Bare Bones Wax presents release number two on their vinyl only label, this time enlisting an artist who is making waves on the scene, Carlo Gambino. Some of Carlo’s previous vinyl outings have been on established labels such as Cinthie’s We R House, Okain’s Ball Park, Frank Roger’s Real Tone and Ewax Editions while gaining support from heavyweight DJ’s such as Raresh, Silverlining and Matt Tolfrey, amongst many others. With future wax releases slated for labels One of 4, Discotech, 3AM, Echoes of Glory and Audio Analysts over the coming year, you could say he is a man in demand! Here he supplies two original tracks with a remix of each from Goshawk and David Moran respectively. Kicking off the EP is the first original track from Carlo titled “You and Me”. A modern deep feel and catchy vocal make this track a real killer. Goshawk (Half of deep house legends Rhythm Plate) serves up a tough underground remix of “You and Me” with an American influence for the A2 track. Over on the flip Carlo’s second original composition is “Get Back”. Sitting firmly in the deep house camp but with minimal elements and cut up vocals it purveys a killer groove. Finishing off the EP is the David Moran remix which is a full on dancefloor destroyer. Jacking beats, vocal snippets and a heavy bassline work a treat to finish off the EP.

Original film soundtrack For the first time ever, here is the soundtrack from the 1983 post-apocalyptic flick directed by Joe D’Amato, Endgame - Bronx Lotta Finale. A compelling Carlo Maria Cordio’s mighty Vangelis-meets-John Carpenter score. With hangovers from previous Giallo-based outings, Endgame’s themes are more gentle and introspective than, say, Claudio Simonetti’s muscular work for The New Barbarians and Hands of Steel but also, arguably, musically more diverse. In particular, the opening title track ‘Atomic Contamination” is genuinely chilling when set against the stock footage of a nuclear bomb going off. While liberally pinching the vibe of Blade Runner’s more symphonic textures, Cordio’s synthesizers also do bombast, melancholy and menace when required, whilst the pretty pieces for Lilith are like semi precious jewels shining out of the murk and machismo.

Carlo has been a steady force of deep house for the last 15 years with successful releases on over a dozen different labels. This latest foray on Lovedancing is one of his best. The entire EP is loosely influenced by The Neverending Story, apparent in the creative and enigmatic use of samples, inspired sounds, artwork and themes. Every track is highly danceable, with the A-side title song taking front and center, utilizing an impressively complex layering of sounds and rhythm from the swung drums, to synth fills, to groaning siren sounds in the background. The B-side finds the chunky and moody sounds of Gmork, and the disco-tinged Pyornkrachzark. A solid three tracker from start to finish that will find its home in many crates for an array of reasons.

Next up on Seasons Series is an upbeat 5-tracker from Berlin-based producer, Carlo, who offers an exuberant respite from the context of urban seclusion out of which it was imagined.

Since his debut release back in 2009, the Spanish-born house connoisseur has well and truly mastered his craft: music that strikes the balance perfectly between the transportive, meditative potential of deep house and disco's danceable groove. where is everybody? EP is the product of this discovery. Lilting deep house track "Sensitive Response" sets the EP's feel-good tone whilst the title track picks up the energy with undertones of disco and funk.

On "Earth Two", Carlo teams up with Netherlands-based producer, Retromigration, to deliver a skippy sax-infused banger which lets you melt into its groove. Sampling a goodnight voicenote from his young son, "Noche" sees the EP at its most contemplative, a meditation on the isolating impact of lockdown. Finally, the tech-house sensibilities of the EP's closer "Moving Forward" leaves things on a positive note with a meandering funk bassline and blissful vocals.

First ever repress of the sought after psychedelic tinged funk rock private press album 'Eclipse of the City' from 1980 New York. Originally recorded between 1975 and 1977 in Manhattan's garment district. Eclipse of the City lay dormant on a reel to reel player whilst frontman Carlos Fire Aguasvivas muddled through life working as a data entry clerk away from his fellow band members. It wasn't till he rediscovered the tapes that a sudden life affirming moment drove him to get the music pressed. Putting pen to paper Carlos created the artwork as a homage to his love of comic art and brought the band to life on the reverse with his spindly characters engrossed in the jam. Only 300 copies were pressed at the time leading to eye-watering prices for a copy. with a recent digital re-release from Indian Summer's Anthology Records, Sticky Buttons stepped up to repress the record with a limited run of 500, lovingly manufactured in the UK in all its vinyl glory.

