When Harold Boue aka Abstraxion invited Fantastic Man into his studio after playing together the night before he didn't knew he was planting the seed for a new project. As he recalls, it was "a day of intense sun in Marseille with not enough sleep", but the result was so great that it inspired Harold to work on new tracks around the idea of creating music to reflect his city: a bit rough, but luminous and influenced by elements of Mediterranean, African and Northern European cultures. This has translated into a heavily percussive sound, in which tribal disco grooves invoke the spirits of voodoo-techno. Three cuts driven by warmly distorted rhythms, bursts of primitive drums, rubbery synths and uplifting chants that overall feel like the first sunrays after an excursion through a dark cave: both blinding and blissful. The project's name is a tribute to the astrological sign of Harold's son, who was born at the same time as the music on the EP. It was the definitive signal he needed to convince himself it was the right time to start something new and different. And an event that for sure helps understanding the vibes that this music transmits: as pure, fresh and powerful as only a new beginning can be.

Master Zeng's students are superior by far and win every battle, but Master Hong has an ace up his sleeve. He announces a challenge with the mysterious Five Element ninjas. "Liquid Shorts" and its gigantic drums and menacing spirit spurs on the strongest students facing the challenge. Weapons collide, blows rain down, limbs get chopped. The students are not aware of the strength of the ninjutsu technique. None survive the battle.

Beartone records are back with their seventh release, showcasing the increasingly sophisticated sound of label boss Bearface and an appropriate and exciting link up with the Romanian minimal house scene in the form of a remix from the uber-respected and prolific Vlad Caia (Amphia Records, Sit). From West London to Bucharest, the love of minimal, trippy and atmospheric House crosses national boundaries and dancefloors. Here we have four solid tracks, all showcasing the lovingly crafted attention to sound design that these two exciting producers are known for.

The EP kicks off with ‘Shikazu’ (original mix), a subtle, poly-rhythmic micro-house delight. Razor sharp, trebly hi-hats and a solid kick underpin barely caught glimpses of swirling, organic sounds and faint touches of reverbed chords lingering in the background. Perfect for those late-night moments, it feels like digital birds and corrupted circuit boards singing to each other in a mystical garden of not-so-earthly delights. Vlad Caia adds a little complexity to the remix, adding a few layers to the rhythm track but staying faithful to the atmospheric intent of the original. Touches of melody in the bassline and melancholic chords stretch and build the track into an intriguing soundscape that would work alike for both discerning dancefloors and the horizontal groover at home. On the flip, ‘Woodsman’ continues the otherworldly theme, starting with a playful, shifting metronomic tick before layers of percussion and multiple shimmering chord washes overwhelm you. This feels like a beautiful transition between worlds, with elements drifting in and out of the mix but never becoming dominant or lingering beyond their welcome. Mesmerizing stuff. Finally, ‘Reduts’ shifts into a slightly darker, more lo-fi approach that crosses the boundary of tech-house and starts nudging the edges of techno. A long percussion intro slowly deepens in intensity before rupturing into fractured, glitchy electronics and live sounding cymbal flicks, before suddenly subsiding into a pool of echo and reverb.

In July 2019 RUMPELN and DANIEL DOOR (Jahmoni Music) went on a tour through the UK and the Benelux. This 12" was recorded and mixed by Seb-I and Nick McCarthy (Manuela, Lunsentrio, Franz Ferdinand) at Sausage Studios, Hackney, London during this summer of delete.
Pumping proto-rhythms disrupting a wall of distortion building up from unintelligible screams, broadcasts of gadgets on the brink of destruction, DIY instruments made of springs, shards of metal and trash, all hardly held together by a skinny, long-haired figure jumping in the flicker of glitched out AV loops – there’s a deep understanding to be found in Anton Kaun’s performances that we, as animals, will never really get along with our electronics.
With his latest setup, „wallwart scales“, Daniel Door explores the sonic depths of a bundle of wallwart power outlets. Disconnected from the machines (like smartphones, external hard drives and old Casio keyboards) they once fed with electricity, their distinctive inner wiring becomes the base of a microtonal scale made audible by an EMF microphone (the Elektrosluch made by LOM, Batrislava, Slovakia) and mangled in a constantly re-sampling arrangement by an Elektron Octatrack sampler.

