"The Prophet and the King" is a collaborative project from Solomon
Childs and Tone Spliff. The album hosts 11 solid tracks (two of which
are only available on CD) and 3 skits.
Solomon and Tone called upon the heavy-hitters ; Inspectah Deck (Wu
Tang), Sadat X (Brand Nubian), Rock (Heltah Skeltah), Conway the
Machine (Shady Records/Griselda), Realio Sparkzwell, Recognize Ali,
Sav Killz, Mazzi & Stryfe for the album's guest appearances.
ABOUT SOLOMON CHILDS:
Rapper and Staten Island native Solomon Childs (born Walbert Ryan
Dale in 1975) became affiliated with the mighty Wu-Tang Clan through
his family ties to god-brother Cappadonna and cousin Ghostface Killah.
Solomon contributed to various Wu-Tang related classics throughout
the late '90s and early 2000s, including verses on Cappadonna's The
Pillage, RZA's Bobby Digital, Ghostface Killah's Supreme Clientele and
others. In the early 2000s he was a member of the Ghostface affiliated
group Theodore Unit, as well as appearing on tracks by other artists
and working on his own releases.
In 2016 Solomon was shot twice in a drive-by shooting while out
shopping in Staten Island. The rapper underwent multiple surgeries
but survived the attempt on his life.
"The Prophet and the King" is Solomon's second album from when this
tragic incident occurred.
ABOUT TONE SPLIFF:
Los Angeles based DJ and Producer Tone Spliff (born Anthony John
Mucitelli in 1981) is grounded in an east coast sound and steeped in
tradition with an ever present emphasis on the DJ/Turntablist.
Tone links up with Solomon Childs to deliver an instant classic Hip Hop
album, sounding like a beast on the drum machine and the 1’s and 2’s,
it’s apparent Tone Spliff has some skills to flex on this album.
The beat-creator, originally from Utica, NY, has made his mark in the
underground Hip Hop community by working with artists such as
Royce Da 5'9, Sean Price, Krumbsnatcha, Big Shug, Planet Asia,
Apathy, Slaine, Ed OG, Skyzoo, Big Noyd, El Da Sensei, Saigon and
many more. Songs from his previous albums have made a worldwide
buzz by landing on popular sites and radio shows like: The Source

“This Remix Album is an ode to Hus Kingpin and some of the work we have done over the years…



I linked up with Wavo about 8 years ago. SmooVth and him had heard some of my tracks on Soundcloud of all places, and wrote me regarding my music. I was quickly captivated by their style and demeanor, so it was a no brainer for me to start working with the two.



The first record I did with Hus was a Remix track of “Time Is Runnin’ Out” which was the opening track on my “New Horizon” album featuring Guilty Simpson. His verse totally blew me away, and from that day forward he became one of my favorite emcees and still is to this day.



From that point on we’ve done quite a bit of work together. Both for his projects and my own. So it was only right that I gave this album of his the M.W.P. treatment. I will forever feel blessed that he helped me gain some momentum in the game and I feel privileged to have worked with such a talented artist as him.



Hopefully this will not be the last you hear from M.W.P. and Hus Kingpin, but for now enjoy my interpretation of Bolio: Reze Pelo Rio.”

"Gunz From Italy" by Realio Sparkzwell, produced by Tone Spliff, is a raw and gritty hip-hop album that oozes with underground flavor. The album's unique vibe is thanks in part, to the fact that all of its tracks are built around samples from Italian music, giving each song an intriguing old-world feel.

Realio Sparkzwell's rhymes are sharp, intelligent, and infused with a keen street sensibility that keeps listeners engaged from start to finish. He deftly weaves tales of his experiences growing up in Upstate New York, touching on topics like poverty and crime.

The title track "Gunz From Italy" is reminiscent of the classic mid 90's. The hypnotic beat just catches you right off the bat and the cuts are incredible. You would think the song would be glorifying guns but if you pay attention to the lyrics, Realio is talking about the worldwide tragedy and hypocrisy of it all. Overall its a deep song that is quite mesmerizing and has great playback value.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Dynasties," on which Realio Sparkzwell takes listeners on a journey through the city, backed by a mafioso string melody. He showcases his lyrical dexterity on this track, delivering mordant one-liners alongside intricate rhymes.

Another highlight of "Gunz From Italy" is the track "Mambo," which features the album's only guest verse by Copywrite of mHZ. The two emcees spit verses over a recognizable Italian classic, showcasing their undeniable rhyme chemistry.

Tone Spliff's production on the album is top-notch, with each beat feeling like an homage to the Italian music and culture which they both come. It's clear that he and Realio Sparkzwell share a strong music-making synergy, with each track complementing the other.

Following several tragedies in his personal life, New York rapper El Gant had a decision to make—face those losses head on or bury them deep within. Luckily for us, he chose the former. The result is O.S.L.O., the emcee’s most gripping and personal project yet. It’s also his most relatable, because it shows what we’re all capable of when we’re equipped with the right tools to cope and, in El Gant’s case, transform that tragedy into something powerful.



The album arrives nearly a decade after his previous solo effort, 2014’s great Beast Academy, and after several years spent touring and recording with his group, Jamo Gang, with Ras Kass and J57. Despite the highs associated with that time, El Gant also experienced major personal losses. In particular, he lost three close friends—The Last Original, Bones, and Jim Misa—all of whom had a major impact on his life and career. In fact, the album’s title, O.S.L.O., references the Last Original, because it’s an acronym for “Our Sun the Last Original.”



