DJ Pierre’s legendary Jack Trax Records returns with a delicious set of raw acid tracks from Finnish producer Type-303, who made his 12” wax debut on Posthuman’s I Love Acid imprint, with a release on Lobster-distributed ProForm this past fall.
“What is the Time?” kicks things off with a jacking beat reminiscent of the classic Chicago acid house sound, answering the question with “it’s time to jack”.
Next up is “Sound of Future”, alluding to Phuture’s classic “Acid Track” with a tough, driven beat and acid line that builds up to a psychedelic frenzy of claps, snares, and rides.
The title track, “Ghost in the 303”, follows suit with more of Type-303’s punchy percussion, interjected by moments of frenzied 16th claps, paired with an eerie, otherworldly pad taking the listener deep into the soul of the machine, the classic TB-303.

Out of the social unrest and revolutionary times of the early 1970s a new musical art form emerged on the streets of Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. A group of young guys started to combine poetry with drumming and created the musical art form that is known today as Rapso.
Poets known as much for their fiery verses as they were for leading protests were at the vanguard of the 1970s Black Power revolution. There was a new consciousness building in the Trinidad and Tobago arts scene. The two most influential characters were Cheryl Byron and Lancelot Layne.
Lutalo ‘Brother Resistance’ Masimba and others would play basketball during the day and come back out at night, ‘liming’ and playing drums. Other people from the block would join with instruments and Brother Resistance would perform his poetry on the rhythms. The prestigious boys school that Resistance attended refused to acknowledge his attempts at creating verses that reflected the rhythm of the Trinidad and Tobago creole. ''They said it wasn't poetry. They didn't want to put it in the school magazine.''
Resistance and his friends toyed with other words to describe their style. They came up with 'rapsody' but one night during a show in Santa Cruz somebody in the audience shouted out ''How you could rap so!'' And the rest is history.
They recorded their first album ‘Bustin Out’ in 1980. More albums followed and they started to work as producers. In 1986 the band performed at ‘Caribbean Focus’ festival in London and toured the U.K. which helped to lift their reputation internationally. The same year Brother Resistance decided to produce his first solo album and went to England to record ‘Rapso Take Over’. This album contains the highly acclaimed tracks Ring De Bell, Dancing Shoes Rapso and Star Wars Rapso. An unreleased take of Wars In Rapso is featured on this Cree Records 12''.
The band wasn’t too impressed with the ‘English’ production and they decided to record a new version of the song. Junior Wharwood recorded the guitar tracks. Resistance came up with the idea of Tonight Is De Night. The more or less improvised song became a big carnival hit in Trinidad and he went to perform it live with bands like Sound Revolution, Shandileer and Charlie’s Roots.
At the time, these tracks received little airplay in Trinidad and Tobago, but they're undeniable hits that continue to be in demand dancefloor bangers. For this 12'' we have selected four of Brother Resistance's most in demand tracks. Long live Kaiso – Rapso take over!

Pharoah Sanders: Live at the Antibes Jazz Festival in Juan-les-Pins July 21, 1968 Experimental jazz titan Pharoah Sanders made a lasting impact with his unorthodox approach to tenor saxophone. Born Farrell Sanders in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1940, he was given the nickname Pharoah by grandmother, in reference to the potential regal lineage of his African heritage. Playing clarinet at church services during his youth, he began playing tenor sax at high school. In 1959 he moved to Oakland, California, where he played with rhythm and blues bands and befriended John Coltrane. Moving to New York in 1961, he drifted into Sun Ra’s Arkestra after experiencing a difficult period of homelessness. His status began to rise upon joining Coltrane’s band in 1965, where his discordant solos formed a strong contrast to Trane’s more melodious sound, though each player had a strong impact on the other’s subsequent work. Following Coltrane’s untimely death in 1967, Sanders formed a quartet of his own with former Jazz Messengers pianist Lonnie Liston Smith, bassist Norman ‘Sirone’ Jones of the Untraditional Jazz Improvisational Team, and drummer Majeed Shabazz. For this blistering performance, given at the Antibes Jazz Festival of 1968 and broadcast on French radio station WDR3, the quartet moves through various Sanders free-jazz workouts, taking in “Venus” from the Tauhid album and “The Creator Has A Master Plan” from Karma along the way, with the rhythm section holding down the fort as Sanders blows himself into the stratosphere.

Formed in Cleveland, OH by producer/activist Ra Washington, Mourning [A] BLKstar is a multi-generational, gender and genre non-conforming amalgam of Black Culture dedicated to servicing the stories and songs of the apocalyptic diaspora. In keeping with the pace that the collective that is M[A]B set since 2016, Washington presented a series of song sketches during the summer of 2018 -- one per week -- while the group practiced and toured their debut records, BLK Musak (Glue Moon Records, 2016) and The Possible (2017). The result, Reckoning, will be released on April 6th, 2019 in collaboration with Don Giovanni Records. Reckoning represents a deep dive into the M[A]B vaults -- a dizzying array of styles, big boy reverb, the heat transversing through love won and love lost, and the tensions that go with living in a world that is increasingly hostile to POC futures and wholly locked in on its disgusting treatment of the poor.

