The long-awaited second floor-oriented 7" from the masterpiece album "cumbia Siglo Xxi", chosen as the best of the year 2020 by numerous music media and record stores! Strange, poppy and groovy, these are the two coupled tracks that are the Meridian Brothers! The unique mastering, which differs from Lp/cd, was done by Frankie Merritt of The Carvery UK, a leading mastering and cutting company in tropical music and responsible for SOUNDWAY's series of works.

A new world of accordion music pioneered by the Meridian Brothers, who lead the tropical music scene with their unique approach to Colombian musical heritage and twisted pop sensibility, andCONJUNTO Media Luna, who revive the charm of authentic cumbia sabanera in the present! Despite the simplicity and minimalism of the live instrumentation, the collaboration "paz EN LA Tierra", released in 2021, has no hint of the conventional acoustic music mood, but is instead a collection of songs with the rhythmic intensity of house and techno. Two of the tracks have been further edited, mixed, and mastered to be released as exclusive 7" versions.

Creole dance music by Shinsuke Fujieda, a flute and saxophone player active in Mumbia y Susu Candelosos and i-dip, leads a group of virtuoso musicians. The sound that responds to the French Caribbean~Zouk revival that has been making waves in the European club scene finally emerges from Tokyo! Shinsuke Fujieda's call has brought together such renowned musicians as Shinichi Tsukamoto (TRIAl Production) and Masaki Nagata (Zainichi Funk) to form the Shinsuke Fujieda Group, which has garnered attention for its groovy, sometimes ceotic, deep and emotional sound that is based on jazz but is distinct from so-called "club jazz. After the release of their magnum opus "informel" in 2021, they have further strengthened their groove intensity and have chosen dance music from the French Caribbean as the theme for their new journey.

Mumbia Y SUS Candelosos' masterpiece, long awaited by the cumbia community not only in Japan but all over the world, is finally here! This is a very important work that heralds the beginning of a new chapter in tropical music from Tokyo! Mutsumi Kobayashi, the leader of the group, is widely known for his skill as a percussionist who can electrify a full house with a single bongo, regardless of country, through his work with the Minyo Crusaders and other groups. However, his talent and evolution are not limited to performing. He not only composed and produced the music, but also did the trackdown himself this time, with mastering by Frankie Merritt and artwork by Mateo Rivano.... It took 5 years and a lot of passion to complete this release.

The joyful and melancholy songs of the soul that have been sung on Tumaco, a small island in the Pacific Gulf of Colombia that has been exposed to violence, abandoned, and isolated, are now echoing across the world's dance floors. The world's first recording of Alba Maria Valencia and her group Cantoras DE Yerbabuena, the bearers of a little-known local tradition, who were born and raised on the small island of Tumaco, also known as "the pearl of the Pacific," and have been singing the songs they learned from their parents for over 65 years! The artwork for the sleeve is by Yukie Monnai. The semicircular arch in the background, which was a symbol of Tumaco, collapsed earlier this year and is no longer there. Alba Maria Valencia and the members of Cantoras de Yerba Buena are very happy to have this arch painted on the sleeve.

Another door opens to new possibilities for Cumbia! From the cyberspace connecting the Bay Area, London, Monterrey, and Tokyo comes Lovers Cumbia, a mellow, sweet, and heartbreaking music. The latest release from Grupo Jejeje, the unique cyber-cumbia sonidera project of Turbo Sonidero, a Chicano born in San Jose, California, and Arrabalero, a Persian immigrant living in London, is a lovers' cumbia featuring the sweet and sensual voice of Simone Michelle, a singer who is gaining attention in the Bay Area! The cover is a reversible sleeve by the genius Ryohei Kazumi of Entertainment. When placed side by side with Grupo Jejeje's previous work, "Kumbia De La Rober / Quetzalli" (okra310), a single composition appears. Two postcards with portraits and lyrics by Simone Michelle are enclosed.

