And so, when ambling verse figure disorients the listener, it repeats until she feels at home in it (The Birds Nest). Their tri-state type Tex-Mex sound really shook things up. Their reputation as a live act grew exponentially with every show they played. The sort of thing that has a tendency to get written out of history despite being timeless, it doesn't easily fit into any premeditated narrative.When "The Many Moods Of Ben Vaughn Combo" appeared in 1986, the Combo literally had the world at its feet. Many of the hits you hear when you see him (and the Quintet) today are on this platter. Long out of print and somewhat sought after, this was the first time that Ben's Rambler car was heard on a record. And not the last.The Andy (then Adny) Shernoff inspired 'I Dig Your Wig' is like The Cramps with a Doug Sahm infusion. The accordion is the secret weapon here. Little used in rock 'n roll and often scoffed at, it allows these songs a setting that your conventional instrumentation would just flatten. Reading the sleeve info you'll see the legend "DEDICATED TO THE GEATOR", a nod to the legendary Philly DJ that inspired Ben to come up with his sound. It sounds just as fresh now as it did back then.Perhaps you're too young to have been around when this record album was first available? Maybe you wore your three copies out? Rescued from old cassette tapes, that recording finally comes out five decades later, displaying the rebel spirit of a group influenced by Mersey beat, surf and garage."Me gritan melenudo" contains 'Alma agobiada', their only original composition, plus raw covers of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Troggs, Lovin' Spoonful, Miriam Makeba and The Ventures. It also includes two more Beatles songs and a couple of covers from the Wild In The Street soundtrack recorded in 1970 by Los Yoguis, as the group was known at the end of their short-lived career. Plus many photos, a family tree and the detailed story of the band.More details?In 1968, The Silver Thunders enjoyed a good reputation within the Bogotá rock circuit. Whether it was for the crazy and insolent image they projected or for the flair they exuded on stage, the four young musicians were regulars on radio and television programs, at youth dances and legendary discos like La Fiebre, The Ship, La Caverna, La Jaula, La Bomba, Panauto and El Diábolo de Oro. All they needed was a record to consolidate their popularity.Today, none of the three living members of the band remembers where they got the money from to invest in the recording, but they got together three or four hours a week over several months in 1968 at the studio Suramericana de Grabaciones. The details of the sessions are hazy and nobody knows who sat behind the mixing desk. However, Jorge López (lead guitar) and Orlando Córdoba (bass guitar) both say that the studio was uncomfortable and precarious. This didn't undermine the group's upbeat spirit. Next up on Feral Child (and the penultimate full length of the year for the label), sees the fabulous collaboration between Justin Wright (Expo 70) and Grant Corum (Million Brazilians, Timelash, Psychic Sounds Ensemble) Blazing Worlds. The duo’s self-titled full length was recorded during a week long Midwest summer scorcher, and expands and contracts with six heavily hallucinatory movements that only hellishly humid nights could induce. One that seasoned sonic psychonauts Justin Wright and Grant Corum could venture to manifest a deep phantasmagoric excursion through brilliant atmospheres in a seamless collection. The material on Blazing Worlds harkens back to Wright’s synth-driven ’Sorcerer of Sound’ full of cosmic tones and other worldliness aura, in tandem with Corum’s bent woodwind work and extraterrestrial sounding samples. Where this is certainly a departure from some of their previous work, the two seem to find equal navigation through their evolving compositions morphing into a singular melting chthonic mass, giving the listener an open-ended impression of mesmerizingly vast sonic topographies all gleaming with moments of both glimpses of gorgeousness and the grotesque. “Blazing Worlds” provides a wonderful, seamless spin from initial blast to the last. There are lots of strange instrumental textures and propellant pulsations, all pretty much within the confines of modernist electronic invention, and the whole shimmers with a very unusual kind of lambency, while still sounding deceptively discernible. While it can often seem tricky to keep up with Wright and Corum’s many releases and style shifts, it is constantly rewarding and this is another fine addition to their oeuvre.

David Gedge says: "The songs we recorded for the August single in our series are almost what you might call old ones! A demo version of `Each Time You Open Your Eyes' was first recorded in 2018, but it wasn't until over three years later that we finally played it live. By then, we'd made it huge! We wanted to cover all parts of the audio spectrum, so Melanie tuned her bass from E all the way down to C to make Terry de Castro's original bass line sound extra-bassy, and I used an octave pedal, on the recommendation of Jon, to add additional layers to my own part with both higher and lower versions. There's also a note in the vocal part that I hold for sixteen seconds; it's like everything had to bigger on this track! `That Would Only Happen In A Movie' - which we first played on a live stream in March 2021 - sounds almost restrained, in comparison, with its acoustic guitar and virtually a capella middle eight. But then, sometimes, less is more! A semi-acoustic version of that song also appears on our `Locked Down And Stripped Back Volume Two' album." Second album from the Regensburger boys, which seamlessly follows on from their pretty well-celebrated (out of print!) debut! In the wake of the Hamburg Rachut bands (the vocals sometimes sound amazingly like Jens Rachut including his cryptic lyrics) things continue lively in terms of sophisticated, slightly scrappy punk rock with a lot of heart. Sometimes it reminds of Oiro, Turbostaat and Boxhamsters/EA80. There are enough hits with a tricky verse and the best chorus heard in a long time. In general, the album impresses with a lot of variety, and despite the comparisons mentioned, the 12 tracks are independent enough to create their own sound. Great band and great German-speaking punk rock record, no shit!

As a massive early Killed By Death style punk fanatic, constantly in pursuit of the ever elusive records and one-off-obscuro sound, I frequently turn up my nose at modern bands playing the style. You can't just crap out a poorly recorded generic riff punk track, slap a 'kbd' label on it and expect me to fall for the ruse. I mean bands have done that and had varying degrees of wool pull—see The Uncalled 4's 'Grind Her Up' 7" for the best success of this—but it doesn't usually work out. What I particularly enjoy about Rotary Club is that they rework the lyrics into all things landline telephone while heavily referencing the riffage from the genre's top tier tunes, twisting them just enough to make them their own. A refreshing and well executed take to say the least.—Jensen. Rotary Club is from Reno, NV. 'See If I Care' is a KILLER 1966 organ-led garage punker that was included in the "Back From the Grave" series becoming a popular spin.First time fully licensed 7" reissue.By the mid-60s, Kenny Johnson and several of his Bakersfield (California) acolytes had relocated to Los Angeles and were playing gigs all over. 'See If I Care' is a KILLER 1966 organ-led snotty garage punker that was credited to the pseudonymous Ken & The Forth Dimension. At the time, this song was considered a relative throwawaycompared to its pop A-side, 'Rovin' Heart'. However, an error with the original pressing that reversed the 45 labels meant that anyone that might have played the record expecting the schlocky sentiments of the main track, got an earful of garage band insolence instead.Many years on and 'See If I Care' reached a cult status after being included in the "Back From the Grave" series becoming a popular spin in the garage scene.

Belgian musician, composer and instrument-maker, Jochem Baelus, has been unleashing his obscure, hypnotic krautrock embellished with distorted exotica upon us as Slumberland since 2013. After creating his signature battery of sewing machines, projectors and dismantled mechanical objects, Baelus immersed himself into the world of 64 year old voice-artist Sainkho Namtchylak and assembled a new sound sculpture inspired by her colour.