Anonymous internet supergroup Drugface is going public, unmasking themselves as Multi Culti audiovisionary Thomas Von Party and Montreal cult legend John Shape, who absorbed the life rights to the Beaver Sheppard Story in an online game of Russian Roulette. If you’re reading this, the Von Party element probably makes so much sense that you’ll never forgive yourself for not realizing it sooner. The vibes, the production; it was there the whole time. Eagleeared listeners may have ID’d Shape from his Ricardo Villalobos-produced remix pack on Sei Es Drum, or as the singer in German instrumental band Brandt Brauer Frick. Those who guessed both members are now on some kind of list.
“In the Clouds” is the latest single from the secretly prolific duo, a synaesthetic window into a realm where everything tastes like data and everything sounds like mushrooms. Bside “On the Prowl” is a collaboration with Multi Culti vitamin-shaman Dreems, with the results entrusted to Finnish synth-lord Jori Hulkkonen to ensure everything holds up 9,000 years from now.
For the remixes, Simple Symmetry pull you through a wormhole to the sunny beaches of Moscow, The Beat Escape add massive doses of class and elegance. We tested these descriptions on 50 tastemaker chimps, and all 50 were still at least “somewhat jazzed” about hearing the tracks anyway.

Originally released in 1998 on the iconic Frankfurt imprint Mille Plateaux, and then reissued in 2016 as a part of GAS “BOX”, Zauberberg is now released on his own label Kompakt on 180 gram 3LP vinyl in its original artwork. Königsforst brings glimmers of light into Voigt’s dark, magnificent forest. Melodic strings and brass are added to his signature layers of ominous intensity. The forest path is laid out by muffled kick drums as classical music loops incessantly swirl with no direction.

Kees Heus) and brothers Tenzers (a.k.a. Vincent & Siemen Tenzer), the Super-Sonic Jazz recordlabel, their six day festival, monthly concerts and exquisite clubnights becomes a serious movement within the Dutch musical landscape.
Kees Heus was also responsible for the running the Dutch imprint Kindred Spirits, that released records by international heavyweights, while championing local pioneers simultaneously.

Shellac Album Nummer 6, The End of Radio, besteht aus zwei bisher unveröffentlichten John Peel BBC Radio Sessions. Die erste Session wurde 1994 im BBC Maida Vale Studio 3 aufgenommen und ursprünglich im Juli 1994 in John Peels BBC Radio One Show ausgestrahlt. Die vier Songs wurden auf 24 Spuren aufgenommen und am selben Tag in Stereo gemischt. Während im Oktober 1994 auf dem Debütalbum "At Action Park" eine Studioversion von "Crow" veröffentlicht wurde, tauchten die Studioversionen von "Canada", "Disgrace" und "Spoke" erst viel später auf den Shellac-Alben Terraform (1998) und Excellent Italian Greyhound (2007) auf, so dass die 1994er Peel Session-Versionen für mehrere Jahre die einzigen offiziellen Aufnahmen dieser Songs waren. Die zweite Peel Session von 2004 ist ein "Live From Maida Vale" Konzert, das live in Stereo vor einem kleinen Publikum im BBC Maida Vale Studio 4 aufgenommen wurde. Es wurde ursprünglich im Dezember desselben Jahres ausgestrahlt. Wie bei der Session 1994 enthielt diese Aufnahme Songs, die zu dem Zeitpunkt unveröffentlicht waren und erst Jahre später als Albumversionen erscheinen würden. Studioversionen von "The End of Radio", "Steady As She Goes" und "Paco" wurden 2007 auf Excellent Italian Greyhound veröffentlicht. The four songs were recorded to 24-track and then mixed to stereo on the same day. While a studio version of "Crow" was released in October of 1994 on the band's debut album At Action Park, studio versions of "Canada", "Disgrace", and "Spoke" would not appear on any Shellac albums until much later (1998's Terraform and 2007's Excellent Italian Greyhound) - making the 1994 Peel Session recordings the only official recordings of these songs for several years thereafter. 2004 PEEL SESSION TRACK LISTING: Ghosts / The End of Radio / Canada / Paco / Steady As She Goes / Billiard Player Song / Dog and Pony Show / Il Porno Star The 2004 Peel session is a "Live From Maida Vale" session recorded live to stereo in front of a small audience at BBC Maida Vale Studio 4. It originally aired in December of that same year. As with the 1994 session, this recording includes songs that were previously unreleased and would not appear as album versions until years later. (Album versions of "The End of Radio", "Steady As She Goes", and "Paco" were released in 2007 on Excellent Italian Greyhound.) PACKAGING Both the 2xLP and the 2xCD formats are packaged in a top-load single pocket wide spine jacket with two printed inner sleeves. The 2xLP includes a single CD of the full album. QC The LP was mastered at Chicago Mastering Service. The vinyl pressing was manufactured at RTI in Camarillo, California, on 180 gram audiophile quality vinyl. TOURING The band will continue to play shows or tour at the same sporadic and relaxed pace as always. There is no correlation between shows and record releases. There will be more new material in the future.