El Clan Antillano was an obscure, short-lived salsa group started in 1975 by singer Jacky "El Caballo" Carazo, originally from Cartagena, and radio host / song composer Mike Char, from Barranquilla. The band was active only until 1977, with a mere two albums to its name. Carazo and Char, "los amigos costeños" (friends from the Caribbean coastal area) created El Clan Antillano, backed by astudio orchestra comprised mostly of Fruko Y Sus Tesos band members, as a fresh start after the previous group Carazo had been had become inactive. The record has been remastered from the original tapes, with an additional three bonus cuts taken from two rare 45 singles, including the sought after track 'Alma'. First time reissue. 180g Vinyl. While the ephemeral El Clan Antillano may not be as well known as the groups it's related to, namely El Afrocombo and Fruko Y Sus Tesos, it certainly deserves credit as a worthy participant in the historical evolution of salsa colombiana.

This is the quartet's second LP, recorded in 1971, and contains mostly Peruvian songs with a strong Cuban flavor where Pancho Acosta's electric guitar reaches vertiginous heights and is combined with outstanding conga and timbales playing. Extremely rare and hard to find in its original issue, this is the first-time reissue. Remastered from the original tapes.The guitarist Francisco "Pancho" Acosta Angeles (1946) played a significant role in spreading love for Cuban rhythms across Peru, those sunshine beats breaking through the cloudiness that hangs over Lima most of the year, as the city bears a closer resemblance weather wise to London than to Havana. In 1967, after making a name for himself with his six-stringed skill, he made his vinyl debut with Compay Quinto. Shortly after Pancho left Company Quinto, he joined Los Kintos. When Los Kintos disbanded, Pancho Acosta swiftly moved on to his next project for MAG: the Cuarteto Yemayá, formed by tumba drummer and singer Miguel Montoya, bassist Máximo Pecho and timba drummer José Luis Fiallega, all under Pancho's direction and arrangements. The quartet's debut album, "Ecos del Trio Matamoros", was a tribute to the Cuban trio of the title and comprised cover versions as well as a couple of their own songs. This is the quartet's second LP, recorded between July and August 1971. "El Tic Tac" contains mostly Peruvian songs. The foreign versions on the album include the classic 'Compay Gallo', written by Miguel Matamoros; 'Toribio carambola' and 'El Tic Tac', from the repertoire of the Cuban Trio Servando Diaz; and 'Sandunguéate', best known in Celia Cruz's version. 'Oye Mi Son' and 'Oye Mi Guitarra' were composed by the album's lead vocalist, Miguel Montoya. Percussionist Jorge Mariazza (Los Pachas, Manzanita y su Conjunto) co-wrote 'Descarga Yemayá' with Pancho, which features outstanding conga and timbales playing. Tito Puente's classic 'Guayaba' has been recorded by so many artists over the years and these two covers by Sonora de Lucho Macedo and La Logia Sarabanda are undoubtedly among the best ones. Here you are two proper dance floor shakers for the tropical heads out there, recorded under the influence of the early 70s Latino rock sounds, reissued on a 45 for the first time. Our series of tropical 45s aimed to shake up the dance floors presents two incredible versions of one of the best songs ever composed by maestro Tito Puente: Guayaba. In the late 1950s, rock'n'roll shook the foundations of music in Peru, and orchestras rushed to cover hit songs and explore the possibilities of mixing them with tropical music. Lucho Macedo followed this trend, even many years later. In 1972 his version of 'Guayaba' was published, combining elements of the emerging Chicano rock sound, popularized internationally by bands like Santana or Malo, blended with a Latin flavor loaded with elements of mambo, son montuno, boogaloo... Timbales and distorted guitars shaking hands in this very dance floor friendly version. La Logia Sarabanda would arrive all the way from Rio de la Plata but -despite their origin- they'd release their records exclusively in Peru and Mexico. Their only single opened with another very interesting version of 'Guayaba' that highlights the sounds of fierce and psychedelic guitars while keeping the Latin essence of the original song.

