from London-based USA Nails (and 2nd for Hex Records) is a post-punk, noise-rock platter that is as grating as it is catchy. The record was tracked live over 4 days at Bear Bites Horse in London with producer Wayne Adams. Though "Character Stop" still features the pummeling noise-punk that USA Nails have become renowned for, it's balanced with more sober, downbeat moments. On it they explore identity - like the online personas of aggressive twitter users, influencers and vloggers, as well as more introspective takes on mental health, giving up on dreams, the joy (and despair) of being a part-timer, and contemplating who they would be if they decided to hang up their guitars for good. Guitarist Gareth Thomas comments, "For me "Character Stop" is the best album USA Nails have ever made by miles. It's more varied than anything we've ever done before and I think it's stronger for it. I feel like it's more fully realized, and more complete as a collection of songs. Every time we get in a room together and write, the dynamic of our relationship as writers (and mates) develops a bit further, we get better at anticipating and complimenting each other. We are back on wax again with a very special release. It means a great pleasure for us to have one of the pivotal figures of the Madrid underground techno scene on board, Herr Unkle Fon. Some years ago, Madrid clubscene was formed by conventional clubs in conventional locations with conventional opening and closing times and usually, conventional programming. Manuel Cano then founded Utopía Secret Society and things changed forever for the city’s underground nightlife. Now as you may have noticed there is no club scene at all, neither conventional nor illegal, sign of the times. Musically speaking, Manuel started as a guitarist and soon evolved into studio engineer, label owner, club promoter, record shop owner (Ater Cosmo), social agitator… and adventurous character that reflects in his productions all his knowledge of the dancefloor. Jisatsu is a slow paced broken beat surrounded with smooth textures, soon joined by a repetitive synth line that adds the hypnotic component. Genroku Ako follows with a cosmic approach, continuous percussive and synthetic lines run together on a fast BPM exercise obsessive, linear and mental. On the flip side, 47 Ronin uses dreamy stabs over a relentless groove mixing liquidity with tension. Closing the release Shuppatsu is an almost beatless exercise, just with 909 rimshots, toms and snares spiced with ethereal components A timeless futuristic release that can wait on your record bag until things go in better directions. United Sates Of Existence were one of earliest neo-psychedelic groups from the US. Born in Baltimore in 1978 out of the ashes of prog-rock outfit Klangfarb, their goal was to reproduce the sound of their favourite 60s psych bands: Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes, Blues Magoos, Nazz, The Assocation… They consisted of Paul Rieger (guitar, bass and electric sitar), Bob Tiefenwerth (organ, electric harpsichord and piano), Dennis Davison – of Jigsaw Seen fame - (lead vocals, acoustic guitar and theremin) and Gary Schwartz on drums and harmony vocals. The group used vintage instruments and antiquated recording techniques to fully embrace the sounds of the first psychedelic era (1967-68). They never got to play live, preferring to spend their time recording in their basement studio or going on record-buying binges at all the discount stores, searching for obscure psychedelic albums with weird names like Harumi, Phulph, Bohemian Vendetta… They were championed by Greg Shaw (Bomp!) who chose one of their first recordings, the killer Return To The Psychedelic, as the opening track for the seminal Battle Of The Garages LP compilation (1981). They also appeared in another famous compilation, The Rebel Kind (1983). Anything Goes!, their first 45, saw the light in 1984, self-released on the band’s own label, U.S. Fidelity Sounds, and featuring members of the Association on backing vocals (no kidding!). In 1986, they caught the attention of the Bam Caruso label from the UK, where they released their only album, Introducing: the United States of Existence, in 1986. The Psychedelic Yesterdays Of Tomorrow compiles all the material released by United Sates of Existence, including their Bam Caruso album along with various single / compilation tracks, as well as a few previously unreleased tracks and alternate mixes. “Surround sound not required – these stereo recordings will transport the listener to the proper state of existence. Recorded in the band’s basement and mixed down on a picnic table - because that’s where it was all happening.”

Born in 2013, Uniform bulldozed a path to the forefront of underground music. This record marks the debut of Mike Sharp on drums, adding a natural fire to the engine. His presence grinds down their metallic industrial edge with a live percussive maelstrom. Once again, Greenberg assumed production duties behind the board at Strange Weather. Building on the approach from their last LP, the band perfected the powerful hybrid of digital and analog, electronic and acoustic, synthetic and actual that has become their hallmark. In another first, Mixing duties were not handled by Greenberg, but rather handed off to the inimitable Randall Dunn at his studio Circular Ruin.

First ever release of any recordings by this fascinating heavy rock group from Colorado
8-page LP-sized color booklet with lyrics, photos, and stories from the road What was available to unknown hard rocking dreamers like Umbra in Denver in 1971-72? Weekend gigs. Nothing but weekend gigs. But there was an upside to that: bands like Umbra could mix original material in with covers, and make enough money to survive. Or in the case of Umbra, to make enough money to build a home studio, where they recorded ads to promote their upcoming shows—and eventually, laid down the eight tracks on this disc. Everything was recorded by bouncing tracks back and forth between two-track and four-track reel-to-reel tape recorders. Spacey intros and weird effects were created by recording guitar licks, then re-recording them played backwards at double speed. What sounds like a flute was the result of blowing over the top of a 14” goose neck (believe it or not).

The resulting tracks are hard edged and heavy, verging on acid rock at times. Makes sense, as Umbra was a power trio most of their too-brief existence. Yet the songs (heavy though they are) have a deft touch. There are weird effects, space rock elements, plenty of melody, and a refreshing category-free approach to writing songs that makes Umbra’s music exciting to hear.

Our Lion LP edition comes with an 8-page LP-sized color booklet, with lyrics, photos, plus interesting and funny things that can only happen to musicians, and did to Umbra. The CD edition comes with a sixteen-page color booklet containing the same material.

We know that band bios can be sterile and boring or can move to the opposite spectrum, rife with grandiose embellishment. Umbra’s story is neither. Instead, it is the story is the story of a band from the early 1970’s who recorded what they wanted to record: heavy, heavy music from the start of the “American Comedown Era” (as we’ve seen it described by friends for their Brown Acid series of compilations). Umbra’s story is also that of a band whose music, terrific though it is, has never to this point been released out into the wide world. Prepare yourselves to be surprised—and we hope as impressed as we are—by what Umbra had to offer.