Arriving in the Bronx from the civil unrest of Santo Domingo in the early 60's Aguasvivas was surrounded by the raucous sounds of rock, jazz and prog. Absorbing the humdrum atmosphere of life in New York, Eclipse of the City came from the minds of close friends Carlos Aguasvivas, Steve Garcia and Eddy Garcia. Meeting at Monroe High School the three of them quickly formed a strong bond over their shared interest in music. It wasn't long after that they began rehearsing in a basement under a neighbourhood cleaners and in the attic of Steve and Eddy's family home piecing together their extended sessions of tripped out cinematic psychedelia.

Recording got off to a rocky start as a car accident left the three band members in A&E after taking an early morning cab ride through Manhattan to watch the sunrise on their way into the studio (a theatrical artistic statement of intent conceived by Steve Garcia) - as Eddy mentioned "Eclipse was forged from a lot of pain". Their recording sessions were postponed but a few weeks later they were back and with the added energy of John Ortega on Bass and Vincent Anderson on electric piano and organ - with just a few microphones and a reel to reel recorder, Eclipse of the City was laid down as the stark bold homage to New York's downtown.

Influences ranged from the cinematic behemoth Jaws to the UK prog rock bands of Genesis, Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer but only could Eclipse of the City take its unique form in the attics and basements of New York with the full band adding their Puerto Rican and Dominican slanted New York energy. Side one includes 3 fully formed tracks breaking out into eerie moments of calm before diving into well timed jolts of reprise as each element weaves over the top of one another whilst side two presents a 30 minute narrative work following the night adventures of a young group of friends exploring the vibrant nightlife of downtown New York. A rumbling half hour of wobbling guitar, tight drumming and synth organ licks jutting out from the glistening lights of the night before the sun rises down Manhattan's East-West axis as the lilt changes and the organ lulls the friends back home. A truly idiosyncratic take on the heady world of New York in the 70's and one that still resonates with our urban landscapes and love for the nights they bring today.

The US-born, Norwegian-Mexican musician and producer Carmen Villain, real name Carmen Hillestad, has spent the last nine years and four albums gently unraveling song into the sound of emotional impulse. From the tilt and croon of her first two albums to the expansive warmth that flows and pulses beyond ambient in her more recent output, Hillestad's journey is artful musical deconstruction but also somehow spiritual growth. Hence new album Only Love From Now On, her fourth full-length and the culmination of a build-up that really began with the turn in sound evident from third album Both Lines Will Be Blue (2019, Smalltown Supersound) and the subsequent releases Affection In A Time Of Crisis (2020, Longform Editions) and Sketch For Winter IX: Perlita (2021, Geographic North). While the seed of her aesthetic was planted earlier, it has blossomed into something unexpected, benevolent in its composure and altogether luxuriant in its sensuality. If her themes, especially now, are wide, philosophical, and occasionally abstract, the emotional tenor of Hillestad's music is clear and purposeful. Makes sense that her key musical touchstones are dub, ambient, and cosmic jazz - flexible vehicles for tranquil wonder. While it may not contain voice or lyrics, as her two earliest records do, she describes it as, "wishing to maintain a sense of careful optimism for the future, while on the cusp of something unknown." Listening to Only Love From Now On is simultaneously comforting and alluringly strange. Partly it's the contributions of guests Arve Henriksen (trumpet, electronics) and Johanna Scheie Orellana (flutes). Partly it's the fluidity between instruments - such as clarinets - field recordings, the studio, jam, and careful composition. She calls the process a conversation with sound that occurs in her deliberate attempts to experiment with new methods, like granular synthesis, for her music-making. But mostly that strange comfort is in the peace and grateful contentment she has found via the stark recognition of her own privilege - laid bare by the pandemic. Only Love From Now On is fueled by the sense of scale in feeling small in the face of things so large, the contemplation of how the biggest impact we can have is in the people close to us, the attempt to make sure that impact is a positive one, and the choice to try to focus on love instead of fear.

UK eight-piece caroline’s eponymous debut album often cascades with force like an avalanche, squalling and rumbling on the edge of all-out collapse. At other points they slip back into impossibly fragile moments of quiet – a simple bassline or a rattle of snare the only sound amid a dark sea of silence. caroline know exactly the right balance between restraint and release. These songs are expansive and emotive pieces, their rich palette drawing on a mixture of choral singing, Midwestern emo and O’Malley and Llewellyn’s roots in Appalachian folk.

“Sometimes things sound much better when there’s empty space,” says Llewellyn. “Sometimes you might populate [a song] with too many things and forget that an element on its own is enough.” Elsewhere on the record the band have employed a collage-like technique, combining snippets of lo-fi recordings from a myriad of different locations – a barn in France, the members’ bedrooms and living rooms, the atmospheric swimming pool in which they also filmed sublime live sessions for ‘Dark blue’ and ‘Skydiving onto the library roof’ – with more traditional group sessions at the Total Refreshment Centre and their studio in Peckham.