Repress. At the album "Mimis Plessas plays Philicorda" from 1965, the composer Mimis Plessas experimented with Philicorda, a Philips electric instrument attempting a launch in mid-60’s alongside the Hammond organ. The potential of this instrument was pioneering and quite ‘revolutionary’ for that time, which Mimis Plessas saw from the very start. He essentially transcribed seven of his own compositions -plus one by Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Kostas Klavvas, Kostas Giannidis and Kostas Kapnisis- adapting them all after Philicorda’s needs and span of capabilities. The result album was a fresh air of originality: a jazz album blended with music elements of surf, bolero, shake, cha cha, hully gully, bossa nova etc, creating a unique sound, resulting in it being considered the sonic precursor to "Greece goes modern" and remaining rare to this day having not been released on vinyl since then.

The musicians who collaborated at this recording are : Yannis Kanellidis and Yannis Ioannou mandolin, Vassilis Panagiotopoulos trumpet, Yiannis Schizas trombone, Andrea Ortega saxophone, Rigas Saritziotis baritone and tenor saxophone, Nikos Ginos alto saxophone, Titos Kalliris guitar, Vassilis Teknetzoglou drums and Mimi Plessas philicorda.

The recording procedures were hosted at the Finos Film studio, made by the recording engineer Mikes Damalas and the sleeve's photo was taken from Anna Maria Antippa. The reissue has been made on 700 heavy audiophile copies of 200gr vinyl in black color and is accompanied by a two-page insert that includes a text by the authoritative music critic Fontas Troussas and credits, with an English translation by Antonis Xagas and Fotini Zarogikas.

The sound remastered was edited by Yiannis Kyris and the sleeve adaptions were made by Thanassis Xanthakos (Plan 59).

An undeservedly obscure Fruko album from 1973, full to the brim with unrelentingly hard and heavy salsa bangers that never let up (hence the title, "The Violent One"). The record is a pleasing mix of originals and covers and contains the anthems 'Tronco seco', sung by Wilson Saoko, and 'Nadando', a hit for Joe Arroyo. But there's a whole lot more, including hot holiday tunes and the stomping descarga 'Salsa Na' Ma'. This album is "all killer and no filler", designed to set the dance floor ablaze! Details:The 1973 album "El Violento" was the fifth full-length salsa LP led by Julio Ernesto Estrada Rincón, aka Fruko, and the second credited to Fruko Y Sus Tesos. Though it did not contain hits like 'A la memoria del muerto' or 'El Preso', it's a collector's item today in places like the US, Europe and Japan, perhaps precisely because it is obscure yet full to the brim with unrelentingly hard and heavy salsa bangers that never let up from start to finish (hence the title, which translates as "The Violent One"). A mix of originals and interesting covers, the LP is "all killer and no filler", purposely designed to set the dance floor ablaze. It features Fruko's two main vocalists that took over from the first pair of Humberto "Huango" Muriel and "Píper Pimienta" Díaz, namely the beloved duo of Alvaro "Joe" Arroyo and Wilson "Saoko" Manyoma. Los Tesos were a talented "wild bunch" who listened to their fearless leader, with Fruko holding down the bottom end on electric bass, Hernán Gutiérrez in the piano chair, the Villegas brothers on hand percussion (Jesús tickling the bongos and Fernando slapping the congas), augmented by Rafael Benítez on timbales and an ace horn section of Freddy Ferrer and Gonzálo Gómez (trombones) and Jorge Gaviria and Salvador Pasos (trumpets). While "El Violento" may not be as well known as some Fruko records, it certainly deserves a new look and should be assessed on its own merits as a very powerful, confident entry in the historical evolution of Colombi...