As we love our music multifaceted, we love our artwork colorful. So, after PINK, RED, ORANGE and BLUE, we'll give you GREEN, the fifth out of seven records that we release in celebration of our 50th catalogue number. Again, the captivating artwork is the brainchild of Leipzig's graphic duo Doppeldenk. And don't get misled: there are no greenhorns amongst the artists assembled on this EP. You know that moment when you dance in the club, self-forgotten, the everyday life has no meaning and only those dancers next to you count. Iron Curtis' AGAINST MY WINDOW (DAZED MIX) is a pretty perfect soundtrack for this scene. The dreamy pads are an invitation to stop thinking and just enjoy the moment. At the same time, the elegant House affair has enough drum pressure for long lasting dancing extravaganzas. Leipzig's Perm is coming up with the straightforward and pumping Electro bliss called VLIW, a track that is perfectly balanced in its urgent desire for Metropolis but also heartbreaking moments. On the flipside there's the first signal from Uncanny Valley regular CVBox after almost three years without any transmission. In advance to his forthcoming EP he is back in typical fashion, delivering CAT CUT CLAPS, a mean Dub-Acid-monster that wraps you up with inimitable sci-fi narratives coming straight up from his machinery. The third release on Derek Russo’s own Broad Channel imprint “Special Occasion" EP arrives loaded with a wide palate of club swagger for any hour of the party. “Celestial Machine” is the A1 rough and rumbling trip, steered by a wiggly Sh101 bass line and anchored by a thunderous sub bass and tenacious, rattling percussion. A floating pad briefly takes the edge off before lurching back. The sounds here are inspired and shaped by the aching cacophony of city life. “Yearning 4 Love” marries a Detroit inspired motif, with tasteful synth layering and bouncy, off-kilter drum programming. The result is an inquisitive banger, something different for the modern dance floor. On the flip side, the title track ‘Special Occasion’ drops the tempo to a chugging rhythm that swings from a funky break tucked underneath. Deranged piano chords open up to a sinister synth line, jangling guitar and a thick 80s bass line. The final track “Planet Sunset” closes out this EP with a soaring, introspective synth floating on top of a rolling breakbeat groove, disco fed bass work and Juno stabs that resolves into a wave of oozy pad chords - a sure piece for the late night discerning dance floor.

Max Chapman returns to Toolroom following on from his debut release 'Zulu' which stormed the Beatport charts and gained massive Radio One specialist support. This time around he teams up with studio buddy ThreeSix, formally known as M.A.F.F, on 'Make A Move', marking another huge release. There's not many young artists who can boast such a solid following across the World but Max is certainly one of them. As a relative newcomer to the scene, ThreeSix started to release music in July 2019 and he's already gained a loyal community of supporters and has released on labels Under No Illusion, LDN Trax and Lost Audio. Making the decision to go back to his original roots with his ThreeSix outlet, he is certainly an artist to keep your eye on this year: We are all facing difficult times but it's important to stay positive and use this time to better our career and ourselves. Reemerging from the threshold of the cosmic vortex, Black Lodge returns with another sonic artifact that is charged with vigorous chaotic energy, known as Experiment_zero. Accounts of the radiant object's origin are as mysterious as the raw energy that utters from its core. Following a close study, the guardians of the portal suspect that "Experiment Zero" was a primordial experiment rooted in the slam jack pits and DIY warehouse rituals of ages passed. A sonic dialog constructed of various languages, spanning from roots-house jak to bare-knuckled electro are revealed across the artifact - a revolutionary tale that surpasses the constructs of ephemerality, with a refusal to be ignored. Across the release the listener is confronted with fearless acid lines that are underscored by a tone of revolution, and sets the stage for a human voice that switches between modes of a sharp and mutated presence. The power of such sonic objects are both celebrated and rejected by various tribal societies. It is all dependent on the belief structures and traditional histories of its members. Those that belong to the cult of Ron Hardy, Mad Mike Banks, Traxx, and JTC will welcomingly be drenched in its riotous energies. It is for the dedicated, not the light-hearted. After further research it has been discovered that, Experiment Zero is the product of Dona, aka Dj Plant Texture and Mike Tansella Jr. of Son of Traders, both products of the ancient mercantile city of Bari in Southern Italy. Previous works from these artists have been featured on Creme Organization, Gravitational Waves, Unknown to Unknown, and Illian Tapes. All sonic experimentation was recorded in one take to capture the raw energy of instantaneous collaborative sound craft operating in flux. Black Lodge's 4th release is sure to find a space in the music collections of those seeking to travel within the uncanny portals that unforgivingly defy the status quo. Utopia is an unimaginable alter world that is created by Mastering Black’s universe of sonic escapism.