The growth that began as a scrappy guitar band above a pub many years ago is still continuing. caroline’s astounding debut album is merely the first step.

“Caroline No’s third album was built around a set of songs I was writing in the summer of 2019. I built the songs around real events, but looped these narratives into stories from song histories. The result is like an intersection of Brill Building characters such as Carole King and Neil Sedaka with the bedroom fanaticism of historical music projects like Virgin Insanity. After a year of playing the songs live in various formations, we aimed to record in the Australian summer. We knew Jim [White] (Dirty Three, Crime & The City Solution, Venom P. Stinger, etc) was going to be in Melbourne, and soon after he arrived in Australia, we met at Mick [Turner]’s (Dirty Three, Venom P. Stinger, etc) studio. Nick [Imfeld] and Mick engineered, with Ian [Wadley] (Small World Experience, Mad Nanna, etc) on bass, Jim on drums, Mick, Dee [Hannah] and me [Caroline Kennedy] on guitars, and Dee and me singing. The sense of intuitive knowledge and performance was exhilarating as we played. We spent two days in the studio, and when we listened back later, it seemed a compelling representation of what had happened, captured live. “The band on this album are artists I grew up with. We were friends first, and engaging with the material, there was no formal structure to follow. Our interpretive approach meant the songs grew from simple structural frames and narrative poetics into full sonic landscapes, engaging across pop, folk, psychedelia and improvisation. Caroline No became—for this iteration—a shifting sonic space tied to intimacy, musical conversation and relationship, expressed in an open improvisatory way. The sound of the record is the result of trust, responsiveness and mutual knowledge. “The name Caroline No was an imaginary character through much of the work, arising from the Beach Boys’ melancholic paen to encountering a past lover who has cut her hair off. My idea was for Caroline No to become the locus for an ongoing composition project where I would write back into songs’ history the perspective of patriarchal song’s subjects. “This is a recuperative project of easeful making; attempting reclamations of lost narratives, exploring love, loss and the psychedelic of the everyday.” —Caroline Kennedy

At the start of the pandemic, Carrellee turned to the microKORG and Yamaha DX7 synths after finding traditional folk music to fall a bit flat in expressing the personal intensity of the year including the dissolution of her marriage. Following her weekly demo videos amassing nearly one million streams on Facebook in 2021, Carrellee teamed up with producer Brett Bullion (Low, Poliça, Now Now), Con Davison (Bad Bad Hats) and Huntley Miller (Lizzo, Slyvan Esso) in Minneapolis to distill 40 demos down to 10 cohesive album tracks. The resulting album conjures crushed artifacts of desire, with each instrument processed through crumpled and scorched analog tape. A year and a half after releasing his self-produced, independent full-length LP Saturday Morning to critical acclaim, producer and multi-instrumentalist Carrtoons plans his return to music with his next album, Homegrown. We are happy to release another vinyl 12“ with Carsten Halm adding up to the series we have released with him so far. This ep marks the end of the series, but not the end of the relationship with Carsten. Carsten has been very successful with his releases on Traum starting with his "Taubenflug" ep in June 2020 followed by "Fuchsbau" and "Hammerhai". As we stated with his first ep: „His music has the unique quality to bring people together and experience something very positive“. Carsten showed this quality with all of his eps and last but not least this also makes him a popular DJ. Carsten plays clubs all over Germany but he still sticks to his roots and organizes parties in his hometown Cologne in his own dedicated space which he has rebuild with his friends after it was destroyed last year. The fourth vinyl release with Carsten Halm "Licht Und Schatten" highlights another cover design by graphic designer Daniela Thiel and shows collages of the animals in a similar graphic context as his previous releases. The idea was to keep the graphic idea of the series but to use only artifacts of his previous designs to create a new cover. The ep kicks off with "Licht" a track that has the quality to embrace you emotionally as well as musically with a massive warm and widening synth sounds that is a true a-side tune. "Chimäre" instead is more jumpy and good natured, resulting in a nice break to carry the listener throughout the track. "Schatten" kicks off with a rather dry drumming but in the course of the track is joined by a merry melody which is pushed aside by a bad ass rectangle synth sound that inflates the track with a techno spirit that is very welcomed at open airs. The ep closes with the track "Notes" a horse ride though valleys of sparse vegetation with a happy sad Morricone inspired soundtrack that is very easy to like.

The first release in a new catalog series dedicated to the 7" . Here are two reworks produced between Italy and the United States, inspired by Italian cosmic atmospheres of the late 70s: “Cascades” by Stephen Schlacks (1978) and “Pulsazioni” by Filippo Trecca (1979).