OLAYA SOUND SYSTEM, Peruvian band founded 15 years ago and with a discography of 6 CDs, present their first vinyl release, comprising some of their most outstanding productions recorded between 2015 and 2022. Their songs explore the sounds of Andean cumbia and chicha, with elements of psychedelia, reggae and Afro-Latin rhythms of global relevance, projecting with its music an innovative new chapter in the development of Peruvian tropical music of the 21st century. Just like Chico Trujillo, Frente Cumbiero or Son Rompe Pera are also doing, OLAYA SOUND SYSTEM are reaching a global impact modernizing tropical music. Olaya Sound System was founded in Chorrillos, Lima (Peru), in 2009 and since then they have developed a very particular exploration of the sounds of Andean cumbia and chicha, with elements of psychedelia, reggae and Afro-Latin rhythms of global relevance, projecting with its music an innovative new chapter in the development of Peruvian tropical music of the 21st century. Both on the dance floor and in meditative listening, Olaya Sound System take us with this LP on a journey through bucolic landscapes of the Andes, the Amazon and the infinite Pacific Ocean, essential locations that constitute their native Peru and that have inspired very perceptibly their sound. Cultivators of a very particular tropical musical style, they collect and adapt the Peruvian traditions of the cumbia, chicha and huayno genres, and then blend them with a melting pot of contemporary Latin and global influences such as reggae, salsa, rock, among others. This album is released on the recently revamped Peruvian label Rey Record, one of the essential and most iconic record labels during the golden days of cumbia and chicha, decades ago.

Campo's debut album, released in 2012, was a milestone in the new South American music scene. The brainchild of Juan Campodónico - one of the creators of Bajofondo - combines sophisticated pop, electronica, and South American roots, uniting past and present in a unique way. Neo-cumbia, tango, and candombe shake hands with Britpop, soul, and trip-hop in a timeless album. A place where indie rock intersected with the great Latin bands of the 1950s, fringe genres like cumbia villera were transformed into sophisticated music, tango joined alternative pop, and track music became contemplative and landscaped. Juan Campodónico has a long artistic career (Peyote Asesino, Bajofondo) and extensive experience as an artistic producer on some fundamental records of Uruguayan and South American music (Jorge Drexler, Cuarteto de Nos, No te Va Gustar among others). In 'Campo' is a very heterogeneous group of composers, performers and instrumentalists from different genres and geographical locations (Jorge Drexler, Martín Rivero, Ellen Arkbro, Pablo Bonilla and Verónica Loza, among others). 'Campo' was based on the song format, jumping the limits of the Río de la Plata, immersing himself in rhythms, genres and forms of South American songs from the past and present, seeking the link with pop, rock and electronic music. The album -which received nominations for the American Grammys, the European MTV Awards and the Latin Grammys- broke schemes and prejudices. He brought together opposite worlds such as cumbia and britpop, songwriters and dance music, or bolero and electropop, finding beauty and sophistication in unexpected places.

La Sonora Mazuren is the latest addition to the already rich indie-tropical scene out of Bogotá, Colombia. Deeply rooted in the popular sounds and rhythms of South America, the group draws from cumbia, chicha, guaracha, champeta and other styles mostly from Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.

Far from being revivalists or folklorists, the group combines synthesizers and electric guitars with accordion and percussion to create a style indebted to early pioneers such as Polibio Mayorga or Bogota’s own Eblis Alvarez, of Meridian Brothers fame, who also produced their new album. The result is a psychedelic feast reminiscent of the golden years of tropicalia.

Grupo Rebolu has been a mainstay in the extensive Colombian community of New York City for well over a decade, bringing the quintessential sounds of their home country to countless live shows and events throughout the five boroughs. Musically steeped in the folkloric traditions of the Afro-Caribbean discourse, the band has consistently combined first class musicianship with the echoes of their upbringing. Throughout their four self-produced albums, they have incorporated some of Colombia's most cherished traditions —gaita,cumbia, andbullerenguebeing just a few of the disciplines that Rebolu has infused with the modern songwriting and compositions of band leader Ronald Polo. As a natural step in the band's continued musical evolution, Rebolu has connected with Names You Can Trust for a one-off recording to deliver two original songs and productions that seamlessly fit the preferred format and the label's catalog, while further incorporating the group's sound into the wider NY musical spectrum. Whether it's champeta gone disco, or bullerengue gone reggae, this handy double-sided single packs a fresh take on the roots and traditions of Rebolu's musical lineage.