When I have been overwhelmed with the amount of work that I've been doing in the past years, I have decided that I needed a certain get away - a certain sacred space for me to pursue the reason why I actually signed up for this in the beginning. Music composing that love is!

Earlier this year , during a trip in African island group Cabo Verde, we went to this night excursion to the Viana desert. We have taken some random photos shot some videos of the Moon thru a telescope. That didn’t struck me as an amazing experience yet I was there many distorted feelings in my mind trying to enjoy and forcing myself trying to be in the moment.

So when I have looked at these pictures back on a calmer state when I was home In NL , I've seen the vast amount of breather - a space - enough that is needed in life to let the blood flow in vein the way it’s suppose to flow. Envisioning your life from moon to create clarity - looking to life on earth - to understand what our mistakes are as human beings - or learning from 8 years old’s pure heart - that’s when my 8 year old daughter collaborated with the fist opening track to summarize the main purpose of our life - love or so called Utopia!

One more year, we are now working tirelessly on our beloved label. Just as we did last year, this 2023, we are back with our 'anaøh Invites' series.

Last year we had the wonderful presence of James Ruskin and Ben Sims as guests of honor, that wonderful 12' vinyl sold out in a few weeks, however it is time to present our second volume, where again Dig-It and Fixon as hosts of the label invite 2 artists to join them and release original 4 tracks on a special edition 12' vinyl. In this second chapter we have the presence of a veteran whom we respect and love deeply, one of the main people responsible for the classic hardgroove sound , Mark Williams. As well as one of our wonder boys, the virtuous Cravo.

We feel honored and moved to have this second collaboration, which we hope will please everyone! Thank you for all the love and support during these first 7 years of adventure.

SY Rockers is the new project from Ryan Aitchison aka Mella Dee and Kallida Festival bossman Reuben G. Their story goes all the way back to 2009, when Reuben invited Ryan to be a resident for his party LSS at Hi-Fi Club in Leeds. The pair went on to bond over their shared love of bass-led music in the UK underground, a sound that was especially important to their native South Yorkshire. Fourteen years on, Ryan and Reuben revisit those early inspirations as SY Rockers. Their debut EP is a slickly produced expression of bleep, UK techno, bassline and dub, redrawing lines between the sound legacies of cities like Sheffield, Bradford and Leeds across three tracks. True to those roots, the result is a hypnotic blend of raw drums and subsonic impact. ‘Windy Dub’ introduces the record with a hazy, heads-down bass, occasionally shivering into a cavernous space echo before it locks back into a haunting synth hook. ‘Modem’ does what it says on the tin: gameboy tones bounce around a warm sub, calling back the ‘less is more’ aesthetic of the original bleep era. Finally, ‘Rhythm Resonate’ zooms in on where it all started—the drum machine. 909s, lasers and a touch of perc combine to create the ultimate techno tool.