“His death really made me think about life and I made some huge transformations after that mentally, physically, and financially,” El Gant says. You can hear that personal growth on standout tracks like “Leave It Alone” and “Rubber Match,” produced by the legendary DJ Premier and J57, respectively. But it’s the stirring closing track, “Beautiful Disaster,” where El Gant speaks on losing his close friend, the Last Original, and how he found beauty amidst the chaos of those final days.



But it wouldn’t be an El Gant project without some straight-up dope hip-hop, too. Tracks like “Avirex (feat. Innocent? & King Magnetic)” and “Chromed Out (feat. Ras Kass & Planet Asia)” are absolute bangers filled with shape-shifting flows and crazy wordplay.



There’s a reason for these tonal shifts, too; El Gant didn’t want to simply create a linear album. “I want to take the listener on a few ups and downs, just like life does for most of us,” the emcee says. It’s those qualities that make O.S.L.O. so immediately satisfying, and why it’s his most accomplished work to date.

HHE is back with some legendary old school Houston, TX hip-hop! Rap-A-Lot headz better take notice right now!! For those unfamiliar, NoDōz were an old school rap duo out of Houston, TX created by the legendary Def Jam Blaster and rapper D. Latroi.



Def Jam Blaster... aaah where to begin? Maybe back in 1987 when he worked on a 7" which started the career of a local rapper named DJ Akshen? Or 1988 when he worked on one of the most iconic 12" records Ever in hip-hop? A 12" from that same rapper Akshen that would have the world forever know him as Scarface from that day on. Or when Def Jam Blaster started the duo Private Identity in 1989 with another legendary Houston rapper 3-2? Or how in 90's Def Jam Blaster worked on albums for Raheem, Royal Flush, Willie D, Big Mello, Madd Hatta and Mobb Deep.



I think you get my point by now, this is a man that paid his dues with the best of them... Now back to our story... After Private Identity died down after doing some recordings Def Jam Blaster hooked back up with D. Latroi, a rapper he met a year before, and started making some demos, material that has remained shelved up until now as we have had the pleasure to include them as bonus tracks for the CD release.



In 1992 NoDōz were signed to Revolution Records, an imprint that was focused primarily on R&B. Right before they could finish the album D. Latroi started having some serious health issues and Revolution Records started second guessing their decision to drop a hip-hop record so the album was shelved.



Now 30 years later we are excited to present you all the tracks from those 1992 sessions, the demos and remixes all from the DAT tapes. The 8 page booklet will include an interview done by Werner Von Wallenrod with Def Jam Blaster which was done specifically for this release. All tracks remastered by Justin Perkins and DJ Pyra-C and the entire CD layout was handled by man Laurence Di Lullo.

After studying political science at Lincoln, the Philly native originally saw himself working for the United Nations. That is until Dr. Dre, who got Emp’s tape from a college buddy, signed him to his Aftermath label. Even though his debut never came to fruition, The Last Emperor made the decision to further pursue a rap career. The Last Emperor made the decision then to permanently move to New York where he began performing at open mic nights and started getting a lot of attention from labels. He then proceeded to sign with Rawkus, where he released a single but Rawkus folded 6 months after he signed so his debut album was postponed once again. After that The Last Emperor decided to take matters into his own hands and launched Red Planet Music. In collaboration with Raptivism he then released "Music, Magic, and Myth" in 2003 and later on the same year "Palace of the Pretender" in the UK which pretty much had a similar tracklist. The group’s single “Drug Game” was recognized by The Source magazine with a powerful write up praising them for the songs socially conscious lyrics. The music video was shot by then up and coming video director Hype Williams and debuted on Ralph McDaniel’ Video Music Box as well as Bet’s Rap City. The group parted ways in the late 90’s and Supreme who later changed his name to Chop Diesel went on to form a production collective called “The Dream Team”. Their production credits include Ali Vegas, AZ, Nas, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Diddy, Run-DMC, DJ Kay Slay, Teddy Riley, Dave Hollister & more.

Murder Inc. was a rap group from New Orleans, consisting of Crazy, Legend Man, MC L and Alamo.
They only released 2 albums while signed with Hard Head Records entitled; "Playin' For Keeps" and "Let's Die Together," before each artist went solo; following the death of their CEO in 1996.
Hard Head Records was a New Orleans based rap label, active through 1993-1997. Founded by Roderick Smith, whom at the age of 24 was shot and killed, resulting in the label ending with the last album release and project by group Murder Inc., entitled; "Let's Die Together." Crazy and Legend Man signed in 1996/7 with Ruff Era Records, followed by MC L signing with Bally Boy Records, and Alamo ending her rap career.

After the release of debut record Gris-Gris, Dr. John found himself in a strange and awkward position. The US was deep into the Vietnam War, and the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy were fresh in the public memory. On top of that, Dr. John was being pursued by various Los Angeles authorities for a handful of criminal offenses. It was, in his own words: "a heavy time for me." Much like Sly & The Family Stone's There's A Riot Goin' On, Dr. John's follow-up album Babylon would be a reflection of the chaotic and tumultuous time that he was living in. He and band dove deeper into the voodoo-inflected psychedelic rock and R&B of Gris-Gris, while touching upon elements of free jazz and Captain Beefheart-style avant garde. As with his debut record, production was handled by the legendary Harold Battiste, and much of the same session personnel who performed on it returned for Babylon, including Plas Johnson on saxophone, Alvin Robinson on guitar, and backing vocals from Jessie Hill, Shirley Goodman, and Tami Lynn. Babylon stands out as one of Dr. John's most overtly political albums, and is a singularly murky and darkly entrancing record in his discography. A psychedelic swamp of apocalyptic lyrical content, drunk, disorienting experimentation, and a fascinating entry into Dr. John's catalogue well-worthy of his expansive legacy.