“Cascate Emozionali Volume One” is a tribute to these two composers, and to all others that, just like them, have created immortal melodies and atmospheres. This project is also a work of sound archeology, of careful research of the synthesizers and the sounds that have given life to the original versions, here reproduced with a contemporary luster, honoring their original essence. This music is a container full of emotions, of nostalgia for an era that no longer exists, of faded memories that are suspended in the cosmos, of moments that we miss. All of them connected to our childhood, our family, to our loved ones, and to the objects that were there all along, like the “Selene” chair of Vico Magistretti, redesigned for the cover by French illustrator Alexis Jamet.

That is not dead which can eternal lie and Catacomb, which formed back in 1990 and never disbanded ever since, are the perfect, grim, example. Became cult with their second and third demos («The Lurker at the Threshold» & «In the Maze of Kadath») made of obscure keyboards-drove, Death Metal with in-human vocals and dark melodies by incredible guitarist Anthony Derycke and the release of the later one by legendary label Drowned Productions as their debut 7", the band toured Europe with Mercyless back in 1993 and slowly started to fade back in the shadow where gloomy beasts belong. An attempt of a comeback in 2001 with the «We Shall Inherit» EP and that was nearly it as the Great Old One got back to its under-seas city for aeons of dreamless sleep. But the cult outlived the monster and, besides an official compilation, countless bootleg and partly official releases saw the light of the day until it woke up from its slumber late 2019 and signed to Xe-nokorp for the re-recording of «In the Maze of Kadath» and more to come. After two decasdes of si-lence, Catacomb are now back… to unknown Kadath, celebrating 30 years of Lovecraftian Death Metal with a brand new recording at long last!

Due to popular demand, Indigo Soul are releasing a limited edition one-off Vinyl press of Catching Flies' first EP 'The Stars' on Vinyl to mark it's 10 year anniversary. Support for the EP came from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Bonobo, Odesza, Lauren Laverne, iD Magazine, Clash Magazine, Mixmag, NME, The Line of Best Fit and more.
Catching Flies – aka multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ George King – is the very model of a modern musician. He blurs the boundaries between mainstream and underground, and between electronic and "real" music as easily as the biggest and the best. His music is a bass heavy yet melodic mesh of broody electronics and intricate rhythms, containing shades of everything from hip-hop to house, from soul to jazz.

The Stars was followed up by Catching Flies' debut album 'Silver Linings' in July 2019. Containing shades of everything from hip-hop to house, from soul to jazz, it was hailed as 'a soundtrack to Summertime' by the 405 - and was awarded album of the month by Future Music who described it as 'a brilliantly eclectic record… a moving journey that will last long in the memory.' Clash Magazine praised the LP's 'killer beats' and 'artfully orchestrated introspection,' whilst London In Stereo praised it's 'exceptional production.' Other press coverage for the album included The Guardian, Complex, Nowness, iD Magazine, Dazed & Confused, The Line of Best Fit and more. He has received radio support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac, Lauren Laverne, Mary Anne Hobbes & Huw Stephens. Artist support for 'Silver Linings' has come from the likes of Bonobo, Jungle, Loyle Carner, Nils Frahm, George Fitzgerald and Lane 8. He toured the album performing headline Live shows throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and North America, as well as DJ shows at Bonobo's 'outlier' event series in Europe and North America. He was also recently nominated for a Bafta ('Best Music' category) for his soundtrack work on a video game.

As with a choice few truly great bands, the first self-financed cassette recording by Cathedral - made available in October 1990 - was a pioneering underground masterpiece in its own right; the sound of a young band exploring its newfound chemistry, finding confident variations on a flawless list of influences and cultivating a sound and style that would prove hugely inspirational throughout the 1990s and beyond, being a major influence on everyone from Electric Wizard through to Reverend Bizarre.
Where most demos are little more than a dry run for the first album, "In Memoriam" still has its own distinct and important identity in the Cathedral canon. The debut LP that followed, "Forest Of Equilibrium", has a sombre, devout, melodic and mystical grandeur all of its own - but 'In Memoriam' has a far murkier, earthier, more deathly intent. Creepy, cryptic and bowel-looseningly heavy, it represents the first time that the doom metal stylings of Trouble, Saint Vitus, Pentagram and Witchfinder General had been rendered in a new, more extreme metallic form. At the beginning of the new decade, it was really only Cathedral who were proud to assert the influence of true doom metal - a perennially unfashionable genre, but especially in a turn-of-the-decade metal scene so obsessed with speed, technicality, brutality and modernity.
